Why would they put the charging port on the side?

Really makes it a ***** to use while plugged in. Also, since I'm complaining. How about less programmable keys and instead give us a space bar that's a decent size....
Still the best phone I've ever owned, but do the powers that be really incorporate design choices on purpose to give us something to aspire for?

Not that this is a reason...but Blackberries have the charge-port on the side -- a lot of them do anyway.
When you're using a phone like the G2 (or my TP2) in landscape I think it's better on the side. That way it hangs straight down between my hands, rather than where my right hand is (as it is on my TP2). But...yeah, not good in portrait mode.

I personally think it's much, much better on the side. I usually hold the phone with my right hand so it doesn't get in the way when I'm using it in portrait, and having it on the side is a godsend when using it in landscape.

I assume most people use their phone 90% of the time in portrait mode. But yes, in landscape it's fine. I spent the summer on an iPhone after using a rooted G1 for 18 months (cyanogen of course).
The only things I miss from jailbroken iPhone are 1) Bottom plug, 2) virtual keyboard (Swype/Stock/Swift still don't come close FOR ME), 3) Home Button/Track Pad press to wake up screen, 5) SBSettings and 4) WORDS WITH FRIENDS!!!!!
Otherwise it's like a breath of fresh air being back on Android. I'm confident that 4 of those 5 things will be fixed if root ever gets implemented.

On my nexus and touch slide the port was on the bottom. I liked it for when I charged my phone while driving. If it had to be on a side, I would prefer the other side. Love this phone though.

I'll use it 90% of the time without the cord plugged in at all.
I charge overnight and am not a heavy user.

Good point. I know once this phones novelty wears off I won't have it plugged in so much lol.

Im glad they put it on the side. If they put it on the bottom it would be hard to TYPE on the keyboard.
Much worse if you ask me.

Well if you spend more time typing on the physical keyboard than you do doing browsing, twitter, music, games, and making phone calls.. then yeah. Sure. I use the keyboard for long emails and message board posts. That's not the majority of my day realistically though.

Fair enough. Different preference for different users. I text more than I do any other function on my phone. Honestly though? I like how they did it on the Moto Droid. On the side but up closer to the top.

It's on the side so that it will work in a car dock, which I'd love to see one of.
For me, the ***** is microUSB. That tiny tab in there is going to break, and then I'm boned. MiniUSB would have fit, and it's so much stronger!

My N900 had it on the top and it was impossible to use when plugged in.. I for one am glad its on the side.

Check out Wordfeud. I just discovered it this past week but me and a few of my other Android friends have been having a blast with it. You can also play against random people.

usb port on the side isn't that bad unless your trying to type. then its a pain. still don't like micro usb always plug in the wrong side also feels kind of flimsy.

Yeah I'm using Wordfeud now for my WWF fix. It's like a poor mans version. Drab black color and the "V" is only worth 4 points lol.
Also, yeah, I'm not saying to put the plug at the top, but raise it to the top of the side or put it where the *gasp* iphone put their plug. Bottom center.

Yeah, because the majority of users use a desk/car dock instead of holding their phone.

I'd have greatly preferred it on the other side (the one with the camera button); this would allow it to be used on a dock (who uses the keyboard when it's docked?! flip the screen!), while at the same time allowing you to prop it up on a desk and have it charge while still being able to quickly pick it up to type a response to a text or tweet. As it is now, to charge on a desk it HAS to be either face up or face-down.. and I shudder to think about trying to use a dock and quickly reply to anything. But I can understand why they didn't... look under the screen with it lifted up half-open, the z-hinge takes up a lot of space.
Even having it on the bottom would have been an improvement. And seconded on the micro-USB port... all my other gear uses mini-USB. Now I have to go buy another micro-USB cable to charge at work versus home, or be hassled in carrying the cable back and forth.
Battery life seems to be a hell of a lot better than the G1 at least. Which is now my 'backup phone' at work, in case I forget the damned charging cable for the G2.

speaking of blackberry...i really wish the g2 has the metal magnet charging ports like the blackberry. those metal contacts on the bottom of the blackberry have made charging the phone sooo much easier. i miss that feature... i know the n1 has that but the dock cost like $50 but hey if the g2 had that i would be all over it especially if ur tryin to charge ur fone wen ur drunk it is really hard.

