Hey, I 'd like to first say, great roms and support here on the forums! I absolutely love how open the community is with the HD2!!
I have a weird issue with the phone however. I am using the HD2 clean rom, wp 7.8, and Android ICS in dual boot (wp 7.8 NAND & ICS in SD).
Whenever I talk on the phone on windows phone 7.8, the screen turns off and I can't press any buttons. I have read the system has this symptom due to failing proximity sensors, but mine's i'm 1000% sure is not failing. on wmo 6,5 it works perfectly from what i see. On android it works perfectly too! I've tested it multiple times touching and untouching and it works perfectly. Just on WP7 it's glitchy, any feedback is very well appreciated! I dont want a bandaid fix, if possible i'd like a resolution to this problem.
Once again, thank you all!
this is normal... all WP7 screens goes blank (off) because is possibility to end call if you touch screen with your ear but when move phone from ear screen must go on again....

Ohh, I know it's a common thing, but mine's doesn't even turn back on. it shuts off as soon as i even make teh call (i don't even have to touch my ears to it).
I can even take a video recording of it if everyone would like. Maybe that would help.
no need... some people already reported this... WP7 not work same on HD2 for all users... someone have a lot problems others not...
Ahh..... So is it something random that happens? I'd like to know so I can hopefully find a remedy
Once again, ty for your help dxdy!
my Phone has the same .. black screen on a call and not coming out of black screen anymore????? are there fixes yet... this is a terrible "feature"...!!

Just wondering, how fast does the proximity sensor react? Does it turn on also when u move it away from ur ear?
In my HD, its pretty slow, and if i remember correctly i even had to install an aditional cab to make it turn back on.. I remember using an iphone and the second i took it away from my ear, before i had a chance to have the device in eye sight, the screen was on already..
how is this with the leo?
Your HD doesnt have a proximity sensor, it uses a light sensor? I think.
The HD2 one is PERFECT! put the to you ear, screens off instantly, take it away and the screen comes back on.
I would echo the fact that the sensor is perfect on the HD2. In fact, I think it's even a little better than 'instant'. For example, if I switch ears quickly, the screen doesn't turn on (exactly what I want), but if I take the phone away from my ear, by the time I've focused my eyes on the screen, it's on and ready for input. Works like a charm!
I'm not sure I'd say it's perfect. For instance, mine doesn't seem to work in the dark (i.e. in a dark room, outside at night, etc.) which is exactly the time I'd like it to work the most.
good to know that!
on the HD i have to wait a good 1-2 seconds for it to turn on, and its annoying what ur ready to go and input something, but u actually are waiting for the screen to turn on..
closer to the Leo..
My (old!) HD is slow too and I gave up trying to use the screen blanking because it also turned off and stopped me from entering key presses to access menu items in the call systems - even when away from my face.
My HD2 is faultless . Works exactly as designed as far as I can see and I have had many phones. If you are considering the HD2 then I would have no hesitation in recommending it.

im not evaluating, it was just out of curiosity, the only thing stopping me from getting the HD2 since day 1 is my current economical status .. im a phone lover also but its still good to know what its improved since the HD.
I've in my htc hd2 the Dutty FAM v6 HD2 rom, and I was trying an Android build (mjdejay Clean 2.2)...
It seems everything runs ok, but I've done a Phone Call, screen automatically got black (Off, like in WM 6.5), but when i finished the call, i cannot get screen on again... I've pressed all the buttons, but nothing appears to happen...
If i plug usb wire into HD2 it comes back, and if i do an incoming call, i can take it...
Nobody has got samething? Thnx!
UPDATE: I think that my HTC HD2 has its proximity sensor broken...
A number of members have the same issue. I do. But not always. No fix for the moment.
move the fone away from ur ear
also , get a better rom (even tho i have a mdj build myself)

Gee at least you didn't say buy an android phone. To say take it away from your ear is redundant. And to try a better build is just as bad. Why did you even waste your time replying?

