I'm sorry what do you mean by that?
Edit: And another problem: I can't access google from my data connection, my data reception is quite poor, what do you think the problem is?
Edit 1: Solved it, turn out the problem is the proxy value in my APN setting. I removed it and then I can download market apps again from data connection. Still, my data reception is still poor. Maybe I shoud get new sim card.

WiFi problem, dissconects all the time...

Hi!
Bought a Tattoo for my kid and now we got a huge bill because the wifi seems to dissconects itself all the time and she is not that good checking the wifi state.
Is this a known problem or what can i do about it?
Using a Netgear N router and WEP (must use WEP because of my stupid XBox that can't handle any other security).
Please let me know how to fix this so she can use the phone!
I have this problem too, and as I found it's a known problem on net.
I'm using wifi fixer, which running as a service and reconnect everytime the connection drops. It's not a solution, but make things better.

Hi!
Thanks for the info, is that an app i can find on the Android's app place?
he he he.... did not notice your link Sorry!
Looks to me that HTC is screwing things up even with Android devices...
This phone realy sucks!
Me again!
I've struggled with this phone a couple of hours now but i can't get the wifi to work now.
I press connect to my network, i have entered the wep password but a couple of secs later it says disconnected...
What can i do about this?
I have the same problem - Is it best to configure the Wi Fi settings like IP address etc ? And if so whats the best settings for it?
I've managed to get it to connect now, removed an app that kept track of wifi traffic. But it seems to me that Tattoo does not use wifi when i use YouTube for example. Checked my providers homepage for traffic that we pay for and they had traffic for today. And the phone has not been used all day until my test this evening.
Is there a way to tell the phone to use just the wifi connection when using youtube app or explorer...?

Thanks, this sounds easy enough for my kid to handle when she wants to use the wifi and to be sure that it uses the wifi and not the expensive data from our phone company.
Thanks again! Will try this!

mobile hotspot

is this a froyo only feature? or will we be able to do this once we receive eclair? is the hardware even capable of this? my apologies if this has been previously discussed.
It's possible now, just root your phone and install Barnacle WiFi Tether (free from market). Go into settings>interfaces set LAN to "athwlan0" (without quotes), and you're all set.
I've tried this app.
It works great with my x10.
In fact i sending this message from my notebook which internet connection powered by my x10 thru wifi tether by Barnacle
Thanks for info.
Thanks!

Just don't tell them...
Just watch how much data you use, and don't overdo it, and they shouldn't get suspicious.

Imo the provider does not have anything to do with what i do with my data plan, the deal is what it is, i have 1ggb high speed and above that my provider will lower the speed. I can use twice the data but it will be slow

i can't surf via barnacle. i've set the LAN settings to athwlan0 as stated by another post. and i can connect to the hotspot it creates. but i get no internet access on my computer. unable to browse anywhere.. do i need to set a DNS?
In semi related news if you're on Rogers the $30 6 gig data plan is back for a limited time. If you use network data like me it's well worth it

new chrome update

Quick question about the new chrome update that introduced reduced data usage by using google servers as a proxy and compressing images and so on:
The idea of this sounds great for those that are on a limited data plan. However, when im connected to a wifi network, i dont really want chrome to compress images. Is it possible to make it only do that when not connected to wifi?
I think you can turn off data compression in settings, bandwidth management, reduce data usage. Might be simple but just turn it off when on wifi

Do not think you have much choice, unless Google decides to allow the feature to detect whether you are using WiFi or data.
Try tasked or macdroid.

Wifi issues (Wifi Icon turns orange) - [related to Google Play Services?]

