Facebook/Twitter feed wont load on WiFi issue SGS2 - Galaxy S II General

Hi all,
Ive been having a problem whereby my twitter and facebook feeds wont refresh after browsing the net for 15 mins or so on WiFi.
They work without problems based on phone signal but when using WiFi its as if the signal just drops out even though it says not, and the browser will work just not facebook/twitter. A phone restart or toggle off/on of WiFi doesnt fix the problem.
Im on 2.3.3 and firmware version KE2.
Any ideas or anybody been having the same issue? Ive done some searching but cant find any help...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA

Any body any ideas?
I'm struggling with this. Thinking of selling it and getting a Sensation...

It may be a defect on your phone. Try bringing it back to the shop and ask for a replacement if you can repeat the issue on their Wi-Fi.
And I wouldn't really recommend on getting a Sensation because of Wi-Fi issue because the Sensation has a worse "death grip" issue (YouTube that and you will see quite a lot of videos on that), other than a very small 1.5GB internal storage/

Does your wifi routes data through a proxy. If yes apps wont be able to connect to the internet on wifi, the browser can.
This is an android issue so shifting to sensation wont help.

Hello Guys,
I can think of two possibilities.. Cause, I had somewhat the same problem in the earlier Galaxy S (I am now on Galaxy SII).
First Scenario :
Both Facebook and Twitter have a refresh timing option under Settings. You must set it to minimum. (For facebook, minimum refresh is 30 mins and for Twitter, Its 15 Mins).
Second Scenario :
I assume that you are using WiFi and I also assume that you have a repeater installed. In that case, you must tinker with the Network WAN settings of your repeater. Typically, the broadband "modem" is set to MTU = 1500 and the "Repeater" MTU is also set to 1500. This causes some problem in uploading data. Now, as facebook and twitter ( as also Android Market ) sends some data first and then downloads data, if the sendng is problamatic, the downloading of data would also not be good. ( A typical way to check it is to try uploading some test snap on facebook. If the test snap is uploading, then your home Wifi is working all right). However, if the picture uploading is not getting through, try to reduce the MTU. This guide will help you :-
"Max MTU: How do I find mine?
The MTU setting controls the maximum ethernet packet size your PC will send (you did know the Internet works in packets, didn't you?). Why a limit? Because although larger packets can be constructed and sent, your ISP and Internet backbone routers and equipment will chop up (fragment) any packets larger than their limit. These parts are then reassembled by the target equipment before reading. This fragmentation and reassembly is not optimal.
MTU and Windows and Defaults
Unless otherwise set, Windows defaults MTU to 1500, or a lower value of 576 for external networks. 1500 is OK unless you are running PPPoE, want to use IPSec (Secure VPNs) or both, then it's too big. 576 is not efficient for the broadband/Internet; it's too small.
Finding the largest MTU, by EXPERIMENT
If your MTU is too low already, maybe 576, the following method will not be able to detect whether you can switch to an optimal size. So first follow "CHANGING MTU for PPPoE" to reset MTU to 1500, reboot and then come back to this!
The best value for MTU is that value just before your packets get fragmented. How do you find that out? By using Ping at an command prompt.
Windows 2000/XP users:
Go to Start/ Programs/ Accessories/ Command Prompt and type the following:
ping -f -l 1472 www.dslreports.com
(That is a dash lower case "L," not a dash "1." Also note the spaces in between the sections.)
Linux users:
ping -s 1472 www.dslreports.com
OS X users:
ping -D -s 1472 www.dslreports.com
Linux and OS X commands are case sensitive.
Press Enter. Then reduce 1472 by 10 until you no longer get the "packet needs to be fragmented" error message. Then increase by 1 until you are 1 less away from getting the "packet need to be fragmented" message again.
Add 28 more to this (since you specified ping packet size, not including IP/ICMP header of 28 bytes), and this is your MaxMTU.
Note:If you can ping through with the number at 1472, you are done! Stop right there. Add 28 and your MaxMTU is 1500."
I hope with the above, the prroblem gets sorted. If you succeed, please leave your experience here...
Regards.

