I am facing a weird issue when using a Wifi connection on my tablet (Karbonn Smart Tab 10)
I can easily connect to the WiFi router at my home and access the internet, but only the Google Play Store App and Facebook App cannot access internet via WiFi.
Using Chrome browser, I can access Play store and every other website but not facebook.com
This issue is only happening in my tablet running on JB and other 2 andriod GB phones at my place work fine using the same WiFi router.
Furthermore, if I use any other WiFi network or 3g connection I do not face the above issue!
I have tried searching across forums and have done the following:
1. Reset the tablet to factory setting 3 times
2. Reset my WiFi router to factory setting
3. Updated the latest firmware for my Dlink wireless DIR300 router
4. Tweaks like enable 11g only setting on my router, removed all levels of protection and kept the wifi unsecure
5. Disabled all firewall options on the router
6. Configured WiFi on the tablet using WPS
7. Installed Firefox and Dolphin browser, but still cannot access facebook
8. Used static ip and also Changed dns to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
None of the above has worked... Can anyone help me pls...
Thanks,
Rahul

Thanks for the reply!
But last night I keep awake upto 4AM and tried every other thing on my tab and the wifi router.
Finally I managed to resolve the issue!!
I changed the MTU in my WiFi router from 1500 to 1300 and now Playstore and Facebook apps can access internet over wifi.
I never knew what MTU was, but read wikipedia to find out. The max possible MTU is 1500 which was the default setting of my WiFi router.
Pls refer this article on wikipedia with topic as Maximum_transmission_unit (Cant paste the direct link here as the forum doesnt allow new members like me to do so...)

I had the same issue dude. I did device reset for couple of times. Was not sure whether the problem was with the ISP or with my Android OS or with the router. I was so damn frustrated with it. FINALLY it got resolved!!! I literally danced on my feet after it started working.
Thanks again!

Good finding. But why you blame the chinese tabs? It is a very strange fix, MTU is to do with the device (in this case is the router)
Another possible solution
Hi,
Came across this thread whilst looking for a solution to a problem with my wife's tablet (a Samsung). Tablet seemed to access the internet fine in the stock browser but many apps such as Facebook, Google Play etc did not work.
In the end it turned out to be the fact that many apps use SSL (secure https) for their connections and the tablet was rejecting all SSL certificates because the date/time was wrong (specifically the date - 13 years back!).
Setting the correct date fixed the issue so I'm posting the solution here for anyone else who comes across it.

Hi, Thanks for your reply!
I actually figured out what the issue was with my tab. There is a setting in the wi-fi router which is known as MTU (Maximum transmission unit). By default this is set to 1500 in most routers. I reduced it to 1000 and now everything is working fine in my tab. However, I feel my internet gets disconnected frequently after changing the MTU to 1000..

I blame the Chinese tab because only for accessing internet via the tab I had to reduce the MTU to 1000. With the MTU set to 1500 in my router all other devices in my home can connect to the internet without any issues. Problem is with the tab and not with the router.

I have a ZyXEL P-2602HW-D1A Wireless router. I have tried all combinations of security, even NO SECURITY WHATSOEVER, and still the device won't transfer data.
Not working;
Firmware: 1.5, Build: CR817
Wifi Router: ZyXEL P-2602HW-D1A
Security: Tried All; WPA2, WPA, WEP & None.
Problem: Connect under all conditions but no data is sent
Please help.
Have you tried another WiFi access point to check the devices WiFi module actually functions?
No, I haven't tried that yet, but don't really see the point... I've connected effortlessly to the same WiFi network with my HTC Touch Diamond.

For some reason my N800 wouldn't connect to MY ZyXEL P-2602HW-D1A unless I set the device (N800) to disable any kind of wifi powersaving features it had.
On another note, how did you get your hands on the device so early? I'm guessing you are using a Cybercity internet connection? (I'm in copenhagen myself)
edit: I actually came to that solution when i noticed I could connect to OTHER accespoints, but not the Zyxel ones.
Same problem here in France with a Freebox as router
I've noticed under the router's WLAN client list that the device does not have a "Host Name". Would that present a problem?
It is assigned an IP address by the router without any problems, though.
Also the device seems to lose connection and reconnect constantly (every 5-10 seconds).
I done some digging around in the router settings and found an "AnyIP" feature. Would that possibly help?
There are a number of issues floating around. Support for WPA2 seems iffy and some people can just change to WPA or WEP and all work fine.
There are however a number of people (such as me) who can get a connection perfectly, it shows connection OK, they get an IP from the DHCP server etc, they can even browse a page for a few seconds... but after that no data is sent and everything times out. This is happening on any security from none through to WPA2.
I have seen no solution to this anywhere and believe me I have looked. Some people have given up and got a new router, but this is not a solution.
Can someone confirm that this has been recognised as a fault with the magic and is being investigated, rather then assuming it's a user or router error. There are far too many instances of this across many brands of router for it not to be an issue with the HTC Magic.

