Mine was and at first I blamed the case. But it does it with every case. So i was thinking of returning it. But then I got this email from Poetic(i had slammed them on Amazon with a one star rating). It said:
We would also like to inform you that if you face any issue regarding wake up function mostly when you open the case we request you to please check your WIFI Connection (to make sure you are successfully connected to WIFI). If your WIFI connection is disabled or not connected to WIFI Successfully, then your device won’t wake up all the times. This is not the issue of the case itself.

I tried turning my WIFI on and connecting, but it did not help. Then I tried with it off. Same problem. Now I am thinking I really need to return this thing, only to find out my friends does the same exact thing. So what the hell? Are they all doing this? Most? Only a few? I really do not want to return if all of them are gonna do it, and it would seem a software issue in that case. But if mines got hardware problems I really should return it.
My case has been working fine.

Hate to say it but if you are on stock, I think the device crashes and does not power on with the cover anymore. I had that issue when I was on stock.
I've since moved to CM10.2 nightlies and the cover turns on the device every single time. No issues here.
Also, with CM10.2, no more random reboots. You owe it to yourself to get off of stock.
There definitely is an issue with having wifi on and no access point around w/r/t magnetic on
I've seen this on a couple of units
Here are the symptoms with my cover:
* It never fails to put my tab to sleep.
* With wifi off, it rarely wakes up my tab. With wifi on, it wakes up the tab quite often... unless the Tab went to a deep sleep.
* When plugged in (PC or charger), it works beautifully, wifi on or off.
So it's hard to point the finger to Poetic.
There are plenty of people who don't have any issue.
I have replacement coming from the Amazon seller, so will see.
Open your case and WAIT...
so far mine always turns on... BUT it may be delayed by 10-15 seconds.
(by that time most of us have closed/re-opened the case a few times).
Mine works like a charm, I cycle through every Locket ad in like 30 seconds using my cover lol
Mine fails perhaps 20% of the time. It can't be a cover issue though, because the cover is constant.
Just tested my Moko ultra slim case on CM kanged and it turns on and off like a champ. Quick and no delay. No reboots either. So for me it was a software issue.
For you, flash CM and see if it is. If you still have the problem on CM then exchange it.

Mine works fine with CM10.2 as long as WiFi is always on. If WiFi is set to turn off when sleeping it will not turn on after 15-20 minutes.

I posted about this same issue here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44926734
Sometimes it will wake up after a delay (20-30 seconds) and sometimes it will just sit there until I press the power button. My first gen N7 never had this problem. I really don't want to let my WiFi run 24/7 just so my tablet will wake up.

WiFi seems to use very little power. I average about 10 hours of screen on time per charge.

I'm using the MoKo case and do not have any problems with the case not waking the device when opened. I must say though I did not purchase the case for this feature. The case construction is good, it fits the device perfectly and looks.well in place, and provides protection for the screen. For those reasons I am satisfied with it.
Just got a poetic replacement case, no improvement.
But (at this point) I think it's a tablet issue. If google knows they will fix it later, just like some people having multi-touch issue.
Even with my WiFi off, on CM, its perfect. Tested with WiFi off, even waited like 5 minutes and tested again with no issues. Probably a rom issue. Is this on stock with the latest version?

Mine is stock rooted, latest version, with a Moko case. If it sits idle for more than a few minutes, it will rarely turn on when the cover is opened. With short idle times, it will wake consistently. I may try CM eventually but, for now, I think I may just flash the Bulletproof kernel and enable the double tap to wake feature.

For anyone having this issue, I found a thread on the Google product forums about this. That's apparently how they became aware of the other issues that have been reported. Hi, I picked up a new 7" Tab 2 a few weeks ago, and it seems to randomly do an automatic shutdown if i haven't used it for a while. Sometimes when picking it up after putting it down overnight, or after I've left it home, the tablet is off, not just asleep. It also doesn't seem to matter if it is plugged in to power or not. Is this normal behavior, or is there a problem?
I would say it's a problem. I've left mine for several days on and off the charger and it never shuts down. Are you stock?

Completely stock.
It could be a problem but, I've seen some tablets that have a setting to switch off after a certain amount of time. Check all your setting see if there's anything either ticked or highlighted by radio button to switch tab off
I have same problem one week ago, tablets restarts in my pocket two or more times in a day, since I installed cyanogen mod firmware al is ok, I was thinkin that may be an app is that make restart, not a hardware problem

Its software on your tab. Trust me lol. Wiping or getting another rom will probably fix it.
So... I cannot turn on my Asus tf101 unless I plug it in to a power source, once the screen lights up I can unplug it immediately and it functions normally when turned on. I bought this device refurbished from best buy a few months back, I dealt with the issue but now am looking to sell it. Any ideas on how to fix this? I have never rooted the device, however I have tried factory resets and cold boots.

Are you holding the pwr button long enough. If so,it sounds like the switch is bad.
I hold the power button for 12 seconds and try it with different variation holding volume keys. It functions fine when the device is powered on.

It could be a bad battery or your charger is only giving enough to power the device on. I would try a new charger first.