Hi all,
Thanks for your replies.
Neither facebook nor twitter work at all on wifi now. I've figured out that they DO work on wifi on friends/family routers, just not mine!
Whats weird is facebook will work if I login through a browser such as dolphin or firefox, but not through the official facebook app itself. Same with twitter.
My max MTU is set to 1492 - i've checked this is correct using the instructions you provided and it is...
Another issue is browsing the internet - sometimes if i open more than one tab, it stops working altogether, and subsequently any other app that requires access to the internet will not work also. The only way to resolve this issue is by turning the phone off and back on again.
Really struggling with this. Could it be as simple as switching channels within the router?
Im open to suggestions so any ideas i'd appreciate!
Thanks again,
Luke.

Dear Luke,
Ok.. Thanks for the input.. See, if your facebook and twitter is working fine on other Wifi's, it means that there is no problem with your phone setup.. also, when you are using on 3G, there is no problem and that confirms that your handset has no problem at all.. so dont worry on that count..
Read my post carefully..
I had suggested you try upload a pic on facebook using wifi (the one which has problem).. If you are not able to upload, that should confirm that your home wifi has to be set up properly. There are two types of installations of Wifi.. (1) in which the Broadband Modem and Wifi is in a single device and (2) where you have a broadband modem and then a seperate wifi device.
Now the broadband modem also has its seperate MTU which it uses to interact with the broadband server.
Similarlt, the wifi decive connected to the Broadband modem also requires its own MTU to communicate with the broadband modem..
These two are therefore different settings.
You dont typically have to change the settings on the Modem, but only the wifi device. When I faced a similar issue, I had to check and reduce it to 1430 myself so that it works properly.. Try the same.. Try reducing wifi MTU to 1430 leaving the modem MTU to 1500 (default). If you do it right, you will solve the problem...
I had exactly the same problem but I found no real help on the internet android forums.. But that history..
Now, I know this is the real problem and the cure is easy... "Just set the MTU on wifi (device) to 1430... DONE.

Try rebooting the router, and then flush dns settings in cmd.

Hi again,
Allow me to give you a bit more info...
I'm on a talktalk (rubbish!) landline/internet package. My netgear router is plugged directly into the phone line via an adsl cable. The router is configured for wifi access. I presume as I have no seperate device, that the modem is built into the router also.
I tried uploading a picture to facebook and it failed after a few minutes of trying.
Basically last night I tested the MTU via the command line interface using the ping command you provided. At 1464 i no longer received the fragmented packet errors, so i presumed adding 28 to 1464=1492 was the correct thing to do, and so I did this and then checked that in the WAN settings in the router config the MTU value was set to this which it already was.
I'm not quite sure how I set the MTU value specific to the modem if doing so under the WAN settings has not already applied it for both wifi and the modem. Can you provide further assistance if I should be changing a setting elsewhere?
Some further info - I have changed my router so it does not broadcast the SSID, and so that you can only connect to it if your MAC address is listed under the allowed devices which my phone is. I'm not sure if this would cause a problem - it never with the iPh*** (he who should not be named!) i had previously!

Its probably not the answer, but its one of those silly things...and the worst it can do is just freshen the connection.
EDIT:I messed up the previous link. so here it is: http://www.tech-faq.com/how-to-flush-dns.html

Just set it to 1464 then. We are on the right track.

WiFi data transfer problem

I have a ZyXEL P-2602HW-D1A Wireless router. I have tried all combinations of security, even NO SECURITY WHATSOEVER, and still the device won't transfer data.
Not working;
Firmware: 1.5, Build: CR817
Wifi Router: ZyXEL P-2602HW-D1A
Security: Tried All; WPA2, WPA, WEP & None.
Problem: Connect under all conditions but no data is sent
Please help.
Have you tried another WiFi access point to check the devices WiFi module actually functions?
No, I haven't tried that yet, but don't really see the point... I've connected effortlessly to the same WiFi network with my HTC Touch Diamond.

