Hi!
If I remember right, there was a problem with Chainfire 3D under Jelly Bean OS that resulted in soft bricking the phone. Has this issue been fixed yet? If not, is it possible to install ICS 4.0.4 somehow on Nexus 4 (Chainfire 3D works with ICS) ?

Not to be snarky, but you can. It's called a hackintosh.
To answer the OP's question, seeing as how the app hasn't been updated in a while, I wouldn't risk it. Also, the nexus 4 will never see ICS. It just won't work. It's like trying to forward-port iOS 3.1.3 to the iPhone 5. The OS was never meant to run on that hardware, and the drivers are not compatible.

Looks like we have to wait when chainfire3d will be updated to work with JB.

Chainfire 3d?
Haven't been updated since 3 oct 2011.
So don't wait for it, he has stopped this project.

Quick question, which kernels are you fellow XDA users insaling on the N7 with the stock android? That gives you best performance and battery life? Also which 4.2.1 Roms do you prefer? I just got my N7 so i didn;t have time to test everything. I'd like to get a popular opinion on this :victory:

You can use trickster mod (available in the play store) to tweak the kernel. TapaTalk HD is currently in beta. You can dpfindnit on the tapatalk forums.

I've rooted and flashed to a custom kernel on 4.2. Will it be the same process (flash to stock before updating from 4.1.2 to 4.2) if I want to upgrade to 4.2.1?

Yep, it will be the same process! Just make sure you have custom recovery.
I'm loving Stock 4.2.1 with M-Kernel running 51Mhz-1500Mhz, with GPU max 660 with zRAM, and smart dimmer.
Great battery life and very smooth.
I have used trinity, Franco and there isn't much to compare.

All games I play run fairly smooth but then none are that demanding to start with.

Hi all,
I wanted to know if there was a hybrid AOKP, CM10.1 and Paranoid Android rom for Nexus 7 like PAC or Jelly Bam for Samsung Galaxy S3 ?
I have already made a lot of research but I don't find anything so if someone can help me, thank you in advance
Sorry for my bad English, I'm french ^^'
Currently, only individual roms
I think I seen one somewhere. Don't get your hopes up though cuz I could be wrong. Just look around and you may get lucky. Lol

Probably not anytime soon. Those roms are based on 4.1.2. Since then, PA has changed from a cm base to aosp. Additionally, PA is in beta, and experiences frequent updates.

My point is ..... No time soon. And I doubt if we will see any more PAC ROMs since PA changed to ASOP based. In fact, JellyBAM has already dropped PA from their newer builds.

Doesn't work, because Firefox OS is ICS based, and the Nexus 4 was shipped with Android 4.2. Too bad!
The FFOS is ICS based, this is true, but there is an update making it 4.x compatible as well. Gonna take a look... Def want that on this Nexus 4

Any progress on this? I am a little overwhelmed when looking at building as OS, trying to learn though. If I could I would build this for my N4 for sure.

Me, just now.
Was unhappy with the scrolling (stuttery & laggy - to me it seemed like the touch sensor was being polled less because while your finger was touching & moving, the screen scroll stuttered, when released, it continued its scrolling smoothly)
Also, WiFi was sometimes not reconnecting - had to either reboot or forget / re-join.
also had an issue with the camera flash failing to operate after 3 or 4 photos.
I was beginning to think I was imagining my N4 was nice an smooth - but I got so annoyed with 4.3 I unlocked & flashed 4.2.2 factory image. IT Is DEFINITELY smoother.
Screen stutter/lag can be rendered by checking "hardware overlays" in dev options

I've flashed a couple of 4.3 ROMs starting with stock but keep going back to LiquidSmooth v 2.9. I don't see any degradation in performance with 4.3, I have been getting better battery life from LiquidSmooth.
There were a couple of apps that I use that were not performing well with 4.3. I decided to flash back to cm because of this. It was mainly Swype that was driving me crazy. I'm unsure if it was the fault of Swype not being updated for 4.3 or if it was the screen polling of 4.3 everyone is talking about.

I don't see hardware overlays. Do you mean "disable HW overlay " or "force GPU rendering" ?
These were default (I.e not disabled and not forced)
Im not sure these would help?!?!
I tried 4.3 two times, but after a few hours I reverted back to CM10.1 :silly:
I'll wait for good and stable custom kernels, and for good custom ROM's.
It's me. I expect 4.3 very much. I update to stock 4.3, Titanium can't remove system app. So I tried to use PA rom, version 3.91, while I'm download PA rom, I detect a new version of PA, version 3.92. I'm very suprise with PA group speed, they're provide rom patchs continuous. And I had to download from beginning. After that, I install new rom with a big expectation but titanium still can't remove system app. Finally I had to restore to PA 3.69 by TWRP and wait a new rom version :crying:
Tried a custom CyanogenMod 4.3 Build, but I prefer to stay with the "current" nightlies right now.
Theres a reason why they didnt start rolling out nightlies already.
A question, where did you get the CM build? Is it from the team itself or was it made by someone else?
4.3, same on the outside, fubar on the inside.
My fears about the head honcho of android chrome being made head of the whole OS have come to bare.
If it wasn't for the fact that 4.3 fixed the double dial issue for us Solavei users id go back to CM 10.1.2 (4.2.2)

Has anyone tried Ubuntu on new nexus 7?
like this
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Nexus7/Installation
That's for the first gen nexus 7 right? I've actually wanted to try it but don't want to be the first to mess with that until I got a confirmation that it works on 2nd gen tab. Because i would like to run Ubuntu on it to work on my programming on the go without having to carry my laptop.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
We'll still just support the old Nexus 7 for now, as we first need to
start the port for the latest device. It should work, but the main
problem is that the device is based on Android 4.3 by default, so it
requires us to make our layer compatible with that as well (at least
the 4.3 based binaries).
Don't have the device, so can't give more details, but don't see why
not (we would at least have the same possibility to distribute
binaries, so we could also produce such a build once the port is
done).
Cheers,
