Anybody used mobileparts-au on ebay? - Hardware Hacking General

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone's used this guy? I asked him a question about a Galaxy S screen, i.e. whether it's AMOLED or SAMOLED, also whether it's got the speaker grill and whether it's a genuine Samsung part, also where he is based and where the item's coming from, his reply:
Hi,
WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET! all as the item description.
Thank you!
Rich

Which is useless. Also, he's using a stock photo so he better not send that!
Thanks,
Luke.

Yes that is legit. But I am sorry I wont be buying it. I buy a lot of stuff on ebay and that is well overpriced. If you want it go for it. But hey I find that overpriced.
How low can I get it for and where?
Also, will I have to wait for english ROM?
Many thanks.

The one on ebay has Operation System : Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 for PocketPC Phone (World Wide English).... so that kinda solves your problem of the english ROM. And it solves another of your problems that you havent mentioned. That is the chinese characters on the keyboard. i am sure you wouldnt want that. But it is $1500USD...
............................................................
The one being sold here by WU15903 whatever his name is.... err he is selling for $1300USD right? But it has a chinese ROM for now not a big deal because you can overflash it. But there is one problem that the keyboard has chinese characters on it. So it is certainly a option i wouldnt choose. Almost the same price. I guess those are the only two ways to get it for you...
...................................................................................................
But if I were you.... I would go onto google. Select preferences and select chinese, japanese, taiwanese and korean languages only. then search for 'buy dopod U1000' and many shops and other places where you can buy it for cheaper. except its all in jebrish so you gotta guess your way through using logic. and maybe you can grab yourself a sweet deal for $1000USD. hmm?
.....................................................................................................
But if you are a lazy guy and dont want to take the trouble of searching. Just close your eyes and go for the ebay one. Although you will face maybe a $300-$500USD loss. But i guess when you get the phone you wont find any flaws in it and will be very happy regardless of the price. So just go for the ebay one... lemme know what you choose.

That's interesting wu. Never thought of how simply that could be done. I'm definitely up for a sturdier keyboard anyway and an extra number row would make life easier.

Anyways going back to the topic. what have you decided fpbiii? where will you buy the dopod u1000 from?
Still haven't decided.
Believe it or not, the dealbreaker will be if it can fit in my pants pocket and I can handle the discomfort.
Can someone please post a picture of this thing in your pocket or something to help me decide. Once I know, I will buy! I like the one on ebay, but paying 1500 is outrageous. I will wait until it comes down around 1100 or so. I would take either the silver or black one.

Ok if you want the black one order it from 972telecom.com. thats where i have also placed my pre-order. Its around $1000CDN on pre-order. Much cheaper than the dopod u1000 and much better. Let me know what you decide. You will have to pay $50-$100 on customs. I agree $1500USD is outrageous. And truly its uncomfortable in the pockets of your trousers. There is a high chance you might damage the screen or keyboard in your pocket. It is like a mini-book in the trouser! very discomforting. I am sure you dont need to see pictures for that

Let me know what you decide ^^ because i would highly recommend 972telecom.com a store in montreal. Very good store. I will be picking up my black athena from there in april.

so did they say even if the device comes out to be more expensive, they won't charge you more from the pre-order price? if that's the case, then great news. However, when you say it's much better then DOPOD U1000? what do you mean? they are the same? just the colour is different? is that your personal view point again?

Yes all the devices have similar spec's. I just prefer the black one because of the material it uses and I have never possessed a HTC Branded phone before. I dont know how much of your story about dopod is true but they are certainly a huge company like t-mobile. I also like the material HTC used for the body frame part. Anyways the pre-order price is fixed. I can pay it all off now or later. But the price is fixed and i will ask him to send me an invoice/quote to proove it hence.
*************************************************
Regardless, what i find amazing is that htcphonestore.com still retails Universal for $1100USD and Athena is only $1500USD.... i mean like does that mean that not much has changed from Universal -> Athena? Because I find that Universal is only worth maybe $500 - $600USD.

actually, the devices have exactly the same spec. btw have you hold an Advantage in your hand? did you go to the 3GSM? just want to know that.
Well, if the pre-order price is fix, then you can send a e-mail to expansys or mobile planet to tell them to remove their listing of Advantage, because they won't get any order if the price elsewhere is so much cheaper.
Also, this is just my PERSONAL though, the website you place pre-order on, it doesn't look very professional for me, any one think the same way?

man, i though you have been following the post before, i was one of the tester of Advantage, i actually hold one in front of me before. I don't need to call them, because there is nothing i can find out. Basically, the only difference between them are the colour, material is down to your personal taste, all i can say is DOPOD (probably Ameo as well) is smoother surface, where Advantage is rougher.
One thing i am sure is you will be flashing DOPOD or Ameo Rom in the future.
p.s. And also, i am not saying the store is fake, i am just saying their website doesn't look very professional.

well, if you have place your pre-order, then there is nothing i can say,
although i will suggest any other people who consider buying the Advantage to wait until it's actually in-stock.
If the price is like what nuclear said so much cheaper than the official price, than i am sure all other store will have it as well. Don't rush yourself into this. Better wait and see, maybe you can get a even better deal!
Not much different if you place your pre-order now, you will still get it around the same time.

