Hi, recently rooted my Defy+ BL7 and now when the camera is focusing it sounds noisy, as in the lens moving back and forward it clicks a little and I'm absolutely sure if didn't do this before rooting.
Am I being an idiot and imagining this?!?!
One other question if I may? again since rooting it seems to go from 3G to H much more often then it used to, in fact it almost never showed 3G as the received signal...it would stay on H almost all the time...however the phone still seems to work correctly with data.
Was 2.3.6 stock retail from United Kingdom
45.0.2310.MB526.Retail.en.GB
4.5.1-134_DFP-231
now: 45.0.2310.MB526.NinEFIGSretail.en.EU
4.4.1-134_DFP-231
H is 3.5G, meaning that now you're more often in an area with better coverage or your provider made some updates. H means faster net speed than 3G, it's not a reason to worry.
I'm sure defy/defy+ camera does make some clicks, stocks or custom roms, rooted or not, even for my defy mb525.
It does click for me. On stock, wiui gb, and cm10

Thanks for the replies.... I'm probably just noticing things that were always there before I rooted!
THe very moment I rooted I noticed it showing 3G more often but again, maybe it did this and I never really took notice. My main reason for posting was in case someone says that the change could have an impact.
I haven't yet (dared) to try flashing another ROM as I thoght I'd try the stock ROM but without some of the annoying Moto bloat (Cardio/Zinio/Weather widget/News Widget/7Digital) and also to be able to block ads - so far so good.
About 3G and H sign changing, I think it's because your baseband changed upon flashing rooted rom (NinEFIGSretail.en.EU).
No worries, since you've root you can change baseband at will with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052745
Try change your baseband to suit your region, your mobile data might work better.

Camera focusing noise
Hey there,
I have a defy (red lens) for about 2 years now.. I rooted it after 6 months and from that day till now whatever ROM i install im getting the CAMERA NOISE you mentioned.. Its irritating and scary but i guess its alright :good:
I have had no issues with the camera till now. Don't know why it is caused though..
And as already told the H sign is High Speed Internet i.e 3.5G.. No worries in that either
It has always done sounds when using the camera, it's just the shutter.

i definitely wouldn't go flashing any 'ole radio just because its available for other phones. proceed at your own risk everyone...his boost could easily be coincidence. youre not gonna get that much change.

This radio works fine on the Eris. Still, use caution when flashing it and if your phone explodes don't spam the dev forum asking for help.
No more not being able to make/receive calls as of yet. Also it seems my wifi tether works now but may have been the new ivan rom that came out.
I recommend against flashing non-Eris specific radios.
Do it at your own risk.

It COULD brick your phone... I told myself I would never flash radio images when I gained root. I'm fine with roms and themes thank you very much.

Yeah, that's not true dude. Flashing an incorrect radio update CAN completely brick your phone. Flashing a radio update updates your SPL. If the SPL isn't compatible with your phone/kernel, it could very well completely ruin your phone beyond recoverable.
You're lucky, but for future reference, it's a really bad idea to go flashing any ol' radio update except one that's been tested and working with your phone and kernel.

so awesome
This is why I felt comfortable with flashing the radio...
The ONLY reason I flashed this radio is due to the fact that others did this with no bad side effects (so far). Also, toastcfh has tested other heroc radios on an Eris with no bad side effects (so far) as well as done some good research for us by flashing the radios and seems to be quite knowledgeable when it comes to them.
I'm not authorizing that you should go flashing "any 'ol radio" but heroc and desirec radios seem to be created with the intention of being used on Sprint and Verizon according to research by toastcfh.
toastcfh said:
now for the question about why some radios say heroc instead of eris...
the heroc radio are just that... heroc radios from sprint. its a cdma radio so it works the same as verizon radio. dont believe me?! do a strings | grep on all the radios and u will see they are all using both sprint and verizon logins and such. also as right now im running the latest radio which is the heroc one. everything works fine and its the one ive had best results with on both my Sprint Hero and my wifes Verizon Eris. although others may find better results with other versions.

