How to get best performances for LG GT540 - GT540 Optimus General

Can somebody indicate me the way for getting best perfomance the low devices.
Best regards, Papu Singh
using lg gt540

You cant do much, take one of the latest roms like zoe 6.5 or also polish vodkas jellybean. They are both smooth.
Then maybe overclock the cpu to like 750 and take a governor like interactive
Some people say the seeder app might help, but I personally didnt notice any difference

Do the following:
- Install SDSL v4 or AOSP 2.0, not ZOE or any other softmods,
- Do not install any themes or tweaks,
- Do not use swap,
- Install launcher that uses small amount of ram ( Zeam launcher, Nemus Launcher, Lighting Launcher ),
- Enable zram and reduce VM Heap Size to 24 MB or lower,
- Keep number of installed applications as low as possible,
- Install Titanium Backup and freeze all not needed applications that are running in the memory ( example: DSP Manager, Google Search, Email ),
- Install lightweight applications.
This is the best you can do to make this device as fast as possible.

Yeah but a rom for games what that can be?

Just want my 32B to be as fast as possible. What to do?

So, I'm running Cyanogenmod 4.2.15.1 but I always think it's a bit slow. Maybe it's all the widgets, installed apps or often having mp3's playing in the background but I can't help thinking that the original ROM was much faster.
What can I do to improve speed?
I'm running TasKiller but that alone doesn't really speed things up enough.
For music, I'm using Meridian player, but perhaps there's a faster player out there?
Is it worth installing any of the 2.1 ROMs or should I wait for the official release or is that even likely to be slower than Cyanogenmod?
A couple of things you can do. You can use an application called setCPU which is for root users. It allows you to modify how the phone is run e.g. it can run from 128MHz to 528MHz depending on your preference. 528 will give you the highest performance. There is a min and max for them, and I have 384 to 528 usually.
Instead of taskiller, I use advanced task manager. Kill some processes as well. I like it better at least.
My recommendation is use superD or FastTest. They are, in my opinion, the fastest ROMs out there. A lot of Eclair ROMs are stable as well, but not as fast as the donut ROMs.
Thanks.
I've always thought that setCPU didn't make a difference, cause it's Magic is already running at max CPU in most ROMs. If not, how come it's mentioned so rarely around here? Surely it should be one of the most popular apps?
I've never heard of Super D or FastTest til you mentioned them. Might be worth a shot, although I'll have to admit I'd prefer not changing ROM all the time. When I first got the phone I tried loads of Sense ROMs but they all seemed either unstable or slow, or both. I think I'll read up a bit more on SuperD before having a go.
dont really have any other info on your setup except its a 32B....why not give us some more info in your signature, like:
what size and class SD card you have
whether you have swap enabled
whether you have compcache enabled
whether your sdcard is partitioned, and how
IMHO u dont need setcpu, its already written in to CM for the cpu to be 528-384
you could try:
JIT http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=637419
the swap userinit.sh http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5342507&postcount=577
and the lowmemory killer minfree approach (which i prefer instead of "task-killers" which are just another app running) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=622666
and of course, the all important 10 MB RAM Hack http://www.absolutelyandroid.com/10mb-ram-hack-for-cyanogenmod-version-4-2-15/
CM should be nice and fast for you on a 32B, best one I've found so far
"what size and class SD card you have
whether you have swap enabled
whether you have compcache enabled
whether your sdcard is partitioned, and how"
SD card is class 4, 8 GB I think.
Yes, swap enabled. Can't remember the exact details regarding how the SD is partioned. Anyway to check that?
Don't think I've got compcache enabled. As a matter of fact, I've never heard that term before.
That 10 MB hack sounds interesting. I'll give that a shot.
I actually use setCPU profiles to save battery as well. When the screen is turned off, I have it set for almost minimum.
SuperD and FastTest have 10MB RAM hack versions so you don't need to install it on your own I don't thnk JIT hack is necessary for these ROMs anyways.