Nexus One - Coolest Androind Phone, One Year Old

Why does this phone have to be so cool? So many features most android phones nowadays don't have. Multi-color trackball, LED notification, sexy design... Gosh why does it have to be one year old I have a samsung vibrant, and while people say it is better, I disagree completely. I am hoping to pick a Nexus One up on craigslist for 180 (good deal?). Don't care what people think, this phone is rad.
HTC, Please make the Nexus 3, and please make it like the original Nexus. Beleive it or not, some people do want a multi-color trackball and LED notification. I would get the Samsung Nexus S, too bad it is too plasticy and is missing key features from the first Nexus.

I used to love watching the nexus videos on utube .... the nexus S came with nothing much.... no trackball and cheap plastic ...

It's annoying HTC doesn't put the trackball on any other phones now. I know a lot people don't want it, but I would love to have it Imagine the Sensation with the Trackball

I love my Nexus One so much I have no idea what my next phone would be. What I'd really like is for my next phone to be identical to my current N1 but with updated specs. It's now 1 1/2 years old now and still going strong.

I like the Nexus One is a very solid device here are things I hate:
1. Outdoor visibility screen just doesn't cut it on a sunny day.
2. Screen sometimes just doesn't work (nothing too serious but annoying)
3. Battery just gives up in 8hr (Like most phones )
4. Camera is nothing to die for, my 2008 Nokia takes better pics (personal preference I take alot of Pictures)
5. Internal storage sucks especially if you don't root or use alot of apps
6. Speaker isn't the best either.
I think for 200 buck is a super good device but you can find a G2x for 350 or less might be a worth it of a big rooter.

I mean do you ACTUALLY hate those things? Or is it just because the phone is dated and there is a newer (better?) standard?
Also, at this point, I'm not even hoping for a trackball-- I'd settle for an optical trackpad (if they'd even give us that; notice how newer phones *cough sensation* don't even have that?)!!
Although, a prominent and customizable multicolored LED is still an absolute must, whether it be around the trackball (g2) or separate from (i don't like that little tiny green hidden dot hidden in the speaker grill of the sensation- it's not noticeable enough.)

Those are my main issues but I really really hate the memory space,battery and screen visibility especially on a sunny day.

Don't forget the Antenna. It sucks also. In my office I get the worst reception out of everyone. Overall I like the N1 alot and plan on getting the N3 when it comes out.

I get the best reception in my office, which I like to remind the fruit phone users about... xD
Reception is based on so many things through, that it's hard to pin point the real problem...

Well HTCs antenna technology sucks compare to Nokia and other companies. Having a HD2 with horrible antenna issues trying different radios/fimware/updates etc nothing help the poor HD2. the HTC wing way back in 2006 same issues and now the Nexus One has a decent antenna but my Nokia E73 gets solid 3g where my Nexus one fails miserably.

I love the trackball. At least the LED notification part. It's awesome to know if I have a text or a email just by glancing at my phone.
Too bad the Nexus 3 (Nexus 4G also) is going to have no front buttons at all, haptic or trackball.

Most likely the next Nexus. ICS will most likely get rid of all hardware buttons, like a honeycomb interface.

The texture of the Nexus One is the best. I dropped it plenty of times, forgot the phone in a washing machine once, had to replace the power source for it and didn't get the case to completely close. Yet, I'm still sticking around with it. Hopefully Google will do something right for Nexus 3 and get a similar phone out.

That's a Nexus S

I have had myN1 since the day it was released but it was replaced under warranty with a refurb a year later. I love the phone and haven't yet found one I would upgrade for but I do have the following issues:
1. The touch on the screen is still erratic making typing much harder than it should. I often have to power the phone off and on again to get it to register properly
2. My pictures, even on the replacement phone, still have a pinkish tinge to them. I am not sure why.
3. The power button is a bit flaky. Mine failed after the warranty had expired (of course) and so it cost me $55 to get it repaired.
I am hoping the N3 will be as good as the N1 but fix all those ills and be faster and more robust.

