Refurbished phone? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've never had one, but what are the chances of being just as good as a new one? It has to be 100% right? There wouldn't be any scratches or anything like that.. I'm receiving one in a few days, I have 7 days to return and just keep the one I bought new when it was release.. And what chances are of me getting a newer rev? I have rev10.. Got it 4 days after release..

If you have a Garmin GPS refurbished by them, it will come with a new case and screen. I have never had a phone refurbished to these standards, but I guess it all depends on who does the refurbing. There are a lot of "third party" refurbers like PDA Giant and my experience is that they suck. Bought a Nexus One from one and it had dead camera, flash, and proximity sensor... so much for thorough testing. A second one I bought through Best Buy had a bad digitizer. Both screens had minor scratches.

Well mines coming from T-Mobile.. I also bought this nexus 4 through them at retail store..

Mytouch 4g trade question

Hi guys,
I recently bought a Mytouch 4g for $470 shipped from Newegg (should have bought brand new from Ebay in retrospect, bur was worried about the warranty/exchange ability).
Anyways, I spent about $20 before receiving it on a clarivue screen protector, and TPL Case.
I didn't like the phone for a couple of reasons. For one, the weight and screen couldnt compare to my nexus one.
The mytouch 4g also has a few quality control issues that can vary, so I returned mine for a brand new one from Newegg the other day. Should be getting a brand new (?) replacement over the next few days.
I found a guy with a nexus one with a small corner ding who might be willing to trade. I told him to look at the ebay prices on both phones and get back to me. On ebay, a Brand new Mytouch 4g goes for $346 shipped. A brand new Nexus one goes for about $264 + shipping costs (to be determined).
He's offering me $75 for the exchange/trade. Good deal? Would you do it?
Do you want a front facing camera for video chat?
I really wouldn't. just root it and throw a stock rom I don't see a reason for trading it. Right Now you can get a Nexus one for 250 or less.
Thanks guys.
I don't really need a front facing camera, but my nexus one's camera (no bar code scanning even), and proximity sensor don't work. You're right $250 is not that bad a price to save up for if i'm hurting for a nice nexus one.
I think I might keep it. I get the mytouch replacement tomorrow in the mail. There are two issues with this phone's build quality that question rooting. I rooted my previous one in order to Terminal emulate a command which tells me what kind of EMMC chip it has. I had the bad one, which continuous Romming might brick. speculative.
I also had the bad screen, which is the taiwan screen (surprisingly). It looks washed out. Apparently some come with a china screen thats more akin to the nexus 1s SLCD in quality.
They actually have a poll for your interest, on the HTC Glacier (mytouch4g) forum, asking what combination of chip and LCD people have. Its a real crapshoot.
Will see tomorrow what I get. Either way, I think i bought a losing product here in terms of return on investment. Should have bought an ebay N1.

B-Stock International Galaxy SIII

B-stock SIII are available at Expansys.

I'll take the risk and order one myself. Just finger crossed I don't get one with series screen issues.
I ordered one too and will be receiving it this week, so will let you know. By the way I ordered the blue one, which isn't available anymore....
A lot of people have ordered b-stock from expansys and have been very pleased.
So what are the risks of getting b-stock???
How much will money will you save.
Thanks in advance.

Its returned item, technically refurbish I guess. You can still return it if its defective within 3 days. Just compare the price of the new one to the b-stock price. They have b-stock One S and One X too which are pretty cheap.
I already have the Nexus so there isn't anything better software wise currently (imo), so I wasn't going to shell out full price for the SIII, now its cheaper so I'll see how it is, but skeptical it will make me sell the Nexus.
That's about how much I paid for my GS3 from Amazon, only I used textbook trade-ins. I should have waited for the price to go down even more though.
Just checked expansys they have ran out of B-stock galaxy s3 now....

right when i was going to order:crying:
Just got it in and it's like if I bought it brand new, so far it's good.
Their b-stock prices are usually pretty good.
I received the b-stock SIII, looks like new with all the accessories. Only messed with the original OS for 5minutes which wasn't as fast as Jelly Bean on a Nexus, but after installing SlimICS its impressively fast.
The screen does have pink tint, but only noticeable mostly with low brightness and not that bad. The back cover doesn't seem to snap in seamlessly fully and even more fragile than the Nexus and Note. The frame/edge doesn't raise above the screen to prevent scratch on falls like previous Galaxies.
Overall seems to be a souped up SII with lower durability, but the speed alone is enough to impress me. So far I can't tell any major reason why it was returned, probably the pink tint and the back cover.
Got my B-Stock Galaxy S3 (white) from expansys 2 days ago and my phone looks and feel brand new, no problems so far.
Overall I would say the phone is in perfect condition just as if it was brand new unopened box. Really happy with my purchase knowing that I saved money going the b-stock route.

