Ad blocker - Transformer TF300T General

Hi I have tried a few ad blockers from the market but can't find one to work with a custom ROM. I am currently on AOKP.

For the web just use firefox and adblock extension.
I use the adaway in the playstore (I think that's what it was called). That works. You can also block ads at the router level if you have ddwrt.

I was talking about blocking ads for apps and adaway isn't working. Also tried the one from jrummy

Adaway worked and still works great for me on every stock or custom rom on every device i own. Never had any problem with it.
Too bad google just decided to remove all ad-blocking software from the Play Store.

I use AdAway on every ROM on every device, and it works perfectly.
Oh God, did they removed the app from the Play Store? Thank you titanium backup for being with me

Yes, ALL ad blockers are removed from the market. Google did this due to an agreement with developers.

Ad blocker & net toggle on android market works well. Or you can just disconnect all data connections before starting the app with. Adverts in it. Either way is good

yep, here is a link for a trial version: https://market.android.com/details?id=net.xdevelop.adblocker_t
works well for most of apps/games

AdAway question.

Can I block ads in games using AdAway? I'm new to this app and unsure how to use it outside the basics.

Simply press "Download files and apply ad blocking" and AdAway will block almost everything for you automatically :good:
You need to be rooted...
Since when did themes and apps section become the new q&a forum?

When would q&a be in apps section? Where else would one talk about apps.. I think its a thin line, I'm sure mods are doing a fine job
Anyways, Adaway has been removed from play store but still available online. It does require you be rooted for it to overwrite your host file. Most ads using will be redirected if listed in host file. Works well.

IIRC, AdAway didn't work for some games like Angry Birds. In that case, blocking their internet access with DroidWall did the trick.

Ad blocker

Usually use the one in ROM toolbox pro, but an update seems to have removed it. Any alternatives? Ads are driving me crazy.

I use AdAway. However, it requires root access and you can't get it from Google Play. I got mine before Google banned ad blockers from Play, but you can get it now from the F-droid repository.

Are you in the same situation as me where ads are blocked on WiFi but not on mobile data? If so then I haven't found a solution as of yet and I've tried numerous adblocking apps/zips. It may have something to do with PA but it's not the kernel since I get the same issue on Franco as well.
adfree android works great! but youll have to search google for it, as ad removing/blocking apps arent allowed in the play store anymore.

I've gotten used to it now so it doesn't really affect me too much but if you really want it try backing up your ROM and flashing a different one to confirm it's a PA issue and not something else.

He said it stopped working. He could be using the really outdated version that was on the Play Store. AdAway has received a couple updates since its removal from Google Play.
For me, AdAway is working just fine so.. its most likely due to using a outdated version
I had the latest adaway 2.3. It works on WiFi but not on mobile data. I'm just looking for something that will work on data.

Weird. It works fine for me on mobile data and wifi. AdFree is another alternative that I used to use but felt AdAway was miles ahead.

Yeah, I didn't get this issue on stock or on any ROM for my old HD2 but I do on PA which is quite odd. Still, I'm not too concerned since it seems to block some of the more intrusive popup ads and I don't seem to get many ads on YouTube.
I realize that I'm probably stating the obvious, but by blocking apps you are depriving developers of revenue.
Most Android devs are small shops. Without revenue, they'll simply concentrate on other platforms that ensure ad revenue (cough, cough Apple!). Is that something you really want to contribute to?

do they receive revenue from just having the ads visible or do you have to actually click on them? if you have to actually open the ad then I don't see how ad blocking software deprives them of anything, let's face it if you use ad blockers(and I don't) then you obviously have no intention of clicking on any ads

Agreed. They only make money if you click on the ad thats how Google AdSense revenue works.

My understanding is that revenue can be generated from both impressions and clickthroughs.

AdAway doesn't seem to work (I've tried Googling!)

I'm on a rooted MJ7 firmware. After enabling AdAway I've tried thepcspy.com's adblocker test which says it works, however when I tried going to nytimes.com all ads are still present. I tried using mobile data BTW.
I've disabled Chrome's data compression feature and made sure there are no proxy settings in my APN.

Hi,
I'm on MJ7, too and I use AdFree without any problems. In my opinion it is working better than AdAway. You should try it out
Haha OK sure. Oh and one other issue to clarify, I tried ABP and it blocks ads but not hide them. So for nytimes the ad images all can't load. I see the generic "image can't be found" graphic. Is this normal?

Epiphany: maybe adfree and AdAway DO work, but they don't block the ads I see on nytimes because they are not in the host file. I read somewhere that ABP is more powerful in this aspect because it uses regex instead of the host file. And because it subscribes to EasyList it blocks web ads.
Anyone can verify?