Hello everyone,
I'm currently on 4.4.3.
When I connect to a Wifi (in my home and other places), it's all working well..
Until after some time (could be minutes or hours), the Wifi icon turns orange and I can't access the internet.
The only way I can access the internet again is by turning off and on the Wifi (or on and off the airplane mode).. and then the whole story starts again.
I've been facing this issue for a long time now (I actually think it started when the 4.2.2 update arrived), and didn't find any solution for this yet.
The only clue I managed to find is that it's somehow related to the Google Play Services.
Here are some screenshot I made on the Google Play Services screen (by dialing *#*#426#*#*):
When the Wifi is working and has internet access [White icon]:

When the Wifi stops working and there's no internet access [Orange icon]:

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?
Thank you so much,
Tommy
anyone?
When your phone doesn't have access to Google's services the WiFi and network icons turn orange.
If you, for example, try to force an OTA you delete the Google Services Framework cache and data. You can immediately see that the icons turn orange because your phone doesn't have a connection anymore with the Google servers.
If your icons turn orange and it's bothering you(not able to use the Play Store, or any other reason) I suggest to remove and re-add your Google account in your device its settings.
If you need more information let me know!

Happens to me sometimes also. It's when your phone has a connection with your access point(router) but doesn't have internet(due a router timeout for instance).
It's very irritating but turning off my WiFi and turning it back on always works for me!

Did you flash the new 1.02 radio? When you're rooted you manually have flash the radio.

I flashed 4.4.3 using the flash-all.bat file. didn't it flash the 1.02 radio by using this file?
hmm dunno..
I've never tried that method. You can check the version in settings, about phone, smallband version (beneath 'android version') (translated from Dutch), the last three digits are the version of the radio (for ex. .84 .98 1.02).

As mentioned orange icons tell you there's no connection to the Google servers.
But your problem seems to be between your device/router as you can't access the internet at all. Does it happen on other WiFi or mobile data?

Is there any way to debug this?
Does some log (logcat?) can contain information regarding this issue when it occurs?
Unfortunately it still happens
anyone?
Turn your router off for about 5 minutes and turn it back on. This should fix it.

That's a temporary fix.. the issue keeps happening
I'm bumping this.
Happens to me on two nexus 5's and a nexus 4. Apparently it started happening after I replaced my router, but I still haven't found a setting in the router that fixes the issue. At least I can verify this is a router issue.

Mobile Data Only App

The other day I came across a new option in the connections settings menu called "Mobile Data Only Apps". And it says the apps you select will ALWAYS use Mobile Data, even when connected to WiFi.
This is something that has never existed in android before and is an absolute godsend because I have been trying to get something like this to work on my phone's over the years, with no good solution. My work WiFi restricts VOIP calls so apps features like WhatsApp and signal calls do not function while I am at work.
The only problem for me is that it does not seem to work as I am still unable to get these VOIP calls to function consistently when I am at work. I have enabled mobile data always on in developer mode, but the VoIP calls still don't work. Has anyone else had success with this.
Interesting, will try to set some apps to see how it works...

It actually now works consistently, however, it requires both wifi and data connections to be rock solid. When I'm on LTE and the Wifi is strong, I am able to receive WhatsApp and signal calls without issue (work WiFi restricts access to both VoIP calls). However when the connection drops from LTE, the dual connection doesn't work so well.
Good job Samsung.

Only if you can find a way to restrict certain services on your router. If you know the ports used by certain apps like VoIP, you could block those on your wifi router and then have the apps use mobile data only.
I am really excited about this since Android never allowed simultaneous network connectivity in the past. I don't know if this is a Samsung only feature but it's great.

LimeyBastard,
I just figured out a much better way of testing the feature without touching your router.
1. While connected to your home WiFi, Open up a browser app (I prefer Firefox focus since it's in incognito mode by default), go to one of those IP address checking sites like whatismyip.com and take note of the IP address.
2. After this go to settings and allow the browser app to access mobile data only.
3. Without disconnecting from the wifi network, close the browser app and reopen it and then check your IP address. It should be different from the initial IP you got under WiFi (it should show you the IP of your cell network provider.)
I checked my wife's Note 8 and this feature isn't present, so it appears it's an S10 only feature for now, but I could be wrong.

I have attached mine as well. Is your cellular data ISP different from your home internet provider? Also did you refresh the browser (I force stop it and then reopen before checking the IP). Also ensure the browser is one of the apps listed as using mobile data on the persistent notification.

Yes, my cell service T Mobile and my home wifi is charter comms.
Edit . So I just reinstalled firefox then before launching it I changed the setting for it to use mobile data only. And it seems to work. Weird.

No. Seems like most of the non-stock android OEMs have this feature, just not the stock android itself.