I believe that was/is a bug with the nexus lock mod. I remember when lwp mod first came out I tried it and noticed the sim card message. I have not gone back to that since so I can't be 100% sure.
well whatever it was it went away after i did a restore so alls good
Is anyone experiencing any issues with this one, I have flashed this radio and my 3G signal is not as good as it used to be.
I have 2 Eris' one stock (baseband 2.32.40.11.09) and one rooted with 2.42.00.03.10. The stock gets 4 3G bars with -70dBm while the rooted Eris gets 2 or less bars with -52 dBm.
From what I'm seeing, 3G speed is also suffering on the Eris with the newer baseband. Can anyone make sense of this?

yeah that's what doesn't make sense to me. the rooted phone says it has a better signal strength, but I'm only getting 2 3G bars (at most!).
I would like to test it but I am unable to find the original 2.32.40.11.09 radio image.
@above
metering has changed in more recent radios. aka bars vs signal strength is different.
soooo is this a yes or no go for flashing?
I tried this out, no noticeable difference in signal strength or speed where I am. Flashed it back to the newest ERIS radio...
Hi Everyone,
Just got the SGSII from VirginMobile. I know there is a thread about SGSII launching in Canada but I thought that us Canadian owners of SGSII need a thread for news, reviews and any additional information since its officially available in Canada as of July 21.
Looking forward to hearing from all owners about their opinion of the device, mini reviews and any relevant discussion.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
My mini review:
Amazing device. Very responsive. Screen is just awesome. The build quality is very nice, despite some reviews saying it feels plasticky, in my opinion, the lightweight and solid build is perfect for this device. When you hold it it feels like a premium device. Everything works like it should.
Pros:
AMOLED+ 4.3" Screen
Responsiveness
Light weight
8MP Camera
TouchWiz 4.0
Cons:
Battery was acting up for two days (Turned auto brightness off and removed some apps and widgets; it is back to normal now, 10% loss over 3hrs)
Maybe somebody can post the modem/radio file for our phone. That would be great!
Loving the phone so far. Thankful for chainfire's root kernel allowing me to titanium back from my arc. Looking forward to a healthy dev community here
Loving my phone all ready unlocked on Rogers.

Here are 2 links with modems/radios for our phones. The first ones are flashable through CWM and the second ones are flashable through Odin/Heimdall.

So far, here have been my experiences with radios...
I can't remember my first radio (KE4 of KF2), but it worked better than KE7.
KE7-Works OK.
KG1-Works better than KE7, but I totally lose signal about 4 times a day (need to put flight mode on then off to fix it).
KG2-Hard to say, I'm only using it since today, but so far, it's the best.
I've had mine since more than a month and a half now and I'm very pleased about the phone. It's my 2nd Android phone (I had a Motorola Milestone before).
I just hate touchwiz so much (but not as much as Sense or Motoblur).
What Bell apps are instelled on the phone? There must be so much junk apps on there, mine doesn't come from Bell, but has all of those Samsung bloatware apps, I guess it must be much worst with one that has Bell's apps on it.
If you want to get rid of those apps, you have a few choises...
1) Root and remove them manually.
2) Install a Samsung based Rom that removed those apps (Cognition is very good).
3) Install CM7 (altough there's still no stable release), you'll get pure (well, actually better than pure) Android.

i hope its not modified like the i9000m (bell vibrant) compared to stock i9000m

Not 100% sure about this, but I've read somewhere that there's almost no difference between the i9100 and the i9100m from Bell. Thankfully it's not modified like the i9000 variant. I haven't seen one from Bell yet, so I'll probably just hop in a Bell store to take a look how different the software is.
Is there any of those Bell apps that could be interesting/usefull?

I may be wrong, but does it really matter? The radios are good for any region. If you ever get hold of a Bell radio, let me know where to get it, I'll try it to see how it goes with a regular i9100.
I picked up a Bell SGS2, flashed the XXKG2 full rom on it that Darkyy posted, then rooted it, flashed Darkyy kernel only from XXKG2, and then the zImage from the CF-Root kernel to remove the yellow triangle.
No bell apps now, and everything works amazingly well including signal and battery life.
There should be no difference in modem files, as the European model and the Canadian one both are the same phone. Both the i9100 and the i9100m have all the 3G bands, unlike how the i9000m and the i9000 didn't.
Just use the full rom that has what you need and all will work fine. I tried flashing a few full firmwares on my i9100m, all worked perfectly fine.
EDIT: GPS locks on also in roughly 5 seconds, indoors, so i don't think you need a Bell modem file.
Network Speeds
How is the network speed performance with Bell/Virgin?
I'm with VirginMobile
At home, I get speeds close to 1mb down and 1.5mb up (download speeds were very disappointing)
But at work (Toronto) I get 7-8mb down and 2mb up
Looks like location plays a huge role.. anyways I was happy when I saw 8322mb/s download speeds..
I flashed the latest stock rom (KG3) and used the CF-Root KG3 kernel.
My network speeds are MUCH better now.

