I bought a Solidata Z6 64 GB 1.8' MLC ZIF II SSD that according to the distributor was specified to work with HTC Shift 9500 but I can't get the shift to recognize the disk. Anyone else had problems with this disk? The disk works perfectly in another computer (tried it by old troubleshooting-habit )
If I can't get this drive to work, which SSD disk are you guys happy with for the Shift 9500?

I just installed this one:
Integral INSSD128GP18MXZ 128GB SSD ZIF PATA
got it at eBay for 90,-€ shipping included.

Cool how smooth and silent my shift is running now.

Ok, go ahead in sharing what you know.
Here you have an article about CF vs SSD.
Conclusion is that much better go to a SSD: Much more reability and durability.

well i tried this, it does not fit inside the small space in HTC Shift
i bought it and it fits in my shift i didnt do anything extra also i put on the rubber piece so it doesnt move.
Folks I wonder whether it will be possible to get a SSD to work in the Adam. I ordered a Wifi-only version which has a free miniPCe slot then. Theoretically it could fit a a 64GB SSD Card (I think spacewise 128GB would not fit).
Since I have no experience with Andoid, my question would be how to makt the OS recognize the additional drive.

I like the idea, but the last time I looked into buying a miniPCIe ssd for a nettop I was building, I found out that for the most part they require a special implementation of the slot, as in it won't work unless the slot is made specifically for a ssd. In other words, the "miniPCIe" refers more to it as a formfactor for specially configured slots than as an item that will work in a standard slot. Also, I haven't scrutinized the pictures, but are we sure it is a miniPCIe instead of just a miniPCI.
So, I am not necessarily qualified to say whether it will work or not (if it is indeed a miniPCIe slot instead of a regular miniPCI), and I would love to see this work when I get around to being able to order an Adam, but in my limited research I doubt it is possible.
I think that the miniPCIe slot that you saw is the slot for the Ericson 3G module :-( You have the wifi only version.
On this image => http: // farm6. static.flickr.com/5254/5400487086_cbbd5537be_b.jpg, which is a 3G version, the slot is not empty
I exchanged the mini PCe 3G card of my Dell Laptop with 64 GB SSD (KingSpec IDE PATA 64GB). Both devices have the same formfactor.
I guess the device would fit into the Adam as well, since it uses the same Ericsson 3G card. But you are right there are many different sizes of miniPCe out there. Especially the bigger ones (128GB) might not fit.
If I ever receive my Adam (I really have doubts now) and I solve the driver/mounting problem, I would post some instructions. Meanwhile I would be happy on any hints regarding the a driver for Android.

Since I ordered w/o 3G, I assume my slot will be empty.
Darn, hadn't seen this thread, until it was linked to me after posting something similar..
Nice to see others also feel the hardware hacking potential.

I checked google, found that can diy ssd drive.
There is a Table made in China. it also using the android system & 16G ssd drives, so the drive shouldn't be a problem.
Here is this table ViewSonic VPAD10

I ordered one PiQi + Wifi version of Adam, and i also plans to expand a ssd drive on my own =)

Do you know if the non3G still has the Mini PCIe slot?

Ordered the 16gb yesterday btw. Is there any reason to pay extra just for the 500gb? Especially now that I heard usb storage and full micro usb support is coming in android M?
I too went for the 16 GB version. There are so many drawbacks to having a hard disk (as well as the cost). HDDs get noisy and unreliable as they age and I believe the 500 GB version is dependent on a working original HDD to boot. SD storage is so cheap now and USB 3 flash can be faster than a HDD and nearly as discrete. I guess if you want a no-hassle out of the box experience and you have money to spare and therefore will probably upgrade before the HDD wears out, the 500 GB model still makes sense. It was good of Nvidia to include a microSD slot despite how much it devalues the 500 GB model.
I'm in the market for one also and this discussion was extremely helpful. I was wondering if there were any extra bells and whistles that weren't advertised, that would have made the 500GB model worth the extra cash. Thanks for ya'lls input.
I own a 500GB model and I can say that until you can actually put your own emulators and other media on there it is absolutely worthless. There aren't a ton of high end games on there either.
Thank you for the replies. The unit I got was a dud but I guess I'll replace with a 16gb instead of pushing to get a 500gb. If android M really lets you set it up as internal storage then it might be worth it.
In my country a 128gb micro sd is $70, while the 500gb model is $120 extra.
Don't get your hopes up about M.

Hi guys!
I'd like to ask what is the best option, shield pro with a HDD or shield with 16GB SSD?
I'll use it not like a gaming console, but just as some tiny desktop with a various screen. I'm curious, could I change the HDD in the PRO version in future? What is the better choice, if I'll install linux on it?
Thanks!

Im a Gamer but i have the 16 gb variant and thaths enough for me.Im lucky. I mount a 500 GB external storage, then setting up for internal storage, so i have no problem.
I have read that 16GB version is faster.

I did not know that. but why buy 500gb version, if you can expand the internal memory to a hard disk, a USB stick or an sd card anyway.
There is a promotion on till the 1st of May where they bundle in another controller with either version (at least they do here in the UK). You could always sell it to recoup some cash, they retail for £50. I love the device, now is a pretty good time to buy to be fair.
Personally I bought the 16GB model with the remote bundled on promotion. I've added a 500GB USB2 external drive I had laying around as adopted storage (thanks to Marshmallow) and it works well enough for my liking. A 64GB MicroSD is ~£15 or a 1TB USB3 external HDD would be ~£40. You could probably get the 16GB model and a 2TB HDD for the price of the Pro model in fairness.
I wish I bought the 16th instead of the 500gb. Don't get me wrong, the 500Tb is nice but since I like to run fastboot -w once a week (j/k) it would only take me about 2 minutes to do a good wipe and not 2 hours. I do like stock restyle and full android more than stock. Unlocking the boot loader for root requires the wipe as well.
I bought it when android 5.1 did not hand memory as adoptive memory. Now 6.0 does and drives are cheap.

I was hunting around and I came across this PC at a garage sale..
SPECS:
AMD Phenom II X4 965 (3.4GHz)
16 GB of ram (upgraded from 8GB)
500GB SSD, 1TB HDD, DVD drive
I wonder if it's a good deal..
It also came with a GT 520 but i replaced it with a GT710 and as of now an AMD R7 240
I've gotten a new case for it and it is now a workstation.
2.50 what?
can not tell anything about the deal unless a price has been specified.
$2.50 dollars
well at that price it is a good deal no wonder!