Phone got ran over

Hello everyone, my phone got ran over last night. Its actually still working fine, touchscreen and all but there are cracks in the lower screen. You cant actually feel them but if you tilt the phone or whatever you can. Last night it was like bleeding pink colors but now the entire phone is covered in like a pink and blue haze. I can't see much of anything but the touch screen still works. I know the bottom screen needs to be replaced. Does anyone know how about much this would cost to be repaired? Should I go to a local repair shop? Also what needs to be fixed exactly so I don't get hustled?
Your LCDs are bleeding (causing the "haze"), your digitizer is fine if the touchscreen is working, you need a new screen.
Here is an example of what you need replaced:
http://www.repairsuniverse.com/google-nexus-one-lcd-screen-replacement-display-amoled.html
You can do it yourself, but I would only attempt it if you're really good with that kind of stuff. But if you do want to do it yourself, here are some cheaper screens from eBay. And this guy on youtube has a good set of videos on how to replace the screen (45 videos). But again, this is going to take time and skill.
It says in the videos that he's replacing his digitizer. Should I just follow the same steps? Do you think its that difficult to do it by one's self? I'm pretty tech-savvy but I don't have any experience in cell phone repair. But I am a college student and saving a large amount of money on labor costs would be awesome
Doesnt nexus have amoled screen not lcd. Who stupid is thinking that every device haves crappy lcd like iphone.

Uh, I dont know the specifics. You might need to replace the entire digitizer (maybe it's all one part, and you cant just replace the screen). For sending it into HTC, someone on android forums said that:
I cracked my LCD last month, sent it in to HTC, cost $115 total including overnight shipping which HTC covers, was only phoneless for 4 days.

Yes, it's an AMOLED screen, buy it is still referred to as an LCD screen.

I appreciate the help. I just contacted a local repair shop and they said it would be $124. So I'm figuring it's worth it to pay the thirty dollars for the labor rather than screwing it up. Thanks though for pointing me in the right way
Yea, thats good. Personally, I wouldn't try to mess with all that internal stuff, too complicated for me and too many places I could screw up lol. No problem.

Hi stacey.
Does it come with the Samsung package any cable to connect to the TV? Like HDMI?
Does it refer anything on specification of having NFC?
Can you know if there are any available to buy? at what cost?
I would really wanna know that before buying. Sorry so many questions.

In the box i received it only had the usb cable, however i do believe hdmi cables will be available to buy.
The model i have doesnt have nfc, i believe that will only be an option in some specific markets...or if the phone comes with the hardware (rf arial) it will be enabled in software at a later update.
Currently the new sgs2 is available for pre order, however i would check with your local vendor for network availability and specific release dates. In the UK the sgs2 is currently retailing for around £500 sim free
Hope this helps!
Hi Stacey.
I have a question.
Have you tried transferring movie files bigger than 4 GB to the internal memory
and SD card and checked if it’s possible to play the video?
It’s probably the same limit for the internal memory and SD card.
There has been discussions in forums that the max file size is 4GB.
You probably need to copy/rip a bluray movie to get a video file bigger than 4 GB.
EDIT:
Could you also test this with USB memory/stick containing the video file and connected to micro USB if possible ?
SGS2 is supposed to have USB On-The-Go.

Does the official Samsung Screen Protector impair S-Pen functionality?

Heya everyone,
First off all I would like to say it's great to be here on the XDA forums. I look forward to my time here.
As for this thread, I live in the Netherlands and screen protectors like the Spigel SGP aren't easy to come by if you don't want to pay for absurd shipping costs. So I was wondering if the official Samsung Screen Protectors impair S-Pen functionality. Since its Samsung and the note 8's strongest point is the S-Pen, I would think not. But seeing how I'll have to fork over 25 euros, I just want to be sure. The only alternative to me seems a Belkin screen protector.
I would be grateful if somebody could provide some insight or experience. Thanks!

