I got my phone about 4 days ago so I just received this update.
After updating, everything works except for the fact that I no longer have data. The "H" is not showing up and I can't connect to any apps that require the internet... how do I fix this?

However, when I turn on Edge / 2g, then internet works...
Return the phone to T-mobile. Call them up and let them know you're having troubles with the update.
Edit - Have you gone over the 5 gig limit and you're capped?

I thought the data plan was unlimited data...
Like I said, Edge works fine when I turn it on, but I'm paying for 3g... it'd be stupid to just let it be. I guess I'll stop by the Tmobile store if it doesnt fix itself
It is unlimited data but they can decide how fast that data is. Did you actually go over the limit?

FWIW. When you go ever the limit 3g or H is still displayed, but the actual speed is like edge.

I have simple mobile now, its awesome for the price and prepay, plus they boast about bring your own phone, so its good. But i only get 115k download speed when testing with the speedtest.net app. I get 200 - 300k upload. It is not displaying 1x mode, it says, 3G and H when i have it on mobile, not 1x or E.
SO, the question is is this something I'm doing, or not doing, that I get such bad speeds?
Its pretty good for the price, $40/mo. unlimited 3G, $60/mo. for unlimited 4G, but its not available in my area for 4G yet...
Is this a normal speed for this carrier? I used to have att gophone prepay but that sucked. Also... simple mobile is tmobile and to set it up you just have to select the apn from the settings once the sim's unlocked. Its the absolute simplest set up there is. But I just wish i could do better speeds... I'm wondering if this is normal for my phone or what. thanks
I also use Simple Mobile. Their $40 unlimited 3G plan is capped around 120kbps on the download. You'll actually get faster speeds on EDGE. The only way to get actual 3G+ speeds with Simple Mobile is to get the $60 4G plan. I think calling the $40 plan 3G is a scam, but it's still not that bad of a price at $60/month.

switched to 2g only, edge, and I'll be darned, its faster. 156kbps, 215 upload. But its kinda sticky, what i mean is it will go 156 then drop off, then pick back up again. But I suppose that this might work. I just want it for jango music app, to stream music while i drive. NICE!
Just would like to add that if your phone displayed H at some point, that means 4G speed is available in your area. Upgrade your plan and never look back lol

As I'm sure you can understand, I am quite a bit excited!
Now, it has displayed the HSDPA+ icon, (H) and it displays 3G icon. (CM7)
I used to have t-mobile 4G service, but they said it was not available in my area. I never saw a 4G icon, but i used to see H all the time.
Now, I do see an H, and a 3G, they flash back and forth. I seem to remember it staying solid on H and very rarely would I see a 3G icon, but its been a while since I had my tmobile service turned up.
But when i use the net, it does the H icon with both arrows sending and receiving. At any rate, I've decided to go ahead and pay for the $60/mo plan and unlock my speeds. At that price, it just can't be beat. Its so reasonable and they are so pleasant and support you hacking ur own phones. i'm so happy i found these fellaz. I am even signing up with their dealer program.
EDIT: Oh and I just wanted to add that they even have website instructions to change your APN settings... even though they come preloaded and all you have to do is select it from the settings menu. They will even walk you through it. Not sure about if they will help you root and unlock sim, but you can always ask.

Well, after having simple mobile for the second month, and this is only the first month having the 4g (aka $60 plan).
It caps at 2GB of data then you are limited to 125Kbps max download. I called and they said the limit was 7GB. But I sware to you, same ROM's that worked dropped off the speed and they told me it was my phone... Now this is all normal, but they didnt even troubleshoot me at all, just told me it was my phone, i said it has the same problem with other phones, and my phone works on other sim cards at full speed. (so I guess they think my phone broke in a way where after 2GB it just couldnt get over the 125KBPS mark.)
So i go to look at t-mobile's homepage, cause thats who simple is, and low and behold for $60 you get unlimited all except after 2GB you get 3g Speeds... its all there in month by month plans on t-mobile's website. What a coincidence!!! I was told there was no limits at all any way. WHAT A LIE!
So all simple does is allow you to use a phone that t-mobile might have banned due to bad ESN or IMSI or w/e (serial number) and they get money for reselling t-mo junk.
So you only get 2gb of 4G then you will be limit to 125KBPS not even real 3g. They will lie to you and hang up, no refunds, no credits, no working with you.
They really made me mad how they told me I was downloading too much, they tried to put the blame on me. I asked them how much is too much!? and got real mad at that and they dropped that spiel quick. 2GB is nothing. Especially when you stream music in your car, the whole reason i have the thing. At 125KBPS i cant listen to a song in last.fm without it having to buffer for 5 minutes.... thats 2 songs in one buffer.
So I ended up asking for a credit or refund, they laughed (rude) and said they dont do refunds. I told them my credit card company does disputes. After winning the last 4 disputes against these lying cell companies, and with my proof, I guarantee they will do THIS refund!
I say just get tmobile prepaid. 60$ unlimited everything with 4g speeds up to 2gb and 70$ 4g speeds up to 5gb

