You need to make sure that your phone is unlock and S-off, if not installing another rom would not work and it could damage your phone.

[SOLVED!] HTC Magic no ROM works

Hi, I'm kinda new to this stuff, but I really want to upgrade my phone because I find that the stock ROM I got with the phone just isn't good enough.
I've been trying to load a new ROM for a couple of days now, but I just can't seem to finish the process.
My Phone:
HTC Magic
Android 1.5
running recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.6.2H.img
32A
Attempting to install CyanogenMod 5.0.8
Now, here are the steps I've performed:
1. Flashed recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.6.2H.img using flashrec.apk
2. Booted phone in recovery mode
3. Did nandroid backup
4. wiped data, wiped cache, wiped dalvik-cache
5. loaded ROM from sdcard update-cm-5.0.8-DS-signed.zip
When that finished installing on my phone successfully, I rebooted my phone, and then my phone just gets stuck on the "htc magic" logo.
I've performed suggested actions, such as wiping again and then loading the ROM again, tried loading different ROMs, but always get the same problem. I even tried using the clockwork recovery image instead of the sapphire v1.6.2.
What could possibly be the cause? How can I fix it? Am I just a massive noob and using the wrong ROMs?
It's getting really annoying now, I'm almost ready to give up and just factory reset back to stock rom *sigh*
Cyanogen Mod is for 32B devices. Go to the download page, you'll find the kernel for 32A in a zip. I believe all you need to do is flash it from recovery and it should boot
If that doesn't work, repeat your steps then flash (wipe, flash CM, flash kernel).

did you try reading the cyano-wiki? or the original post in the cm thread?
really, if you didnt, take some time and read that stuff, even if some of it makes no sense, just read through it, then take a 5 minute break, and look through it again, all the info you need is there
if you did, read it again, cause i needed to read through it several times to get it, the instructions often assume we know stuff we dont know
otherwise, i would start over fresh, i mean from ground up, may be quicker than 1) trying to figure out whats wrong, and 2)trying to figure out how to fix whats wrong

Actually, thanks for this tip. I flashed the kernel for 32A and after I did that the ROM worked!

What steps did u tk? are d steps u took inline with the dev's instructions? ...
Summary, u shouldn't be asking here...u'll get much better and faster response in the specific build's thread...here.

You're basically getting that because you never reflashed your ROM back after you re-flashed MALGDR.
Can you still go in to MAGLDR Menu? If so, try judy flash the ROM again. That'll probably work.
If not, do a Task29, reflash MAGLDR and then reflash the ROM.

1. Did you do a full (factory) wipe before installing this new ROM?
2. If not, go into recovery, do a full wipe and re-flash the ROM. In fact, do this anyway after checking the MD5HASH.
3. Did you check the MD5HASH of the downloaded file before flashing it? If not, check it and if wrong download again.
4. Did you make a backup of the old ROM using ROM Manager or recovery? - If so, have you tried restoring it (not necessary of above fixes it)?
I ticked the dalvik cache and wipe on Rom manager in the window that pops up right after ur installing a new Rom
How do I go into recovery its thrrough that power + volume up button right that's not working for me
As for knowing the md5 I don't know what nd how to do it
Yup I did make a backup using Rom manager and now when u try to restore or do anything through Rom manager it says phone not rooted nd the privelleged command error
if visionary didn't work, then maybe u need to downgrade first... ???

well, should be 'Section 2b', Gingerbread... correct???
If you have CWM Recovery installed (I guess you have) you don't need rom manager.
Just boot into the bootloader with vol - and power, then select recovery.

Had the same problem earlier today.

help me with my Desire HD

hi guys .. i have HTC Desire HD it was working very well on version 2.3.3 then i decide to downgrade it to 2.2 so i can get root + recovery by following this guide :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152233&highlight=downgrade
i followed the instruction EXACTLY as it was posted after i get to bootloader and i made the update the phone restart and died for almost 5 mints then it switched on HTC logo and keeps vibrating for 2 mints then it works normally .
each time i switch it off it needs 5 mints to turn on after that it keep vibrating as i have said even i cant go to bootloader mode (by pressing volume down + power ) but only with terminal command or by using Ultimate Multi Tool .
by the way :- my phone is 2.2 + S-Off + recovery .
Install rom manager and flash recovery again. Then try and flash a new rom.

I think the problem is that you are using stupid fonts on the forum haha
Erm, try and use a full wipe script, look in the Android Revolution thread.
Probably a corrupt bootloader, maybe try flashing it again?

no need to use those words man ,,, i tried full wipe by using this FULL_WIPE_1.5_EXT4_.zip
wipe it, Reflash and maybe re-root!
re
Just the bootloader...
I had a similar problem when I tried to root and flash ROM's on to mine.
In the end I started the whole process again. I went right back to the beginning as if my phone wasn't rooted. It seemed to work, I don't know but maybe first time round I made a stupid mistake and was a little more careful on my second run.
Anyway, I would suggest re-rooting your phone, then flashing a ROM again. I know it's long but sometimes it's the only way!
Good luck!
To op.
I would recomend using ROM Manager from market, and from there, flash Clockwork Recovery (CWM).
I don't know what recovery or what rom you have tried, but i could point you in the direction of a CM7 rom (Cyanogenmod) or something like this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840040 . That might do the trick..

[Q] No new ROM for me. Why?

So I have everything done that needs to be done, and when I try to install any of the ROMs available for the D801, it either get "install failed" message or it tells me the install was successful and I get a black screen after the T-Mo splash screen. I can restore backups but flashing doesnt work. Any ideas?

First of all, start with writing down for us what u actually did.
No one has a clue what u mean by "done everything that needs to be done".
What Recovery
What Rooting Method
What did u try to install...etc
Ah, sure. Sorry about that guys. Everything that needs to be done is rooted phone with IORoot, installed newest version of TWRP recovery, made nandroid backup. Tried installing CM 10.2, Buckeye, and Heatshiver 2.4 and 2.5. Again, sorry guys, I know this is kind of a specific hobby, I'll give more details.
I know when flashing roms I have to (using twrp) Do an advanced wipe.. wipe data system everything but internal storage then flash rom if I don't I get the lg power on screen then just a black screen with the led flashing at the top of the screen.. I'm on an at&t g2
