[Q] New to Mod - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've never installed any Mods to my phone before and am wondering where to find a more beginner friendly tutorial for
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1710871
I don't know how to do the config stuff.
I'm trying to install the silent camera mod:
http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...disables-shutter-sound-for-android-4-devices/
When installing I got an error "E:signature verification failed Installation aborted."
I found this tutorial about installing a Mod Manager
http://theunlockr.com/2013/01/09/how-to-disable-shutter-sound-on-your-android-device/
I got the same error when trying to install that.
I'm pretty much lost at this point.
Does anyone know how to install the silent camera mod?

First off, that tells me the package you tried to install is not signed correctly. Also, it only seems that this works on custom ROMs.

Why a mod for silent camera? Just disable shutter tone in settings, and you have a silent camera.

z4root

Does anyone know if z4root is compatible with the Epic 4G? If so is it as good/as safe as the 1-click root method?
Why not just 1-click root it ?

I did use one-click root personally, but I've had other users on another forum ask if they could use this as they wanted to root without using a computer. And I'm always open to another root option - just wanted to get the developers' opinions on it.

Haven't tried. You can be the first to do so but I don't see why not

I just used it on my epic running stock eclair...works great, since all other forms of rooting failed for me. A+++

Just make sure your have debugging on, aswell as switching to stock launcher--if using launcher pro or adw etc.

I literally just used it 2b minutes ago to root from stock and its was quick. Took me about 7 minutes to root and reboot.

Strange, I just tried it on my stock Eclair too but didn't work, it got stuck "running the exploit". It changed once to "saving file" but it returned to the previous state and just hung there. I forced rebooted my phone (aka take the battery out) and tried it again, no luck for me in the end.....

I used z4ROOT to uninstall root on my 2.1 stock rom.
works instantly quick.
Easy, worked like a charm.
root and unroot on stock epic worked fine!
Need a little help here so I don't screw up.
installed ROM manager - download clockworkmod 2.5.1.0
tried to backup Current Rom
goes to Backup Name Window with date.time
click ok
phone goes to Install from package
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
e:failed to verify whole-file signature
e:signature verification failed
Installation aborted:
I use the select reboot option, reboot and back to where I started.
What am I missing?
Thanks in advance for an assist.

Rom manager will not work on the stock kernel on the epic- I wish that Rom manager included that in the support notes- you need a custom kernel - your best bet is to install noobnl clockworkmod
Thanks for the tip. Off to try noobnl clockworkmod.

I have tried EVERYTHING to get into ClockworkMod with no luck. At first I tried rom manager and when I found out it wouldn't work I uninstalled it and downloaded tried to use one click and the 3 finger method and no green :-( I'm positive I'm rooted because z4 said I'm rooted, I can take screen shots, I have setcpu, I have titanium backup, root explorer, you get the point and the are all running without problems. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong? I am the first to admit I'm a total "noob" as you all call it when it comes to anything involving technology but I want to try and theme. I also had previously tried one click root on both my windows pc and my pc running linux. I'm sure I'm just missing something obvious lol.
PS yes I have superuser and it grants permission when running root apps also I sucessfully installed busybox if that matters...I'm just dirt duh der I'm sure
I already backed everything and returned my phone to stock again and that didn't help. It gives me the same message at boot up as the poster above if it matters

I had this problem as well. I ended up having to download and use the super one click root method that has clockworkmod recovery built in. make sure you have the sdk installed and place the unzipped one click folder in the tools folder of the sdk. Also download the correct drivers for your computer. I originally rooted with z4root and was in the same boat as you, you can check out the thread I started to get the answer just search ( can I flash froyo beta with out root or clock work???) Shouldn't be to hard to find. Good luck. If you need any help pm me.

Thank You
I gave up. I just wanted to get better battery life and have more options for customizing but it isn't looking hopeful at this point. Both of my desktops and my laptop had some issue causing me not to be able to install ClockworkMod. I am not computer savey and for sanity reasons I said **** it.
I'm sure ill get a hair when I'm not fed up...
Is it normal that when my phone is in usb dubugging that it pops up an error and won't allow me to connect my usb to a computer? Its a new thing. Everything is backed up on 2 different computers so I think I'm going to try and return my Epic to stock. Maybe that will help, maybe not
Thanks again for trying to help

Did you download the drivers with the one click root?

