Use it. What's the point of having a smartphone if you turn all of its features off?
Besides, the battery drain isn't too bad with GNow (Siri is definitely worse XD)

It drains your battery quick!

All the time, but not for looking things up. I use it to set alarms and call people.

Not true. Last Friday I accidentally left my phone in my office, and it stayed there for the entire weekend with wifi on and connected to the internet. When I went back to work on Monday, it still had 4% battery left. That's a standby time of 63.5 hrs (I left office at 5.30 and returned at 9). In addition, my office is in a rural area, so cellphone signal strength is horrendous.

Google Now is awesome, I use it all the time! Also due to the nature of the app, you don't even have to remember to use it, it does things for you,

I disable google's anti-privacy features (I disable search history and don't log in to the web browser on my phone). So it does me absolutely no good because it can't predict what's going on in my life. Flight reservations aren't even delivered to my gmail inbox. (They go somewhere dedicated so I know which companies let spammers get my e-mail address. I'm looking at you, Dropbox!)
Google Now can't even correctly predict what time I leave work, and transit time rarely varies where I live. It short, it's neat but absolutely useless as far as I can tell. I'm disabling it right now. Maybe I'll turn it on again while traveling, but it didn't really help me at all while traveling--just showed me things I already had a better app for, like the current time back home.

Well I'm normally leave mine on but I believe I'm going to turn it off and see how well it does for a day or 2.

Saving battery when not in use?

So I have a Nexus 7 and an S3, the former becoming recently rather redundant as I got the new iPad (was tired of lack of optimised tablet apps). I still, however, love the form factor when reading and this I do relatively frequently, maybe 3-4 times a week.
The form factor is also useful when I just want to pop out for a bit and feel like taking it with me, whereas the static iPad I tend to keep either at home or take to university with me.
The only issue is due to me using the nexus less, i am less aware of how much charge it holds. And the standby battery is terrible compared to the iPad, which I can honestly say would last about a month if I wasn't using it.
Is there anything I can do to my tablet to maybe tone down the CPU when not in use or maybe disable internet connection when not in use, as I'm sure these two things may be affecting the battery when it shouldn't.
I don't need my tablet to constantly be up to date the second I turn it on I wouldn't mind if it took a minute or so to show me new updates / emails e.t.c.
Thanks!
Keep WiFi and sync off. I don't keep WiFi or sync on (my g'nex keeps me up to date) and my standby battery is good. Never left it sitting for a full day but over 12 hours I only lose 2-3%.

used power toggles to turn sync off, but out of curiosity where is the normal menu option for it?
cheers for that, 5% a day is absolutely fine!
They made this one hard to find. Settings > Data usage > Menu options (3 vertical dots in upper right) > Auto-sync data (put check mark). It's really a pain. I use Notification Toggle to have an option to toggle it from my notifications pull-down shade.
just turn it off if your not using it or set your tablet to sleep mode
If your device is rooted use set CPU and use profiles so you can make you processor only do like 50mhz when the device is on sleep

I wouldn't be using any of these battery saving apps as most cause more battery drainage than they save.
BetterBatteryStats is the only app you need, free on XDA but support the developer by buying it on Google Play it really is a great app for the small price, and will identify the main battery hogs without using hardly any itself

Google Services Battery Drain

Today I noticed that Google Services is draining battery by using some services but unlike before it is using it a lot.
Did any one experience this strange issue?

I'm pretty sure that's one of the ways we can take in order to save a bit more battery, but then again, why are we buying high-end devices with GPS tracking for whatever apps or security as I have (cerberus app) or real-time mails of work, social feed, etc.
Someone will say that they don't need instant mails on the device or don't want the GPS; point is, having GPS/push notifications should not be an issue for any user since those are the features we can, want, could use..
Only thing I really miss on blackberry devices...
This did not happen before which makes it strange, well at least not having that much percentage.

Just to update on this. I done some reading online and found a few people mentioned that it was the latest play store update causing the battery drain. I went ino the app manager and deleted the update an went back to the original playstore apk that came with the rom.THis seems to have reduced my google services drain and my phone is lasting longer now

[Q] Use n7 as home phone

I plan on using my n7 as my home phone, i will also attach a speaker to it so that it is loud enough to be heard throughout my home.
I have a question to anyone that uses their n7 heavily throughout the day, have u run into any issues by leaving your n7 powered on for more than 6-8 hours? like i said i plan on using it as my home phone, and it will be powered on for a long period of time and, it will mostly be on stand by. screen off with wifi on and talkatone in the background awaiting any important phone calls.
any positive inputs would be appreciated
I leave my n7 on all the time with the Wi-Fi and GPS radios always on and have hardly any issues.
If l realize that I have not rebooted it in several days, I'll reboot it - though I honestly don't remember ever needing to reboot it other than when messing with the recovery, or installing a kernel.
While it's setting there with the screen off with Wi-Fi and GPS on it seems to only use 1 to maybe 2 percent of the battery per hour.

