Charge Cable Issues

I purchased a cheap (.99 cent) USB data cable for my SGS off of eBay from Korea. It worked well, or so I assumed at first, charging my device and working fine with the outlet charge that came in my box as well as working for data transfer.
Originally my first charge of my SGS lasted a poor 12 hours. The second charge lasted a much better time. And the longest mine has ever gone without being plugged in is about 32 hours, this is with low use however. Maybe 5 minutes of talk time total, 100 sms sent and several web pages viewed on WiFi and 3G. This is much much better compared to my 3gs.
Anyways.. After about 4 days of the new cable I had noticed that my charge time was lasting significantly shorter amounts of time every day I used it. Each morning the phone would confirm fully charged and I would unplug it. It would usually end up dieing sometime before I went to bed. Basically it would only last 14 hours and this is with very minimal use. Mostly standby, in fact, probably about 12 hours of those 14 hours is standby.
So I switched back to my original cable that came in the box when I purchased my SGS and today the phone is holding a charge much better and still indicates full charge after 10 hours since I woke up this morning.
I guess what I am trying to say is that it seems (for whatever reason and if you know PLEASE enlighten me) that the after market cable was doing something strange. Even though it charged my device and the SGS indicated it was at 100% please unplug. It still didn't last as long as when I use the original cable. Anybody know why?
So I suggest steering away from cables that may not be official. Or at least the ones that cost less than a dollar XD.

i think the problem is with the battery and not the cable
the cable either works, or don't work, there is no in between.

I was reading a thread last night on XDA about cheap cables but i forget which one. Im sure it was in Galaxy Accessories though.
The guys there were having similar charging issues or it not even recognising the phone being connected. One of them checked the cable on a multimetre and found it was giving a lower voltage than the original (if i remember right it was about 0.2 volts) so maybe that's your cause?
You would think a cable is just a cable but it seems lower costs mean lower quality materials.

i was not talking about the current transfer,
i was talking about the full charge, and drainging quick, has no relation to the cheap cable
yes the cheap cable might be poor at charging the battery, but it doesn't affect how the battery discharges after it's full

He seems to be still using the same battery but has switched the cable and the problem has gone or at least improved.
I remember my old HTC Diamond, charged via USB (lower voltage) would last less than half the time on a supposedly 100% charge. A full charge on the mains socket (higher voltage) would bring the longer holding charge time back.
I guess we need an update from the OP as to whether changing only the cable 'did' fix it.

the point is i don't see any scientific reasonable logic behind it.
AFAIK that's not how the charged power inside a battery works.

Well I have read a bit more about charging from a USB port on the computer than charging from the wall charger.
Many people seem to experience shorter battery life when charging a device (specifically I read about the iPhone cause it was there) connected to a PC via USB. Usable battery time increased when charging via outlet charger.
I am sure there is a scientific explanation for this. Just because we don't know it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I am interested in this and am going to research it some more.
Perhaps some people should try charging via a PC and USB to see if their battery life diminishes more quickly.

i charge via the PC at work and home for my internal phone battery
the spares are charged separately with a stand alone charger
i see no difference in runtime between wall or PC charged batteries
i'm a heavy user i can drain the entire battery in 4 hours be it wall charged or PC charged
my average battery time when i don't go heavy on it, is 12 hours
on a normal day i need 1 battery pack for AM, and another 1 battery pack for PM

Charging while in use

If I have the screen on while plugged in, my battery % continues to drop and the device itself feels kind of hot. Could I have a problem or is this normal?
My battery life has also not been so great.

Mine doesn't it keeps going up, though I haven't tried playing games. It does depend on what you are doing with the device, if you are running applications that max out the processor it will possibly drop.
The GSII would drain while plugged in if the screen was on. You would see a noticeable drain while using GPS and Music and driving. The only way to make it work was to turn the screen off on the device, the GSIII has a better charging chip in it, and it isn't limited to 650maH (from what I can tell since it is charging when using GPS)

I noticed it while using a usb car cigarette adapter as well as a usb port on my laptop. the car adapter is a 2 amp charger capable of charging a tablet. I will see how it performs with the oem wall charger.

Yeah I was charging my phone earlier using a car was adapter with the oem micro usb cable and they phone got very hot.
What do you guys think? Is this a cause for concern? Do I need to buy a manufacturer approved adapter?

Is it safe to leave the phone plugged in overnight? I usually charge the phone when I go to bed, but I've the this might damage some batteries.

I'm curious about this myself....I'm leaning towards not leaving mine plugged all night. I 2 have done this in the past with other phones and can't be certain but maybe this is a rEason I had horrible batt life despite efforts to Better it. So I'm gonna stick with charging/topping off when I can. Gonna start just charging when I wake up while I'm getting ready for work. I did notice that when battery is completely charged a message comes up telling u so and to unplug. So I'm gonna follow directions haha.

