I love HTC, even through some issues I had with my DHD.
I'm now rocking the One X, not had ANY issue with it.
Samsung just doesn't excite.
But HTC doesn't have the big $$$ that Sammy spend on Advertising.
The One IS a better phone overall, but a better phone does not mean it will outsell the PR machine of Sammy.
So Android Police have placed up a poll, HTC One or SGS3s (I know, I'm being mean).

I have been spending so much hours lately thinking about this question. There are so many things I like about the One, and so many things I like about the S4 (and no, I don't have any preference to any company in general).
I wish to make this decision as soon as possible, because I feel so obsessed about this.

What I like about the Sammy is the dual camera videos and the play share feature. That's it.
Play share will only work with other SGS4s iirc so that's of limited real world use and they're may be an app available soon that will allow the dual camera pics and video, so problem solved.
What I like about the One is EVERYTHING.

It's not even about money. This is from Google Trends which gauges fluctuations in search hits based on key words over time. Neither HTC nor Samsung advertised their device launches as they were media (vs. consumer) events so interest was based on word of mouth and what people found online. The one bright spot is that the ochre colored line in the first chart is the Xperia Z/L and HTC's no worse than Sony who has better name recognition and a larger marketing budget. You can throw a party but that doesn't mean people will come.

Haha. I watched this doco too just the other week and I totally missed it. Was probably too busy playing with my tablet to notice its brother on screen.
You'd think they would be able to notice the big Samsung logo on the back of the tablet. Or all the white backs of the Samsung tablets in the background.

But to the uneducated (which is probably 90% of the population) any tablet type device is automatically thought of as an iPad. I get it at work all the time. "Nice iPad." Me: "It's not an iPad, it's a... oh never mind."
That is the power of branding to the general public. Have to give Apple credit for that. Any MP3 player is automatically considered an iPod. Most smart phones are called iPhones, regardless of what they are. Bugs the crap out of me, but it usually isn't worth my breath to correct them.
Kind of like Xerox, Kleenex, and Q-Tip.

Ha - Found this post in a search after watching the same show and seeing the same thing.. That must have been at a best buy, all the tablets in the background are the white editions that I bought my girlfriend that came out at bestbuy on launch..

I am disappointed that there hasn't been a topic like this yet. I can understand why some people wouldn't like them but I myself enjoy reading through them and getting the opinions of the people.
So, I myself believe that the One is the better buy based on the amazing build quality, and the little pieces like Boom speakers. It screams quality!
What do you guys think?

unless people start verbally abusing each other it can be a really good topic.
As a user who can use the phone for a day without need to charge, I'm happy with non-replaceable battery. And considering the price we are paying, I'd like my phone to look premium. And last but not least, as a personal choice I like Sense UI more than others.
So I'll be getting HTC One.
S4 biggest difference from S3, IN MY OPINION, is fullhd 1080p screen. Rest is pretty much the same for me.

For marketing to be successful there needs to be a high number of placements, impressions and repetition. That takes money. So for BB and HTC to have Alicia Keys and Robert Downey Jr. as tie-ins is great. But not having the money to keep that in the public eye kind of limits its effectiveness. For Samsung, the Jay Z endorsement is about .001% of their overall promotional budget and is a throw-away. HTC's total marketing budget is about $300MM which sounds big but is pretty small against $8B in sales when you're trying to market to a global audience.
I know I should have thought of Iron Man first, but I instead imagined Sherlock Holmes using an HTC One.
I can imagine him doing great stuff with Sense 5 and telling Watson "It is simplicity itself!"