No, but since I'm by far the only one having this issue (try searching the web; see my last post), I didn't feel it was necessary. Just want some input from xda-dev that might solve the problem, if any.

I've had exactly the same problem earlier with the N800 on the zyxel. Exactly how you describe it.
Did you find out if you could turn off any powersaving features on the HTC?
same problem here
in france with a freebox
I don't exaclty know what router is in the box
but I have excalty the same
I set on never the wifi sleep(powersaving) mode.
i found it in setting wifi menu button then advanced and "never"
but the problem is still here

I also have this problem. Im in Denmark with a Zyxel P660HW-p1.
Another user of Cybercity in Denmark with the same problem.
ZyXEL P-660HW-D1
The android is the only device that doesn't work. I have tried with Iphone and laptops.
I've tried to change the settings on the router to no avail.
Enable 802.11g+ mode [on/off]
RTS/CTS Threshold [2432/4096]
RTS/CTS Threshold [2432/4096]
Max. Frame Burst [600/1800]
The device shows up in the device list with no hostname, the HTC Magic gets the right ip address (using the program WhatIsMyIp to view it)
I had the same problem before, when I set my TP-LINK draft N router with WEP security my HD can see it, connect to it (but speed was slow tho), and my HTC Magic just keep saying its not in range. However, when I set it to open security it works, so I recognise its probably the security setting... so I changed that to WPA2 and then it works.
In my case, I see different device have different tolerance to some settings (in my case, draft N + WEP is OK with laptop, HTC HD, but not Magic), so its still worthwhile to try a few different settings, and try a public wireless access point also to double confirm?
Power save?
I have Zyxel (P-2602R-D1A) router.
I had exactly the same problem with my HTC Vox (winmo)... but that was solved by boosting the WiFi in the phone.
WiFi -> Best performance
So Im guessing magic is in some WiFi "power save" mode...
I dont know how this works, but I thought maybe you could change some WiFi settings behind the hood - that is if the hardware is capable of it.
Zyxel (P-2602R-D1A) router
I am having the same issue with this router as the other posters. The phone connects perfectly and reports an excellent signal, but barely sends or receives any data. I have used a terminal emulator to ping the router and it reports an 82% packet loss. This must be a big problem for many Danish users as it is the standard wifi router provided by two of the major ISP's.
same issue here with my vodafone uk magic.
wifi connects and i can browse for a few seconds then get a connection error and can't browse until i re-start wifi on the magic...
i've actually given up using wifi at home now due to this.
router is a talktalk supplied Huawei Echolife HG520b using 128 bit WEP
i can connect fine via wifi at the office so i don't think it's an issue with the handset, just with certain routers or router configs...
this issue has been reported on the vodafone uk forums but as yet no solution.

Hi all,
Ive been having a problem whereby my twitter and facebook feeds wont refresh after browsing the net for 15 mins or so on WiFi.
They work without problems based on phone signal but when using WiFi its as if the signal just drops out even though it says not, and the browser will work just not facebook/twitter. A phone restart or toggle off/on of WiFi doesnt fix the problem.
Im on 2.3.3 and firmware version KE2.
Any ideas or anybody been having the same issue? Ive done some searching but cant find any help...