All modern smartphones have chips that control power, and cycle charging appropriately to not abuse the battery. Many phones monitor the temp of the battery and such to ensure a good and safe charge. You can leave it plugged in overnight just fine..

It definitely doesn't like 3rd party adapters. I'm hoping it will at least accept the tab adapter with samsung's cable so that I can charge it at work without buying a dozen chargers, but...
(One charger I used is understandable - turns out its only 300ma. Whoops! But using full 1A chargers wasn't helping either, it went up maybe 1% every 15 mins. The stock charger ran it up fast enough that it was charged from 70% in under an hour.)

I use SetCPU and have a setting to reduce the clock when it exceeds a temperate parameter. You could also set a max clock for when it is plugged into a USB (Computer/Car charger). That could help it stay cooler and charge faster while not plugged into the wall.
I charged from empty to full this morning when plugged into the wall in about 3 hours. I haven't tested on my computer yet.

I went through this when I first got my Evo 4G. I did not realize at the time that the 500mA charger I was using with my Blackberry Storm (horrible device) would not charge my Evo while doing anything power intensive (like using GPS) and I quickly drained it on a car trip.
I went on Amazon and bought a $20 Schosche iPad charger that claimed to provide 2.1A which should be plenty. On that charger the phone would charge while using GPS but very, very slowly.
After some more research I found that some chargers caused the phone to switch into "USB" charging mode and others would switch it to "AC" mode which would draw much more power and charge faster.

My Evo charges just as fast as it does on the OEM wall charger. I don't have my SIII yet (thanks Verizon for being the LAST in the US to ship them out...) so I can't yet say if this holds true for the SIII but I assume it will. At $1.22 it's not much of a gamble.

How long does it take your Nexus to fully charge?

Just wondering, how long does it take you guys to fully charge (From anything below 20% to 100%) your nexus 7? Because I've seen a few posts about battery related problems, and personally I think mine chargers slower than it should.
Also, when I use a wire to extend the charger, it's as if it wont charge, for it to fully charge i'd have to leave it on for hours without use, Since they're aren't any plugs where I'd usually sit to use it, I need to move somewhere else cause the wire is quite small.
For example, I've had it on charge since 2PM today, when I plugged it in it was at 14% battery, now (4:20 PM) it's at 63%. This has been without use, just sitting there charging. Plugged in via the charger and wire that come with it, to an extension with 3 other plugs in it.

I received my N7 with about 40% charge and it seemed like it took a really long time on that first full charge. It has been better since. I have heard if you are not using the original cable for the N7, it will dramatically increase the time it takes to charge and it won't show the charging icon. The supplied cable is USB 3 and your other cables are most likely USB 2. You might want to buy a 6 foot or 2 meter USB 3 cable for convenience. Also, use the original 2 amp charger it came with.

Well, that explains why the extender doesn't work, but I haven't been using that to charge it since I noticed it slowed it down allot. I've only been using the stuff it comes with ever since I noticed that. Still VERY slow though, it's only just reached 96% since starting charging it at 2am. so it's taken 5 hours to get from 14% to 96%, pretty sure this isn't right.

My completely drained N7 (<1%) takes approximately 3 hours and 49 minutes to completely charge it (N7 powered off during charging).

OEM charger and OEM cable.

Nexus 10 taking more than a day to charge!!

Like the title says, my dad just bought a Nexus 10 and when he was charging it from 20%, it's taken more than an hour to charge to 50%. With that logic, the battery is only charging 30% a day, which means it would take 3-4 days from 0%-100%, and that simply is unacceptable. Is it a defective unit? I know about the Pogo charger, but I'm sure he'd rather not spend $25 on it just to find out it doesn't work.
Any suggestions or ways to fix this?

edit: To make things even sound worse, it only charged 2% in 1 hour and 30 minutes.

All I know is that on mine takes about 9 hours to charge with the original charger. The first time I've charged it from 16% with my Galaxy SIII cable, and it took over 14 hours.

That does seem long. I have the pogo charger and it does charge faster.
Before you buy the pogo, are you using the chargers that came with the N10? When I charge my N10 from a laptop/PC, it does charge slowly. So make sure you're charging with the correct voltage/amps.

I'm having a similar issue since the OTA update to 4.4.2.
I'll try changing USB cables, but I'm not optimistic. I'm tempted to try a factory reset if a different cord doesn't work.

With Wifi on, NFC off, Location set to device only, bluetooth off, screen off, using my Pogo cable I get about 22% charge per hour so from 0% to 85% is 4 hours. Whilst on Pogo if I turn brightness to full and sound full then charge is held roughly flat. I moved to Pogo from the supplied cable as when watching stuff even when connected it was discharging, so now I'm never really out of power unless I stay unplugged a long time (about 6 hours unplugged max on low brightness)

This situation happens when the tablet isn't even on, so certain settings being enabled are not the issue.
And for more info, he is using the charger that came with the tablet, so we've just decided that we'll just send it back and get a new one because the battery is obviously defective.