I got this just do as I do on my magic
Cyanogen is good for tons of features & I respect Steve (the ROM developer) for the ROM but for full speed & stability on a 32B Magic I suggest going by my signature as a guide.
I'm using Meridian player also & find it the best but Mixzing or Tunewiki is faster Mixzing has a little more then Tunewiki though but Meridian player is the best overall for the features.
OK in regards to ROMS, flash a new one all this talk of setcpu & stuff merely provides a quick fix but doesn't help in the long run (at least in my experience on a 32B Magic).
In fact here...
Download Dwang 1.17.1 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567023
Add style & download Pays Black Elegance Theme 1.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=608412
Backup your apps & stuff & do a nandroid just to be safe.
Now proceed to enter recovery like your about to flash a ROM (as soon you will be ) wipe all that can be wiped (use Amon_RA Recovery for that) & flash Dwang like you did Cyanogen
Load it up (first start up is the longest), set up & when you hit the home screen power off your Magic & then switch it on into recovery like you are gonna flash a ROM (there it is again).
Flash Pays Black Elegance 1.1 Theme (NO WIPE!!) just flash over Dwang once that is done reboot & then try it for a week & report back here with your verdict
This is what I'm using & have been for over 2months now & I don't see me switching anytime soon as I can't find anything that is éclair that is like this ROM.
YES its 1.6 but it is super sweet for a 1.6 & personally for me it beats those 2.1 ROMs (which are good don't get me wrong but they ain't no Dwang)
ROM Stats
121 Apps installed
15-25sec wait on home screen load at times but not always & that is only cause I use like 12 widgets & filled 4 of the 5 screens with icons to applications.
10MB Hack is on this so 3D Games are a little laggy otherwise overall the best ROM i have used & only 1 random reboot but I kinda caused that running a whole heap of stuff like 30 processes at once haha.
Anyway let me know your verdict I hope my tip helps!
From my experience, super d 1.10.2 was, by far the fastest rom i've ever, used i havent messed with swap or compcache, but super d truly gave me that wow factor when it came to my phone, only downside is that it sorta ate my battery real quick, and i changed back to 1.9.3 wesgarner kernel, which is pretty quick too ...
Use Dwang 1.17.1, buy CacheMate from Market and clear your cache weekly.
This is the fastest I can get my 32B to run. I've tried Super D and CM, they are slower in my opinion. Dwang includes 32Mb compcache by default which seems to be the sweet spot. I've never played around with swap on SD card.
I use the default music player with Pure Music Widget. I used to use some other music player with "genius-like" functionality and all that rubbish but found it to be too slow for my liking.
Make sure you do the build.prop edits for HSPA as per this thread.

running services taking too much ram

hi all
i am on juwe's rom and semaphore's kernel
i use tw launcher 4.5 and this tends to crash loads! i think its the ram in the running services
apps like whatsapp, live profile, skype take up unnecessary space
is there a way to stop these for good and for it to only update me upon request?
i just dont want the launcher to crash everytime
uninstall them ?
these apps must stay in memory, thats the hole point with them.
Try a different launcher, TW is heavy and buggy, try zeam, its lightweight and fast
Edit
If you aren't bothered about 720p recording, you could also use semaphore big mem kernel
Sent using geek power
Thanks for the reply is there that much of a difference by semaphores big mem to the normal? I didnt know 720p would take so much space!
The thing is I like tw launcher aswell but hey somethimes change benefits is zeam the one? Hows go launcher any good or should I use launcher pro?
There are soo many out there!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
You get another 19MB of RAM if you use the bigmem version of Semaphore but you can't use HD 720p video (which I don't use anyway as it takes up too much space!)
I like Zeam because it so fast and lightweight (doesn;t take much memory).
I also use folder organiser as I got fed up scrolling for pages and pages looking for apps.
Folder organiser lets you create your own folders on the screen and place whatever apps
you want in there with whatever icon you want. I only have 2 screens now

It's not smooth !

