Question about upgrading to WM6

Hi all,
I have a HTC P4350 and I am investigating if I should upgrade to WM6. I already downloaded the upgrade from www.htc.com and tried to run it even. However it prompted me with the following message right before upgrading:
Upgrading from: 5.4.405.1
Upgrading to: 4.17.405.2
I find it suspicious that I would be upgrading to a lower version number so I'm hesitant to try this. Is this normal?
Another question. The upgrade procedure tells me that all data will be lost. Does this really mean everything? i.e. installed programs, data on the separate memory card, pictures, calendar, tasks, ... So basically would this means that after the upgrade the HTC would be like it came from the shop? Fully empty? If the answer to this question is affirmative then what is the best way to fully backup all my data?
Last question. Is this upgrade worth it? What are the advantages?

if you take wm5 better then wm6. why don't you use the windows98..
4.17 is right.
check your radio or os or some others compare them with wm5.

I want to upgrade my ppc to WM6 but I want to save my sms and contacts and load them to my ugraded rom.
Whats the way to do this?

I also want to ask, I have repaired my imei 2 years ago.
If I upgrade it to WM6 with a newer rom , could it cause a problem?

Another problem is,
I forgot the password of ActiveSync , how can I disable it?

download pimbackup from this site. you can backup your contacts, email & sms with it to put back on once you have flashed.
Suggest you dont backup system data as you cannot restore this safely on a newer os.
look at the good guide on upgrade section, i recomend lazy tools way.
Ur device is not network locked? so u should be ok.
If you ensure u have an original wm5 rom you can always flash this as a backup if flashing to wm6 or 6.1 goes wrong

I backup cotacts sms and emails with pimbackup.But I have doubt if WM6,1 wont recognize this backup.
My ppc all unlock, CID etc.
Could the rom updating corrupt imei area?
And the last famous question which rom should I install??

When you upgrade to cooked 6.1 it will more than likely have pimbackup on it, if not install it. You will have no problems restoring ur contacts, email etc (system data & settings is the only problem so dont use it). I have used this method and there was no problem.
Im afraid i cant answer your imei querie, your best asking a mod (l3v3y is very knowledgable )
As for active sync password, do you mean the unlock code to get access to your device when its turned on? Ive not seen active sync with a password before. Im sure a hard resest would get rid of this password, but if your going to flash a rom, dont worry about it, it wont be there after your flash.
Ha Ha.... best rom? famous question..... There are many good roms out there. It is purely personal choice. Do you want a clean one (max speed and free storage) which you can then add the applications you want, or do you want a full one (maybe a little slower but not much) which comes with a lot of apps cooked in. Disadvantage of full rom ? - apps are always being updated and if apps are cooked in you cannot unistall them to then update them. So i guess you have to read up on the roms and decided.
Look for roms from l3v3y, varanusvincent, gullum, dioxda 2, all great chefs and have released many good roms.
Try a few and test them, only one way to find out. U'll find u cant stop flashing and testing when you start.

I assume you are upgrading from wm5 original rom, so spend a few hours reading, belief me its worth it

I updated the rom to Prophet Diamond and I ll try different roms as you said.

Mostly in my experience. You may get a message that "this program was designed for a previous version and may not display properly) but generally they work fine, you may just not have a full screen or some text isnt shown.
Afraid thats a "try and see" experiment too my friend

Which is the safest way to change language???

Hello All,
I have a Htc Pharos and i want to change its language into english....I was reading the forums and found few threads regarding phone stuck in bootloader after updating the rom....
So now i want to know what is the safe way to change the language of that phone and not to brick this phone.....Which exact rom i need for that???
I have also seen different versions of windows like 6.0,61 and 6.5....Can i flash a 6.1 rom to 6.5 phone without any problem???

htc magic rom install without data plan ?

hi,
I bought unlocked vodafone magic 1.6 from UK in india, now i want to upgrade rom , but i see you need data plan to get root and update rom or to install a custom rom ?
i do have wifi ,
can you please guide me to correct thread or instruction , this will be my first attempt and no help but you all,
and If some thing goes wrong will be i able to restore to original state ?

Wifi for 4.2.2 only like *.zip fix?

I would like to ask you abou one thing.
Do you think, is possible to get wifi fix like flash *.zip? I finally find ROM where I don´t loose cellular, but there is not working wifi. After new build of that ROM, where is wifi working (kernel) I am loosing data. I would like to try apply some wifi zip fix for cellular working build.

May be you will have to wait, because there is no such zip file or fix.
There is a post right above your related to 4.2.2 , you could have posted in it instead of creating a new post.