Have you tried a different cable/charger? AN hour to charge from 20% to 50%? Sounds about right to me. I always switch mine off when charging, I can live without when it' off. :good:

I think clearly a human error in the word chosen explains it.

Ahh, I see. Good call in getting it replaced. I hope you have a better experience.

here are a few points
1) the AC USB come with N10 charge up to 2A.
2) the mini USB limit to about 1A
3) if you use other mini charger, that 1A is even smaller.
4) N10 battery is HUGE comparing to all tablet out there. It will take a long time to charge
Solution: get the pogo charging cable that cost $25 (very expensive and can only use for charging), that will fully charge 2A to your tablet which should reduce the time to less than 4hrs given no other power hog apps running at the same time. It will charge slower if that power hog app running too. You can tell by how warm/hot your tablet gets when running such app.
btw, go look at the disassemble of the N10. That battle makeup most of the tablet. LOL

Agree, BUT once you get >85% the rate of charge intake drops. I can get to 85% in 3.9 hours using Pogo cable, but that last 85%-100% is slower. My battery meter sees one kink 85-90 another 90-95 and a slow crawl 95-100. As the battery is not taking up 2A >85%, all chargers, all cables, will largely take the same 85%-100% but the Pogo cable with 2A input will get you to 85% quicker.
I have moved to a dual 2.1A output PSU.

I know you revised the post but just looked at the link to the PSU you mentioned.
Note that $10 one is dual USB socket but only 2.4A total meaning if it is charging the N10 taking 2A it can only offer 0.4A to something else meaning that other thing can only be something like a phone. More importantly is the opposite if you connect a powerpack USB battery which takes say 1.5A or 2A then your Pogo cable cannot deliver its full capability.
The PSU I mentioned earlier is dual 2.1A both concurrently meaning it can charge the N10 and something else also power-hungry like charging a 2A input or 1.5A input USB battery.
There are PSUs out there which can do 4 lots of 2A concurrent, I didn't get one as they were getting chunky and personally prefer two PSUs, a 2x2A + 1A for total 5A which does my N10, my USB battery (2+2) and my phone (1) concurrently taking two power sockets.
Check the details of specifications of these devices, PSUs and batteries vary wildly.

Fast charging issue

Hi guys,
I recently brought a new Note 4 two weeks ago and its awesome, but 2 times this week now I've stuck the phone on charge to get a boost & the fast charge facility has not kicked in.. meaning its only charged about 20% in 30minutes.
If I restart the Note it seems to correct itself but it is a bit frustrating that the phone is less than a month old and 1 of its main selling points isn't working properly.
I have got a sm-n910f running Lollipop 5.0.1
My phones not rooted and I usually clear open apps before sticking the phone on charge.
Fast charge is toggled on. Can anyone give me any suggestions to what might fix this?
I put this query into the battery thread this morning but didnt get a response, so apologies for clogging up the forum but I am hopeful that some genius on Xda can give me some help here [emoji3]

Fast chargin is working only till 50% If you are more than 50, then it is charging with normal speed.

Thanks @Matin.salat I know this. When put my phone on charge at 15% and went to check it 20-25 minutes later it had only crept up 9% to 24%

do you get the "adaptive fast charger" (or something like that) notification when you plug it in? are you using the supplied cable? power only cables do not work with quick charge; needs to be data+power.

AFAIK Fast Adaptive charging only works if you have the specific adapter (charging block) that is capable of it. Are you using the original charger that came with the Note 4?

Yep using the correct charger and usb cable that comes with it. I chucked my phone on charge at 14% at 17:45 today. Went to grab my phone at 20:00 and its only at 43% charged.
I'll be taking it back and replacing it tomorrow or sunday.. I must have a faulty handset!!!

Hey.. I am using a SM-M910C. I had a similar problem just like you. My device is just 4 months old. Fast Charging used to work properly until a week back suddenly I noticed that it wasnt charging fast. Just like you mentioned, it was charging extremely slow. I checked everything to find out whether the problem was with the phone, power brick or cable. I borrowed my friends cable and tried it on and voila it was working fine. It was showing fast charger connected in notifications. So then I remember that, I had used the same charger and cable to charge my Power Bank before that. And I clearly remember the cable being hot at the time when I removed it. So figured that the cable got burnt off or something. Because the cable needs to have a particular resistance in order to support fast charging. Went and bought a new authentic cable and now fast charging is working as it used to. Never gonna charge the power bank with it anymore.

I did the same thing. It took almost 8 hours to fully charge it so i borrowed my wifes S5 charger and voila, fast charging again.
The o2 shop swapped my charger and usb cable and its all good now [emoji3]

Hi we have similar issues, my Note 4 is almost for months old in my hands and I have no issues with fast charger before..it was just happened after I updated my Android version to 5.1.1 lollipop..and now this happened I started charge my phone at 6:47 pm and finished 9:15 do you think its normal ? sounds stange ! normally before Its finished just only 90 minutes..hope some one can help my problem and fix it.. thank you