thats the problem , t-mobile has 4G limits , then it throttles for the rest of the month , not cool . and i also have simple mobile , i used to only have the $40 3G plan , but i decided to try the 4G , and its DEFFINETLY worth 20 bucks more , in speedtest i get around 4-5 MBps download and i THINK like 1 MBps upload .

I learned that att mvno dont have priority on the network so I think that might explain why despite having full bars my data speeds are horrible during peak hours of the day. I heard that Tmobile doesnt deprioritize mvno so I was thinking of trying Solavei. I already have the sim card and free service for a month. I am just worried about coverage on tmobile's network. So my first question is how are people fairing with tmobile or solavei? I know tmobile is working on their network has anyone seen improvements in coverage? Also I was wondering if people are having the same issue with straight talk on the Att side during peak hours in large populated areas? I live in the bay area but i noticed the same speed issues over the holidays when I was in Memphis, Tn with net10.
IM loving it! i work in the bay area and get great speeds here! and at home also which is in fresno! coverage has gotten allot better and its only getting better! if i were you i would join before the 31st cause you get the free month of service and free sim card... if you want to join hit me up [email protected]...

tmo/solavei coverage ain't bad if you live in a big city or populated area. once you leave the city it usually craps down to edge or you lose signal altogether. but when your getting good signal the data is pretty fast, and no they don't prioritize, you'll get the same speeds on any tmo mvno as actual tmo. only thing I hate about T-Mobile is the indoor signal strength sux. but seeing as how I just got throttled down to .23 mb/s by st at&t halfway thru my billing cycle, I'll be switching back to tmo (solavei actually) next month

were you having data issues during peaks hours where you couldnt use data or it was really slow? Also how long ago did you have tmobile im waiting on my sim from solavei but i have been trying to gauge how much of an improvement tmobile has made on their network as far as coverage. Seems like its not much based on research no one has out right said they are experiencing better coverage

no my data was fine during peak hours on tmobile. I was on tmo up until the 9th of this month then I switched to st at&t

I have used the coverage map but user experience is better than looking at a map. Those maps arent always accurate and i feel sometimes the carriers embellish a little bit about their actual coverage. I guess ill just have to wait and see when the sim comes

I use att.mvno with H2O Wireless and don't get no peak slowdowns AFAIK. I don't stream videos and in general i view mobile sites rather than full sites as well so maybe that's part of why i don't notice much of a difference. Then again certain parts of AT&T's network are slammed, doesn't matter if it's prepaid of full post paid contract plans.

This may sound weird, but I've found T-Mobile's coverage map to be superbly accurate. It's inside buildings where it gets hazy.
To the OP, Straight Talk and Net10 use the same service ..just Net10 charges $5 more for it.
You go with these for the unlimited talk or data? Which is more important? If you can live with 100anytime mins try T-Mobile prepaid they have a 100 anytime min, unlimited text and 5GB of 4G speed then throttled but still unlimited, for $30/month.

I have been with Tmo for 9 years and 3 months ago cancelled and started a Solavei plan on the Tmo network. I went from a $180/month to $110/month month (2 phones). 4gb (per month) 3G/4G before throttle to 2G was the selling point for me. Tmobile is great if you don't travel out of cities/off the interstate. I've never had problems even when I traveled for my job 100% across America, but I was in cities and rarely went to rural/redneck areas.
The only downside (if its a downside) is that the Solavei website is fairly stripped of information about your phone plan. You really just log in and pay your bill (or setup auto-pay). There is no statistics (minutes/data/call log/etc...) like Tmobile had so you will have to use apps to track that stuff. I re-Rom a lot so it is tough for me to track statistics smoothly but this is really trivial and not a big deal.
The data being used on Straight Talk with TMob is a hairy one..on HowardForums some say they get capped at 4gb then some say at 7-10gb, but supposedly tmob is cracking down on the mnvos for data usage..
Atat on the other hand will straight up kick your ass off data completely on mvnos. But tmobiles own prepaid offerings aren't bad and you know what they say is what you'll get. And the T-Mobile my account info app on the play store works for their prepaid.

