[NOOBS GUIDE] Create your own stock firmware FTF & Flashtool flashing guide[+ pics]
In a stituation where you are semi bricked or you need to restore your phone to stock on a locked bootloader for warranty reasons, what do you do?
You can flash an FTF in flash tool to restore your phone to stock without losing your data, but downloading from the firmware links can be a pain in the neck with slow downloads and also the firmware to restore your phone to stock may not even be available for your particular device due to branding, country, carrier etc.
You can flash using SUS (Sony Update service) and it will be much quicker plus your firmware will always be available but you will end up losing your data
After reading online i found you can download the official firmware for your specific device using SUS, package it into an FTF then flash through flashtool. And you can keep your data.
Most users may not know how to fully do this and your average noob is probably already lost and confused.
So i created this noobs guide with all you need to know
Stage 1 = Installation
Stage 2 = Getting files to create an FTF
Stage 3 = Creating FTF
Stage 4 = Flashing FTF
PLEASE FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY TO AVOID DATA LOSS
Tools required:
1. Flashtool . Latest version can be found here
2. Sony Update Service Direct link to download is here
3. JRE may be required if Sony Update Service doesn't install it for you, can be found here
4. LOCKED BOOTLOADER is required otherwise sony update service will reject your phone.
Currently there is no way to relock bootloader, if you are unlocked you will need to wait till we have a relock procedure
Stage 1 - Installation
Step 1. Install Flashtool using the installer file downloaded above, this should normally install in C:\Flashtool
Step 2. Install Sony Update Service, IT is better if you install it to the directory C:\Sony Update Service\
when it asks you where to install, This will make things easier and quicker when creating the FTF. and this is what i will refer to in this guide
*Step 3. Install JRE ONLY if Sony Update Service fails to install it or it does not run.
Stage 2 - Getting files to create an FTF
Step 1. Load up Sony Update Service, will ask you to accept license whenever you run it with some tips before you start, CLICK START
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Step 2. Next it will ask you to connect your phone, Switch off your phone, Keep hold of volume down and plug your usb into the phone. Your phone LED will briefly flash Red then Green
Step 3. SUS will tell you, you are already up to date, Tick the box and Click install
Step 4. SUS will ask you to confirm data removal, and inform you all DATA will be lost, CLICK YES
NOTE: You will not lose your data if you click yes and then follow the rest of the instructions,
Step 5. SUS will start to download the official firmware for your device, it will not install anything to your device till it has finished downloading all the firmware,
MAKE SURE YOU KEEP AN EYE ON IT AS SOON AS IT HITS 100%, PULL YOUR USB OUT OF YOUR PC ASAP, RAPID, QUICK, FAST WHATEVER OTHERWISE YOU WILL END UP FLASHING FACTORY FIRMWARE AND LOSE DATA
If you pull it out before 100% the download will stop and you will have to follow steps 1 to 5 again, it will resume from where it left off.
At this point i pulled my USB OUT STRAIGHT AWAY ! BEFORE IT TRIED FLASHING MY PHONE
Your Download will be saved in your C Drive > Sony Update Service > DB > some numbers (mine was 13740270) > blob_fs
But at this point it is not in FTF and will need decrypting
Stage 3 - CREATING YOUR FTF
Step 1. Load up flash tool. Once it has opened, click Tools on the menu bar at the top THEN SUES/DECRYPT
Step 2. Click Browse and select your blob_fs folder we discussed above C: > Sony Update Service > DB> ####some number#### > blob_fs
This will show you 4 files, not sure if some might show more or less, but generally 4 on the left in Available files
Step 3. Click on each file then the arrow to send it to files to convert then click convert, Note if it is not doing anything be patient, Decrypting can take several minutes and it will not update you until each file is fully decrypted.
Step 4. Once it has decrypted, it will automatically bring up the Bundler. Give your FTF a name, Version and Branding, see how i named mine.
Move across everything EXCEPT LOADER.SIN from the folder list on the left to the firmware content on the right using the arrows.
If you include loader.sin then you get an error when flashing with flashtool and flashing aborts! this is why i have requested you do not move/include it
Step 5. Click create, a little box will pop up with devices, just double click on C660X SONY Xperia Z or press ENTER
Step 6. Flash tool will then create your FTF, It will automatically save it in C:\Flashtool\Firmwares and also whenever you load flashtool and flash in flashmode it will show you the one you created.
Stage 4 - FLASHING
Step 1. Load Flash tool if you haven't already done so and click the black lightning icon. Then make sure flash mode is checked and click ok.
Step 2. Click your firmware, this should show up by default, if it doesn't then browse to your firmware folder by clicking browse at the top
Step 3. UNTICK DATA & CACHE under wipe if you would like to keep your data
otherwise leave it ticked if you want to restore everything to stock and lose data as well
Step 4. Click Flash and then Flashtool will ask you to connect your phone in flashmode
Power off your phone if it is not already off, Hold Volume down button and then plug your USB in
Step 5.Wait for it to flash then disconnect your phone and boot, Note: keep hold of power button till it vibrates once then it should boot up.
I just recovered from a semi brick/bootloop while testing Krabappels recovery for locked bootloaders.
Successfully downloaded from Sony Update Service within 20 minutes, created the FTF and then flashed the phone without losing my data. Firmware links on the forum were showing 1 hour or more to download
Phone is back to normal and working with all my data and settings still there.
Don't forget to click thanks if this helped
As this is my first Xperia device i have worked on. (X10 was always stock) Credits go to: Androxyde, Bin4ry, Krabappel2458, DooMLoRD for all they have done and are doing!