The amount of unofficial (and official for that matter I guess) support is what has made this phone amazing for 1.5 years for me. The screen sucks outside, and if I change between E and 3G anywhere in town while calling it is an auto dropped call, but there is not another phone that I've seen that's remotely tempted me. It has definitely been sturdy, dropped it so many times and only a slight nick on the top (no case or screen protector). And I still get questions from people when they notice its a N1, always with the follow up that they wish they had one.

I got the N1 when it first came out, rooted and installed CM right away. Been using CM since.
But lately, the phone is starting to show its age. I don't know if it's the phone or CM7 but it's been acting up more and more lately. I'm getting tired of it.
First is the multi-touch or lack thereof. I didn't care when I first got it but now, with more games available on Android, it's becoming a real problem.
Second is the random "crashing" where the screen would go black and the only way to see anything is hitting the menu button or go back and forth. Or just restart the phone to clear the problem. Really? is this windows or something???
Maybe it's CM7 maybe it's my phone but I can't wait to upgrade. Too bad there aren't anything good out there right now.
I really wish the Nokia N9 supports Android.

Is this a common problem with the N1? Because I've honestly never encountered this even once with 2 N1s.
I wish a new Nexus would keep the trackball, but they could update it to a virtual trackball like the Desire/Droid Incredible, but add a multicolor ring light around it. I think that would look pretty darn cool.

I'm having trouble sticking to android I love the features,apps etc but I been so paranoid of just buying a new android phone and a better one comes out a month after just sucks. I'm holding my money until I see the Nexus 3

I've received my Note 'cause my wife was tired of watching me using a Galaxy Tab PLUs 7.0 P-6200 as my primary phone LOOOOL !!!
I am very glad with it and I am really enjoying the dev section , which is quite more active than the SGT.
There's one thing , though, that I would change in my Note in a heartbeat :
- I hate the position of the volume rocker opposite to the power button. Most of the time I end up pressing both , when I either need to use the volume button or the power button.
- The speaker volume is quite low

I hate MHL and it's stupid adaptor. I want normal miniHDMI or HDMI output plus normal microusb like on Motorola Droid. I want to connect my TV and some usb devices to usb-host (like usb joystick, mouse, keyboard or a HDD\usb-flash with films) but I can't because of stupid ass MHL...

Yes I was hitting that volume button accidentally all the time when I first got it! However you do get used to it.
Yes the speaker volume is low, especially in noisy environments. If you download equalizer and increase the levels to maximum it's much better.
The speaker positioning is a curious design choice. Sometimes it gets muffled by my hand or when on an uneven surface. I used to pull on it accidentally when i was taking out the pen too. I would have preferred it elsewhere.
Why is the camera glass raised on the back? It may be gorilla glass but it's begging to be scratched!
I think the device would have been better with a little more RAM. When swapping between apps (especially the browser) I find I have to wait for it to reload pages.

GNote is my first android (I come from iPhone) and have two remarks:
- Power button on top: with the button on the right, every time you put the phone in a dock, you hit it
- Android Apps: this is more general, the OK button is never on the same side, should be standardized either left or right
For the rest I must say Android is more fun

As for the sound,open the Music Application > Settings > Equlizer > Custom and move the Levers all the way Up all of them,you will see the dfference both in the speakers and with the headset.

That's the only real big change I would implement if I could.
Also...perhaps the build materials could be changed to something more premium. Perhaps poly carbonate plastic or some metalic elements.

I have the note and its a bit strange to get used to.
I would change a few things like power button on top (essential), i keep pressing it !!!
Other thing i would use is a rubber kind back cover, i have the white one and i find it slippery.
More ram, better battery managment and a mini HDMI. Also very important (for me) would it have been so dificult to put up some covers for the micro usb (and/or the headphone) in plastic or rubber???
I know there are some cases that have them but........... i do see some problems with cases and usb port.