Mine was and at first I blamed the case. But it does it with every case. So i was thinking of returning it. But then I got this email from Poetic(i had slammed them on Amazon with a one star rating). It said:
We would also like to inform you that if you face any issue regarding wake up function mostly when you open the case we request you to please check your WIFI Connection (to make sure you are successfully connected to WIFI). If your WIFI connection is disabled or not connected to WIFI Successfully, then your device won’t wake up all the times. This is not the issue of the case itself.

I tried turning my WIFI on and connecting, but it did not help. Then I tried with it off. Same problem. Now I am thinking I really need to return this thing, only to find out my friends does the same exact thing. So what the hell? Are they all doing this? Most? Only a few? I really do not want to return if all of them are gonna do it, and it would seem a software issue in that case. But if mines got hardware problems I really should return it.
My case has been working fine.

Hate to say it but if you are on stock, I think the device crashes and does not power on with the cover anymore. I had that issue when I was on stock.
I've since moved to CM10.2 nightlies and the cover turns on the device every single time. No issues here.
Also, with CM10.2, no more random reboots. You owe it to yourself to get off of stock.
There definitely is an issue with having wifi on and no access point around w/r/t magnetic on
I've seen this on a couple of units
Here are the symptoms with my cover:
* It never fails to put my tab to sleep.
* With wifi off, it rarely wakes up my tab. With wifi on, it wakes up the tab quite often... unless the Tab went to a deep sleep.
* When plugged in (PC or charger), it works beautifully, wifi on or off.
So it's hard to point the finger to Poetic.
There are plenty of people who don't have any issue.
I have replacement coming from the Amazon seller, so will see.
Open your case and WAIT...
so far mine always turns on... BUT it may be delayed by 10-15 seconds.
(by that time most of us have closed/re-opened the case a few times).
Mine works like a charm, I cycle through every Locket ad in like 30 seconds using my cover lol
Mine fails perhaps 20% of the time. It can't be a cover issue though, because the cover is constant.
Just tested my Moko ultra slim case on CM kanged and it turns on and off like a champ. Quick and no delay. No reboots either. So for me it was a software issue.
For you, flash CM and see if it is. If you still have the problem on CM then exchange it.

Mine works fine with CM10.2 as long as WiFi is always on. If WiFi is set to turn off when sleeping it will not turn on after 15-20 minutes.

I posted about this same issue here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44926734
Sometimes it will wake up after a delay (20-30 seconds) and sometimes it will just sit there until I press the power button. My first gen N7 never had this problem. I really don't want to let my WiFi run 24/7 just so my tablet will wake up.

WiFi seems to use very little power. I average about 10 hours of screen on time per charge.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
I'm using the MoKo case and do not have any problems with the case not waking the device when opened. I must say though I did not purchase the case for this feature. The case construction is good, it fits the device perfectly and looks.well in place, and provides protection for the screen. For those reasons I am satisfied with it.
Just got a poetic replacement case, no improvement.
But (at this point) I think it's a tablet issue. If google knows they will fix it later, just like some people having multi-touch issue.
Even with my WiFi off, on CM, its perfect. Tested with WiFi off, even waited like 5 minutes and tested again with no issues. Probably a rom issue. Is this on stock with the latest version?

Mine is stock rooted, latest version, with a Moko case. If it sits idle for more than a few minutes, it will rarely turn on when the cover is opened. With short idle times, it will wake consistently. I may try CM eventually but, for now, I think I may just flash the Bulletproof kernel and enable the double tap to wake feature.

Less than 5 hours on a full charge?!

I know I'm a heavy phone user, but how are people saying they get 9+ hours of constant use, like watching videos, and I'm getting half that from texting, using Hangouts, and a couple social networking apps? My screen uses between 45-50% of that and the rest is apps, primarily the ones I use most.

My wifi always shows it's connected as a solid blue line, but I've been on LTE all day.
Might be a rogue app running in the background or something? I use the Active Apps widget and randomly end programs from time to time while clearing up the RAM as well. Hopefully it's just a rogue app or bad battery?

You're definitely not getting what you should. Look at my stats, a lot of wifi but also not as much held awake time on my phone considering what I have as Battery time. Take a look around there's things you can disable like bloatware that may be holding your phone from sleeping. Also see if you can reconfigure that one app, maybe it updates to often. I don't usually have any app drain more then kernel and the android system.
Or its your battery if you've done all that.

I was having that same problem when first got my phone. I'm pretty sure it was the new themer application it, worked fine until I uninstalled it, then my battery constantly needed to be charged. To originally fix it I backed up and factory reset it then it seemed to be working fine but now that I'm rooted I have been using greenify and it works like a dream. It tells you in better detail what's draining your battery and what wakes it up in your background as it tries to sleep. Now I get about 22 hours with pretty regular usage
With 56 minutes on screen time, I should get close to ten hours... you must have an app that is killing your battery or that uses data alot

Here is how mine is looking today so far, I would say my Note 3 outlasts my other phones no problem.. biggest offenders I noticed that wrecked mine was Google Settings>Location Reporting turned that off, and when I dont need it turn everything off in Settings>Location Reporting.. when I go out or want to use Google Now I turn it on .. I greenified a lot of the stupid apps like My Magazine or disabled them outright