FYI - Straight Talk operates on both AT&T and T-Mobile and even Verizon in some places. You can get SIMs for either service depending on your phone (excepting Nexus and other unlocked devices where you can use both - even swap around if you want to).

I wanted to try Solavei because I heard it has data roaming while T-mobile prepaid doesnt. I figured that would help a little with coverage for data also 100 mins is too little for me I can run through that easily in a day( I work remotely from home 2 days out of the week so meetings can run over)
Thanks for the reply patiently waiting on the sim card hopefully I get good results on tmobile i just think Net10 and I guess Straightalk are pointless if i cant use data well during certain times of the day despite having full bars. It happened to me on too many occasions this past month in two different cities.
I've been using Straight Talk (with ATT Sim) for about a month and haven't run into any issues with using data throughout the day. I haven't reached the throttle point yet though.. Speeds with ATT are consistently 3mbit (yes, a lot slower then TMobile, but better coverage).

Don't do Solavei. I had it for a few days and data is very jumpy. I'm right outside of Dallas and my speeds were worse than Metro PCS. I think at one point it got down to 100-200 kbps. Way worse. And when I tried to set up my APN settings to get MMS and Solavei Web to work when only one or the other was working I went through two customer service reps and they didn't know what the hell they were doing. I got a refund and just went with a tmobile contract plan where I'm getting unlimited everything with no caps for $64 a month. I hate caps. Just stay away from Solavei.
Had AT&T ST, now T-Mobile prepaid, switching to Solavei soon.
For me on AT&T my phone gets decent reception in buildings, but T-mobile's HSPA+ is very fast outside big corporate buildings, which I prefer actually for streaming media. T-Mobile prepaid doesn't offer conditional call forwarding, so that's the main reason I'm switching to Solavei since I can't use Google Voice as my voicemail without that feature. AFAIK they are the only T-Mobile MVNO that offers it.
Did a bunch of reading.
I use/need:
1. ~800 minutes
2. ~1.5GB of data (was using 500MB on sprint, assume I'll use more on faster network)
3. Mostly urban, rarely rural. Willing to forego data when out in the wilderness
4. Google Voicemail
5. Would like to be less than $50/mo and/or 'contract free' (don't want to pay phone subsidy when I own my phone)
T-mobile $30 prepaid plan: Ruled out by 1.
Straight Talk - T-Mobile SIM: Ruled out by 4.
T-mobile $60 prepaid plan: Ruled out by 5. ($10/mo+ * 24 = a new nexus phone)
AT&T $65 plan: Ruled out by 2, 5.
Looks like my options are:
A: Solavei - T-Mobile Network
Pros:
1. Faster when data works
2. Same priority as T-mobile customers
3. 4GB on 4G data before throttle
4. Voice+Data roaming
5. Possible to save $20/mo if I refer 3 subscribers and they're sure to use my referral code (I already have 2 possible)
6. Seems to be better in congested areas (from visually reviewing data on rootmetrics)
Cons:
1. $ more than ST
2. Smaller overall network
3. Weaker building penetration
4. Expects me to become a network marketer to save, new users most likely won't properly attribute my referral
5. If you do sign up 3 referrals, you're basically on-contract and won't want to leave because of the savings, even if quality starts to suffers
B: Straight Talk - AT&T Network
Pros:
1. $5-8 less than Solavei
2. Bigger overall network = better voice+data coverage
3. Better building penetration
4. Easy to switch
Cons:
1. Slower data
2. Random throttling. Is it 70MB/day? Is it 2GB/mo? What is it? You'll end up asking: "WHY DID YOU THROTTLE ME?" They'll end up saying: "Dunno, see if it's faster next month. Everything is fine on our end."
3. Lower priority voice+data in congested areas/times. Network is getting beat up by iPhones+iPads.
4. No data or voice roaming