this happened on my phone occasionally (though i haven't experienced it yet with mdj s4 kenel), anyways...
if the screen stayed black after moving the phone away from my ear, id cover the light sensor briefly with a thumb (or whatever!) BEFORE pressing the end call button, this always restored the screen. may work for you?
Hi. I have same problem. Now I have MDJ Froyo Sense 2.4. It is very frustrating all roms what i tested has this problem... Is any solution? I tried to disable automatic display brightnes but without success...
Just to make you feel you are in company I have this issue too. It is the single biggest pain in the ass about android and it isdriving me maaaad.
Still better than rocking WM though.
Same problem here, about 90% of the time. It's most annoying when you're on some automated service that asks you to press a number and you can't get your screen on to bring up the dialpad!
Rest assured though, pressing the end call button does indeed end the call. Just leave the phone alone for a minute or so afterwards and it appears to back to "normal".
Finally i have found a workaround
Hello, after many tests i have found good workaround. It is very simple. Download from Market: "Speaker Shake" (there is avaible a free version) and install it. Then set it like on my screenshot. (important setting is "Speaker Always ON"). Now when you start a call, this app automaticly turn on speaker - this event wake up your phone and then is end of your "black screen". After this you can again switch off speaker in time of call...
Sorry for my bad english. I hope that it will help to you..
I use MDJ FroYo Sense Clean v. 2.4 [kernel: MDJ S6.1]
Thanks. I will give Speaker Shake a try.
Just a little happier right now as others have this issue and that it is just not an issue with my phone.
I am sure it is just an incompatible driver somewhere. Never noticed it in prior builds but with new builds it happens. But not always. But I did notice if I am able to select speaker then turn speaker off the issue doesn't happen. But then the screen does not go black when I put it to my ear.
To me this is a much bigger issue than data freezes. Makes using my phone as a phone almost unbearable.
Hoping someone who knows how will look into this issue soon.
Tried Speaker Shake.
Calls are automatically with speaker on and screen stays awake. However after turning speaker off the screen goes black and won't turn on again.
Nice fix if using speaker ALWAYS but still doesn't help for normal calls.
I tried it many times and this issue "after turning speaker off the screen goes black and won't turn on again" i had only once.
I have changed this app and now it turns speaker back to normal. You can try it. For my is it now best solution how to avoid black screen....
And i forgot to say that you need to have switched off automatic brightness of display..
Has anyone tried covering the light sensors for a few secs?
Not the best solution but it always works for me, can live with that till it gets sorted.

It doesn't work for me...
Hello. I have a problem with unlocking the phone. When I lock the phone and try it again to unlock the screen lights up only in black. Sometimes it takes a second, sometimes longer. You have the same problem? Any fix?
Thanks petapen. I will try your modified application.
Still wondering what the issue is here. Newer kernal issue? I believe I am still running hastarin 8.3.
Edit: And for other poster.......covering light sensor or exposing it to bright light does nothing once it turns black.
If anyone have any another solution. Please let me know....
black screen

Screebl.....
If you haven't disabled auto brightness, do that. Secondly, some roms require a person to press the "call" key to wake the phone up.
Lastly, try a different rom, just remember to shut off auto brightness. I wish they came with that defaulted to off anyway.
Bumping this thread to keep it alive. Had a 50% chance of keeping the screen on, in froyostone v3.1. But it always came back after hitting end call key.
With MDJ FroYo HD v.4.3 the screen goes black everytime. Even after call the screen does not come back on. Only work around is to have someone call my phone and reject the call with the call end key. Then the screen turns back on.
After I make a call the screen goes black for few minutes and the phone does not responding at any keys.
I have WM 6.5 3.14.479.2 the official build and I try a lot of Android build but I have the same problem. When I start a call the screen goes black and no answer from any key minutes after the call is ended. After 3 to 10 minutes the keys working and the screen is on again ...
Where is the problem ? Proximity sensor ? No such problem on WM only on Android.
try holding it up to the light see if it comes back on, latest kernal dont have this problem i think!
I am not sure if everyone has this problem
I have also noticed the same problem. Even worst it is in Desire HD builds, screen stays off all the time and removing battery is necessary to restart the phone.
But it is only when the call was finished on my side by pressing HW button. Software button is of course not visible because screen is off.
The only workaround for me is wait till call is finished on the other side of the line, then the screen turns on again itself
I as just going to post exactly the same thing, especially on HD versions. Going off those at the moment,as I've now bent my battery contact pins.
I thought it was something I was doing wrong.
Going onto my 5th diff rom this week,, cant help but try them all as they are so good and different in their own ways.
Thanks
It is not posbile to disable proximity sensor so the screen remain on when I start a call ?
Agree with you the problem is more annoying with HD builds.
I keep having this problem with almost every build I try in my TMO HD2. When holding the phone, as soon as I make a call, the screen goes black. When I end the call using the hardware button, the keypad lights come on and the screen is non responsive until I plug in the charger. Solution?
I too have this problem but not that bad. After ending the call the screen stays black for 3-4 seconds, but it is still irritating.
Well mine stays black until I insert the charger which renders any of the builds with the issue completley unusable.
this is already known problem, especialy with DesireHD build it gets worst. there is no solution yet, as I understood, but several workarounds, for example discussed in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835127
I always say it but maybe trying a different build would work?