Have you unlocked your bootloader?
You can only use SEUS or PC Companion if your bootloader is locked.
Re: [NOOBS GUIDE] Create your own stock firmware FTF & Flashtool flashing guide[+ pic
yes sorry I forgot to mention you will need to relock before you can. Sorry I forgot about that. I'll update post 1.
There is no way to relock yet. You will need to wait till a relock procedure is found below you can run this

Re: [NOOBS GUIDE] Create your own stock firmware FTF & Flashtool flashing guide[+ pic
You can relock bootloader using latest version of flashtool.
I have tested that it works, by relocking and unlocking a few times.
It may say rooting status: unknown after relocking, but that may just be me as I relocked on the older version of flashtool . Not seen anyone else say there's say unknown after using flashtool to relock.

Worked 100%, although when I disconnected cable at download completed, my phone wouldn't start. Kept getting sony logo and red light. Ended up going through the whole update process to get the phone on.
All good though now and have the FTF file to use incase anything happens in the future =)
Thanks VIPER. Your guide helped me on the Sensation and has helped again over here!!!

Thanks I'll update post one regarding the red light. It's handy having that FTF. It's from a trusted source, you know it is for your phone without a doubt as Sony would not use the wrong firmware. Lol otherwise everyone would use it to debrand.
And it didn't take forever to download. Hopefully I'm going to be more active in the Z forum. Thanks for your feedback

Just to clarify further. It would be three firmware. Three would be pised off if sony unbranded everyone lol. They have carrier agreements. So your ftf would be three branded

Great Tutorial
This really helped, my flash just finished (was stuck at sony logo). Now rebooting.
you're my hero!
kind regards,
boris slaghuis
Just one question, can I skip the kernal in the FTF? or the kernal is a must item for the FTF?
million thanks, now I have the most updated FTF for backup in case there are issues. But just to let all knowing that even unplug the phone when the downloading is completed, I have to flash the phone (just can't boot up normally).
Re: [NOOBS GUIDE] Create your own stock firmware FTF & Flashtool flashing guide[+ pic
Asome I managed to do this, but after I did it when I pulled out USB when at 100% , tried to boot phone ended up in boot loop !!!!???? So had to put in fresh install,could not even get cwm to boot but I had back up made any one else have this prob ??

hi i tried your method but its creating a FTF of only 14 MB
EDIT: solved
Thank you very much Viper!!! I manage to de-brand my XZ. because of your method Thank you once again!
Thank you for the guide!
I do have a question, if i get an update in SUS like .434 most recently and update my phone and extract the .ftf file from that.
Will that work aswell or is there something diffrent with the fulll "factory data reset flash"?
I did a ftf from the update and then compared filesize from NL ftf and it differs in filesize, NL generic is 720MB and my Nordic unbranded ftf is 712MB.