I've read several reports of poor T-mobile service in Buffalo, NY, but the fresh maps (-90 days) on these sites say otherwise. Willing to try magenta first, then fall back to random throttling and low priority on ST-ATT.
I've seen this come up on several threads and I get chats about it all the time. I work for Consumer Data Support at AT&T. This is not an official AT&T statement, just trying to help out my fellow Nexus users. This will only apply if you have an actual AT&T account, not pre-paid service or third party service. When you get your N4, you need to have an AT&T microSIM that is either active or new. Any SIM that was used previously and taken off of an account is no good.
Call or chat in to AT&T and tell them you need to update your equipment. Give them the IMEI (dial *#06#) and the ICCID from your SIM if it's new. Your IMEI should come up as an LG E960. Tell them to update your data plan to HSPA+. If you're already on an android-based LTE or HSPA+ data plan then you're good to go on all this so far. Changing the data plan will not kick you off of a grandfathered data plan (ie unlimited data). Oh, and of courese, you will only get HSPA+ speeds if you are in the right coverage area.
The most important part is the next step, the reason everyone's getting crappy speeds is the APN. LG programed the default AT&T APN as wap.cingular, that's an old APN. Use the following settings and restart your phone. You should be all set.

*On another note, if you're trying the LTE hack, you will need to have an LTE data plan on your account. Which means you need an IMEI for an LTE phone (one that AT&T will recognize) on your account for them to add the LTE plan. Once you've got that use the same APN settings, but change the APN from 'phone' to 'pta'.
I'll be happy to answer any questions on this, however if you want AT&T policy info or to ***** about your service I'm going to tell you to go to the AT&T website or to call 611.

Hey man...this kicks ass. I'm REALLY hoping this solves my odd network issues. I can surf the web and use Spotify/Pandora, among other things, all day no problem but Facebook rarely works (yet I get notifications...), I can't SEND email (yet I receive it...) and the speedtest app errors out after the ping test.
Can you get me that MMSC? PM...text message...whatever, I don't care. Hoping this would fix these couple issues and make my phone perfect!

For example, the settings I'm currently using came from the "how to get 4g speeds on AT&T" thread in the general section. They're the same as what you posted except for these entries:

APN protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN roaming protocol: IPv4/IPv6
Will the differences in these particular settings actually make any difference in the real world?

I don't see the IPv6 making a difference unless you're using something that requires it. As far as the APN type, what I posted is what I've been using, I'm not really sure what function those other types imply.

I've been trying every combination available and the typical data I get is 3M down and 1M up. Occasionally can get up to 5m down. Coming from a Skyrocket that got 20+ this is a real bummer.
Is there any advantage to running the APN at "phone" versus "pta"? Doesn't seem to change the download.
Setting IPv4/IPv6 was what was causing my data to drop out when leaving WiFi. The phone would be in this constant loop of data on/off until I toggled airplane mode on and off. One I changed the settings to IPv4 only, I haven't had an issue in weeks.

If you still have the LTE plan on your line, the PTA APN should work fine. I haven't personally tested it though. You can always change it to phone and test it out. The other settings are the same between the two.

I did have problems using IPv4/IPv6 as well, that was on StraightTalk. Not sure how it effects devices on AT&T, based on this though I would recommend keeping it on straight IPv4 unless 6 is needed.

That doesn't quite work. I'm on a shared data plan (unlimited everything), but AT&T will not (or cannot) upgrade the data plan for 4G unless you have an IMEI number of a phone they recognize as 4G capable.
After I got my phone I went into an AT&T store to get a new micro sim card and activate the phone on the network. When I got home I noticed my download speeds were only 0.01Mbps!!!! Did some research and found the APN was for a 2G phone. I created new APN configurations for both "phone" and "pta" with all the proper settings. I can now see a gray H above the signal bars, but download speeds are still below 3M because the data plan is throttling me to 3G speeds.
I called twice to AT&T's call center and went back to the AT&T retail store to ask them to update my plan to HSPA+, but every time I give my Nexus 4 IMEI number, they say they cannot change the plan to say Smartphone for 4G... all they can give me is a smartphone data plan for 3G. AT&T's database for IMEI numbers does NOT recognize a Nexus 4 as 4G capable so their system will not allow reps to change a customer's plan to 4G. I've reported this to Google support and they are checking into it.
Kinda sad to think all these Nexus 4 customers getting a great phone, but then having poor data speeds when using AT&T. Even the need to create new APNs is impossible for most people... how would a normal person even know to do that? So they are using a fantastic phone, but with a wap APN and 2G speeds! How stupid is that?
If you work for AT&T, can you explain how to get AT&T to recognize that a Nexus 4 is a 4G phone and allow setup and configurations to support the phone properly on a HSPA data plan?

