I don't seem to be getting notifications from apps except a few like Gmail, cloud SMS & play store. I don't get from fb, fb chat, XDA etc. It seems like they don't really run in the background. It especially clear in games that they shut down as I leave them.
Don't have any of these problems on my Galaxy Nexus 4.2.2.

Are you enabling notifications within those particular apps? And do you leave games with the home or back button?
Many games will have to do some reloading if you switch away from them.

They all have notifications activated and I always use the home button. Sometimes I actually do get the notifications but it's like half an hour later then my gnex where it's instantly.

Is this when the screen is off? If so, do you have WiFi set to never sleep when screen is off?

Same here, my Nexus 7 almost NEVER gives me Notifications, and if it does its as you say like 30mins/1hour late, so by that time I've already seen what its notifying me of.
Very annoying !!
WiFi is one when screen is off.
Can't reproduce the problem on my gnex, it's just weird...

Is anyone else finding it weird using there phone after using the N7. I'm finding it hard to type on my Xperia Arc S? I wish there was some way to use my N7 like a phone while using WiFi, but with no Google Voice here in the UK I'm pretty much limited to only using my phone. I know I could use Skype. In fact I might have to see how much it costs to get enough Skype out credit to last a month and give it a try.

Yes I find texting difficult on my phone and the screen is to small compared to my N7.

Yep...I have little use for my GS3 other than texts, phone calls, or bathroom breaks at work. If it wouldn't look so weird I'd take the N7 to the restroom at work too!!

I only use my phone for texting, phone calls, apps that are not available on the N7 and internet when I'm out & in an emergency the WiFi hotspot feature. If Google Voice was available in the UK I'd hardly ever use my phone now.

I like that my phone battery last longer since I'm not using it for media consumption.

With your wifi only N7, how have you configured the "wifi on during sleep" setting?
Personally i chose never because i rely on my phone for notifications and my N7 stays at home at all times, so no need for wifi to be on all day.
I'm set to always, as I often leave things downloading while I do other things.
Sorry, can't see the poll via tapatalk

I'm also an always on'er. Battery life is good enough that I don't find any issues with it.

I set it to never. Phone for notifications etc. If the n7 is around just pick it up and use it.

I had tried the never rule so that it would switch off during sleep but it seemed to stay awake. But now i use automate it app to switch WiFi off when the screen goes off, with a 5 min delay, its also set to come back on when three screen is switched on again, works perfectly.

Curious, does GTalk consume a lot of RAM and does it have a great deal on battery? I want to leave it on so my daughter can IM me with her tablet when she's at her mom's. And great that it has video.. Haven't used gtalk in a long time. Thank you. I don't see it running in the battery history though... :/

I've used it on android for years and never felt like it had an adverse effect on battery life. Go for it.

What about ram? I know we have a lot on this phone but still want to know.. It runs in the background right?
Sent from my Nexus 4
Na, it doesn't take up much RAM. And yea, it does run in the background but it goes into Push mode after a while
No

Gtalk is very good on battery. Until you do a video call.

Ok, thanks guys.
Personally, I freeze Google Talk using titanium backup (you can disable it natively in apps on settings menu) because I don't use it. But since you have a usage for it, I don't think it uses a lot of ram. You have more than enough RAM so i wouldn't worry about it.
One thing definitely to do is to disable Google Latitude if you haven't already (it's in Maps and is on by default to report your location automatically). If they helped, press the thanks button
I dont use several Google services, and I freeze them without any problems.. Since sometimes they drain battery

I plan on using my n7 as my home phone, i will also attach a speaker to it so that it is loud enough to be heard throughout my home.
I have a question to anyone that uses their n7 heavily throughout the day, have u run into any issues by leaving your n7 powered on for more than 6-8 hours? like i said i plan on using it as my home phone, and it will be powered on for a long period of time and, it will mostly be on stand by. screen off with wifi on and talkatone in the background awaiting any important phone calls.
any positive inputs would be appreciated
I leave my n7 on all the time with the Wi-Fi and GPS radios always on and have hardly any issues.
If l realize that I have not rebooted it in several days, I'll reboot it - though I honestly don't remember ever needing to reboot it other than when messing with the recovery, or installing a kernel.
While it's setting there with the screen off with Wi-Fi and GPS on it seems to only use 1 to maybe 2 percent of the battery per hour.

That sounds fantastic. I'm going to go though with it and use it as a Home phone

I use my nexus 7 8gb WiFi for a home phone. It's a great tablet for it. Makes for a great time killer when your waiting for a phone call. Lol

My Nexus 4 does get hot (who's doesn't) and when it does, it likes to restart. This hasn't always been the case, only since the 4.3 update. It happens on Snapchat, Instagram, Google+, XDA and others. Any ideas why? Anybody else?

Hi,
Mine is getting hot, but never rebooted.
using instagram, google+, xda, facebook all this and all good.
The reboots occur to my device but the device doesn't get hot, probably related to the JSS15 deadlocks?
So why you don't came back on stable 4.2.2?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Mine does on snapchat
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Mine does this at random times (recording video, typing a text). Happens every 2-3 days since I upgraded. Going to wipe it and put 4.2.2 back again.
Mine is running great doesn't seem to hut down anymore. 4.2.2 always did while charging and Wi-Fi.. Not anymore
Sent from my Nexus 4
Mine only reboots on Skype video calling, but that has been confirmed on Skype forums to be a known bug with 4.3, also it doesn't seem related to heat.