For some reason my N800 wouldn't connect to MY ZyXEL P-2602HW-D1A unless I set the device (N800) to disable any kind of wifi powersaving features it had.
On another note, how did you get your hands on the device so early? I'm guessing you are using a Cybercity internet connection? (I'm in copenhagen myself)
edit: I actually came to that solution when i noticed I could connect to OTHER accespoints, but not the Zyxel ones.
Same problem here in France with a Freebox as router
I've noticed under the router's WLAN client list that the device does not have a "Host Name". Would that present a problem?
It is assigned an IP address by the router without any problems, though.
Also the device seems to lose connection and reconnect constantly (every 5-10 seconds).
I done some digging around in the router settings and found an "AnyIP" feature. Would that possibly help?
There are a number of issues floating around. Support for WPA2 seems iffy and some people can just change to WPA or WEP and all work fine.
There are however a number of people (such as me) who can get a connection perfectly, it shows connection OK, they get an IP from the DHCP server etc, they can even browse a page for a few seconds... but after that no data is sent and everything times out. This is happening on any security from none through to WPA2.
I have seen no solution to this anywhere and believe me I have looked. Some people have given up and got a new router, but this is not a solution.
Can someone confirm that this has been recognised as a fault with the magic and is being investigated, rather then assuming it's a user or router error. There are far too many instances of this across many brands of router for it not to be an issue with the HTC Magic.

What I mean is have you tested the device on ANY other AP except the ZyXEL?
No, but since I'm by far the only one having this issue (try searching the web; see my last post), I didn't feel it was necessary. Just want some input from xda-dev that might solve the problem, if any.

I've had exactly the same problem earlier with the N800 on the zyxel. Exactly how you describe it.
Did you find out if you could turn off any powersaving features on the HTC?
same problem here
in france with a freebox
I don't exaclty know what router is in the box
but I have excalty the same
I set on never the wifi sleep(powersaving) mode.
i found it in setting wifi menu button then advanced and "never"
but the problem is still here

Could be DHCP lease time problem. Did anyone of you tried to set up Magic with Static IP?
Yes, I tried that also - didn't help one bit.

I also have this problem. Im in Denmark with a Zyxel P660HW-p1.
Another user of Cybercity in Denmark with the same problem.
ZyXEL P-660HW-D1
The android is the only device that doesn't work. I have tried with Iphone and laptops.
I've tried to change the settings on the router to no avail.
Enable 802.11g+ mode [on/off]
RTS/CTS Threshold [2432/4096]
RTS/CTS Threshold [2432/4096]
Max. Frame Burst [600/1800]
The device shows up in the device list with no hostname, the HTC Magic gets the right ip address (using the program WhatIsMyIp to view it)
I had the same problem before, when I set my TP-LINK draft N router with WEP security my HD can see it, connect to it (but speed was slow tho), and my HTC Magic just keep saying its not in range. However, when I set it to open security it works, so I recognise its probably the security setting... so I changed that to WPA2 and then it works.
In my case, I see different device have different tolerance to some settings (in my case, draft N + WEP is OK with laptop, HTC HD, but not Magic), so its still worthwhile to try a few different settings, and try a public wireless access point also to double confirm?
Power save?
I have Zyxel (P-2602R-D1A) router.
I had exactly the same problem with my HTC Vox (winmo)... but that was solved by boosting the WiFi in the phone.
WiFi -> Best performance
So Im guessing magic is in some WiFi "power save" mode...
I dont know how this works, but I thought maybe you could change some WiFi settings behind the hood - that is if the hardware is capable of it.
Zyxel (P-2602R-D1A) router
I am having the same issue with this router as the other posters. The phone connects perfectly and reports an excellent signal, but barely sends or receives any data. I have used a terminal emulator to ping the router and it reports an 82% packet loss. This must be a big problem for many Danish users as it is the standard wifi router provided by two of the major ISP's.
same issue here with my vodafone uk magic.
wifi connects and i can browse for a few seconds then get a connection error and can't browse until i re-start wifi on the magic...
i've actually given up using wifi at home now due to this.
router is a talktalk supplied Huawei Echolife HG520b using 128 bit WEP
i can connect fine via wifi at the office so i don't think it's an issue with the handset, just with certain routers or router configs...
this issue has been reported on the vodafone uk forums but as yet no solution.

Wifi router working for anyone?