If your previous phone was a skyrocket(LTE capable device), I'm assuming your plan is provisioned for 4g. You do realize you wont get the same speeds with the N4 vs skyrocket no matter what settings you try.

Even the need to create new APNs is impossible for most people... how would a normal person even know to do that? So they are using a fantastic phone, but with a wap APN and 2G speeds! How stupid is that?
If you work for AT&T, can you explain how to get AT&T to recognize that a Nexus 4 is a 4G phone and allow setup and configurations to support the phone properly on a HSPA data plan?

I'm on the DataPro plan with my N4. If they can't switch your plan to an appropriate HSPA+ here's what you can do;
Walk into an ATT store or Best Buy(BB) and grab the IMEI number from one of their 4g capable phones(demo unit). Call them back with that IMEI and they can switch it.

Right, the IMEI must be recognized by the system as HSPA+ / LTE / Etc to get the right plan.

The H data tag is for HSDPA, it's still 3G just better, but not quite HSPA+. I usually have H, and the phone will cycle between H and H+ depending on what I'm doing.

This is odd, how long ago did you try contacting us? Back in Dec when the N4 came out, we did not have the IMEIs, so this would definitely happen. LG has since sent us the IMEI range though, so all of the N4's should come up as LG E960s and have the right data plan. If you're on a Mobile Share account, then as long as the phone is listed as 4G you're all set. Try chatting in via the website and request to talk to someone in CDS, the data support team is your best shot at fixing something like this.

I'm aware of that "hack" and even mentioned it to call rep, but they said it was illegal to do it. I also had a heated discussion with an AT&T supervisor over the issue... even though I'm paying for 4G speeds and have a phone they didn't need to subsidize I still can't get them to accurately update their N4 records nor just change a data plan setting in their system to allow me to use what I'm paying for... extremely frustrating!
Google and LG really should take some responsibility for resolving the problem since they are selling the phone.

Does your H stay gray or turn blue like the bars? I'm assuming the gray means HSPA is available, but blue means it's actively using 4G.

The phone does show as LG E960 on my account online, but my data plan just shows "Smartphone", not "Smartphone for 4G" like my son's One X+. Both my son's phone and daughter's iPhone 5 can pull data down at 5M each while mine is lucky to get 3M... all in the same location in our home.
We're on a Mobile Share plan... and I asked both the tech and supervisor if I could be sent to higher level support... no can do they said... told me I need an IMEI number for a 4G phone to change the data plan. Will a rep just send me to CDS by just me asking?
Bottom line is something is STILL not set up properly within AT&T for N4 customers. Why was there only one APN for the phone and it was wap 2G? Why can't someone configure my data plan for a 4G phone without me tricking them with false IMEI numbers? These are things your average customer will never even know to do.

Well, I would call back and speak to someone else. I'm using the IMEI number from my SGS2(i777) without any issue.

The data tag does not turn colors, it will still be grey on H+ as well.

Those are both LTE phones, the mobile share plans have less complicated codes. The only two options are LTE and everything else, if you are on the 'smartphone' plan then it should be right. 3mbps down is low, but it's still an 'acceptable' HSPA+ speed.

Yea, if you ask to transfer they should sent you over. The only time transferring becomes a problem is if you have a company / school discount code on your account. Don't ask me why it matters, something to do with the agreement I imagine. But, it limits transfer options. The APN that LG defaulted to is still in use and works, you can pull 3G on it.. it just doesn't work as well as phone. Like I said in the OP, I have no idea why they used that one. Every N4 chat I've had though, my customer has reported better speeds immediately after switching to the phone APN.

To your last question, the answer is simple. Because you didn't buy the phone from ATT and sign another 2 year contract, they could give a crap about wasting energy to properly resolve your issue.
I went through something similar when I first got my N4. A supervisor basically told me, "because the phone wasn't built for their network(didn't buy from them), they could not guarantee results regarding data". WHAT?? I simply told them, it has absolutely nothing to do with whether the phone was "built" for your network, it accepts the SAME bands, as YOUR NETWORK, end of story!!