Hello,
I'm using JB rom. I love ICS but there is one problem : scrolling screens aren't smooth. I mean everything is (settings, options, etc ...) except the screens that scroll.
I hate that because I've the impression my phone is lagging
What can I do to correct that ?
Thanks.
Try enable 16bit transparency, disable surface dithering and enable purging of assets in performance settings, I get the best performance with this setup. Also make sure its a clean install of the rom and you haven't undervolt too much as this can cause lag and reboot, hope I helped
Sent from the real world by hacking into the matrix
One more thing, I use ram manager pro on "hard gaming (less aggressive)" setting and it smooths performance, however apps will close more often in background, you can also try "v6 supercharger" if you know what you're doing to achieve the same
Sent from the real world by hacking into the matrix
Do these settings will not consume my battery too much ?
Also I flashed a 2.2 CEE Froyo Rom, installed a kernell but it said that it failed (dunno why), and then installed the rom et the apps. Of course I did wipes.
Also, I found an app called Jelly Bean Launcher. It's really really smooth. But I know it's a fake and if it is possible I prefer running the true one.
Edit : Your settings didn't change anything. Scrollings screens aren't smooth. I'm sad because everything is perfect except that :'(

Maybe its just the build, I've never tried cm10 but people say its smoother than cm9 so maybe try a different build, my suggestions are based on what I find in cm9, default settings has choppy scrolling for me, only other cause I can think of is too many apps installed running in background or low CPU speed, try overclocking if you haven't, I run at 1.1ghz
Sent from the real world by hacking into the matrix
I use apex launcher and its very smooth on CM10!
Ahh yes maybe its as simple as a launcher change, I use go launcher but apex looks more authentic as its based on stock

Hey!
First of all make a backup (at least from /system).
It happened the same to me: it was too slow! No matter what, CPU settings, RAM MAnager profile, task killer, etc until I changed my dalvik vm settings. Now my Defy is amazing!
I read this article https://ryanolson.wordpress.com/2010/07/13/test-how-changing-the-max-amount-of-memory-per-vm-heap-can-effect-your-rom-cyanogen/ and found that my dalvik vm heap was wrong.
First I tried 16m with "RAM manager free" and had a bootloop, I had to restore a backup for that
Then I tried 32mb and I still had a bootloop.
Finally I tested again 32mb and forced in the build.prop the same 32mb and it finally booted. (I used this app to edit it)
Resuming:
1) Set 32m in RAM Manager Free
2) Set dalvik.vm.heapgrowthlimit=32m & dalvik.vm.heapsize=32m
3) Be aware with the Settings menu, it's a memory killer app (try to kill it whenever you can)
If you have any problem you can always restore the system backup.
Greetings!

Minimalizing RAM usage / footprint

Hi folks. I'm sorry to trouble everyone again.
DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT A DEV and I AM NOT A COOK.
I want to know, is there a way, where I can say take a custom ROM, and then modify the existing parts so that i can reduce the RAM footprint.
I have no experience using any ROMS except Ilyaa's CM10.1 custom ROM which he cooked up. Even on stock gingerbread i only toyed for it for a day after i bought it and immediately followed the instructions and did a custom firmware (I even had a thread about it because the first time i did it i accidently deleted /boot)
What I had in mind is to somehow replace bloated apps with apps that uses FAR lesser RAM footprint.
For example, the Trebuchet launcher is fine, but I wanted something more minimalistic so i went for Lightning Launcher and also Zeam Launcher (TagHome launcher is not available for 4.2, sadly)
What i discovered was Smart Launcher uses about 16MB of RAM. Lightning initially only used 3.1MB, (then somehow bloated up to 20MB even when i did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING) and ZEAM launcher is hovering around 15MB.
I am not sure if this is ROM related issue, but I want to ask users of other ROMS (especially the custom ICS ROMs like MIUI and DZO AURORA since its considered the best of all U8800 custom ROMs) if you can reduce the footprint?
Truthfully, I have tried GREENIFY and also another memory app that another forumer has recommnded for setting minimum values, but i still keep getting ONLY 20-40MB free RAM. I have replaced the super bloatware Facebook for Android by Facebook and Twitter and replaced them with SCOPE (far lesser RAM used than both app combined)
Does anybody have any idea of what we can do?
As far as i know when u are connected to the internet most of the apps run in the background and thus u have less available ram. Widgets also drain a lot, try to avoid them. U can tweak some kernel values so that the system will make more available free ram , like minfree values.

THis is what i did. However the it does not affect my memory, and i suspect it was the ROM because of the previous versions was better. I have not tried ICS though.