I have a vodafone uk hd2 and have been really impressed with it as a product. I have not had any luck with the supplied wifi router software, I go through the minimal setup and press start and as far as the phone is concerned the router is up and running, the problem i have is that neither of my laptops can see the router.
Has anyone had any luck using it? Is it possible that vodafone have disabled it somehow?
Alternatively so i can manually add the router does anyone have the following details that would be setup automatically;
wep in use? is it 128 pass phrase or 40/128 key?
open system authentication or shared key?
im guessing the wep index would be 1?
Thanks
Search .. it was discussed 10 times already.
Thats as maybe but none of the several threads have a real answer as to why some people have it working and others dont. It also seems that the functionality can be effected by soft reset which isnt ideal at all. Also i havent been able to find any of the above original settings that i asked for in the threads hence the post.
Works for me
Hi,
works great for me - just have to make sure that you're not connected to WLAN with the HD2 when trying. Disabling WLAN, then starting WIFI-Router does the trick for me.
Good luck !
I am on vodafone and wifi router works perfectly for me. It worked when I had the stock 1.43 rom and it works with all the cooked roms I have used since.
i did notice it only works with 802.11g not with 802.11b devices like PSP or some other phones..
Is that really the case that it only works with 802.11g devices? Im fairly sure my netbook isnt new enough to have 802.11g and as such probably wont see the router. Has anyone found a way to get the router visible to 802.11b devices?
Wonder if u have enable the N band function . I think Wi fi router will not work properly when it is enable. I did numerous testing with my laptop and iphone . When n band is enable on HD2 , Iphone can surf net thru HD2 but not the laptop . When n band is disable , device can connect no problem ..... So , to get wifi router to work , just have to stick with g band until someone can solve the issue .
Just to add on my previous post , I tried using WMWIFIRouter , also come back to same result ....

The N band doesn't work anyway on the HD2.. better turn it off.. just because there's a parameter in the registry doesn't mean it works..
I have a N router at home and while it looks like it's doing N and it states "auto" instead of 54mbs, it still connects to the narrow band channel on the router..

N Works. I have a Linksys WRT320N router that can operate on N only, and the phone connects fine (at regular 2,4 ghz, the new 5 ghz doesn't work). Didn't speedtest.
I tried the standard sharing prog and wmwifi router (different versions) and can only, with a lot of effort, get my laptop on the net through the BT of my HD2. I have the N tweak on. Also did the trying in range of the router.
Any chance it's the computer you are trying to connect with? Tried with my work computer, but couldn't because our Dells have computer to computer(adhoc) connections locked out for security. Does the wifi router function show up as adhoc or access point?

Ok Ive got a similar problem with the wifi router and vodafone
everything works hunky dory wifi router turns on, computer connects all is good only when i try and access a website i get a http error 403 forbidden message as if voda have restricted access i have no idea how this would be possible though.
Ive tried many site same result and many browsers chrome, safari, ie, firefox and opera
same thing
the strange part is that tweetdeck and skype work while the browsers don't
HHMMM
anyone else experienced this problem
As I'm on O2 I was quite keen to flash a new ROM to get the wifi router working as they did the dirty on us by ripping it out of the 1.43 they shipped it with...suffice to say that I'm not overly impressed with it after the couple of trials I've made using 1.66 ROM as the speeds its capable of generally fall short of what you get if you simply connect it via usb and use data sharing..bear in mind that I've only tried it twice so far and as such I may refine my opinion with further trials in different locations but as I was hoping to avoid repeatedly connecting leads to the usb socket it's a bit of a blow sooner or later, wear and tear will be an issue to think about.
my findings
had a play with the router, just to see and initially thought it wasn't working.it connected, but wouldn't pass any data.
25 minutes of my best network technician skillz later still no joy... that is until I remembered the laptop has a fixed ip and default dns server address set. as soon as I set them to automatic, bingo, fully working.
did a speed test from the laptop (mobilespeedtest.com) and got just under 900kbit over 3g. winner!
The connection only shows as 802.11b, but that's fast enough for the 3g connection so no worries.
the only down side is that it's adhoc, so the wifes n95 doesn't see it..but then again thats possibly a blessing In disguise!
EDIT as mentioned by the poster below, I had three connections present, (wap.o2.co.uk, mobile.o2.co.uk and paymonthly.o2.co.uk) and the router wouldn't work on them all, though I forget now which it would and which it wouldn't.
I never tried with 1.43 O2 ROM, but after flashing to 1.66 stock rom I just tried this.
For some reason I have 3 internet connection options:
1) Pay monthly contract
2) o2 active
3) mobile web
My standard connection is "mobile web" so I tried this first, and my laptop couldnt see the HD2 as a WIFI router. I then tried the "pay monthly contract" option and it worked straight away.
Now under my Notifications screen under O2 3G UK, I have two connections running, and the download speeds running the same as my home broadband due to the HSPA connectivity available through the phone.
Anyway, I just thought I would share this with anyone it may help.

