Good times - HTC Aria General

The day has finally come and I've upgraded and got a s2. This little aria was my first smart phone and man I've flashed and tested many brilliant roms over the years. This community was very nice and welcoming. See you duders and enjoy one of the sexiest phones ever. Thanks to all the old school peeps attn1 and such.

The dev community for the Aria was/is amazing. Much better support and attitude compared to current flagships.

Evo still king?

So I was browsing the forums yesterday eating leftover christmas food. I literally spent some time on diff development sections and noticed the EVO has an AMAZING community. I am an epic 4g owner and can't help but admire the amount of development, the bountys to get certain feautures and roms going.
There are also many other popular devices like the i9000, nexus one, g2. MY question is, what is the most popular phone with the most active DEVELOPMENT on XDA? Is it EVO? NEXUS? Who is the king of the hill?
Also, what phone is the successor in terms of development is it nexus s?g2?
the evo has a pretty deep community, in my opinion one of the best, i would also say that the motorola phones have good support and both nexus phones will continue to have very strong support. You can't go wrong with an evo in terms of the community and yes i have heard the epic has very scarce pickings

Go check out the CDMA hero. It still has an incredible amount of dev support for being a "legacy" device. I chose the Evo over the epic essentially for the community here. I had a couple of bad experiences over in the epic subforum and decided that was enough.
I own an EVO 4g, and I absolutely love it, I never turn off my phone, has long lasting batteries, and fosure runs great with the custom ROMs and kernels we have here from XDA.
If you get an EVO, make sure your absolutely setting time aside for your new EVO as it can be devastating not to correctly root your EVO the right way. Good luck.

Yea, I really want to be on a device that people actually care about not just having the best hardware

i can't speak for any other phones in regards to that, but i can tell you the evo has that, plus some trolls thrown in for good measure. you know you have arrived when you get trolls

king is a strong word, but I think its one of the more preferred android devices just because of the potential power it has with the hardware, also it has a very strong community backing both on xda and devs websites. Not to mention the sprint network was rated #2 with consumer reports even beating out Verizon in some aspects. I know when the time comes to choose a new phone I want to make sure cyanogen has roms for it because I love CM!!!
To answer your question, I'd say it's fairly tied up between the EVO and Nexus One... Maybe even the Droid coming in a close third place.
I had an Epic 4G, I was impatient and went out and bought one the day they came out....ANYWAY....I then took my Epic back because it was a lemon....I had the Hero before my Epic and I knew the community was awesome for HTC Devices and I remember using Flipz ROM's on my Hero and remembered he went to the Evo so I returned my Epic, much to the dismay and whining of the Radioshack employees. I then went to a Sprint store a week later and got luck they had an Evo. I havent looked back since!
Having been new to android, at the time of puchase of my Evo, I feel lucky to have chosen a device that has garnered such significant support n the development community. I got my Evo on day one solely on the fact that I knew this would be the best phone ever to touch the sprint network. With all the benifits of the Epic (hummingbird, amoled, & cam), having the likes of toast, cyanogen, caulkin, flip, myn, netchry, shinzul and all the other devs responsible for the awesome romz, kernals and themes make the Evo (and other similarly supported devices) king in the mobile world. I will base all my future mobile device purchases (phones & tablets) on whether they have similar support. I'd suggest everyone else do the same!

Despite the technological advances of other devices....there has yet to be a device that has 4G, HDMI, a 4.3in screen, a large dev community, front facing cam, 720p recording, kickstand and the great build quality that the Evo has....so in my opinion yes the evo is still king...android 2.3 means nothing when u have devs that can port it over in a matter of hours....