Hello, i have an Xperia Play 2.3.3/3.0.1.A.0.145 Clean Bootloader locked version.
And i want to root it with this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116090
(And the unlocking bootloader way is not an option because i had a lot of problems with it and i can't flash anything with it)
anyway, the problem is when i plug my phone and the flashtool asks me what device i choose X10 (the first option)
then i choose the FW and select all the files and cleck flash.
and i fallow the instructions by unplugging my phone and hold the back button and plug it again.
So far so good, but when the flashing begins and start with the first file, this massage appears:
13/013/2011 05:13:49 - ERROR - Error flashing. Aborted
13/013/2011 05:13:49 - INFO - Now unplug the device and power it on
13/013/2011 05:13:49 - INFO - Then go to application settings
13/013/2011 05:13:49 - INFO - turn on Unknown Sources and Debugging
And yes i did what the massage told me to do.
and i tried to flash so many times with no good.
so please help me or tell me what i'm doing wrong.
Are you using the beta version of flashtool? (think it's 2.9.1). It's the only one supporting the play. The reason I ask is I don't choose any phone when flashing I only have a x10 .exe when flashtool is extracted to my desktop
Regards Dousan...
When I go to use FlashTool, I get like 3 options as far as 'firmware'. Two X10 ones, and a 'Generic UK Xperia Play' one. The latter has about 8 or 9 different files in the pop-up column, while the other two only have like 2 files each. I think I'm supposed to flash the firmware that says Xperia Play UK Generic, correct?

Yes. And when it's done you root it with gingerbreak or any way you like. and finally you do OTA update.
Note: Your bootloader must be locked.

If you didn't unlock it your self, Then it should be locked.
@ddsds it might be the file you're trying to flash that's corrupt or something, maybe a redownload will help. Have you installed the ggsetup.exe? You might also try deleting flashtool and re-extract it again?
This is how I proceed with flashing:
1. Turn phone off.
2. Start flashtool.
3. Hit flash button in program and wait for it to tell me to plug in phone.
4. Plug in phone - it flashes.
5. Turn on phone.
(first time I flashed I chose the fw file and I only have the UK generic for the play located in that folder wich I downloaded from a thread here on xda).
(make sure unknown sources and debugging is on)

Here is a full guide on how to unroot and back to official stock firmware for Galaxy SIII Mini GT-I8190. It is useful also if you soft brick your phone
!!!BE SURE THAT YOU FLASH THE RIGHT FIRMWARE FOR YOUR VARIANT!!!Do it on your own responsibility! if you follow this guide properly u will be on the safe side

Before we proceed, make sure:
1-You have installed your Samsung Galaxy SIII Mini GT-I8190 USB drivers on your PC (the easiest way is to install Kies).
2-You need to enable USB debugging mode (Settings>Developer options) which is deactivated by default.
3-Your SIII Mini GT-I8190 should have 70-80% charge remaining.
4-Your SIII Mini GT-I8190 should be factory unlocked.
5-Backup your important data like Call logs, SMS and other data stored in phone memory in case if anything goes wrong, your data is not hurt.
6-Make sure that kies program is not running & disable antivirus.
This guide is only for Galaxy SIII Mini GT-I8190. So don’t bother to try it on other devices.
How to do it:
Step 1) Turn OFF your mobile and go to Download Mode by pressing and holding the Volume Down + Home Buttons together for few seconds followed by Power button then proceed with volume up. (For some phones, when you see the construction Android robot and a triangle, press Power again to confirm to enter into Download Mode).
Step 2) Now open ODIN on your PC and connect your Galaxy SIII Mini GT-I8190 to your computer.
Step 3) Once your phone is successfully connected to your PC, the ID:COM box on ODIN will turn blue and will show the COM port number.
Step 4) unzip the downlowded file, u will get a Home.tar file.
Step 5) click on pda (in odin) and choose the file "Home.tar"
Step 6) check "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" options and make sure that "Re-Partition" is unchecked
Step 7) Click on Start button in ODIN window to start the installation process. The process will take few minutes to complete.
DO NOT UNPLUG USB CABLE WHILE EXECUTING THE PROCESS, YOU MAY BRICK YOUR PHONE!
Step 8) When the installation is completed, you read a "Pass". your phone will restart (first boot will take a longer time so don't panic) :good:
It is recommended to make hard reset after flashing to have a fresh official firmware
NOTE 1: If you flashed custom recovery when rooting, please restore your stock recovery, do it before flashing stock firmware: refer to tsy0n thread.
NOTE 2: If your phone stuck into a bootloop after flashing the firmware, take-off battery, reinsert it, boot in odin mode and flash "param.tar" (attached) as PDA.
NOTE 3: If you have a corrupted partition table, (Odin says: "there is no pit partition" or "Re-Partition operation failed"), flash pit file for your device (attached) (put it in pit window) with your firmware, in this case "Re-Partition" must be marked.
Odin troubleshooting: If Odin accidentally gives you "fail" try the following:
- Repeat procedure.
- Make sure that all actions of Kies are disabled from task manager.
- Change usb port.
- Try another usb cable (make sure it is the original).
- Try another Odin version.
- Uninstall and re-install driver.
- Try another computer.