Do you have the keyboard docking station for it?
Are you on custom ROM or OEM?
What "app killers" are you running?
Some custom ROM's have had similar issues a long while back. maybe yours is getting that issue IF your running custom.
Keyboard dock, if you have it, does it do the same thing for powering on, where it needs to be plugged in to start the screen?
I only ask about the app killers because I had experienced a similar issue about a year ago due to an app killer I had installed. Removed it, and the phone worked fine. Put it back on and it reverted back to having to be plugged in to start the screen.
Have you tried a clean wipe of everything on the tablet? And I do mean CLEAN, no dirty flashes here (keep your pants on bud).
Lastly have you given the charge port a good ole blow out lately? Long bursts aren't really going to do any damage, but I would stick to short quick bursts of compressed gas, again NO VACUUM CLEANERS. They create static and the charge port is quite susceptible to static discharge.
I know your pretty intelligent, but let me put it out there again. DON'T be a fool and use alcohol on your tool.
This post made me laugh. I do not have the keyboard docking station. I have never installed any task killers as I do not believe in them. The tablet has been running the stock ROM the whole time and has never been tampered with.

But you never said if you gave the ole girl a good ole cleaning in the slot.
I would venture to say that you need to send it in to Asus or take it back to Best Buy (if your able to). It sounds like there may be a voltage issue with the digitizer or the inverter.
And NEVER EVER EVER Invert your digits while cleaning out the slot.
You also didn't say if you went deep up in the ole girl and gave her a good rootin.

Please keep us posted as I am curious to know how ASUS customer service is to deal with.
Well, I am trying to send my TF to Asus to fix the problem and they are a bit annoying. I have just dealt with HTC before and that was wonderful, but here they have send me 4 emails asking me to wipe, to update and to do everything that I have already done, and after that they have sent me to another web to fill another questionary. With HTC I just had to told them the IMEI and in 4 days I had my phone back
I had similar issue with mine. It was one of the reason I took back to best buy and used the buy back.
I then picked up the Nexus 7.

I had a similar issue, do you use your device often ?
I figured out after a couple of months that each time it showed this behaviour the battery was in fact empty and it was in fact the root of the problem.
My transformer take much longer time to boot when plugged even with a full battery, and when it's empty it doesn't boot at all.
I must plug it, wait for it to be enough charged to boot unplugged, and do so. Then plug it back when started.
Considering that the transformer on stock cannot shut off when plugged to its keyboard (or even to USB ? Or is it just mine ? When I shut it off plugged to the keyboard then close it, it boot on again) When the tablet is left for several days unused the battery will be empty.

Do the power and volume buttons work normally once fully booted? I have had similar issues, one was improperly seated power button, the other was a loose ribbon cable way down in the guts of this beast. Also, was this happening the whole time you've had it , or after a firmware update?
Right now I'm dealing with one that the screen won't stay on once I get into ics unless I'm plugged in. I went in and noticed that if the auto brightness wasn't set, it works. So I tweaked the settings in display time off when unplugged and uninstalled some screensaver app, and now it's working fine. It was probably the first thing, even though was already set to one minute. Anyway, just letting people know sometimes it isn't hardware. But the op probably is since he's done factory reset.

I would first make an intellectually dishonest analogy. Totally.
Seriously, this takes the prize for the most unrealistic and unreasonable complaint of the month. The audacity of a consumer electronics device taking a mind-numbing 30 seconds to boot into the operating system. It should be as instantaneous as simply applying 12vdc to a starter motor despite the fact that booting an operating system is nothing like starting a car.

30 second boot time is normal. Mine has always booted in 30 seconds and I don't have a lot of apps on there, and the device itself is extremely quick.
It's only 30 seconds. Find something valid to complain about.
Also if your routers reception is poor, it's not the tablets fault. Mine doesn't get a good signal from my bedroom because my router is in the living room. One thing I don't do about this situation is come to XDA and complain about it. Why? Because I am not 12 years old.
Why not stop acting like an 8 year old princess. Life will be better.

Maybe your unit is defective, or maybe you should stop thinking everything is perfect, you choose.

Try changing the channel on your router, that helped me with dropped signals(just don't turn off the tablet and then you don't have to worry about the 30 seconds)

I've noticed now more than a few times my phone was off when I thought it was asleep. I'm running stock 4.2.2 unrooted. Basically I put my phone down and when I come down to it the only way I can wake it up is to hold the power button. What bug is this
? I haven't ran anything odd ? And I notice my battery gets cut by a good chunk . is this something I should get it exchanged at at the store? I just got this phone less than 2 weeks ago? I'm planning on going today but wanted your guys input before i go?

I am having the same problem, i have had my nexus 4 for about 6 months now. Last week it started shutting down and restarting randomly.
The battery dies when it reaches 20%, today it dropped from 54% to 6% after it restarted alone and lost my wallpaper.
If u find a solution let me know.
thats called "sod" sleep of death. its not actually powered off, its on but the screen doesnt wake. thats why you need to longpress the power button to reboot. it was aajor issue on the gnex until 4.2 came out. now its rare, but still happens. on the n4 too. its an android bug that was "fixed" for most.
how can we solve it?
google needs to fix it.
some people use this app as a temporary fix https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gejos.android.wakemyandroid

I plan on using my n7 as my home phone, i will also attach a speaker to it so that it is loud enough to be heard throughout my home.
I have a question to anyone that uses their n7 heavily throughout the day, have u run into any issues by leaving your n7 powered on for more than 6-8 hours? like i said i plan on using it as my home phone, and it will be powered on for a long period of time and, it will mostly be on stand by. screen off with wifi on and talkatone in the background awaiting any important phone calls.
any positive inputs would be appreciated
I leave my n7 on all the time with the Wi-Fi and GPS radios always on and have hardly any issues.
If l realize that I have not rebooted it in several days, I'll reboot it - though I honestly don't remember ever needing to reboot it other than when messing with the recovery, or installing a kernel.
While it's setting there with the screen off with Wi-Fi and GPS on it seems to only use 1 to maybe 2 percent of the battery per hour.