Do you have BsB Tweaks installed? If so, this problem is caused by having the "Tap Time" tweak set to "on". I was having this issue and read about the fix somewhere (might have been here). I set "Tap Time" to "off" and.... immediate and permanent (so far, about a week) fix.

EndCall - black screen freez
same problem here... please help me !
i had installed on my hd2 DL.Desire.v4.31.44.12 and it's worked fine for a wile but now i tryed the last version of dl desire and a gingerbread build but the problem didn't disapear. I reinstalled radio that is version 2.15.50.14 but .. nothing seams to work
I need your help guys !
Sorry for my bad english.
I was curious to see if in wmo it is the same problem, but no... in wmo works fine.
it's strange that at first fresh install of dl.desire everything was ok, but now it isn't. I've reinstalled magldr but with the same results.
It doesen't work.
I think it is something with the proximity sensor, because when i turn on the speaker and the screen is on i can end the call with no problem and no freeze.
the only solution i have for now to unfreeze the screen is to plug in the charger cable in the device.
Problem Solved
I just cleaned the proximity sensor and it's working great. No freeze no black screen.
I have the same problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1012396
If you have the original screen protector with the 2 holes from htc, try to clean the sensors with a soft microfiber.
I didn't had this problem untill i replaced my screen protector with the htc screen protector. (the 2 little holes are exposed to dust and dirt, and when you remove the phone from your ear the sensor doesn't respond because of dirt. I think in android the voltage for sensors is a little bit lower than wmo, and that makes the sensor less responsive)
Sorry for my english.
install from android market ADW launcher....make it default home screen...try this one too..
Solution
Everything difficult-is easier)
Just clean dust on the sreen, where sensor is situated.
Hey,
I'm having a problem with my proximity sensor. If I make a phone call, the screen turns automatically black, even if sensor isn't covered. And I can't turn the screen back on during call, only if the conversational partner hangs up, then it turns back on normally. If I try to hang up, the phone the display stays black for about 2min.
I'm having this problem only with WP7 & Android, works normally on WM6.5.
Hope somebody can help me.
Thanks in advantage.
You saying it works fine with winmo, it has to be a setting or bad flashing. You can try wiping your phone and starting over. I haven't played with WP7, but in some andriod roms there is an opition to use proximity sensor in the phone settings. Goto settings/ call settings. You might want to check and see. might be able to help you more if you were to tell what rom and how you installed.
This setting montecarlo5 mentions is available in cyanogenmod roms.
Are you sure there's no dirt covering your proximity sensor? Maybe Android is more sensitive than WM/WP.
I'm using RAFDROID HD 2.3 and like u allready said, the setting isn't available.
I'm having this issue on every NAND build i ever tested, but the sensor is 100% clean.
Please guys, don't open everytime a new thread before searching, if some one did the same -.- I made some tests to find out the reason of this issue and how to solve it (more or less).
Pls follow: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913134