Anyone having issues adding a Google Apps email account after flashing KG3? I flashed the first one listed. Is there a difference between it and the second one?
I suspect it's the radio. I keep getting crappy signal apparently with the Panache stock recently. It's taken to a new level now with no service out in the middle of the street. Is there anything I can do than try to switch radios? Even right now, I keep getting switched from 3G to HSPA+.

Radio Issue
I have a MT4G running 4.2.2 on LiquidSmooth and I cant get anything over 3g even in areas where I previously had awesome 4g service (on stock 2.3.4). I checked my md5 and it does not match any other radio/baseband's md5. I'd really like my 4g back but I also don't want to brick my phone. Currently my md5 is showing up as 60de66c8b88d27b9a3bbae385b7f71dc and have yet to find one anywhere to match it. I am fairly new to rooting androids ( I had an iPhone for like 5 years and I just got fed up with the limitations even when it was jailbroken) I read a forum about extracting the radio.img from a stock rom but I was still iffy about the md5 not matching. Absolutely any advice would be great. Thanks in advance (and apologies in advance if I somehow posted this in the wrong place or something)

"4G" and 3G use the same hardware. None, I repeat, NONE of the available radios break "4G." What you're seeing is a difference in the icons used. Whereas the stock GB ROM simply shows "4G" when using HSPA+, the AOSP variants show 3G when idle and switch to H/H+ when data is being used. There is nothing you need to change. It's a gimmick that often evokes a placebo effect.

Thanks for the quick reply and thank you again for clarifying that. But when I ran speed test my download speed is showing around 350kb/s when I usually get around 1.5 mb/s. I recently asked my friends in the area that also have t mobile and they said they've experienced a decent loss in speed/signal just in the past month or so. So is it possible that another baseband might increase my signal strength at least? Because if it's not possible/effective than I feel like I'd be wasting time trying to fix my md5 issue.

I've read up on this and understand it is supposed to be normal, but man does it make my phone so much worse. Every single time a page loads it has to switch from 3G to H. My reception seems like it sucks so bad because of this. Sometimes it doesn't switch. I get good bars everywhere I go, but it feels like I have terrible reception.
I've never understood radios and such. I'm rooted with the stock rom. Would this be better if I tried cyanogenmod with a different radio? There has to be a fix for this issue.
If you solve this for me, I'll kiss you through the internet.
I don't think kissing anyone over the internet would make them want to help you any more
Its how the phone works, its supposed to switch to 3G to H. H comes on when data is more active.

I knew the bars are for phone calls, but I'm in the city of Chicago and have a hard time believing my data is as bad as it seems. I'll have plenty of times where it shows 3G connection and doesn't switch to H, therefore no data comes through. I've had plenty of times where I didn't believe I wasn't getting data, so I reset my phone and sure enough - data!
I do believe something could be wrong with my specific phone. I might need to try a full reset or flash cyanogenmod. I just didn't want to do that. Especially without checking with you genius's beforehand!

The radio is .48.. Baseband is Radio. You can go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2087227 and try out other radio to see if you get better reception.
If you're in a TMO 4G LTE area you can try activating LTE to see if you'd like it any more.

I can do that, but I'll first have to figure out how to do it. For some reason my drivers say they don't work and it won't let me flash clockwork mod. I was going to make another post about it after I figured this out. Do you think radio could be the issue?
Also, I am on Tmobile, but I thought LTE didn't really work since it was ATT band 4 or something and only very specific areas had it?

Well, I just found out my APN was the one used when you are on LTE. I changed it to the non LTE version and will test over the next few days. If that was my problem, I'm going to be upset at the Tmobile lady who put in that info.
Please do let us know if it's any better after using the epc APN.
If you flash to the .33 radio, the LTE will turn on and it's very good at holding a data connection. It's just when it's not available and my phone connects to hspa+. I have similar problems as you. My signal indicator works great and its blue but no internet. I'm wondering if i'll need to keep switching apns. I hope not.