X10 & Netgear DG834v5 Wifi Connection Problems - Solution

Hello all,
I love my X10, but the frustration with getting it to connect to my Netgear DG834 router was getting to me, so I dedicated an afternoon to working out a solution and I've found one that works for me, so I hope it'll work for you too.
Summary of problem
--------------------
The phone will connect to the Router once, and once only. Any attempt to re-connect to the wifi will result in the phone disconnecting, scanning again, then discinnecting until the user gives up. Nothing will cause the phone to reconnect (telling it to forget the connection for example). The only surefire way to reconnect is to reboot the router each time - not ideal.
Manually adding a Static IP also doesn't work - which is weird as that is how I've solved it, see below.
Scale of problem
----------------
The problem seems to be with the router and not necessarily the phone as it appears to be on a wide range of phones (Hero, Droid, Touch HD etc.). Seeing at the DG834 is the most popular router in the world, and Android is growing all the time, there are a large number of people affected.
However Iphone and Symbian phones appear to be unaffected.
Reason for the problem
-----------------------
Currently unknown, but appears to be something to do with the handshaking procedure when a device asks the router for an address (DHCP) - though as to what I don't know.
Solution
--------
1) Download an app called WiFiStatic from the App Market. WiFiStatic takes each DHCP assigned IP address and stores it in a small database to be re-applied whenever you are back in range of the same Router again. It is not an ideal solution as you may have to re-scan and re-assign if you visit a busy hotspot, but this is a two press function, so it's not that onerous.
2) Turn off your Router. Make sure the WiFi on your phone is off too.
3) With the router off, clear your Remembered WiFi connections (or at the very least the Netgear connection). Once that's done, turn the Router on again and wait until it is full back up again.
4) When the Router is fully operational again, turn on your wifi on the phone and let is scan for and connect to the Netgear Router. You may need to tell it to connect from the Wireless Settings menu on the phone.
5) The phone should now connect to the Router successfully. If it doesn't, repeat the above procedure.
6) With the phone connected to the router, fire up WiFiStatic. Check Auto Switch and Show Visual Prompt if they are not already selected, then Tap Add configuration at the bottom of the screen.
7) The IP address and other settings assigned by your router should be displayed at the top of the screen, at the bottom should be the name of your router and its MAC address. If not then tap Menu > Generate to populate the form.
8)Tap Menu > Done when everything is ok.
That's it. Now when you move into range of your Netgear, you should get connected, though it does take a bit longer than normal (the Router still wants to assign an address first before accepting the static IP). You can speed this up by changing the Device table on the router to always keep the Phone's static IP open.
This shouldn't work as all my other attempts with Static IP failed, but I've had five days now of instant connection to WiFi at home, so something has been freed up.
i can not tell you how seeing this post was like finding bin ladin in the white house. Prob would have found him twice trying to solve this WIFI problem. And the strange thing is this is the 1st phone i have had that there are so few posts about it...is everyone on that icrack? scary. cheers to you...
Thank you for posting this.
I tried this with my and it seems it doesn't make a difference for me. I still can only connect once to the router and for me to connect again i have to restart the router again. Am i missing something?
Problem is when I connect for the first time at home it works then when i leave to the office i use the wifi there and never have any problems there but when i get back home it doesn't work. Do you guys switch the wifi off manually when you are not using it?
one thing that is almost always overlooked is updating the router's firmware. this usually solves a number of issues. I dont know about netgear but it's worth a try to update