Yes I understand. Just wanted to share an alternative and easy method if unroot is all you need. Dont know what gets deleted and whats not. I've never tried this method, but of course it won't revert back to original recovery or anything like that.

First of all, this is my first post, thank you all for providing me this excellent information source!
I was looking for the original Dutch firmware, which I cant find in the list in this thread.
I wan't to flash my Galaxy S 3 mini to official stock firmware, because I bought a T-mobile(provider) version yesterday(good price). Everytime I turn my phone on or off I see the damn T-mobile logo and sound, so I want to flash or if needed root.. I allready installed Kies and did a firmware update, but that updates to the same one I have now with the T-mobile logo..
As far as I know, Kies does not provide an option for a clean firmware install without the T-Mobile provider logo and sounds on startup..
This is my first smartphone, and I'm new to Android, so I will be doing lots of ready before I hook my device up to Odin!
Thanks!

It's a sim lock free phone, I use Vodafone as a network provider. Saturn(the shop) had a special offer on it, but it is T-Mobile branded. So it works fine with my Vodafone network, but you have the built in T-Mobile crap when you turn it on and off plus some bloatware apps..
Does that makes sense?
Oh what the heck, it doesn't matter anyways I will probably root it tommorow anyways..
But I need to do alot of reading first so that I know what I'm doing! The idea was to install a clean version of the firmware, witout the T-Mobile bull..
Thank you for the Dutch version!

Chainfire3D is for froyo/gingerbread only.
Go to download mode and flash the fix to be able to enter recovery.
You probably still have to flash rom using odin as I dont think clear cache is enough, and you don't have any nandroid backup I guess.
Take a look at the toolkit in the dev-section.

Most of the "how to" stuff in this thread is still relevant which is why I'll leave it in for reference, but to update and root (with UL BL) the latest version simply...
Download and install the latest Flashtool
Run XperiFirm (comes pre-bundled with the Flashtool) to download the latest FW.
Download [UB ONLY] [kernel] Root, init.d support, Recovery & Busybox for 14.6.A.0.368
For a locked bootloader you'll need to read a thread like [D5503][Stock][PRF+FTF][Lollipop]14.6.A.0.368_CustomizedIN_Pre-Rooted with recovery
I'll be moving to the Z5 Compact in the coming weeks so this will be one of the last posts I make here in this section.
NOTE:
WAIT for the Flashtool to prompt you when to enter flashmode otherwise your Phone will simply reboot.

newest Sony devices have three boot modes... these bootmodes can be reached when device is powered off...
Normal - just press power button and device starts booting
Flashmode - this mode is used to flash stock OFFICIAL firmware using flashtool, denoted by GREEN LED (this is similar to DOWNLOAD/ODIN mode of the Samsung devices)
Fastboot mode - this is a special mode, denoted by BLUE LED, used when we want to flash custom kernel, custom system images, for that we need to unlock bootloader, i will tell more details about this later...
[ various key combinations ]
this is most important part...
known key combinations so far:
while device is power OFF
Volume Up + USB cable connected to PC -> FASTBOOT MODE (BLUE LED will light up)
Volume Down + USB cable connected to PC -> FLASHMODE (GREEN LED will light up)
while device is power ON
Volume Up + POWER (for 10 seconds) -> resets the battery, its like removing the battery and putting it back in [device will vibrate once]
Volume Up + POWER (for additional 5 seconds, total 15 seconds) -> will power off hard, device will power down [device will vibrate thrice]

NOTE:
If you have UNLOCKED your bootloader then trying to update OTA will fail and you will need to use the Flashtool to update.
To De-brand your Phone you need to flash a Stock/UnBranded/Generic .ftf.
The ONLY way to Sim Unlock your Phone is by PAYING for an Unlock Code from your Carrier/Network Provider or a Third Party source, flashing Firmware will not change that. O2 however does UNLOCK for FREE if you're a Pay Monthly customer.

