I'm putting this here since I don't see the issue posted on N7 section. And the different solutions on other sections didn't work for me.
The problem is keyboard crashing with ' unfortunately android keyboard has stopped working' dialog. This was annoying as not only couldn't you use keyboard but also the keyboard kept restarting and crashing. Tried to clear keyboard data from app info screen but no help. Tried uninstalling the last couple apps I had installed but no help.
Finally remembered randomly seeing 'unfortunately dictionary has stopped' dialog sometime in the past week. So went back into settings - apps - all apps, and found "Dictionary Provider" which I promptly disabled. And just like that android keyboard stopped misbehaving.
Why is dictionary provider causing problems? I haven't looked into it just yet as wanted to put this up asap so anyone else with same issue can also stop keyboard crashing since that's top priority in this situation.
My Nexus 7 is at JB 4.1.2 rooted with stock everything.

Thanks for this post, I was having the same problem on my Sprint GSII and this fixed it. Afterwards the dictionary provider app disappeared all together.

I force stopped the "\system settings\apps\Dictionary provider", cleared data. Which seems to have fixed the problem.
THANK YOU!!!

I got my new Galaxy S one month back. I have no problems with any other functionality but Android Market. I can browse apps, but when I click install each get stuck at "Starting download..." screen, and never starts or fails. I had kept it for 3 days and still the same. Market / Google Apps / Download Manager clear cache / data does not help even. Phone restart also does not help.
So far the solution is do a factory reset and lose all current apps, then install 5 to 6 apps again. Then the same story begins. No more apps can be downloaded. Stuck @ "Starting download...".
"Samsung Apps" application works fine.
I also have tried all following firmware and problem persists.

Have you tried removing all apps from the download queue and then turning off wifi and adding them for download over 3g/gprs only?
This used to fix this issue for me.

Try activating Google Talk first and then try to download. I know it sound strange but this may help.

Thanks, but launching google talk does not make any change.
Hey there,
all my downloaded apps keep on dissapearing from the list of installed/downloaded apps inside the market.
Don't get me wrong, they are still on my system and I can use them, just the market thinks they would not be installed.
I am on Virtuous 0.9 and done no restoring of apps or what so ever.
I did a backup a few days ago with Titanium but that can't be the cause, because they keep on dissapearing....
I can go to the market and just install the apps. They will download and install just as normal. And for some time they will just stay in the list of "my apps"...
But at some point (totaly random to me, maybe after some other apps I istalled or so) the list is almost empty... sometimes with one or two entries left of the most recently installed apps.
I know I can reassociate apps with the market with Titanium (well need the donate version...) but I don't know if it helps me, because the list keeps on dissapearing and I don't want to spend money on something that does not help
Does anyone know a solution for this problem? I don't want to reassociate all the time.
(Also tried to open the market database in an sqlite browser... well but failed, is there something to decrypt or anything I have to do in order to open it?)
Well thanks for any advice,

Oh well sorry
Was browsing the false forum, when I desperatly pushed the post button...
Won't happen again.
Okay I typed it, it gave me the message that I am checked in...
Now will the apps stay in my market? Hope it worked but I can't really verify it because it hapens so arbitrary.
Thanks anyway and I hope it's done...
And... well could someone move the post?
It's like a shame

well the android market been acting up recently according to engadget, perhaps thats the problem?
I am having the same problem occasionally. Installing ANY new app seems to solve this for me.
Rather annoying though.
A restart usually solves the problem for me. I dont bother anynore though. As long as my apps are installed on the phone, I couldnt care less if it shows up in myapps or not.
Same issue here...
Just spent a better part of an hour redownloading and installing most of the apps back to wake up this morning to them not there anymore...
I guess my only care would be getting the updates...otherwise doesn't matter.

@ huh28
You may have a different problem if you have to keep downloading and installing applications. When my apps disappear from myapps and i search for them in the marketplace, it always shows installed which prevents me from downloading and installing the app again
Maybe time for a wipe then...:/
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Well I think my problem is the same as huh28's...
And I thought of a wipe as well...
But since my initial post, no app dissapeared. Maybe it was the checkin, maybe it was the markets fault as Beagan mentioned (but I did not encounter other symptoms like the ones at engadged with the android market website).
But if it keeps that way, I'll never now... but well that would be great!
But as an exchange I lost my message-database couple of days ago... that's an other story, but a thought crossed my mind, if it could be related and could have something to do with the sqlite in the background. I'll keep an eye on that, but it's kind of hard to track...
i had the same problem but i went into the recovery and deleted the cache and davlik cache and restarted the phone and all the apps were back again!
maybe that will help you too.
For some reason while I'm using the N7, just browsing various websites or looking at videos, the error notification "unfortunately maps has stopped" pops up.
I searched around for a fix or even other threads about this on the N7 but have not seen any.
I've tried re-installing the Maps application on my N7 but it seems like it can't be uninstalled. I disabled the app and the error message stopped, but when I wanted to use the Map app, I had to enable it, and after use did not disable and noticed the error notification pop up at around the same frequency.. (every other day or so.)
I have not rooted the device, and have only downloaded/installed a handful of apps; am using Apex launcher as an alternative for the lack of landscape view on the home screen. Thanks in advance for any help.
Same problem I'm having. Not rooted, completely stock.

I'm also having this problem with the Nexus 7 and CM10, but good to know it also happens in stock, saves me some trouble.