That was one of the first thing i tried....it seems i have the latest firmware.
Is this an issue for a lot of people then? Ive one of these routers and never had an issue connecting any phones to it. Had 3 nokias and 3 different android phones, currently on the x10, and they all connected fine everytime.
i have some troubles in x10i wifi connection and holp someone helps me~
------------------------------
im chinese, my x10i have had the lastest firmware but the phone cant connect the AP which set the channel is "13". but i used it long before and suddy just one day i find it dosnt work~ it cant scan(and find) the AP anymore !
then i have tried and config the router in another wifi channel(just like 1,8,11..) and the phone can scan and refind the AP.
i have tried to reload the phone's default setting, but it dont work(in channel 13)ToT
---------------------------
someone tell me why? and someone give me some suggest?
in china , lots of router's wifi channel are using "13" by default(factory setting);so, if my x10i cant works in that channel means i couldnt find the "opend APs" which in the public place(like KFC~~)

I love my X10, but the frustration with getting it to connect to my Netgear DG834 router was getting to me, so I dedicated an afternoon to working out a solution and I've found one that works for me, so I hope it'll work for you too.

Thank you! I have spent three days trying to get my phone to re-connect to a DG834v5.
Your solution has worked! I had gone as far as reserving an IP address on the router and linked it to the MAC of the phone... no dice. The phone would connect once and then never again until the router was reset. Really irritating because I have two PPPoe connections running through the router with a routing table that has to be re-loaded via telnet every time the router is reset. I was considering a new phone or a new router.
HI,
I have near the same problem.
But I found out that when I remove on the access point the hidden function ( SID ) then it works perfect.
so that is a bug in the ROM of the X10, I have the R2b026.
At the moment everone can see my Access Point but I can live with that solution.
Worked for me! Many many thanks this had been infuriating me...
Same problem here - never had an issue with any other router, so I blame Netgear...
Let's just hope this works - it's been driving me crazy for the past 5 days...
Neh, hasn't worked for me....
Stupid freakin' Netgear...
works on the HD2 aswell. Thanks alot!
Not just Netgear, maybe Android

I am having the same issue on my HD2 Android 2.3.4, connecting to a D-Link DIR-635. If I use Static IP, everything is fine...
WORKS! I can't believe it, finally i can disconnect and connect without having to reset my router everytime. BIG thanks man!
alright, it worked fine for the first 5-6 hours. then it went back to not connecting without rebooting the router. this problem happens only with my home router, at work i can connect fine, as well as in other places.
any thoughts or solutions? i mean it did work in the beginning, then why did it stop? shall i change my router?
P.S.: i noticed that every time i connect to my home router i get the same IP address and all the stats are the same.

Wifi - getting address, no connection at the end

Hi, in case this has been already solved I apologize in advance, however I searched all the post on this and could't find real solution to my problem and from what I have read I am not alone...
The think is that if I install any build of Androud to my Leo everything works perfect except the WiFi connection - after enabling WiFi and pointing it to my router it recognizes it, accepts the password (WPA-PSK protection) and then after some time of getting IP it never connects and it goes on and on.
I tried every single thing I have found all around this forum and many others, unfortunatelly nothing could make it work (forcing static IP, opening the network without protection, changing networks SSID, leaving WiFi on and restarting, etc.)
It is really pitty as I really like the way Androind moves on HD2, but as I use the Wifi a lot to unload a bit my data plan I cannot stick with it at the moment. So, is there any real solution to this problem?
Thank you in advance.
I have the same problem. But the connection is fine when I was under Winmo.
The only time I've experienced a similar issue was when I upgraded to a new kernel, without pushing the new modules. What builds and kernel are you using?
Sincerely,
Mac
Try updating your builds or just modifying the mac adresses
I already have this issue when upgrading or changing build. I resolved the problem with Airplane Mode. switch on/switch off. Let us know the result. ^^
I was having the same problem. It wouldnt connect to my home network, but it would connect to every other network. Turns out my router was too old. I recently got a new router and it works fine. Also, when I had my G1, it also wouldnt connect to my home network via wifi, but it does with the new router.

As I wrote before, I tried many different builds with no succes. At the moment I installed MCCM SE V3.4(FroyoStone Sense)[kernel hastarin r8.5]. As I have nothing to save I do everytime clean install on reformated card.