Really? With the Nexus S coming up, the Galaxy S devices should be getting more dev work.
And I wish I could go to a Galaxy S phone. lol. I don't like the Evo's GPU.
True can't change that however there is a great community and some pretty sweet software to run on her though

I got a hold of a Nexus One about a week and a half ago. After messing around with it on XDA, if we're talking about the depth and especially quality of community support, the Nexus One wins.
Phone-wise the EVO would be the best if device IMO if not for the GPU weakness. All the features in the world just doesn't make up for something that's now so crucial for a smart phone. The EVO just came out at a bad time -- right at the end of the first gen Snapdragon. That's my own view, you might disagree so leave it at that.
I've just rooted my phone and had it since launch day. The Evo was running stock for 5 months and was getting bored w/ it. I was extremely intimidated of rooting till I found unrevoked 3. Thanks to the xda community, I've become infatuated w/ this phone and I'm constantly flashing it
I Just got my Evo this Christams eve. I used to be pretty deep into the Hero communty and was loving their roms and kernals (much respect to deca and darch). After moving to the Evo its almost overwhelming to see the size of the dev community here, and this is just one site! And yeah I understand that the only real weakness is the GPU buy Ive always known that the first gen snapdragons can still hold their own even today.
To be honest the only things I have trouble with is deciding whether or not to use my rubber case that I got with it. I want to protect it but I love the build quality of this device.
The Evo 4g will run strong as one of the top three Android phones for a least another 6 months. Thats almost certain.
I just got my evo four days ago and I am in heaven. I actualy made the jump to android using the samsung moment. I hated the device but loved android. So then I went back to my tp2. I have always loved my htc devices I have had in the past so when I found out target had the evos for 99 dollars last week I put my moment up on craigslist for 100 and sold it that afternoon. Went straight to target. I think after 4 days I am ready to root now.

I'm an epic user former hero user. I will say the epic is a beautiful phone with awesome hardware. The specs are definitely above what the evo has to offer but I enjoy trying different roms, talking with the community and just doing thing to improve my phones and the epic doesn't have that. The epic community also isn't as nice and helpful as the HTC community is, not even close. So in saying that I am actually going to be trading my Epic with a friend that has an Evo. I'm sure I will miss somethings about the Epic but I won't miss Samsung jerking us on updates and the just plain nasty demeanor of the Epic community folks.
Only a matter of time before the Nexus S takes over in dev. support. =(

Another one bites the dust!

Haha, no - the phone itself is perfectly fine. But I've finally upgraded from the Nexus One, now using a Nexus S, and hopefully soon to an HTC Sensation (especially now with the news of an unlocked bootloader coming!)
I'm astonished, after one and a half years, the Nexus One development community is still going strong. I've helped friends with other devices on numerous occasions, and haven't quite seen such an active development community as there is with the N1 here at XDA.
It's been a fun ride for sure, and I've learned so much from the community at large. To each and every one of you, devs and regular uses alike, thank you all for the ongoing support and for making the Passion the greatest phone I've ever owned. She will definitely be missed!

[Q] I just upgraded to the Atrix 4G from a Captivate.

I had an upgrade so I upgraded to the Atrix 4G.
I had a Samsung Captivate before.
How does everyone like the Atrix?
I've read/watched reviews all over the internet but
I want to know what xda thinks of the Atrix 4G, as a communtiy.
Thanks everyone.
Atrix is great phone and now with bootloader unlock its even better.
Have a look around.
Search forums as 99% questions are already answered and its already got ics rom.
Enjoy your new puppy.
welcome to the atrix fam. this phone is a beast. i feel like with the proper tweaking our phone out performs all these newer phones. as stated search the forums for answers, becuz some of the people here are just lurking around waiting to flame you. lol. otherwise enjoy
Performance is great, functionality is excellent with blur ROMs. MIUI, or other CM7-based ROMs are getting there. Friend has a Sensation whom i play Parallel Kingdom with, I'm OC'ed to 1500MHz and he underclocks for battery, he has to plug into a charger looong before I do. Definitely the best balance of power, features, and efficiency out there at the moment.
The Motorola Atrix 4G is by far the most underrated phone that I have ever seen.
It is as powerful as the SGS2, has got many more options compared to other phones(Fingerprint Scanner and lapdock), it was the voted as the best phone of 2011 by CES. I don't know why it didn't sell like bread as it is an amazing phone.
I don't understand what people mean when they say that the SGS2's screen completely blows that of the Atrix out of water as my gf has an SGS2 and it is not true.
The only two disadvantages of owning the Atrix is that Motorola sucks at updates and there are not as many devs working on our Rome compared to other devices but our devs are really awesome.

awesome! thanks for the feedback! I'm really stoked for my phone to get here!
Should be here about Tues. or Wed. then the adventure will begin.
I have a little experience developing on the Captivate so I'm hoping the Atrix won't
be much more difficult.

if you need any help getting adjusted to dev-ing on the Atrix just pm me or twitter @ me
I just joined the community, so I am a noob, but I love my Atrix. I have had it for about 8 months now, and finally found the courage to root/unlock and go to the darkside. Talk about taking something sweet and turning it up to 11...