You've read my thoughts pretty much. The only things I'd add are NFC, and a hot-swappable micro-SDXC slot as I essentially want to use this to backup/upload photos taken with my camera.

Yes secondly power button to the top and volume rocker to the right side, I have been using my note for a few months now and though I am used to the phone I still do hit the power button by accidents and its really annoying plus I set my phone with a code so every time i gotta key in my code first, so change of buttons and more ram. Also better auto correct like seriously, I know other are alternative keyboards but basic things like good proper working auto correct must come on the phone by default.

And I'd love a camera button. And "out of the box" battery life and smoothness of SpeedMod-Kernel with flexibility of KingDroid and stability and update frequency of CyanogenMod

Oh i'm so glad that the power button ISN'T on the top of the device...i hated it so much with my htc sensation!
You have to hold the device tight in yours hands to reach the power button with your index finger one handed OR you have to use both hands...
With the power button positioned on the right it is much easier and much more biomechanical (ehm...lol). Please never ever change that, samsung

Same here, true HDMI port and power button on top. Also I'd love to see a Note with the same screen technology as the HTC One X, I hate to keep on babying my screen due to amoled burn-in problems. Other than that, all is great.

I dont mind power button position i like it as it is. Im turning screen on with home button and then when im finished tap the power button. Its ok.
I would love the same screen size in a smaller case.
Stereo speakers.
A little stronger battery.
32gb storage min.

Like many have mentioned before.
I would move the power button.
The amount of times I have held down the power button by mistake and had that menu pop, I believe i have also powered off my device accidently a number of times.
Other then that the only other thing I would change is the faulty emmc chip so I could stop worrying about the dreaded hardbrick.

Hi, this is a Note 2 user, and I have been using it for past 9 months, now I am interested in S4, the reason is 'SIZE' and size only. BUT I have been told that it has some serious build quality (screen breaking!) issues! And I have read that topic in General section too, which is very disappointing to say the least. I often use my phone in jeans pocket, that's why I am even more worried. Really, it can break that easy? I mean you put it in your pocket, drive for some time, and then when you take it out the screen is broke? What the !!!
I live in India, and I would also like to know that if the screen does break does it come under warranty in that case? Cause I won't be spending 120 bucks (or whatever the price is of a new display) every time it breaks.
If there is any other problem other than the above issue do also let me know.

About phone build quality, i got nothing bad to say, i also wear my phone in jeans almost all the time and i don't even have one scratch on it, so don't worry about that.
About those lag problems, i really didn't encounter neither one tiny lag, i have 32gb octa core version, so you don't have to worry about screen or anything else

my friend has also got a note 2, and i can say that the s4 is a lot better then the note 2.
putting it in your jeans no prob.
if you turn of some Samsung stuff, no lag
and you can always install cm so you have zero lag.

I have dropped mine with a spigen case on about 5times once on concrete and im 6ft 5 so quite a drop and no problems. As for in jeans I always keep it in my front pocket amd never had a problem I lie on the couch forget my s4 is in my pocket and roll around on it. Build quality is fine.

I have been using my s4 for a while now and haven't experience any problem concerning screen issues, It dropped a few times and the screen survived... but if you are so worried about the build issue there's always the option of extra protection such as a shock proof case. There is many out there, up for grabs. And trust me you will find the case saving your phones a lot of times from what could have been a total wreckage.
So get yourself a somewhat shock proof case and a screen protect (even though its not really needed, the extra protection is always good) and you will be good to go. You will phone will remain in tact for a prolong period.

