Black rubber end of my sim tray fell off! - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I ejected my SIM tray and was pulling it off, and the black plastic/rubber piece on the end of the SIM tray pulled off. Now you pretty much require a pair of tweezers to pull the SIM tray out of the phone.
Anybody experience this? Only thing I can think of is calling LG and asking them to give me a new SIM tray?

Can you glue it back on?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium

could you post a pic of it ?

Super glue is your friend, OP.

I'll post a pic tomorrow. Super glue might work but I can't even get it to sit back evenly on the little metal tray.

AW: Black rubber end of my sim tray fell off!
Better call LG or the Google support before you glue the simtray inside the phone
(Happened to me once with an old Nokia)

Hahaha! That's why you let it dry overnight. That's really funny. I bet you didn't think so at the time, though!

Here's the pic. Called Google store and they said it's a cosmetic defect and they won't fix. Told me I can call LG to see if they will give me a new SIM tray. Otherwise I'm outta luck. Not impressed.

The slightest bit of crazy glue will fix that right up.

Problem is, I can't get it to sit properly on the metal tray. There are little ridges that the tray apparently inserts into, but they seem misaligned.

How is the back of your phone?

I am really enjoying my Aria. However, the back doesn't fit just right. It can flex back & forth. It just doesn't feel solid. I've owned HTC phones before & the build quality is usually tight. So, is this an issue w/my phone or is yours a bit 'squishy' too?
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
Mine is slightly loose at the top and squeaks when moving it. Probably happened from sticking my nail in there so many times to remove the cover.
Mine too. This is a design flaw. Damn.
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
it is a design flaw... I got 2 Arias and both are the same, once you remove the cover more than 1 time.. it will become that way... what I did was to put a little piece of paper on that corner and there is no play what so ever...

ya i've used that trick on every phone i've owned, works like a charm
Aha -- interesting! I never thought of a little paper shim. Thanks for the advice.
I was just wondering about this the other day. I guess I will try the paper trick.
I also have a squeaky back cover, as well as my volume up button being a little hard to press.. Where exactly would I put a little piece of paper?!
Thanks!

I wrapped the yellow edge inside the phone with scotch tape creating a very tight seal that is invisible

Interesting. Did you cover the bumps that hold the back cover on as well?

AHA, the little piece of paper on the corner did the trick, thanks for the tip!
I'm lucky I suppose. I've taken my back cover off dozens of times and there's no play at all.

Plastic casing stained

I left my phone in the back pocket of my blue jeans, and when I took it out I discovered that my jean dye had stained the phone!
The metal was easy to clean off, but the white plastic casing looks to be permanently stained blue.

This is what happens when you dye plastic.
When I buy jeans with a dark wash, I wash them with my other jeans like 3-4 times before I even wear them. I've "dyed" plenty of other clothes this way.

I have heard that stains can be removed with a Magic Eraser - it is an american thing, try using a pencil rubber or similar
** Checked Amazon UK and similar and they are readily available in UK too
I did the same thing, I used a laptop cleaning wipe thing. Its cleans of in seconds, don't worry
My white bands have turned yellowish. Any tips for that?

Try cleaning with some isopropyl alcohol.
Try rubbing it really hard with a wet q-tip. I tried using a silver sharpie marker (permanent) on the bottom of the phone on the white to see what it would look like all silver, but the marker was blotchy and I didn't like it. So I just kept rubbing it really hard with a wet q-tip and after a few minutes it was all over. Used about 7 q-tips.
this is why I chose to get the black version. I figured the white plastic would look awful in a few months.
Tough call. I was going for white as if I chip it, black would look worse.

Just don't have a leaky pen in your pocket, the ink does not come off the plastic. Not quickly anyway.

May not be the case, I have black One, it seems the coating holds up quite well. And remember, even if it gets scratched, you can always use a black marker to cover the exposed silver, but on silver One I don't know if you can do this.

Plastic film on top of back camera?