If you got your Phone from a carrier then the chances are you wont be able to unlock your bootloader and at the time of writing this there is no easy work around. So if you plan on using custom ROMS like CM then you need to get a SIM Free/Un Branded Phone. In the UK it's reported that the Carphone Warehouse provides all their Phones SIM Free even if you get a contract but you would have to check yourself.

It's fairly simple:
(steps in windows are for win vista or newer, but on XP and older it should be similar)
On your Windows PC, rightclick on any folder you want to share > "properies" > "sharing" tab > "sharing" button > click on "share" button
Your phone must be connected to the same network as your PC
Add new windows share on your phone:
into "Host" field type in the name of your compurer (it can be found if you rightclick on "This Computer" > properties > (specify system settings) > "Computer name" tab > Entire computer name)
into "Share" field type in the name of shared folder on your PC
into "username" field type in your username on the PC with shared folder
into "password" field type in your password on the PC with shared folder
Tap on "save" and switch the switch next to the new created entry to "ON" position
(NOTE: some names of things in windows can be little bit different as I do not use windows in english language)

No, I'm waiting for an exploit-based root method. I don't really want to lose my TA partition by unlocking the bootloader first.

Need root to perform the TA backup. Chicken-egg problem
Preferred solution for many will be Root via exploit - backup TA - unlock bootloader - CWM/TWRP etc

Partition where some keys are stored. If you unlock bootloader you lose those keys and they are used for some Sony services like Bravia Engine and TrackID...
That's why you want to backup your TA before unlocking. So you can restore it later when you reflash stock rom

FYI I rooted with the currently known cwm based solution and.
Track I'd still works... Used it without issues today..
However. No audio effects work like the equalizer and the different sound effects.. The settings are still there and you can make changes but no effect on sound. The same happened to another user using the same root process ...
So it seems unlocking the bootloader of this phone has some new side effects.....
So. HEADS UP TO YOU ALL...

Just root using this method and you don't need to worry about losing bravia engine etc. or your TA partition

Refer to post #1 of this thread - there are currently 2 methods of rooting the Z1C depending upon whether or not you wish to unlock your bootloader.
Hi everybody welcome to my tutorial about Flashing with Flashtool. This thread is for those who want to reflash their device back to Sony Stock. See below for last details about this thread and the last build by Sony.

Latest Android build released by Sony: 12.1.A.1.205
Let's begin shall we.. We shall!
First you need to download the correct ftf file for your device/operator or needs. This can be done here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2311964 In there you can share and download firmware files in .ftf format..
You alsol need a program called Flashtool. You can download this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
For Windows 8 and 8.1 users I also recommend you to read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2095087 Microsoft has enhanced the security in Windows 8/8.1 and Windows won't install proper signed drivers.
When you are done with that you need to move your downloaded firmware file to the proper location for flashtool to be found:
C:\Flashtool\Firmwares
After that you are good to go, just remember the following:
Bootloader locked? If not you wont have BE2/OTA/PCC etc (for unlocking and relocking: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2354721 )
I've made backups of my important files that are stored on my phone?
Battery at atleast 50%?
I have patience?
I got something to do meanwhile?
The last two things are very important
Let's get started:
1: Open Flashtool:

}
Flashtool(.exe) for 32Bits systems and Flashtool64(.exe) for 64Bits systems
2: Press the Lightningbolt picture and select Flashmode
This will give another screen.
3: Select the downloaded ftf. (In this case 2.254)
Make sure that all the wipes are checked and the others are unchecked. This is to prevent any bootloops or other problems after downgrading.
4: Press Flash and the next two lines will be added to the flashtool log
The files are being prepared and checked. Have a bit of patience please.
5: Turn off your phone and turn it back on into Flashmode
After this the process will start.
After flashing you can disconnect your phone and boot it up.
Via Flashtool you can also reset your system after. For example:
You are running the latest ExistenZe ROM from our beloved Niaboc79 and you want to go back to stock for a reason WITHOUT losing data! Just flash the last Stock ROM and untick the following boxes:
Untick DATA and APPSLOG!! But keep CACHE to wipe the /cache (is the same as a wipe cache via CWM).
FAQ
- My Phone wont stay into flashmode
> Turn it off, wait a few minutes and turn it back into flashmode
- Flashtool wont recognise my phone
> Make sure you have the proper drivers installed. See C://Flashtool/Drivers