I'm struggling with this. Thinking of selling it and getting a Sensation...
It may be a defect on your phone. Try bringing it back to the shop and ask for a replacement if you can repeat the issue on their Wi-Fi.
And I wouldn't really recommend on getting a Sensation because of Wi-Fi issue because the Sensation has a worse "death grip" issue (YouTube that and you will see quite a lot of videos on that), other than a very small 1.5GB internal storage/

Does your wifi routes data through a proxy. If yes apps wont be able to connect to the internet on wifi, the browser can.
This is an android issue so shifting to sensation wont help.
Hello Guys,
I can think of two possibilities.. Cause, I had somewhat the same problem in the earlier Galaxy S (I am now on Galaxy SII).
First Scenario :
Both Facebook and Twitter have a refresh timing option under Settings. You must set it to minimum. (For facebook, minimum refresh is 30 mins and for Twitter, Its 15 Mins).
Second Scenario :
I assume that you are using WiFi and I also assume that you have a repeater installed. In that case, you must tinker with the Network WAN settings of your repeater. Typically, the broadband "modem" is set to MTU = 1500 and the "Repeater" MTU is also set to 1500. This causes some problem in uploading data. Now, as facebook and twitter ( as also Android Market ) sends some data first and then downloads data, if the sendng is problamatic, the downloading of data would also not be good. ( A typical way to check it is to try uploading some test snap on facebook. If the test snap is uploading, then your home Wifi is working all right). However, if the picture uploading is not getting through, try to reduce the MTU. This guide will help you :-
"Max MTU: How do I find mine?
The MTU setting controls the maximum ethernet packet size your PC will send (you did know the Internet works in packets, didn't you?). Why a limit? Because although larger packets can be constructed and sent, your ISP and Internet backbone routers and equipment will chop up (fragment) any packets larger than their limit. These parts are then reassembled by the target equipment before reading. This fragmentation and reassembly is not optimal.
MTU and Windows and Defaults
Unless otherwise set, Windows defaults MTU to 1500, or a lower value of 576 for external networks. 1500 is OK unless you are running PPPoE, want to use IPSec (Secure VPNs) or both, then it's too big. 576 is not efficient for the broadband/Internet; it's too small.
Finding the largest MTU, by EXPERIMENT
If your MTU is too low already, maybe 576, the following method will not be able to detect whether you can switch to an optimal size. So first follow "CHANGING MTU for PPPoE" to reset MTU to 1500, reboot and then come back to this!
The best value for MTU is that value just before your packets get fragmented. How do you find that out? By using Ping at an command prompt.
Windows 2000/XP users:
Go to Start/ Programs/ Accessories/ Command Prompt and type the following:
ping -f -l 1472 www.dslreports.com
(That is a dash lower case "L," not a dash "1." Also note the spaces in between the sections.)
Linux users:
ping -s 1472 www.dslreports.com
OS X users:
ping -D -s 1472 www.dslreports.com
Linux and OS X commands are case sensitive.
Press Enter. Then reduce 1472 by 10 until you no longer get the "packet needs to be fragmented" error message. Then increase by 1 until you are 1 less away from getting the "packet need to be fragmented" message again.
Add 28 more to this (since you specified ping packet size, not including IP/ICMP header of 28 bytes), and this is your MaxMTU.
Note:If you can ping through with the number at 1472, you are done! Stop right there. Add 28 and your MaxMTU is 1500."
I hope with the above, the prroblem gets sorted. If you succeed, please leave your experience here...
Regards.
Hi all,
Thanks for your replies.
Neither facebook nor twitter work at all on wifi now. I've figured out that they DO work on wifi on friends/family routers, just not mine!
Whats weird is facebook will work if I login through a browser such as dolphin or firefox, but not through the official facebook app itself. Same with twitter.
My max MTU is set to 1492 - i've checked this is correct using the instructions you provided and it is...
Another issue is browsing the internet - sometimes if i open more than one tab, it stops working altogether, and subsequently any other app that requires access to the internet will not work also. The only way to resolve this issue is by turning the phone off and back on again.
Really struggling with this. Could it be as simple as switching channels within the router?
Im open to suggestions so any ideas i'd appreciate!
Thanks again,
Luke.
Dear Luke,
Ok.. Thanks for the input.. See, if your facebook and twitter is working fine on other Wifi's, it means that there is no problem with your phone setup.. also, when you are using on 3G, there is no problem and that confirms that your handset has no problem at all.. so dont worry on that count..
Read my post carefully..
I had suggested you try upload a pic on facebook using wifi (the one which has problem).. If you are not able to upload, that should confirm that your home wifi has to be set up properly. There are two types of installations of Wifi.. (1) in which the Broadband Modem and Wifi is in a single device and (2) where you have a broadband modem and then a seperate wifi device.
Now the broadband modem also has its seperate MTU which it uses to interact with the broadband server.
Similarlt, the wifi decive connected to the Broadband modem also requires its own MTU to communicate with the broadband modem..
These two are therefore different settings.
You dont typically have to change the settings on the Modem, but only the wifi device. When I faced a similar issue, I had to check and reduce it to 1430 myself so that it works properly.. Try the same.. Try reducing wifi MTU to 1430 leaving the modem MTU to 1500 (default). If you do it right, you will solve the problem...
I had exactly the same problem but I found no real help on the internet android forums.. But that history..
Now, I know this is the real problem and the cure is easy... "Just set the MTU on wifi (device) to 1430... DONE.
Try rebooting the router, and then flush dns settings in cmd.