I used to have a Captivate before I had to get the Atrix. I took a swim in a pool with my Captivate in my pocket and after a week or so of letting it dry it still worked for around 6 months. Then one day it just shut off while I was using it and it wouldn't turn back on anymore so I picked up an Atrix from Best Buy for $50. I really do miss my Captivate at times. The screen was amazing compared to the Atrix screen. I also liked how thin and light the phone was. The audio quality was great too with some tweaks. I've thought about getting the SGS2 but I just can't pull the trigger. The Atrix records audio really well when capturing a video. At concerts there's barely any distortion from bass or anything. The Captivate wasn't that bad after tweaks but I've seen some videos with the SGS2 and the audio is just horrible. Other than that, the Atrix is a great phone.
i have upgraded from the cappy to the atrix also but still have both and constantly switching back and forth although id say the cappy screen was better i still love the processor speed and camera flash, plus dual cameras! i hope we get more devs workn on more roms though. all in all its a good phone a nd has louder speaker volume than my cappy.

I've registered just to say that the Atrix is an amazing phone and the CM team has made this phone even better than already is. I'd like to thank all the devs that have made this possible and are continuing to work on improving the phone's capabilities.
Atrix has supports similar to Captivate with added specification. Captivate has ICS (sweet if both will have) as advantage over Atrix.
I started reading this post and learned so many things immediately.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154600
I've been doing alot of reading and I'm pretty confident that dev-ing on the Atrix isn't gonna be too different from the Cappy so I'm pretty stoked for the future and glad to become a part of a great community.

So long and thanks for all the fish

It is with regret that I'm jumping board from my wonderful Desire HD and moving over to the One X.
Just before leaving I wanted to thank all the ROM chefs for tirelessly cooking up so much custom goodness. The DHD I have now barely resembles the phone I got nearly 18 months ago. It has gone through multiple iterations, extending its life and my interest in it.
I hope the One X will continue to see the same level of commitment from developers and xda regulars.
Thanks its been great and now the story continues elsewhere....
Good words man!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK WITH ONE X.....
Hope you will have good times with the HtC One X
If only One S had amoled plus.... pentile sucx socks

Goodbye

Hello DHD community,
WEll it has been emotional, from almost the word go on my handset I have been a member of XDA and only dwelled in this bright little corner of the forums.
But now I move on. After the expiration of my contract I decided I wanted a new phone, and so I have now sold my Desire HD (it is sat next to me going back to RUU 1.72). I will be moving into the SGS3 world now. Wish me luck.
I have loved this part of the XDA community everyone has been great. Special SHouts go to
Mike1986 Yours was my First ROM Thank you
Lee I loved Leedroid I was very sad when it was no logner developed but I am so glad you took your expertise elsewhere
and finally
LordClockan and everyone involved in the ICS port and build. It was a bumpy ride with many bugs and pitfalls, but thanks for all of your work.
I hope I answered some questions and I hope I gave back what I took from this community.
Thanks all, see you on the dark side.
Good luck and thank you

Enjoy the Galaxy S3.
im planning on moving to a new phone like you, S Galaxy 3.
Even tho ive been with sense rom for a very long time, ive decided to move to a different android device.
my contract ends next year Feburary...HAHAH...
if there is a newer phone coming out by then...ill probably get the newest phone.
Personally the Desire HD is an amazing phone & I don't see the need to upgrade (SetCPU helps if I need more power). The only drawback is Sense UI, which is a HUGE memory hog. Other than that, a brilliant little device which has an excellent comunity with members such as @wbbigdave