Have you tried this: Goto Settings > Apps > Maps > Force stop, clear cache, clear data. Then try rebooting your N7.

Have you tried fixing permissions in recovery or through ROM Manager?
I've tried both, and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling maps, it still happens. Yesterday it interrupted me twice while I was playing a game. It's starting to get annoying.
Yes this is also an annoying issue for me.

If you don't *use* maps, and all the attendant programs (like local, navigation, etc) you can always go into your appdrawer, longhold the app and drag it up to App Info. (or go settings>apps>maps) and choose to "disable" the program.
(This *should* be possible stock, not rooted. I may be wrong, I didn't leave my N7 stock very long ;P)
I might have figured it out. Go to maps, settings, location settings, location reporting, select "do not update your location". So far no message this past day or so (crossing fingers).
[edit] Spoke too soon, just got one.
Call Google Apps support.
I had this issue happen to me for the Gmail app, and unfortunately, this was happening on two devices, occured after Factory Resetting two devices, and removing and re-adding the account.
Google might have changed/switched a setting, and it may have affected your ability to access any saved data you have on your account.
Same problem here, maps has stopped. Happend when my N7 was stock, andre now when it is rooted.
FWIW, this has never happened to me again since I installed AOKP some days ago.

what's aokp? i still have this problem on my n7 and it bothered me again today to the point of googling for a solution, and what do you know, my own thread pops up.
AOKP is a custom ROM. Build 2 just came out a couple of days ago and build 3 is on the way. Cyanogenmod 10 may also have fixed this problem but I haven't tried any recent builds. Also, maps was updated very recently, are you on the last version?
Same Here
i have same problem with google maps on my xperia neo after i flashed my last rom.
after a fresh installation. it s runnning but when i restart i have that message "unfortunatly.. app stoped"
this stuff happened to me all the time on my N7, part of the reason i returned it.
note 2 l900 Unfortunately maps has stopped using favorites
No solutions recommended thus far have worked (fix permissions, clear cache, disable download reenable).
Every time I select a favorite or home or work in maps, it crashes andi get that error message. If I select from the history or manually enter, there's no issue.
Rooted stock Android 4.1.1. Version 6.10 maps.
But not the updated version. I hate the maps updated version. It worked fine until about a month ago (give or take).
Why are so many having this issue?

Sorry for not responding with them ... I stopped following the thread when I found out the glory of Waze (and installed Whompasaurus)
i've read somewhere that could be a font size problem, go to settings and configure the smallest font size and try again, to me i didnt worked, but somehow the crash is delayed 1 or 2 seconds more
edit: i fixed it, my solution was to change the language
on android 4.4.2 (paranoid) you go to settings>>language & input>> english (United states)
don't know why i've set it to [ Developer] Accented English (zz_ZZ), that was the problem
another solutions i've read:
clean cache app
turn off phone, remove battery, wait 5 secs, turn on
flash gapps downloaded from your custom rom web
reset gps and agps, you can do this with "gps status" (search on play store)
try with another wifi, or mobile data plan (some people had problems with wep encrypted wifi's)

Changing the language from (zz_ZZ) to english (United states) worked for me thanks man
I was gonna buy a new tab cuz i use map regularly
Running stock 4.2.1, stock kernel.
Cleared cache and dalvik, rebooted back into rom.
Now Google Now force closes. If I clear data on "Google Search" app, and select not to enable Google Now, all is well.
As soon as I try to enable it, it crashes.
Tried fix permissions, didn't work.
Also disabled location settings, and allowed me to open google now.
Next I enabled settings, but only GPS. This worked as well.
Once I had GPS AND wifi, it crashed again.
Tried removing updates, restarting, clearing google framework data, etc.
What am I missing?
can't launch google now
I just started getting the same problem today. I can't launch the Google Search app without it immediately crashing (Unfortunately Google Search has stopped. Report / OK). If I reset data on the app I can launch it again until I turn on Google Now after which it crashes immediately again.
I'm on a stock Nexus 4, boot loader never been unlocked, not rooted, etc. I can't seem to find any other mentions of this problem anywhere.

Anyone else? I've been driving myself nuts trying to fix it!
Thinking of just dirty flashing stock again...
I'm pretty sure it's a server side problem with Google Now data that is causing the app to crash.

What I figured. Now I'm missing my Nexus 7 from the My Devices tab. Somethings going on. Just can't find any news/reports of it.
Yeah, I don't understand why nobody else is encountering this problem.
This thread is the only relevant result in web search.
There are 3 other people encountering the same issue on Google+ but I cannot post links because I just created this account.
Search for "google now crashes" on Google+ and you should see a few others with the same problem but no solutions.
My gs3 started doing fc'ing after I installed a new room. Hope it is something server side because I can't fix it.
Problem seems to have fixed itself.

I noticed today for the first time that, when I'm multitasking on my Fire HD8, a bar appears at the top of the screen saying "Error inflating widget".
I've never seen this before, and it does not show if I hit the multitasking button with no programmes running. I've deleted all the new apps I've installed today (as this error has never appeared until now) and cleared app cache & data files before deleting them.
Since then, I've rebooted my device multiple times but the error bar is still there.
Anyone able to help me remove this bar?
I have the same problem. I used to be able to solve it by uninstalling the Google app and reinstalling it (I've had to do this a lot in the past couple of weeks attempting to get Google Assistant to work) but that trick isn't working anymore and this error notification is driving me up the wall