Got a weird question.
I was looking at my back camera... noticed a plastic film. Is that to remain or be peeled off?

You peel it off. It's just like the plastic film as a bumper on the chrome around the phone; it is all to be removed.

you can leave it if you'd like for a while because it does have a small hole for the lens to look through, but it bugged the hell outta me, so i promptly took it off
Remove it. It's nothing but a dirt catcher.

that little POS took forever to get off. I couldn't fit my fingernail under the plastic to save my life.
If people do have trouble peeling of that plastic, try putting tape on top of it and pulling it off. Worked in one shot for me.
I had an issue trying to remove it as well, until I popped off the back cover of the phone. Then it was super easy to get at.

This piece of plastic was annoying the hell out of me. It came scratched and looking terrible and it was a REAL pain trying to remove it using my fingernails. The tape method worked like a charm, thanks!!!

Earpiece scratches

Hey, i've noticed that the earpiece on my s4 scratches way easier than on my s3. It's due to the fact that it is slightly more raised off the front glass than on the s3. Is anyone else noticing small scratches on the earpiece?

Same here,
The chrome like ring around the earpiece easily scratches off

Don't try. It should scratch easily with reuglar use..lol im also seeing it scratched in alot of review videos if you look closely...in my opinion the earpiece on both the s3 and s2 were less sratchable...

I already tried, even with scissors :silly:
NO scratches whatsoever, maybe I was luck and got good set of earpiece :good:

Yep I got a scratch already on the metal cover for the ear piece. I also notice that the second and third little hole (from left to right) seems to be clogged or a metal part just underneath - oh an the last one too. I even attempted to unclogged one of those holes with a very sharp pin and that's when I notice they are not clogged. Those holes look just look clogged but it's just components under the grill.
I got massive scratches on the first 3-4 days of use on the camera metal ring. It should be made from the same material on the sides.
Same here also got scratches on the camera grill!

Dropped my GD phone. Four days old.

I was walking down the street. Get a notification. Go to pull it out of my pocket. Snags my coat and slides right to the sidewalk. Only dropped two feet at most cuz I kinda fumbled it with my other hand. Quite irritating as there is no way to fix it but to find a new chassis or buy a new device. I'm usually so careful. Never dropped a phone before. Seriously ever. I'm super ocd about the condition of my devices. I dunno if I can handle looking at the little dings for as long as it takes to afford a new device/parts. Might post pictures later if anyone cares to see the results of a standard pocket to concrete drop. Luckily no cracks or scratches in the glass. Tiny dings and tiny tiny scratches on the back.

Any scratch on Front + Back screen? (With Protector/ case)? Picture would be great and thanks for sharing.
I did not have a case on it at the time. There was a small ding on the front glass but removing the OEM film cleared that up. The rear has a few tiny dings and itty nitty scratches. The aluminum frame has a couple dings. Nothing that most people would crap about but most of us here at xda are kinda nutty about clean devices. I'll post photos as soon as my wife comes home.

Sorry to hear that. But lucky the screen doesn't crack/ shutter. Thanks and looking forward to see the details.

i could see it happening easily enough myself. this is the first phone iv had with a shiny back on it. my last phone was a cheap samsung so the plastic makes it easier to grip. it would be even worse with cold hands id say. ill probably try and get some skin for the back of it when they are out, something with a bit of texture on it would be better. and it would cover the logo too!
what does the screen feel like with out the screen protector on it? its just regular glass? and did the logo come off?
The logo did come off. Its kinda cool. The glass underneath feels harder and less slick I guess. It's hard to explain but the glass underneath doesn't grab fingerprints and oil and dust as much as the film did. Also when there are finger prints and smudges you can't see them as much when the display is on. I took the film off my xperia ion as well.

I've dropped my Xperia Ray couple of hundred times,I think this one will suffer the same destiny Thats why I'm kind of relieved bout the fact that rear of z1c is just plastic, bought a case ofcourse immediately after purchase of this gem of phone. Couldn't be happier.