IMHO the router is not the problem even it's a bit outdated - Linksys WRT54GL - as I tried to connect to friend's network, I also created AP from my notebook - with the same result.

The Airplane mode you toggle in WinMo or Android? I tried it in WinMo - no success.
oh yes...
... I know this kind of problem.
Tried so many builds of Froyo. Most wlan-stable was indeed MCCM SE V3.4(FroyoStone Sense)[kernel hastarin r8.5] - with this build I had no wifi drops or hsdpa drops.
From today on I try the MDJ FroYo HD v.4.1[kernel:MDJ S7.3HD]. Most time it holds the connection, but sometimes when waking up from stand-by I have to disconnect and reconnect wifi.
Router: Linksys WRT54G.

Thanks for the answer, unfortunatelly I have nothing to drop as I cannot connect. On the other hand either EDGE and HSDPA works like charm - solid connection.

Into Android my friend
I also had this problem. It's easily solved by loging into your router and setting up the access list (under adv wireless settings on mine). You can add the device in with its specific mac address and by doing this I was instantly able to use wifi.
It's not an issue with mac address filtering. I know this issue because I have the same problem with the wifi router at the office. I can connect without any problem at home but It just won't work at the office.
DHCP server assigns an IP, but if you try to ping any IP outside LAN you'll get network unreachable.
I didn't have time to test a bit more, but I'll try to change the mac address of my wlan in order to test if the problem relies in there. The idea is to assign the same MAC Adress I have on WinMo. This will be very useful also to people with 2 HTC HD2 using the same ROM and Kernel.
BTW, I'm not using MAC Address filtering, this issue has nothing to do with it.
I have the same problem here ..
Please help me buddy!
thank you in advance

I tried this switching in and out of Airplane mode in Android with varying degrees of success. The problem itself seems intermittent for me - sometimes I get a decent amount of time with successful access and sometimes I don't. Similarly a reboot (of Android) may or may not work for me. I am using kernel version 2.6.32.15-gd09adbb gcc version 4.4.0 and is dated Thu Dec 30 19:14:35 CET 2010 for me. I notice I am more inclined to have an issue with Market even than with Firefox. Also it is more of a problem now than with a previous kernel version (but it had problems too if I recall correctly). I upgraded because I am having difficulties with getting the USB link to work under Android (but that problem is still there). It did seem to work well for the first few hours after the upgrade, but since then...
I did notice that under MS WM, the MAC address is quite different to that recorded by my DHCP server (a unix box the other side of my wireless router) for Android. The Android one looked like it was a stock standard number sequence, so fabricated. I wonder where that is set on the phone?
I also noticed that the phone does not have the usual (for Linux) resolv.conf file that often gets configured by the DHCP connection process. Further, entering a host IP in the /etc/hosts file does not necessarily mean that a command like ping will find it every time. Of recent I have not been checking that - I have been using the IP address of my unix box to do ping tests to. The network does (of course) shut down when the phone goes into sleep mode, but does wake up, even responding to a ping from the unix box. Running up Market, though, seems to kill the connection every time now (but a weather update won't).
A further observation: if I get the Wi-Fi network connection to reset itself (straight forward when the lease expires), it is hard to get it to reset itself until after the next lease expiry for some reason.
I did some further tests. I don't have a pipe (|) key on my HTC HD2 that works so the following commands are a little long winded.
localhost / # getprop > /data/tmp/props
localhost / # grep dns /data/tmp/props
[net.change]: [net.dnschange]
[dhccp.eth0.dns1]: [192.168.10.1]
[dhccp.eth0.dns2]: []
[dhccp.eth0.dns3]: []
[dhccp.eth0.dns4]: []
[net.dns1]: [192.168.10.1]
[net.dnschange]: [49]
localhost / #
Now 192.168.10.1 is my (Unix) DNS server.
When I do the following on the phone
localhost / # nslookup 192.168.10.1
(or even localhost / # nslookup cicada or even the fqdn of the server)
and I tail -f /var/tmp/named.log on the server (where I set up logging for queries and resolver categories for this test)
I see no action at all on the server and on the phone I get
localhost / # nslookup 192.168.10.1
Server: 192.168.10.1
Address 1: 192.168.10.1
Name: 192.168.10.1
Address 1: 192.168.10.1
localhost / #
localhost / # nslookup cicada
Server: 192.168.10.1
Address 1: 192.168.10.1
nslookup: can't resolve 'cicada'
localhost / #
and the same for the FQDN.
The DNS server does not even see the request for forward or reverse lookup, strangely enough. But it is seeing the requests from other machines with logs to the reverse lookup from those other machines looking like:
10-Jan-2011 22:21:57.953 queries: info: client 192.168.10.20#38971: query: 1.10.168.192.in-addr.arpa IN PTR +
So, not only does the wi-fi link drop when Market is run, the DNS is behaving strangely to terminal based testing. Further, an update of the weather does not show any traffic in the DNS server log (at least for the logging level I have set up) even though the weather does get updated. It makes me wonder what DNS it is really using.
The other avenue I want to check is DHCP time-out, which I have been keeping an eye on (it does seem to time out and not update, but there are also other issues that suggest the problem is not a time-out one). That will have to be another day at this stage, though.
what channel is the router using for wifi?