- Got a bootloop
> Reflash again
- Even after reflash I got into a bootloop
> Turn off your phone via the small button behind the batterycover and wait a few minutes. Then try again. If that doesnt work you need to flash again.
- Booting takes ages
> This is normal. The entire cache needs to be rebuild. Patience my dear..
- After flashing and booting my phone is laggy.
> Reboot device and wait a bit. The phone needs to fully reset and boot itself. Have some patience dear.
- Do I need to unlock my bootloader to use flashtool
> NO!
- Can I unlock my bootloader with flashtool?
> NO!
- Can I relock my bootloader with flashtool?

downgrade to root?
first, thanks! Very nice guide. I'm new to the experia world, my previous phone was a Desire S.
I have a question:
I have a problem with all stock roms with the mediaserver process. It is always running while I listen to music (which is a lot of time) and drains a lot of battery (up to 65%). Though I use poweramp player which is totally independent of the process (own library and decoder). On my Desire S on CM11 I don't have the issue this is why I want to move to a custom rom. I'm on 4.3 now (was hoping this would fix the issue) and want to root and full backup with keys for warranty purposes and then move to a custom rom.
Is it right that I have to downgrade first, since there is no root for 4.3 yet? If yes, what ROM? I have a C5303 and don't know what version I had previously. I bought it in Switzerland without SIMlock or any branding. Is there a way I can find out what my previous version was or can I basically just use any generic C5303 version?
Would you recommend 12.0.A.1.284 in order to be able to use DoomLords rootkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42701183#post42701183 ?
It's just that I don't know if I ever was on this version, also regarding warranty...
I know, many questions, but I just reached a point where I don't seem to get further without asking. Hope someone can clarify some of them.
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: And also I was wondering: In the picture says flashmode is reached by pressing the back button while connection, but there are softkeys. Is it not done with volume down?

According to the log you attached everything went fine. So I dont understand the problem.
Perhaps an idea to redownload it? Sometimes it wont work properly because the ftf file is somewhat damaged..
I have to relock the bootloader before restore?
Edit
No, it's not needed!
reflashig stock rom
Thanks for this nice guide. Im having a lot of issues with the 4.3 rom.
I flashed via SUS, editing build.prop to let the phone detect the new version, because my phone is carrier locked, and they didnt released the update yet.
I have a lot of lag, and I must force reset lots of times, so I want to make a clean install, because last time I only updated.
So my question is, if I do a factory reset, my build.prop is going to change to the original file (Orange's rom) or ill keep with my modified file? (Stock center Europe)
What do you recommend to me? If I reflash a stock European ftf via flashtool, I'll have the stock's build.prop, and I'll receive those Ota updates without problem?
Thanks for your work!
No if you have a TA backup you need to reflash your ROM and Restore TA partition

I don't have the backup, because my phone has the bootloader locked, and the only thing I have done is root and editing build.prop to be able to upgrade to European 4.3. Everything is working for me, track id and BE. (btw I have a backup of my build.prop in the computer)
I only want to do a fresh install of 4.3, not my carriers rom, because is on 4.1.2
So can I reflash any Stock 4.3 rom? The rom has it's own build.prop?
Thanks for your help Mrjraider

Hi mrjraider,
Many thanks for the guide!
A quick question. I am now in 4.3, bootloader locked. If I downgrade to 4.1.2 (.254 for example) my bootloader is still locked, correct?
Thanks!
Yes
I want to go back to stock from AOSP ROM and I don't know what's the right .ftf file for 12.1.A.0.266 but I think I know the right file for 12.0.A.2.254 (German branded C5303) (I'm from Germany ). If I would flash the 12.0.A.2.254 .ftf file would the Update Center show me the 4.3 OTA update and everything would work like on stock before? And would I lose root even with Voodoo OTA RootKeeper and the option enabled to try keeping Superuser access in SuperSU?
You need to look in the thread I linked to. There you can find many FTF files.

