[Q] Fille manager on a Mac - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Did a quick search didn't find anything useful.
I'm looking for a file manager for macs other than android file transfer. Android file transfer doesn't access the root folder and I want to move my clockworkmod backups onto my Mac.
I tried using some wireless clients and it just takes forever to move a 3.3gb backup...
Any help would be great
Thanks

Macs are more difficult when it comes to MTP. I do not know of any that allows you to access root folder. I would use something like Root Explorer to transfer the file where your Mac can access it.

[Q] Folder?

Hello, for some reason when I press on the folder it doesn't show any of my files, only a transparent white window. Any advice?
I'm using a SD card.

Can you be a little clearer? What folder, and where is it? Is this through a file explorer, or a folder on your home page?
Just give us more to go on

I don't know how to acces the media on my SD.
Pressing on folder shows a white transparent window.
What application are you trying to access it with? Talk me through from the beginning so I can see if I can help.

I have no idea, I just need to find the media that are on my SD.
Windows mobile had file explorer, does the latest NAND have it?
I've got no idea how to access it..
There are plenty of file explorers available from the market. You just need to search on there.
I personally use Root Explorer as it allows you to modify/copy/paste system files.
The folder you are probably trying to access is simply a virtual folder you have created on your android desktop. To use it you need to drag icons to it to organise stuff into groups etc.
What you should be doing to access your SD card is using an actual file explorer/manager app like the one described above. I personally use ASTRO File Manager though.
PS. Next time you ask for help please be more descriptive of your issue/problem.

How to modify root files?

I am a new user of Android. I have a HTC HD2 with OS Android 2.3.2. I need a program to be that the Memory card copied files in the root\system. Tried with some programs, but we failed. What should I do?
Sorry on my English is very bad.
use root explorer
where to find this program? I tried to knock the marketplace root Explorer but under that name, no software, there are some trugi but when I try to copy files I get a message "An error occurred on copy\move". I do not know what the problem is?
+1 for root explorer. It's paid app, but it's really worth the money.
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
root Explorer to my marketplace does not exist.
You could also use DroidExplorer which lets you use your computer to copy/paste/modify the files on your HTC Android phone. Use Google search for DroidExplorer and download the program onto your computer. Then you should be able to change or move any file from your computer, SD card onto the phone. Just make sure to do any changes, save to computer, then copy/paste onto the phone to overwrite the original file.
DroidExplorer not working on my computers. : (
I found the root ekplorer.apk on google and I installed it and now everything works great. Thank you all for your help )

Copy files from android phone?

Has anyone been able to transfer files from an android phone to the a500? I have been able to copy from a thumb drive, but have not had any luck with my rooted Samsung captivate running mosaic rom
Try samba filesharing on market
File expert lets you isolate any installed app (under apps tab top right) in to a folder called 'backup'.
From there you can bluetooth the app to your iconia or drop it onto pc via file expert then use same on iconia to load it onto it.
Hope helps.
My trick is copying via Bluetooth. Before copying rename extension of file to ".txt". I think that all Androids knows this extension, so transfer is not stopped. After copying rename file on both devices to previous name.
Hope helps.
Or use such shared network resource - NAS, email, web services and so on. But first option works on new Android without anything else.
I've copied using nas or pc, but I'm out of town and away from my pc. For some reason I didn't think of using bluetooth. Won't be as fast as the usb, but I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the suggestions.

It's in root folder "/mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod" for me.
not there either for me....shell folder is empty
/data/media
On my 8gb it is in the shell folder. Some root browsers won't see anything in that folder for some reason. Esfile explorer with root privileges wouldn't see it but root explorer would. I used the nexus 4 tool kit to adb pull the backup from the shell folder and onto my PC. Again using the toolkit to push it back onto the phone

Does anyone know how to get to root directory from the comp?
a. Try this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1999214
b Simply use a root explorer and cut the clockworkmod folder from "/data/media" into "/data/media/0", then the PC will see it. You will need to cut it back to /data/media if you want to Clockworkmod Recovery to see it though.
c. Copy it using ADB by typing: adb pull /data/media/clockworkmod "C:\clockworkmod"

You can't - you'll need to move it from the CWM folder to somewhere a PC can see it and then copy it off from there...ball ache, I know, but it's the only way I've done it since moving to 4.2
damn, it was so much easier on my sg2. internal sd, such a pain in the....

Is there an alternative to AFT

I love the nexus 4 but the fact that my mac can't see it is really annoting. I could easily connect my GS2 like a pendrive and transfer files and also rearrange stuff. Now, I've searched around the web and found the 'Android File Transfer' app that allows me to copy files back and forth from my mac. I would be totally fine with this if only it allowed me to move files from on folder to another with my nexus. This is a ridiculously basic feature that is missing. i.e. say I copy a bunch of songs to the wrong folder on my phone, AFT doesn't allow me to just drag those files over to another folder on my phone. I now need to delete all those files and recopy them onto the correct folder. This is unacceptable so I'd like to know if theres a good alternative to AFT or am I missing something?
FYI: Im on 4.3 and not rooted
BUMP!
Some info I've found online suggests that running gvfs and Nautilus from MacPorts works well with MTP. I've had success with Nautilus in Linux but have not used Mac OS.
If your only issue is not being able to move the files to a different folder after they've been transferred, have you considered just using an Android file manager app to move the files once they're on your device?