Thanks! I've gotten more information from you than several calls and visits to AT&T. Oddly, I just did a speed test and now I'm getting 5M downloads (matching the One X+ and iPhone 5) so maybe a APN change finally is working for me. I'm using the "phone" settings. I'll be satisfied with these speeds, but it still doesn't resolve a bigger problem that other N4 newbies will experience. I had to create the APN myself... and even knew to check these forums for help... something most customers will never do so they will be stuck with poor data performance on a great phone.
Do any of you guys use your carrier locked at&t phone on a prepaid service. Who's got the best monthly deal, data speeds, etc. I've never been off contract so I'm really not familiar with my options. Would sim unlocking make my choices any better or a waste of money? AT&T and Verizon are the only two carriers that work well in my area so I need to use there towers.
I've pretty much narrowed it down to cricket or straight talk. Has anyone had experience with either?

It's really going to vary alot by area. You can shop prices no problem but I'd try to find someone in your area with the services you're looking at.

From what I understand they both run on At&t towers but cricket run only on the at&t towers where as straight talk can roam on T-Mobile towers also. At&t coverage has always been fine in my area and I don't think my phone ever roams on my contract plan. Prices between the two plans are practically the same, just wanted to know if anyone had experience with them customer service, data throttling, etc
Gotcha, I know strait talk will throttle after 5gb on their unlimited data plan but other than that I don't know much. Good luck!

i have cricket, 5gb LTE for 45$ a month, not bad. their LTE speed is limited 8mb download. it' really NOT that slow. it uses the same tower as ATT.

After some extensive research I ordered the cricket sim with the $70 unlimited plan. They say it is truly unlimited but some online users say they throttle after 18-20gbs. I really just want my hotspot to work for downloading large files 200+ gigs a month. Where I live my only options for home Internet is DSL at maybe 175kbs ⬇. I should get my sim in tomorrow I'll post back some speed test

Is tethering included or are you using PDAnet or something? I'm interested in how this will turn out, I work for AT&T mobile and they would definetly do a deep packet inspection on you if you were trying to use anything over like 50 gigs a month and see your tethering. I hope it works for you, but if tethering isn't included there's no way you aren't going to throw some red flags with 200 gigs a month.

I hooked up my new sim yesterday and so far it's comparable to my at&t service as far as speed and coverage. The hotspot is not enabled on the unlimited plan, you have to pay an additional $10 a month to use it. Still not a deal breaker for me cause I use my phone for large torrents them copy over OTG to an external drive. I've already used about 10gb of data overnight last night and it hasn't throttled yet. I will be really testing the unlimited over the next 30 days to see if they throttle me down after alot of usage. From what I've read on cricket it's truly unlimited but they throttle your speed to 8mbs LTE and 4mbs 4G the whole time which isn't horrible by a long shot for your average user, for huge file download it's not great but still smokes my DSL so far I'm impressed and saving a ton of money compared to my at&t plan. The port of my number was painless didn't have to change apn or any other settings worked right out the box. $65 a month tax included with auto pay set up is hard to beat.
I use a VPN, when you say packet inspection does that mean they snoop to see where your usage is coming from? Will my VPN protect me from them seeing my activity?

Chatted with cricket and they said no hotspot but I could use as much data to the phone as I want, even 200+gb. Taking this with a grain of salt but here's the chat log.

Yeah unlimited on your phone is fine if it's legit using 200 gigs a month but it will still throe red flags and they'll inspect your packets (and find you're being legit). But if you try to tether 200 gigs and they inspect you they'll see what you're doing.

If I do use foxfi or another teether workaround with a VPN on each device can at&t/cricket see which device is using the data with there packet sniffing?
Question: I tried dropping my existing cricket SIM into my brand new AT&T S7 Edge. LTE works great, but if it goes to 4g for any reason (like during a phone call), it won't switch back to LTE unless I toggle airplane mode or reboot. I've done a couple factory resets and had cricket remotely refresh the SIM. No change. Even exchanged my phone today at Best Buy, thinking I'd gotten a bad one. Same issue.
Do I need to get a new SIM altogether, maybe? Any thoughts would be welcomed. I switched from the international version to get Samsung Pay, but I don't want a gimped phone because of it.

Maybe a new sim and update imei on your cricket account. I haven't had this issue but when I ordered my sim I put my imei from s7e. I'm not sure that this is the issue or not.
Edit just tested this making a phone call goes to 4g but as soon as I hang up it jumps right back to lte instantly
