Dear Forum Users,
I'm a newbie to the Linux world, although I've been always keenly interested to get to know more about linux and open softwares.
I have a 500GB Hitachi HD that is not recognized by any OS I have, my last hope is Linux, I made 3 Live CD with versions of Backtrack 5, Ubuntu and Big Linux.
When I insert the HD and use GParted in all distributions it finds no hard drive connected.
If I go into the hardware settings I see my HD but it appears as if the capacity was 0 Kb but it has 500 Gb.
I'm trying trought gparted (doesn't list the drive) and fdisk (doesn't list the drive), in Windows I had tried replace the MBR info (error), EASEUS Partition Manager is the unique program that can list the drive, but show the error I/O.
When I plug in Sagemcom Device and format, then i put it back in my desktop just show me the samething.
If I flash a new firmware I can restore this HD? And if I make a ZeroFill?
Please help me out.
Sincerely,
Barros
MAN!!!

Try using easeus data recovery wizard or just format it if your files weren't important.
EaseUS may require more space than the actual size of your files, so prepare a big hdd.
You can always recover it at any time by using the app.

Wow... I just noticed the first sentence your wrote down: OPEN SOURCE
Well here's a list of few great open source games:
-Xonotic, FPS game with today's graphics standards.
-Speed Dreams, graphics weren't good but you will have good experience playing this.
-VDrift, racing game with drifting physics.
You may try to Google 'best open source pc games'.

Can I put that program on a usb stick or a sd card and boot it from the BIOS menu to repair it?

No, you have to install easybcd on your working os (w7) than use it creating new boot option for w8

Lol that was my problem all along I didn't have a repair disk, but it seems that easybcd saved me, I seached on google "can I boot easybcd?" And what would you know one of the top results was repairing the bootloader, and they had a store where you could buy the repair disks for $10, so its all good now. Oh and I put easybcd on the computer and backed up my bootloader this time. But I'm not gonna put windows 8 on it, I put it on my laptop and it sucks, its not slow or anything, it just seems to tablety.
Anyway, thanks!

Good job, didnt know easybcd was bootable, we never end to learn.
W8 is future, better if we get used to it now

I'm not gonna have anything forced upon me, if I don't like windows 8, ill keep windows 7, if I get a new computer and it has 8 I will theme it without the app style view. Or buy a windows 7 disk.

On the latest clockworkmod recovery (6.0.4.3), under the "mounts and storage" option the are 2 new partition that can be formatted, /persist and /firmware. The problem is: I've just formatted those two partitions and now I don't have radio anymore and the boot time is significantly longer.
i also want to know the answer to that. i formatted those partitons too and i think it broke something about bluetooth. i need to re-pair bluetooth headsets every time i want to use them.
same goes for me. trying to going back to factory of 4.3

Hi all,
I've wasted 4 hours because of these two options... What is the sense of adding these features that cause endless bootloops?

I followed the steps on the forum to swap my internal memory with my SD card to increase space for apps. It worked great everything seemed to be working perfect at first. I had to do some house cleaning with broken links to ringtones and pictures but I somewhat expected that. The other day I was reading there was an update for Chrome Beta so when I got home I started the update. After it downloads and tries to install I get an error message that says Insufficient storage available. I have about 16gb free on my "new" internal memory. I deleted a large 2gb app and data but it still gives me the same error. I did do some looking but didn't find anything use full. Any help will be appreciated.
EDIT: It is not just Chrome Beta every app I try and update says the same thing. I also tried downloading random apps but i just finally ran in to the error after a very large app tried to install.

When I have corrupted my ext sd, you can read but not write. I found that mounting the card to a pc or mac with one of those usb/micro shuttles. Then copy everything to a enpty folder, format the sd ON YOUR PHONE. Then put all back to the empty card/shuttle.
Use this from now on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2566065
OK?

SS is safestrap recovery. Yours right? I never tested how well it works in your case. At least not v5 I did test prev versions. Follow the busybox step , reboot & flash from stock slot.

sorry I apparently don't know how to flash the v5? I don't see anything in the busybox or safestrap. I downloaded the files at the bottom of the post but don't see where they are used either.

Thanks thought I had it figured out last night using TWRP but I'll go through that post and figure it out.
I think I did it now. I had to go back and revert all my original attempts at it to get it to work. I can see the internal as the external and the SD card is mounted as internal. Haven't tried to add a bunch of apps yet to see if it gives me the same message as before. I did get all my ringtones back I lost after swamping the memory using the wrong way for my version of android.
Be sure to get twrp 2632.
Just switched form iOS to pixel 4, and the only thing that's bugging me are the annoying ads. Found a few guides about rooting but only for windows devices.
Hey man, if you just want to get rid of ads, install block this (type it in Google), it'll save you a lot of trouble
---------- Post added at 01:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:01 PM ----------
Otherwise, rooting is the same on mac or windows you just use fastboot command lines, no difference except put ./ at the begining of your commands in mac os terminal