Well, that did not helped much, actually. I'm not sure what is the real issue behind it, but I'm still tinkering with some of the ROMs and installing what I perceive as low-RAM-usage apps.
Currently i'm running GREENIFY and MEMORY MANAGER (that sets the minfree values) and hopefully by later i'll come out with something useful.
I'm not that of a poweruser, so using another custom kernel then doing some adjustments not specified by the dev is a little too much to me, unless I know i can follow through with the steps.
update:
Some of the apps that I have perceived as low RAM usage and downright functional (not beautiful, but gets things done)
Launcher:
- Smart Launcher
- Zeam Launcher
- Lightning Launcher
Facebook:
- Atrium
- Scope (Twitter and Facebook)
Twitter:
- Twicca
- Scope
- Echofon
Google +
(no alternative)
Media:
- Quickpix (gallery alternative)
- Hiki Player (music player alternative)
- Nano player (music player alternative, bare bones)
- MX Player (video player)
- Tubemate (at least you can greenify this over the stupid Youtube App)
E-Mail:
- default email client
- K9 email client
Contacts and messaging:
- Contacts + (this one does a lot)
- pansi sms (sms alternative)
File Managers:
- Root Browser Lite
- ES File Explorer.
That's about it for the time being.
At this time 3rd June 2013, Google is updating the core apps. I am unable to uninstall the email apk and gmail apk.

[Guide] Tips and tricks that work on any ROM -- faster, smoother, better looking

Alright so besides all the guides we have about using scripts like supercharger and all those stats stuff/scripts that we all have our preferences, i think most of us underestimage the power of customisation that our Willy is comfortable or not with.
The steps that i take on every rom i install so far are simple, and i managed to make even the new CM10 rom a little bit faster, (talking about CM9 speeds on CM10 ROM)
1. First of all i use Launcher Pro. I know it doesnt look as good as holo or any other ICS launcher, but it speeds up the whole device a lot. The main reason I use it is in the second step tho.
2. Download LCD Density Modder. This app will help you increase your screen resolution (also known as resolution hack). Our device uses 120 by default. I recommend 110, 105 if you really want that kick.
What does this do? -- It's simple. Ever saw a friend with say... a samsung galaxy S2? When that guy opens the app draw, half of his installed apps are on that display. By increasing your resolution this helps you get a similar result, by only sacrificing a little bit of the font. Going under 105 will make the font too small, but if you're fine with that, go ahead.
THE CATCH!!!!!
Do NOT use LCD Density Modder if you have Holo Launcher AT ALL. Holo launcher will crash as soon as you will change the density, and after the reboot it will end up in an open/crash loop. Feel free to try LCD Density with any other launcher, but when you do so, DON'T set a default launcher, so when u press your Home button, you can choose Launcher Pro(you should install it as a failsafe measure).
If you used LCD Density Modder with holo launcher anyway then consider yourself slapped by me. Now you have to reinstall your ROM, because there's no other way you get another launcher without Holo working (at least not that I'm aware of).
3. Assuming you singed in on your google account, downloaded any app you want and finished sync'ing your phone with the account data, i strongly recommend disabling background data (Menu->Settings->Accounts & sync settings). Whenever you want to use the Play Store, you enable it. Or perhaps after you've added new contacts and similar situations. Otherwise, it will just drain your battery and slow down your device.
4. This is something that I rarely do because after finishing the steps above, i feel the phone is good to go. Unused Widgets. Remove any widgets you don't use or need.
Any working recommendations will be added giving credits to those that came up with it. Also please post only tweaks and tricks recommendations unrelated to scripts/services or stuff like that, since i feel this should be a noobs(like me) comfortable thread.
The print screen is made with the 100 setting , 20 lower than the default. If the font bothers you, go for 110.
Tips hmmm, i dnt know why we need going for ics or jb then searching tips to fast to speed up, anyhow below are the tips:
A) Stay to ginger bread cm7 basesd roms. cm7 takes small system space using mtd so more internal memory for cache can be on internal memory.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1881946
[GUIDE][ICS][JB] Make CyanogenMod Faster & Smoother + Battery Tips [NEW ULTRA MOD]
B) check running sevices see what u not need turn them off, have app "autostart" that is vey helpful.
C) root the htc, freeze the system apps u may not need, i have freezed news n weather, cm stats, dsp manager, fota, cm update notification, and play sevices too.
D) and mods are must v6supercharge, and crossbreeder.
I m sure we all like to enjoy a smooth htc wildfire.
Why off background data as alot of emails will be missed, when the phone is already fast.