Hi again,
Allow me to give you a bit more info...
I'm on a talktalk (rubbish!) landline/internet package. My netgear router is plugged directly into the phone line via an adsl cable. The router is configured for wifi access. I presume as I have no seperate device, that the modem is built into the router also.
I tried uploading a picture to facebook and it failed after a few minutes of trying.
Basically last night I tested the MTU via the command line interface using the ping command you provided. At 1464 i no longer received the fragmented packet errors, so i presumed adding 28 to 1464=1492 was the correct thing to do, and so I did this and then checked that in the WAN settings in the router config the MTU value was set to this which it already was.
I'm not quite sure how I set the MTU value specific to the modem if doing so under the WAN settings has not already applied it for both wifi and the modem. Can you provide further assistance if I should be changing a setting elsewhere?
Some further info - I have changed my router so it does not broadcast the SSID, and so that you can only connect to it if your MAC address is listed under the allowed devices which my phone is. I'm not sure if this would cause a problem - it never with the iPh*** (he who should not be named!) i had previously!

Try some other wifi area. Is the problem same or not. Maybe it's good to delete APN from settings and let it configure again.
have you tried paying you're cable bill?
seriously.. the phones all connect via other wifi networks just fine. They connect to this router just fine as well.. All internet connectivity is great except anything to do with google's apps.. youtube, maps, gmail, market.. none will work, but google.com on the browser works fine.
I had this problem 2 days ago. I have searched the web a lot for this problem. Now I found 3 solutions that you may wanna try.
1. Clear cache and reset to factory. Don't skip the sign in on google account. Sign in immediately! (had not worked for me though!)
2. Check your firewall settings. Especially, I used my laptop as a hotspot source with virtual wifi router(ht_tp://ww_w.virtualwifirouter.com/). I have tried connectify and virtual router, but they had problems on my laptop, while VWR is simple and effective! (I still couldn't connect to market and youtube at that moment though! Very very frustrated!)
3. I read someone said he tried to set the parameters of his mobile network manually, and it worked for him. I didn't expect much on this method but did give it a try. OMG! It worked! What's worth to notice is that I found that the instruction provided on my operator's website (Orange.fr) is actually a little bit different from the settings the phone automatically loaded.
3.
Hope it works for you guys!
I had same problem but reset of router helped...
You know what, I think it's the operator or google's dirty trick. For no obvious reason, I am blocked out of market again with wifi. I can surf on porn sites with wifi but no luck on market and google's stuff!

Have you tried to do it using Wifi connection? Or 3g only?
Maybe your provider is blocking something. Try different provider/wifi network.
my suspicion is that Google and Yahoo are trying to offer to use IPv6 and your connection can't handle it.

I don't think that's the issue as my internet connection provider doesn't provide IPv6 yet and my tab connects to google using IPv4 and the fact that the DNS query for google.com returns both IP4 and IP6 addresses is not an issue.
Of course it could be the other way around. RogerCurrier's provider may support IPv6 but there can be some connectivity issues between both AS (authonomous systems) networks over IPv6. But still I don't believe that this is really an issue in this case.
Thanks for your suggestions..
I think i am getting somewhere, previously I have been using the wireless connection. Turned off the router and using 3gl I can connect to Google etc. So it seems that the problem is with the wireless connection.
Turned the router off for an hour, rebooted the Android- No difference, still can't connect to Google etc, and other connections seem slow. Have another pc using XP and it connects to Google no problem using the same router.
Checked connection with the following report: Status connected, security WPA/WPA2 PSK, Signal strength Excellent, link speed 65Mpbs, IPAddress 10.1.1.
Are there any other settings I should be aware of?
To find out which device is the source of the problem (tablet or router) it would be best if you could try another wifi connection (for example in your friend's house or some hot spot). That would show if the problem is only when you connecting to your or to any wifi connection.
Yes, I was coming to that conclusion, will try the library tomorrow. Thanks, will keep you informed.

