Question is if i click to do update will i losse all my stuff and have to root again

Do you mean the ota update? Yes you will lost root but other things will not be wipe. You can use voodoo ota root keeper to backup your root then restore it after update.

How to keep root after an OTA update

If you would like to OTA your phone to 2.3.3 etc, then download an app called "OTA RootKeeper" from the Android Market.
This app backups your root files, and then after the OTA you can recover the files and your phone will be rooted. Worked fine on my Xperia Play r800x and my bro's Droid X. Let me know if it worked or not.
PS!! Not sure if the app is available for download in Europe, but it definitely is North America.
Edit: On some OTA's it keeps root but on some it doesn't, this app just a guarantee that it will keep root, and plus I'm just trying to help
But we really have kept root by doing OTA and not PC Companion update since the time of Gingerbreak without even using a 3rd-party app.. Why?

good find but still it's not that good if it can't keep root if you update via PC Companion. or does it?

I'm not really sure because I have The r800x and PC Companion don't work with for That model but as long as it doesn't wipe your data it should work

I dont understand because when i ota i automaticly have root.
that's exactly my point..
Everybody with a play retain root when updating OTA. That's why so many is awaiting the OTA whenever there's an update
Regards Dousan...
Yea you won't really need to back up with third party app if your are ota updating. It keeps everything the way it is...

On some updates it does and some it doesn't, because my bro use to have a Xperia Play, he had 2.3.2 root, then he update to 2.3.3 and the root was gone, but this app is a guarantee that you will keep root, you kno y take the risk of losing it
Wierd becuase when i had root 2.3.2 and ota updated to 2.3.3 i had root still
And plus I've read some topics that are about OTA and root, just browse the Q&A and look for some related to both

Will do, thanks for the info
Im kinda confused. . I unlocked my bootloader and used an update.zip to install super user. apk. Im rooted 2.3.2 , Can I use verizons ota upate to 2.3.3 because I thought that would mess up my phone. Is it safe to ota?

No it's not safe to update with an unlocked bootloader, it'll brick your phone.
Either lock the bootloader (don't know how on a R800x) and then update OTA or find a ftf file of that new update from verizon and flash it with flashtool and then root as you did on 2.3.2. Make a backup of you apps/data prior to flashing.

This is what i did, if you have any uninstalled system apps then you have to flash the verizon ftf, but dont wipe the data, then you lock the bootloader, download the OTA rootkeeper app, back up your root, then just OTA to 2.3.3, and finallly just restore root via the ota rootkeeper app.
so far i am satisfied with the verizon 2.3.3 update, it took out some really annoying things about 2.3.2, so definitely OTA
hmm, maybe I will try this later, I wasnt sure if it even would make a big difference.

New Nexus 7 root & system update

Hello,
I just bought a Nexus 7 for my girlfriend, and followed directions to unlock bootloader/root it and it was very easy to do (thanks Devs!).
My question is, it keeps prompting to do a system update. If I run the system update, will it retain root? If not can I re-root after the update?
I shot myself in the foot with my Sony Tablet S after applying the ICS update and lost root and there is no work around at the moment. I dont want the same thing to happen to the Nexus 7 so asking if anyone as ran into this yet.
Thanks in advance

Ask in the toolkit thread, and don't ask questions in the General section next time.

I just got it OTA. When you get OTA updates, you lose root. To restore root, use VooDoo OTA RootKeeper from the play store. It worked for me

Does it take an arm and limb for OP to use a search engine or the search function in this forum?
Beamed from my Grouper.
I've just got OTA too, last night .. to 4.1.2 .. (and yes, my tablet is rooted, and bootloader opened, but with Stock Rom)
.. but after installing the OTA, nothing happened, still 4.1.1 .. and still have root, didn't lose it .. basicly the tablet tried to update, but it wasn't successfully .. any idea? .. do i have to unroot before OTA update? .. and, when i try to search for update in "Settings - About Tablet" it saying "Up to Date.. ." .. strange :/
p.s. sorry for my weak English
Did you modify the build.prop or install a custom recovery?
On the Asus TF201, once you unlock the bootloader, installing an OTA update would brick the tablet.
I'm wondering: why it is okay to receive OTA updates on a rooted Nexus 7 with an unlocked bootloader when doing this on the Asus TF201 would brick it?
Right now, my Nexus 7 is running the latest OTA 4.2. It's rooted and unlocked. I want to make sure that when I try to install the next OTA update, I won't brick my Nexus 7.
How did you update your nexus 7, mine failed for both 4.1.2 and 4.2, I'm stocked in 4.1.1. I got the updates OTA on the n7 but when it restarted and try to update it failed.

When I received my update, I was rooted with a locked bootloader. I received a notification that an update was ready to install, and I installed the OTA update. I forgot to use the rootkeeper app, so I lost root. I used Wug's tool to unlock the bootloader and re-root. Wug's toolkit didn't have an option to re-lock the bootloader like a previous toolkit that I had used, so I'm left wondering about the significance of leaving the bootloader unlocked with respect to being able to receive OTA updates. I don't have a desire to flash a custom recovery or custom ROMs on my Nexus 7. I do that on my Galaxy Nexus and Asus TF201, but I just like receiving the stock OTA updates quickly and easily on my Nexus 7.

[Q] Best way to root..?

Hi guys!
I have just bought a Nexus7 32gb WiFi.
Which is the best way to root my device?
I don't want to try custom roms yet.
Just to have the stock firmware but rooted.
Should i prefer to use a toolkit with all the steps of unlock bootloader / root etc,
or maybe something else (ex.CF-Auto-Root etc)..?
Thanks in advance!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1809195
Used that the first day I had it. Couldn't ask for easier rooting. Start with 1 and work your way down to what you need.

Thanks for the reply.
And now the noob question..
If i'll unlock & root the device, it might cause problems to accept ota updates..?
After ota update, i suppose that needs root again..?
It won't cause problems with OTA updates - OTA updates simply will not work, period.
If you want the release of an OTA update after you root, you will have to go back to stock again to get the update.

So, after rooting, what's the way to get the updated firmwares?
Use OTA RootKeeper (http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.projectvoodoo.otarootkeeper&hl=en)
... it will backup your root (SU binary) and with it you can temporarily unroot - get the OTA update, and restore root again.
Rgrds,
Ged.
I don't want to offend MSkip at all, but I tried both toolkits and MSkip's is just not as friendly as Wug's.
Wug's toolkit is the simplest and easiest way of rooting I have ever experienced. Its that good, my nan could root the bloody thing, and she can't even use a touch device.
Like I said, no offence MSkip but Wug, your my winner.

Agreed, Wug's toolkit is supreme.
I've only used Wug's so I can't comment on any others, but I can agree that yes, Wug's toolkit is supreme.

[Q] Root access lost after OTA update - LG G2

OK, I allowed an OTA update to kitkat without thinking. Titanium backup and Superuser now report they don't have root access. I re-ran the root process and received a success notification.
I'm new to the rooting game and am sure the fix (if there is one) is simple. I did a search on the web and through various forums and have not found anything specific for my device (which is no surprise since the update i so recent).
I would appreciate any input...or disregard if your feel it was not worthy of a response
Thanks either way!
You'll have to downgrade to 4.2.2 using the back to stock guide found in the general section. Not hard and had to do it myself.