Hi guys ! thanks for guide. I got successfull revert my phone from update 266 to 254.
hi sir, i'm on .254 rooted and just want to go back to stock because i want to update it to 4.3, is it the safest way? if so, what will happen to my apps like greenify, Titanium backup, and those apps that was already transferred to sd card? should i have to uninstall these aps? does it have remaining unwiped data to be cleaned if flashing the stock rom?
thank you..
Over the past couple of days, I have been experiencing various issues with flashtool. Using the internets help and many hours of my time I managed to fix most of these problems that occurred for me. Although there are hundreds of Flashtool step by step instructions, I thought it would be best for an updated and more in depth on what you should be aware of first before clicking "Flash".
Firstly, I do not take responsibility for any device broken or damaged since there is ALWAYS a minute chance of your device bricking.
Lets start, shall we?
Things Needed
Z5 Compact
Original Cable (or any cable actually that is working and can transfer files)
Flashtool 0.9.22.3
Sony Xperia Z5 Compact Stock Rom
Okay to start off.. Yes, this should work with other phones however I am not providing the stock roms for those, it takes a simple google search to find them ie. "Sony Xperia Z5 Stock Rom ftf"
You don't need the latest stock rom either since you can update once the phone is setup depending on if you have access to OTA updates (Over the Air).
Step 1.
Download flashtool if you haven't already. If you have an older version of flashtool, uninstall it and make sure all old files are gone for good and also be sure the new one is fully installed. I prefer to use the magnet link on the website (for torrents) since using uploaded.net takes forever.
Step 2a.
If you're on Windows 8/8.1/10 then please take note to this specific paragraph, any other OS skip to 2b Windows 8/8.1 like to have its security tight, so they block you from installing drivers with unsigned certificates to "keep your computer from harm" but just go ahead and follow the instructions to allow your computer install these drivers. If the drivers aren't installed correctly, then you won't be flashing anything today Okay, go to Settings>General and then click on 'Restart Now' under 'Advanced Startup'.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
This will restart your PC. It will then take you to a screen that gives you various options. On Windows 8 you will see 'Troubleshoot' and on Windows 8.1 you will see 'Start-up Settings'. Select either that appears. This will take you to another page that will ask to restart windows in order to use some advanced startup features, just click 'Restart'. If it already takes you to the page without restart, or if your computer just restarted and you're getting the options of what to select, make sure you select 'Disable driver signature enforcement'.
Your computer should now restart with driver signature enforcement disabled. Now, go ahead and carry on with the instructions in 2b!
Step 2b.
Navigate to the 'drivers' folder where you installed Flashtool. If you cant remember where you installed it, the default directory should be in "C:\Flashtool". Open 'Flashtool-drivers.exe' and install:
Flashmode Drivers
Fastboot Drivers
Z5 Compact Device Driver (Or whatever your device is)
Now we have successfully installed the drivers for flashtool and our device!
Step 3.
Find the stock rom you downloaded, copy and paste it into your firmwares folder in flashtool. For me, this is in "C:\Users\Matty\.flashTool\firmwares". People have been saying to delete the folders inside the firmwares folder, do not do this as the flash might not work.
Step 4.
Note
If you're running 64bit, I recommend you to not use Flashtool64.exe at first, just use the standard 'Flashtool.exe'. If you dont get an icon on your desktop from the setup, just navigate to the folder in the directory you installed it in, then right click and click send to desktop so you can access it easy
Step 5.
Open Flashtool from your newly created shortcut on your desktop. Click the Flash icon, then click Flashmode, then hit Ok. Click your Firmware on the left to start off with. You might have to hit the firmware dropdown until it gets to the actual firmware like so:
If you want to remove all your data, where it says Wipe, hit all the boxes. (APPS_LOG, DIAG, SSD, USERDATA). Then click Flash. You will now see "Preparing files for flashing" on your screen. Be very patient, and in the meantime, turn your phone off ready to enter Flashmode. Make sure your phone is switched off and NOT plugged.
When you see this box come up on your computer, It's probably time to connect the USB to your computer, and enter flashmode on your phone.
Plug the USB into your computer
(TRY USB 2.0 FIRST, SOME REASON NO USB 3.0 PORT WORKED FOR ME+MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAD PROBLEMS WITH USB 3.0 I.E loader.sin errors)
Entering Flash Mode
Hold the Volume Down button and plug the USB cable from your computer into your phone. You should hear the Windows noise it makes to say the device is connected to the PC. If any extra drivers are needed to complete the flash it could take longer for the flash to start. You should then see a constant green light in the top right of your device, gently put it somewhere without unplugging the charger and let Flashtool do the hard work
Step 6.
Leave the device for no longer than 30 minutes. However, if you're unsure be safe and leave it for a full hour, go out have a nice brew, do a tap and dance and come back and it should be done. The only reason it would get stuck is because you unplugged the phone during the Flash, or if the cable somewhat died throughout the operation. If so, repeat the instructions in hope your device will be as good as new
Flashtool will now let you know when it is done. It will say "Flashing finished, please uplug and start your phone."
If it says that, hooray! You have successfully flashed your phone with stock rom!
If not and you get an error before it even wants to flash, or throughout the process you get an error, post it below and I'll take a look. I'm not very good but I know quite a few errors.
END OF TUTORIAL
I just thought I'd help the community out in a way that I can, since I'm bad at like everything else lol.
Peace folks :highfive: :cyclops:
Great write-up! I know it probably would have helped me months ago for something like this to exist. For anyone coming here for info, it also took me three PC's before I found one that played well with flash tool. Also if you ever get a failure, reboot PC, phone, and try again. Persistence pays off.