Personally, I find that the build quality for the S4 is pretty okay (in the almost 2 wks that I've owned this phone). The SAMOLED cracking problem also worried me but what I surmise is that the problem is caused by 1 of 3 things: improper cases (or lack thereof) for the phone size, wearing restrictive clothing or extreme temperature fluctuation (from ice cold to hot). With enough applied pressure, I can see the phone twisting thereby allowing the SAMOLED to give and crack without breaking the gorilla glass. In order to counter that, I opted to get a rugged, more sturdy case (Otterbox Defender) than my usual TPU ones. It does provide a bit of comfort because this thing has a hard shell on the inside and I don't feel like the phone will try to conform to the shape of my leg when in my jeans pocket. As for the extreme temperatures, it never actually got very cold this winter, so I'm not to worried about coming into the house from out in the cold.

while i read that some people have even managed to break the screen by only holding it in their hands using it, my phone is still ok. i'm also having it in my jeans pocket. those who broke their phones almost never say which pocket they had the phone in. many people put it in the back pocket... i wouldn't do that with any phone.
except a few bugs in cm i dont have anything negative to say about the phone.

As a former Note 2 owner i like this phone better because of the better camera, crisp screen quality and descent batterylife (off course not better than the GN2). Also size wise it is better to handle than the Note2. I think overall the S4 it is a big improvement over the Note2. Just my 2 cents

I'm also in the same predicament. Currently using a Note 2 but it's size..is both a boon and a bane. Considering the s4 now hoping that 5" screen size would hit the sweet spot. Was using a s3 previously.

Yes but it only enlarges and gives you a preview of the page if you hover over it with your finger afaik.

So far the Air View is enabled in the stock browser but only allows you to magnify the content when you hover your fingers over a particular content. As for the additional options, I don't think that feature is enabled as yet. Hopefully it is in the near feature.

No, there's no difference with the colours.. There's only variants differences like I9500 and I9505... But you can get either black or white with either and have the same features with respect to their variant.

First Impression (very unprofessional review)

Gonna drop some thoughts, pics, about the GS6...This will be very unorganized since I will just be updating the post as I discover things! [emoji4] I have a white and black 64gb.
Firstly I am coming from a galaxy S5 and have had every galaxy since the very first one. All the pics will be taken with my S5 so blame it for the quality, he he. That said...
I never understood why there was such a big push/issue over metals and all this premium build crap, then I opened the box and held the S6. The feeling... It is like looking your best in casual clothes or a suit vs your gym clothes or active wear.
The backs: The white is a nice pearl and amazing at preventing fingerprints and light reflection, I purposely tried to smudge it but couldn't.
The black is a fingerprint magnet and reflects light like a mirror (the front is not bad at all since it's mostly screen) I tried avoiding but they will show.

Some little things: The charger is similar to the standard S5 etc. charger but, has a little lighting sign on it to signify fast charging. The usb cords though are about 12 inches shorter than that of the S5, seems to be about 4 feet long. The usb is thinner too, mainly cause the S5 one I'm used to had the 3.0 built in. The shorter usb sucks for those times you want to use it while charging.
The back is way more slippery, than the S5, will take some getting used too! I do not use cases.
Update: I was so against cases, but this phone is very, very slippery, esp. if your using it a bit and the back warms up, makes you fingers sweat/moist. I took it to the zoo the other day, clear skies, mild breeze, about 65 degrees out, so not humid at all. While taking pics I was very worried I would drop it if handling it with one hand (again slippery and thin). As soon as I got home ordered a Ringke clear case (which is amazing I might add), and now the user experience feels much better because I don't have that fear now of it slipping out my hand. My last 7-8 phones I was 100% against and never used a case, hope that is saying something about the slippery-ness of this phone.
First power on, battery dropped 5% just going through the setup screens. I know this is probably nothing.
Out of box storage 54.31gb, nothing setup or installed.
For those wondering the nano SIM comes in the box, I haven't inserted it yet.
Tried to show how much tilt the camera created, may be hard to see but the camera lens is way off the surface (a good thing to me!)
The camera area and the heart rate monitor has a film of plastic over them. The camera one has the lens cut out as usual, but the one over the heart rate monitor I would remove so it doesn't affect the sensor.
Fingerprint: This thing so much better than the swipe method. It allows for 4 fingers to be set up, I did each thumb twice. I set it up right away and only on one instance did it not work, and that was after letting someone try their finger first to show how it worked. Even with a damp hand after washing it worked, which always caused my swipe on the S5 to fail.
Home Screen: The wallpaper does this little floating thing when you tilt the phone any direction. Its very subtle but noticeable.
Update: The tmobile update put it to lollipop 5.02
Samsung: No more micro Sd slot.
Me: No problem! Usb OTG cable $2.99, usb micro sd reader $4.99, in goes my 64 micro sd card[emoji106] This is very small and pocketable for say a long trip or vacation were you may want extra storage space. Best part is now swapping cards is even faster, carry 2 or 3 micros in you pocket. #Microcenter
I now feel that the lack of sd card is a big non-issue in fact I feel happy about it because we gained from this loss...with the sd under the cover we would/should have to power off, remove cover, swap card, power on, wait for boot. Now, plug in OTG 5 secs later file explore automatically opens (sort of like Windows pc) full access, and it's mass storage not slow MTP. Pull notification down, unmount/eject pull cable out 5 sec. So it is much faster and plug-n-play! Bam! now im rocking ~114GB for less than 10 bucks of adapters.
S Voice: usually one of the first things I disable, but this new one is sweet. You can set it to always listening and it actually works great. You choose your own phrase, mine is "yo galaxy" then tell it what you want to do...Do this like your telling someone to do something without pausing in your natural speaking speed. i.e. you don't have to wait like Google now for the beep that its ready, which makes Svoice nicer. So for example with the screen of and fingerprint protected I say---"Yo galaxy set an alarm for 30 minutes from now" and she sets it and tells you the time it will go off. The screen doesn't turn on during this, just a little 3-4 mm speech bar bout the size of the edge notifications. Summary: Svoice may see more use from Google now from me!