Hmm. Some good points. I'll let you know in a few days. If it works better, then I might just leave it. It is interesting that you are in Chicago and LTE works. Makes me want to try it. I'll see how this goes first.

I hope not.

Well, I did my commute this morning and there really was no change. It could be a combination of poor data reception areas and slow switching. I'd like to try to flash a new radio, but I don't know how. I can start a new thread about this, but I'll at least mention my problem here. I installed the Nexus 4 Toolkit and went through all the steps to make sure the drivers were installed correctly and such. I did this a long time ago when I rooted the phone. But something is wrong and it doesn't let me flash clockworkmod. It tells me to go through the steps again, which I have tried.
Is there a way to flash a new radio without clockwordmod?

I've been tempted to try messing with lte on my nex 4 as well...live in chicagoland...just worried about how good the coverage is and how well the phone would perform outside lte coverage since I drive all over the tri state area and need my phone to be stable for work.

Lte is amazing in Chicago but not as strong in Chicagoland. However, hspa+ is garbage in Chicago but better in Chicago land.
As for cwm, I prefer twrp. You can just download goo manager from the app store and it will install twrp for you. As far as I know you need to use a custom Rom that supports the older radios or else your calling might mess up. I use aokp.

Well, I tried to use goo manager to install aokp. It seemed like it would work, but nothing happened when I flashed it. It reset and seemed like it was installing something, then I rebooted with no change. Strange.

Just wanted to let you know... I flashed Cyanogenmod and the 33 radio. Everything is so much better. Connection is quicker when switching, but also the 4G is fast! I should have done this a while ago. Been testing for 2 days. I'm in the city, so not sure about the burbs.

I actually tried that a few weeks ago, before I knew what I was doing. I wasn't able to flash it because I didn't have a custom recovery. I'm glad I went to CyanogenMod though. It seems to be faster and there are little things that make it better than stock.

Yeah I was running paranoid android for awhile, currently running stock for the 4.3 update, contemplating cm 10.2 when that gets solid or PA again once they get everything sorted out from the 4.3 hijinks.

I didn't think it would be worth it to switch, but it is. Stock is great, but CM is better. I haven't used paranoid android.

Yeah CM has a lot of nice additions, Paranoid is pretty slick...been a fan of that one on multiple devices. It's built around swapping ui dpi...so you can set your phone to act like a phablet or tablet per app...ie...make gmail look like it does on your tablet on your phone. Let's you drop out the soft keys and replace them with a pop up slide wheel/etc and has a lot of the AOSP and CM features like the quick notification toggles etc.
Hello all I have had this phone since launch date and love it.However when flashing international roms like i9505 or tmobile roms etc... there roms seem to loose signal in and out every so often like maybe once every 15 mins or so.. it only happens to international roms.I am on the latest base running Battery king @ the moment BGA base flashing different kernels made no difference in fixing this issue.Wondering if you guys have any input on this problem ? APN is on ATT LTE
What baseband are you on at the moment?
I have found my dl speeds are 25-40% lower on i9505 roms than US ones. But, they are still very high so not an issue for me. ATT/PTA. LTE didn't get me anything.

Yes I have noticed that with the GE 4.2.2 ROM and the GE 4.3 leak that is out.
My phone sometimes would randomly just lose signal and then come back in maybe 30 seconds. Also I would get a new voice mail and the phone didn't even ring.
So I didn't lose signal as much as you are saying, I just lost it every once in awhile, but I still can relate to your problem.
Currently this afternoon I am working on putting on my phone the latest MF3, pre-rooted and I debloated by myself, so as I don't lock myself out of flashing in the future. I'm just putting in the finishing touches and flashing the MF3 baseband as well.
My take on all this, is the GE ROM is great and has none of the crap that the carrier ROMs have, but the problem is I think that the GE roms aren't optimized for specific carriers, that may be where the performance issues are. Plus I think Samsung is more capable of optimized the OS for their own phone's hardware than Google is.
Pfft that's an at&t thing I flash all roms that are compatible and I never lose any kind of signal and my dl speeds are the same too. Poor guys on at&t keep getting that pole rammed up a little bit further!!!

OK, when I changed to LTE I had no data. Now maybe I could have re-registered on network or rebooted. But, didn't get that far. Just went back to PTA and got LTE back--don't know why