The firmware folder is not detected by Flashtool although I have put it in the correct folder...
I have tried hundred of times, i just dont understand
you dont need unlock bootloader for stock kernel\rom right?
If you want to upgrade you better use Xperia companion.
If you want to downgrade and use FlashTool and if you have a problem you better have unlocked bootloader.
Guys,
This is a good tutorial. but I met a dead end, i got " processing partition.sin finished with errors" message, any suggestion?
Thanks for the help, this is my first time flashing

hi, can i do this on Z5C Docomo (SO-02H)?
also can i flash global rom on that...?
Hey guys.
I have a Z5 Compact (E5823) that's stuck on android version 5.1.1. It never shows any available updates in the Software Update screen. I'd like to get it on 6.0 in the least just for the better permissions system it contains.
In searching for a way to update it, naturally I found this page and all the helpful info it contains. I've never been steered wrong by XDA in the past. I've always found information on this site helpful, and it works.
I've downloaded Flashtool.
I've followed all of the instruction for installation, including the annoying driver installation process for Windows 8.1.
I've downloaded multiple firmwares from Xperifirm.
I can get everything happening, and it looks to work when looking at the Flashtool screen. It says it's complete (just like the little image at the bottom of the initial post).
Nothing seems to have happened to the phone. I boot it back up and it's still running the same old 5.1.1. Flashtool runs through it's process very fast, as in a few seconds, not the half an hour suggested.
The phone came from Hong Kong as far as I can tell. It may have been a refubished phone, I can't be sure. I'm trying to get the Customised AU version 6.0 software on it.
What am I doing wrong? I don't know what else to try, and it's annoying me. PLEASE HELP.
Thanks. Paul.

You better ask your question in the Z5 section, you're more likely to have answers and it's the same process (sorry I don't remember guq I did at the time I had the phone).

Any idea where I can find a good copy of version 9.18.5?
Hey,
I'm experiencing an issue with Flashtool.
Last weekend I successfully rooted my Z5C with the "How to root Z5C - the new, less painful way"-guide.
Finally the Z5C was flashed with Nougat (Customized DE) and rooted with Magisk (rooted with SuperSU first, but then switched to Magisk), even with working TA partition.
After reading that the Australian Stock ROM doesn't have battery drain issues, I tried flashing that one. Unluckily I'm always getting the following error:
17/059/2019 18:59:25 - ERROR - Processing of system.sin finished with errors.
17/059/2019 18:59:25 - INFO - Ending flash session
17/059/2019 18:59:25 - ERROR - ERR_SEVERITY="MINOR";ERR_CODE="0017";ERR_DYNAMIC="80090012";
Now I can't boot my phone and TWRP seems to be gone too, so I can't restore the backup I did beforehand.
Any idea how to fix this error?
EDIT:
If anyone wonders: I managed to make it work by downloading the firmware again and using a different USB-cable on a different USB-port. Can't say which of those things exactly helped.