Welcome to XDA.
I have not tried the Samsung ones but am using just some cheapo "dry apply" ones off Ebay and they do not interfere with the S-Pen. Would think the Samsung ones would be fine as well. Might not slide quite as well but that may actually be a good thing.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Thank you CC (hope you don't mind me shortening it)!
I feel a lot more confident now. I use the same type of cheap protectors for my phone but for one reason or the other, I just want to invest a bit more in this tablet. It's my first one and I am incredibly happy with it. It's just very powerful and versatile. Once I get the Samsung Protectors I will let you know how they do.
Thanks again for the insights!

I have applied them and after a full day I can say there is no reduction in S-Pen functionality. I can't, however use my finger to write on S-Note anymore, but I actually can't remember if I was able to do it before. Anyway, besides that minor point, everything seems excellent.

Like CCallahan says, this thread is indeed not about cases but screen protector. But mistakes can be made ofcourse. As for your problem, I think the magnet might have temporarily tempered with the hardware controlling the screen. Try to stop using the case for a while to see if it works. If it doesn't, send it to Samsung for reparation. This should fall under the warranty if the case is indeed the problem. The case I use is the Belkin Cinema Stripe cover. It's pricey but amazing quality if you ask me. You can check it out here:

So I was wondering if the official Samsung Screen Protectors impair S-Pen functionality. Since its Samsung and the note 8's strongest point is the S-Pen, I would think not. But seeing how I'll have to fork over 25 euros, I just want to be sure. The only alternative to me seems a Belkin screen protector.
I would be grateful if somebody could provide some insight or experience. Thanks!

Does anyone have a ZTE Axon 7s A2018?

Hey y'all,
Do you have a ZTE Axon 7s A2018?
If so, what is your experience with it?
Device info would be nice to have to see what's lurking under the hood!
Thanks

Well I agree with you one thing being that they are for the Chinese gov and some businesses but you can still get them all day long on AliExpress. Visiting for a Gigaset developers meeting in Germany with a friend of mine that moved to Germany bought one from AliExpress but unfortunately he lost it the same day he got it when we were hiking at the Bavarian Forest National Park. So I never got the chance to get the full experience of what's under the hood. He didn't buy another one because too pricey last year.
I might get one to develop on if it's worth it.
Still to this date I have never seen a real-life picture of the Axon 7S, just the renders that ZTE released on their website and the TENAA images. I didn't realise you could actually buy the Axon 7S from AliExpress but I'm not sure how it could really be worth the price increase just for the dual-camera setup and SD821. I'd be interested to see some thoughts from someone who has the device in regards to the camera quality, etc. The speaker grille is definately a lot more attractive on the 7S.
I'd never heard of them. It's a bit like one plus releasing a T version.
Would like to have one of those
I have one, and let me tell you I can't find any information. Please develop away. I finally started using Baidu.com with google translate and found an update to 6.1 and that took me 2 months for figure out.

Could you post a few pictures of the device? I have never seen any real-life photos of the Axon 7S before, just the official renders supplied by ZTE and TENAA images.
EDIT: Never mind, I just found this video on YouTube that I have not seen before. It gives a good idea of what the device looks like in comparison to the standard Axon 7. The speaker grilles look a lot more attractive!
I'd love to see some camera samples if you're able to take some outdoor shots and upload them!
@Droggi87
Some of the specs are wrong, already know about gsmarena. One of my buddies had one but he sold it before I could see if it had the same dual amp setup.
Thanks though bud

You're right. I think their information are more reliable. https://www.cect-shop.com/de/zte-ax...core-2-15ghz-nfc-4g-lte-bt-4-2-dual-wifi.html
I bought my Zte Axon M there.
@Droggi87
Thanks bud.

Howdy...
Let me know what you want to see and where I should look to find your answers. I wasn't an Android geek until this phone fell in my lap. I LOVE it, but I can't update past 6.1. Let me know.

Welcome bud to the thread!
Does it have dual independent amps like the Axon 7?
Does the camera have OIS?
How much RAM?
Any extra info would be appreciated.
Thank you

Forgive my nubie-ness, lol. Where in the heck do I look to find that out. I have screen shot all the help data from the camera, and I'll post. Also, might you be able to guide me where to look to find out about the amps? I want to learn as much as I can.

Get the AIDA64 app from the play store.
It might tell you what DAC and amplifier you have including other info.
Thanks

Yeah I got one too from my uncle. Has yours got the B09 Android 7.1.1 update yet? Some people that have this device has received the update but mine still hasn't for some reason.
Thanks
Nope, it is still on 6.0.1 and I haven't found any software version other than this on ZTE's site. Do you have any? It is giving a strange problem that its earphone behaves erratically, as it goes off.