[Q] Nexus 4 discontinued? (Norway)

Hello
I'm ready for swapping out my old HTC Desire S, and one of the options is the Nexus 4 of course. While looking here in Norway, it seems that nobody is selling the phone anymore. I remember browsing around in early July and there were plenty of places selling them. But now it's hard to come by. As examples:
1) The biggest operator (Telenor) used to sell it, but the page is gone.
2) On online store (teknikmagasinet.no) states that the product has been discontinued
There's also that famous article from the Inquirer saying back in July that the device was gone from one big seller in the UK.
Could this be it? Could it be the end of the Nexus 4, foretelling the Nexus 5? I would like to know because if this is the case, then I can wait a couple of months.
Regards
/p
Well new phone is coming out in q4 for sure.

Hi,
Very likely there is going to be a new nexus launched in the coming few months. Nonetheless the n4 is a great phone. You'd do well either to buy the next one new when it's released or else get a second hand one at that point - lots of people will trade up & eBay their old n4, I reckon.

Thank you for your replies. Then it seems I'll hold it. Either new Nexus or second hand N4. :good:
I'm not quite sure but if the new nexus comes out on america at the end of this year, it will probably be sold out. It'll take some extra months until it te reaches Europe.
It's back again! Nexus 4, here I come !!

Worth buying today?

I just went out to Currys to try and pick one up instore however it was out of stock. Also out of stock on the online website.
However, its still available on their eBay outlet store for the same price. (£99)
Is this still worth picking up then? Are the going to be discontinuing this model? Are the eBay ones their surplus stock their trying to get rid off?
Do you think the price will drop any further?
Thanks!
Very much doubt the price will drop any further. The £99 price tag is to get rid of surplus stock. I got mine at this price as well.
Thanks for that!
So you reckon its still with a pop? Not much else better I can get for £99 can I?
Performance Per Buck (PPB also know and Bang for Buck BFB) is that good that its not just worth getting its worth ripping it out their hands. I have had one which was faulty but the second one is perfect! just make sure you get the Magnetic cover as well!!!!
For a tablet that can keep up with the modern phones its smashing mate.
Yes I managed to play with one in store and it handled everything I threw at it with ease. I was just a bit concerned that it isn't really as popular as other tablets despite the low price.
I was deciding between this and the Nexus 7 2013, but I'd probably not go for the latter as the chip is ancient in tech world now and Nexus 8 is announced this week...?
Thanks all the same for the help, was just really what I was looking for, a confirmation I am doing the right thing. [emoji3]
I guess I'll place my order in the morning.
Cheers!
This tablet crushes the Nexus 7 2012 and 2013 in benches. A tablet that is not popular is not always a bad sign.
But there is also the down side of the company that has its branding on the Nvidia Tegra Note 7 (tegratab) in our case in the UK its Advent as they have bad rep in the computer side of things how ever with the TegraNote 7 the only thing Advent did was Brand the Device the sold making was down to Nvidia!! hence why Nvidia supplies the OTA's and the EVGA GiGabyte etc are all the same. The only major difference is the partition called LBH which holds the bootanimiation with the company whitelable.
I got mine from here, mint, saved £20 for a sd card and case

Just placed an order for one... [emoji3]
Quick question, does this come with a screen protector already pre-installed?
And any cade recommendations?
Cracking tablet. I have a nexus 2012 and I have to be honest the performance of the tegra note is just a joy. Love the official case as well. Worth every penny. In fact I am giving my niece my nexus!

Thanks for all the feedback! Typing on this beast now, I've set it all up and it has really impressed me. Unfortunately the official case is not available anywhere at all!
Android L. Hope it can still come to this device officially.

I picked one up a couple of weeks ago and haven't regretted it one bit. For £99 delivered to your door it provides one heck of a bang for the cost. I'm still looking for a decent case in the UK for it, though.
I got the official case through pc world online. Got it delivered to my local store. Does the trick extremely well!

I used a Nexus 7 screen protector off ebay 99p for 2, had to cut it down slightly and overlaps the camera, but hardly use that

I paid £3.19 for a pack of 6 off Amazon. [emoji51]
Not here till Thursday at the earliest so in the mean time I have to put up with the scratch ridden plastic cover it came with. (Fruit Ninja with Stylus caused it) ?
has anyone tried Skinomi® TechSkin - EVGA Tegra Note 7" Screen Protector Ultra Clear Shield
Tempted to get one of these..
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271447868326
Best case for Tegra Note is Fintie case for HP Slate 7 Extreme. It is 100% compatible. Also the magnets work like a charm.

Broken screen, what to do?

Obviously replace the screen is the first thought, I have read reviews on Amazon about the replacement screen from ASUS and its mixed reviews. Should I just buy a new or risk getting a lemon?

For the cost of one of these now....just buy another one used. Or a new 2013.
I wouldn't personally go through the hassle and cost of trying to fix it. ?
Buying a used nexus 7 is a better option:good:
I got a new (barely used) screen + frame assembly on ebay for $50. It works great and the seller was just a couple states away. I haven't had a single problem with my new screen. Parts can be found relatively easily if you don't want the cost of buying a whole used or new tablet. I can't say for sure about the amazon products, but my experience in buying a new screen was painless, quick, and cheap. My kids use my nexus 7 more than I do, so I was more worried about getting it back up and running immediately to avoid being referee to their fights lol.
I got one for 65$ from eBay China seller. And replaced it myself..
