There are several Apps on the Play Store for managing (add/delete) contacts on your SIM.

Not a clue. If it's doing it with all your backups then I'd try a reflash.
Do you know where the contacts are stored on the sd card?

dood they're synchronized with Google contacts?

Did you try Google sync? (Go online and check if any of your contacts have numbers listed next to their name... that means your phone synced with Gmail, so you can get all your contacts back. If not, maybe go through the sd card (not sure where they are exactly but google should help)
I tried to look for this problem, but couldn't find anything relevant...
finally got my unlocked nexus 4 in the mail today!
was super excited, cut my existing t-mobile sim card (I'm on a contract with them) and was able to connect to their network.
the problem is that no matter what network i am on (wifi, 4g, 2g) i cannot download any apps from the play store. I click on 'install', it brings up the permissions window, i click on 'accept and download' and it tells me "[app_name] could not be downloaded due to an error. (Error retrieving information from server. [RPC:S-5:AEC-0]."
Also can't update any apps...
I am extremely confused.. has anyone encountered this problem?

Yes. There is an amazing free app called "Vaulty" that does just that. Really good app

You can also use the one i'm using from Playstore Called: Hide pictures - KeepSafe Vault
But isn't it stored in the phone memory? All my videos take up so much space...

Just put an empty file named .nomedia in a folder. No images in that folder will show up in gallery.

What I'm also trying to do is have a back-up on my external SD card without it appearing in the gallery

Go to Settings>Apps> View all apps and find your app in the list. open it and enable it
Tried but its not in there

If it's disabled, it won't be in alphabetical order with your other apps. It will be at the very end of the list.
In the settings menu it is named Contacts.

You sure you froze the app and didn't accidentally deinstalled it?

It's called Contacts.
via xda app

Re-Check, the name might be. Contacts or it may be on the end of the list
If it's not, then try re-installing your rom or you can manually push the apk to /system/app/
thanks for all the help guys ive sorted it now
Same problem with People App

How did you sort it out? I installed Overstock rom on my nexus 4 and after that I am unable to add contact. I cleared data from Settings->Apps-> Contact storage , still no luck.. Can you please explain what steps you took to sort it out.
After backing up all my contacts in my s3, bluetoothed the .vcf file to my N3, arrows in notifications showed that transfer was successful but there was no .vcf file in the bluetooth folder on my internal sd as its supposed to be. Then, i tried emailing and downloading the .vcf file... went fine but after installing all my contacts, there is about at least 2 connections in every contact name. It's a real pain to delete one by one as there's no need for the extra connections...i wonder if this is a bug or feature??
Anyone facing this too??

Why don't you just use Google to back up your contacts... Unlink the contacts