Unable to access internet over WiFi for few apps

I am facing a weird issue when using a Wifi connection on my tablet (Karbonn Smart Tab 10)
I can easily connect to the WiFi router at my home and access the internet, but only the Google Play Store App and Facebook App cannot access internet via WiFi.
Using Chrome browser, I can access Play store and every other website but not facebook.com
This issue is only happening in my tablet running on JB and other 2 andriod GB phones at my place work fine using the same WiFi router.
Furthermore, if I use any other WiFi network or 3g connection I do not face the above issue!
I have tried searching across forums and have done the following:
1. Reset the tablet to factory setting 3 times
2. Reset my WiFi router to factory setting
3. Updated the latest firmware for my Dlink wireless DIR300 router
4. Tweaks like enable 11g only setting on my router, removed all levels of protection and kept the wifi unsecure
5. Disabled all firewall options on the router
6. Configured WiFi on the tablet using WPS
7. Installed Firefox and Dolphin browser, but still cannot access facebook
8. Used static ip and also Changed dns to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
None of the above has worked... Can anyone help me pls...
Thanks,
Rahul
Do you have a terminal program installed on your device? Try pinging those sites.

Thanks for the reply!
But last night I keep awake upto 4AM and tried every other thing on my tab and the wifi router.
Finally I managed to resolve the issue!!
I changed the MTU in my WiFi router from 1500 to 1300 and now Playstore and Facebook apps can access internet over wifi.
I never knew what MTU was, but read wikipedia to find out. The max possible MTU is 1500 which was the default setting of my WiFi router.
Pls refer this article on wikipedia with topic as Maximum_transmission_unit (Cant paste the direct link here as the forum doesnt allow new members like me to do so...)

I had the same issue. Thank you:good:

I had the same issue dude. I did device reset for couple of times. Was not sure whether the problem was with the ISP or with my Android OS or with the router. I was so damn frustrated with it. FINALLY it got resolved!!! I literally danced on my feet after it started working.
Thanks again!
Why blame the chinese

Good finding. But why you blame the chinese tabs? It is a very strange fix, MTU is to do with the device (in this case is the router)
Another possible solution
Hi,
Came across this thread whilst looking for a solution to a problem with my wife's tablet (a Samsung). Tablet seemed to access the internet fine in the stock browser but many apps such as Facebook, Google Play etc did not work.
In the end it turned out to be the fact that many apps use SSL (secure https) for their connections and the tablet was rejecting all SSL certificates because the date/time was wrong (specifically the date - 13 years back!).
Setting the correct date fixed the issue so I'm posting the solution here for anyone else who comes across it.

Hi, Thanks for your reply!
I actually figured out what the issue was with my tab. There is a setting in the wi-fi router which is known as MTU (Maximum transmission unit). By default this is set to 1500 in most routers. I reduced it to 1000 and now everything is working fine in my tab. However, I feel my internet gets disconnected frequently after changing the MTU to 1000..

I blame the Chinese tab because only for accessing internet via the tab I had to reduce the MTU to 1000. With the MTU set to 1500 in my router all other devices in my home can connect to the internet without any issues. Problem is with the tab and not with the router.