Just checked the Amstrad in the local library. It connected to Google no problems so the problem is with the router. It looks like i will have to try another forum. Thanks everyone for their help. Long live the Android.

Solved the problem after many hours of struggle. Made my network address static instead of dynamic. Made all the difference, quite happy now, hours to Google etc. Can't see why it should make a difference but it does.
Thanks for everyone's help and assistance.

Hi,
I am kinda out of options now as I have tried all the known fixes and some for the dreaded cannot obtain IP address / Internet may not be avalable problem...
I have a Samsung Galaxy S8 and this problem only occours on my home WIFI (Vodafone) - when I go to my friends house who has SKY it works flawlessly...
-------------------
Clearing the google play services cache used to allow the cannot obtain IP address to not happen - but since the AUG 1 update it now wont unless I set a static IP / DNS.
either way no matter what I do it always stops at Intenet may not be avalable and its not joking - I really have no internet.
---------------------
I have tried....
Factory Resetting the phone / Phone Cache / Google Play cache.
Set statip IP and DNS correctlly - (Using both the default gateway IP and google DNS servers - and even mixed them up to see)
Set up the guest IP on my router / Set up a 2nd and even 3rd router as a second and third Access Point (One being a SKY router like where it worked at my firends) - correctlly. (Using both static and DHCP)
All the normal forget network / reset network settings in the phone.
- I was looking for the WIFI thing in developer optons as well thats about on the net - I do not even have that opton in developer option.
--------------------
Main problem is - execpt at my friends house and elsewhere (So i can connect if the conditions are right it seems) -- DHCP is outright broken since the AUG 1 update (and was befoe if you didnt clear the google play cache after a factory reset) - and results in "Cannot obtain IP address" (Even though the router says it has one)
Setting a static IP moves past cannot obtain IP address - but then gets stuck on "Internet may not be avalable" and gives me no internet as well when i try to load a page.
--------------------
I don't know what else to try now I am litterlly at the end of my teather (If you parden the pun)
Thank you in advance if you have any ideas.
Oh and I might like to add - nothing else has any problem at all connecting to these wifi networks - computers nor other android phones - but none that are the S8.

That is definitely my next try - but that's only going to work if a SKY router works on a Vodafone ISP connection - then maybe there is a chance - but its defo something with the S8 this is a known bug - and its the only thing having any problems - everything else works just fine - even on the other APs I set up - even on the SKY AP it does it - that is connected as a secondary router right now - and not on the main connection but that was what i was going to try next but we cant expect everyone to change their routers just because they have an S8 - this is slightly rediclous the S8 has this bug / problem when other devices do not - and it may be in software.

i have 3 routers in my house and there is one PS4 that gets all butt hurt about it having been restricted from the internet and then unrestricted. Its weird because it can still see stuff on the local network even after rebooting the router and PS4. Now, this would be one of those "WTF???" things if it wasnt for the fact that we have another PS4 which is very close in serial numbers to the one that has issues and its flawless. We also have 2 more wifi networks that this doesnt happen on. The router is a Netgear Nighthawk, so its not a POS either. So, i dunno. Some devices can be picky i guess
Just tried to use the Sky router with vodafone broadband and no luck - and I see no way of changing or getting any usernames or passwords for those routers....
It just says connecting on the sky router and never connects since it is a different ISP i imagine.
I am stuck with a phone I cannot even use at home with the internet now - can't even use it because I can't even bring up google.
what do you think I should do - cos the phone is pretty much useless to me without the internet.
Um yeah I managed to fix the problem...
I didn't realise I had MAC filtering on in two places in the router and not just the WI-FI Section - that was dumb.
Turned it off and everything is now fine - connected first time! - sorry Samsung! and sorry i got you all wasting your time on this...
And for anyone else that has tried everything else - check mac filtering in your router - and in every page!
Thanks for helping and everything is sorted now!