Sprint mandatory voice mail update not working?

Every time I try to do it the install fails and I can't get rid of my notice! So annoying. Anyone else having problems?
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Is this on a custom rom or stock? Did you change the digital signature of the Sprint_VVM.apk?
1) Root your phone.
2) Use a custom ROM.
3) Switch to Google Voice for voicemail.
4) ???
5) PROFIT!

Not helpful.
Getting same thing on ROOTED phone. Can get rid of notice by force stopping it. Does come back after getting text it seems. Just gotta deal with it atm.

Same here... Rooted, custom rom. Any updates?
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Flash the attached zip from recovery, and you should have the latest version of Sprint VVM installed.
This didn't work for me. I am running Baked Snack 1.9.
The .zip looked like it installed thru recovery, but I still get the annoying update message, and then the 'not installed' message when it tries to update.
Any other ideas?
Thanx,
Ron

[Q] Trying to backup ROM with ClockworkMod

So I just installed ROM manager and I'm trying to do a backup of my current rom ( the stock ROM).
when I select Backup Current ROM through ROM Manager, it reboots, then I get this:
Finding update package...
verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
does anybody have any ideas, or am I missing something really simple.
Lol. Just power off your phone with a battery pull to make sure it is off all the way and then to power it back on into clockwork to make a backup hold power + volume up + camera all at once untill you see a black screen with green text. Use the volume keys to move up and down and the camera button to select. Its pretty much straight forward from there.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
yea, I have done this before. When I get to the screen I just get the standard Android System Recovery stuff. It's like clockwork isn't even there...
You have to flash it first. Use the one click that is stickied.

I've been rooted for a while now, wouldn't "re-rooting" cause conflicts?
ok well I re-rooted with no problems using the new one-click solution, however Clockwork is not coming over.

[Q] CM10 Messaging App

I've come from a phone running CM10, but I'd ideally like to keep stock on my Nexus 4.
Is there a way to use the CM10 messaging app on stock? I am currently unlocked and rooted. I have tried installing the .apk in /system/app with 644 permissions, got a force close error. I tried flashing a .zip of the app only to be greeted with a force close again. Is there anything else I haven't tried, or could somebody point me in the direction of a working .apk?
I've searched the forums and there is one thread regarding this topic which didn't provide any answers further than what I have tried.
I'd imagine the app has some stuff tied into the framework as well.
I imagined as much but people are claiming to have it working on their devices!
Got the same problem. Worked until I did a reboot and then it FC. MMS didn't work. Couldn't get the backup of MMS.apk to work either, had to do a reset of the phone..

[Q] Status Bar & Xposed Framework

Ok, so I have been in search of a program to customize my status bar on my Rooted Note 3, but unfortunately it seems my searches keep coming back to the need to download Xposed Framework. This Xposed Framework screwed up my Note 3, when I went to use it to blur out my notification screen app. I had to un-root, and flash the original firmware, and let me say, it was a two day process to get everything back, and I tried to use my backup, with no success. So, is there a way to customize the status bar without using Xposed Framework?
Thank you,
AM
Are you sure you didn't modify anything else? Everything xposed can be undone by disabling modules or in the case of a boot loop you can flash the disable xposed zip in recovery. Once disabled it has no residual effects and you should be able to troubleshoot from there. But keep in mind some modules (gravity box) can be used with touch wiz based roms but not everything is supported

I didn't modify anything, I just rooted and left it at that. My intent was to get rid of all those programs that came permanently installed on my Note 3, and to rid of them by using Titanium Backup. I am willing try it again, this time I am prepared.
The only thing I can think of is that you removed something and it didn't cause a problem until you rebooted. You should probably only do one thing at a time. Remove bloatware and reboot and make sure it's stable and after you have that settled then start customizing

I never gave it any thought, that I may have deleted a program that played an integral part to the proper functioning of my Note 3. So, therefore I must take what I am doing one step at a time as you suggested czach5932. This was very good sound advise. I am done with my chores of getting rid of the programs I don't want, and the phone is functioning flawlessly, so now I am off to tackle Xposed Framework. Thank you.

That's half the fun. Just always have a backup so when you do mess up just restore and try again.
