"saving music to device" taking forever? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Last night I saved about 3 albums from Google Music to save onto my phone. They are STILL downloading. My homes wifi is not that slow, any way I can find out why?

Downloading from the app is slow in general, it's not user side (took me about 9 hours to download 300 songs on my 18 Mbps connection). I'd recommend downloading using the PC client, then transferring the songs to your phone. Much faster that way, and you have direct access to your songs which means you can also play them from third-party apps.

Ok I was worried that maybe the phones data was turning off when it went to sleep over night

DoubleTwist extremely slow to sync podcasts!?! Maybe starts from Scratch?

So, here's the skinny...
I use DoubleTwist to sync a number of podcasts to my Vibrant. I have had the same issue with this phone, 2 MT3G's, and MT4G and a Galaxy Tab. The problem is that its SUPER slow every time. I mean, I have had it syncing for close to two hours now, still not finished. This is NOT a one time thing...
Here is what I am seeing. It SEEMS as though every time it syncs, it removes the videos already on the device and starts over. I know this because I had 25-30 unwatched videos on my device, started a sync, then stopped it after about 10 minutes. Suddenly I only had 6 videos on my device. It's as if the software removed the files already copied to the phone, then started over copying them back over again.
Is there a way around this? If not, is there another good (free) application to download and sync multiple video podcasts?
Thanks
Anyone?

I'm waiting as well.

Has the Play Store been SLOW downloading apps lately?

Ever since yesterday, play store for me is downloading apps at a ridiculously slow speed. I mean, like 5kb/s speed. It took me, just now, at least 2 minutes to download the facebook app. And I'm tethering from my phone! Last night, I couldn't even download a .99mb app from the play store (on wifi). It took forever, and a lot of times, i had to stop the download and redownload because it looked like it was frozen.
Haven't seen any speed differences. I downloaded a 500mb game this morning.

Definitely slower here as well. I can't get speeds of much more than 200 kbps/sec downloading from the Play Store on WiFi which is painfully slow when you're trying to download a 2 GB game from there. I'm not noticing speed issues anywhere else. I ran a traceroute to play.google.com and had a host time out somewhere in the middle, which is probably where the latency is. Some upstream connection between my ISP and Google probably has an outage somewhere.

Media Server Problem?

So I am running stock jellybean and I am rooted. I notice that my media server is the 2nd highest thing draining my battery and I tried almost everything to fix the problem. I have almost everything down. (brightness, Bluetooth, GPS, and everything i can turn off beside wifi) I usually use my tablet to go online on chrome or use facebook for a while but my battery drains 1 percent within 3 min. sometimes 2. I don't even have any music programs playing etc. Is there a way to fix this. Thank you

Media server or scanner. If it's the scanner you can try Rescan media root from the play store.

Google Play Music using a lot of data

I don't know if its the phone or the app, but Google Play Music is using a lot of data. I have about 3300 songs uploaded, and a few hundred pinned to my device. I have "only download on wifi" checked and I don't have "stream high quality" checked, but its sitll using a lot. This morning, after streaming two songs, it had already used over 50mb. Yester it used almost 400mb to stream maybe 10 songs. Is this normal? I put it on shuffle and skip songs a lot, does it still use data when you skip songs? Anyone else having issues with this?
i only started using google play music a couple of weeks ago but also noticed it uses quite large amounts of data. I think it depends on the quality of the music being streamed back to you. With my collection most of it is in 320kbps so i expect quite large amounts of data to be used while streaming it to the device.
hope this helps.
I just don't see how when the songs are 5-6 mb each, it uses about 5 times that much data when I stream it
I have noticed that to. On a 40 minute journey it uses about 400-500mb of data and my limit is 1gb.

Same thing, using the app for a day brought me 500MB, and I listened to maybe 50MB worth of stuff. Checking the app in data management that most of it is background downloading. Don't know what's causing this but it was happening before the recent update to the new google music. Not fun.
If it makes you feel any better, I've been streaming music on google music and to my amazement apparently used 77 GIGS on the music app according to my phone's data usage monitoring. This all happened in a matter of 24 hours. However, when checking my usage online with the carrier's website, all I see is <.5 GB for yesterday's usage. I'm at work so I can't post a screenshot, but it does leave room for thought on how our phone's data usage monitors data as opposed to our carriers.

Yep. The Google music app eats up data like crazy. a 40 minute cruise would take up around 600mb of my data. Lucky I have unlimited data though.
Anyways, people have said that spotify and other streaming apps have a much lower data usage. You could try those instead.
1) check settings/google-account/name.gmail.com and check sync music is unchecked
2) if you are using a rom like carbon for example, the new dalvik cache system misreports data usage, check with your carrier for real stats.

Google Music Re-Downloading Pinned Music

Okay so I recently noticed that it seems to need to redownload pinned music whenever i connect to a wifi, or whenever i reboot. This is annoying as I am about to travel and want to have the music on the phone so i dont need to worry about signal and data to play the music. I have more then enough space, it is currently saving to my MicroSD card. I did try switching it to the internal memory with less music pinned and still the same problem. Is this just me or does this happen to more people?

Yes I always get this, so annoying. I too am storing stuff in the SD card. Albums that I know to have previously downloaded will suddenly have about 75% of their pie chart orange in the 'manage downloads' interface. Complete waist of bandwidth.

Anyway to fix this or stop it. This is extremely annoying. I like the idea of using google music but its annoying having it redownload the music all the time.