If you like white you will LOVE this pearl white...I prefer black, makes the screen kind of disappear. The black is not jet black, and the blue tint is only really noticeable/visible with direct light at an angle.

I went with the white for the reason due to the finger prints and that it was truely black. I get black so the screen blends in with the color, but since its blueish it doesnt quite do what I want. The white has a pearl to it.

To the author: when you have the chance, please check how are the heads up notifications I'm interested mainly in the messaging and phone ones - can you answer a call/ replay to a message without having to quit your current application (like in Stock Lollipop) or is it like before?

My guess is that since both the S5 and Note 4 had those features in KitKat, they should be alive and well in the S6...

Did S5 and Note 4 had those features? Oh... well then it is almost guaranteed they will be present in the S6 as well. I had no idea that they were available in older versions of Android as well.

As mentioned it is there...lollipop 5.1 has an update to this feature where you can dismiss the heads up but it still shows up in the notification pulldown fit later interaction.

No you cannot, in fact several things are missing from that menu and other menus...unless there in other places a lot of useful stuff has been removed, i.e. I cannot find some of the air gestures like hover, preview, etc... I think Samsung didn't understood what people meant by the bloat I.e. the Samsung apps and auto on features, not take them away completely.

Ya, which is a shame I actually used some of them. They could have left them, but just off by default. Mainly air preview was good for fast forwarding/rewinding a video or song to the spot you wanted.
This is all we get now, hope the others can be downloaded from the galaxy app store like some of the extra camera modes were!

This probably won't be a very good test since I'm in Canada and you're in the Ohio, but I was wondering if you could test out the GPS performance on the S6? My G2 locks take quite some time to find it (even after changing servers), and loses it every now and then.

Personally for me it is no biggie the lack of air features. Even the ones still present in the phone will be turned off in my case
Two more questions:
1) Have you had the chance to hear the phone's audio quality from headphones? I read a lot of controversial information on the Internet - some say it is amazing, some say it is rather moderate. And if it is moderate it is a deal breaker for me - audio quality is an important aspect.
2) How are the themes in the Theme store? So far the ones I've seen (3 of them) are butt ugly. Is there an option to create your own theme (or that was a feature coming later this month)?

Did you see if it supports h.265 encode / decode like qualcomm 810?

Which color is the better looking of the two?

Post more thoughts! I have an S3 so I could really use an upgrade but the lack of waterproofing and SD card really bummed me out. That and it being $700 having a mini stroke over here trying to convince myself to pull the trigger.
