I don't think there was any doubt of this, but it's nice to have a rough guess of when we'll get it.
There will be custom roms in the meantime but I suspect we'll lose a lot of stylus support.

Yes, ICS has support for Pressure Sensitive screens.
I don't understand why everyone thinks the Note will get ICS.
Its just some blog that says so...
They even have edited their post now:
Update : is not official confirmation from Samsung Korea (the only one who can give the full official) but is "a hypothesis" for the next updates. Only Samsung Korea will confirm the roadmap of aggironamenti.
I say, the Note does not get an Official ICS...
Its far more logical that the Note II will get ICS.
NO confirmation, nowhere. Stop fooling yourself.

Why are you so negative about ICS? Secondly, note is a brand new device. Almost all devices from past 6 months must get an upgrade to ICS.

I am not negative about ICS. I would like ICS.
Its just not likely the Note will get ICS, and NOWHERE Samsung did say the Note will get ICS.
Its just some blog (looking for some extra visitors I guess), hearsay and such, and everyone thinks its going to happen.
Wait for an official Samsung announcement, than talk about "its confirmed".
And why "Almost all devices from past 6 months must get an upgrade to ICS" ??
Wishful thinking maybe?
Because otherwise it's bad PR. Android devices which are at least six months old have always been updated.
Think about what Samsung needs to do if they put ICS on this Note.
They spend a lot of money on marketing the Note, and its just about to get released...
If they would put ICS on this Note, they either have to revise all the marketing material, or recreate the exact same software on ICS, including launcher etc.
Even the Italian blog mentions second quarter 2012 as a date for a possible Note update to ICS.
By that time the market is also ready for a Note II with ICS 4.5

If they don't update to ICS, Samsung will have a lot of negative media about not supporting there brand new flagship devices. Which will result in a lot more of a loss than the gain. Plus they have to update TW to ICS anyway, they might as well put a bit of more effort and make it work for Note. And ICS can act as an incentive for newer purchases, people always like forward to buy newest Android OS. Galaxy S2 came out and still they are providing updates for Galaxy, why do you think that happens?

We will see.
But there is no official announcement or confirmation from Samsung that they will update the Note to ICS. Its just a blog, and they already had an "update" in their post, they are not so sure anymore.
So the title of this post is wrong.

As I said in another thread, it would be a PR disaster for Samsung to come out with a phone at the same time they issue ICS and not provide an upgrade path.. At thIs point I think you're speculating yourself, and you need to sit and wait like the rest of us and see what happens. My bet is you are very wrong.

I hope I am wrong.
But you agree there is no confirmation to be found, right ?
(And the rest is speculating)
Google requires all manufacturers to deliver updates for at least 6 months for all new devices.
So ICS should come to the Note.

Yes. In this case Gingerbread updates. 2.3.x updates.
i am pretty sure given the way samsung has been working these days.
However i dont have any confirmation.
actually, Google said 18 months. I am quite certain that ICS will land on any Galaxy S2 and after device. PR disaster. I mean look at the other KOrean maker, LG, they are not exactly doing great.

You clearly dont know what the hell you are talking about here!
Google wants that all manufactures update to ICS because of fragmentation. Google will update once a year like Apple!
The Note II maybe not coming at all if this thing does not sell. So they will update this Note to ICS. Every new phone you buy from Sammy will get 18 months of Support So that means ICS will come to the Note!
Mark my words ! Of Course they will not confirm this this quick because of the galaxy Nexus. It will interfear the sales of that phone!
According to this webpage the Korean Galaxy Tab got the gingerbread update on November 2, 2011
http://www.samsung.com/sec/consumer/mobile-phone/mobile-phone/wi-fi/SHW-M180WCWOO-support
I was wondering if we have anyone from Korea who can confirm that they actually were able to get the gingerbread update... and i wonder when the rest of the GT-P1010 tabs will get the gingerbread update
Sorry

Sorry to tell you this but I was able to download the supposed tar file for the update but unfortunately I learned from it that the korean model uses the same Samsung SOC as the P1000, while our P1010 uses a lower performance TI OMAP. So I'm guessing that's why they got Gingerbread update and we most likely will never get it the worst part is that without Gingerbread bootloaders development is effectively stuck since all the "cool stuff" is developed for GB based devices
Thats gay... samsung seriously screwed up big time... they are just diggin a big hole of unsatisfied customers... after experiences like this u really start hating a company like that... no tech support, no reliable info, total lack of communication, and list could probably go on...
i am glad my next android tablet was asus eee pad transformer... been using it for 4 months and the support n upgrades have been smooth, quick, and most of all very stable...
Well, let's hope I'm wrong. Under all pronostics Samsung updated its GT-I5510 but I wouldn't get my hopes up for the P1010 seeing all the new tabs they're releasing and being the only one with the OMAP processor. It's a shame that Samsung makes these really great phones, I actually really like them, but the update support, ugh... it's just inexistant. A real pitty
Oh samsung, this is because everyday they do another tab.
samsung told me the update may be here by the end of the month

ICS will never be released for galaxy tab 10.1
I think that ICS will never be released for galaxy tab 10.1. The main difference between galaxy tab 10.1 and galaxy tab 2 10.1 (besides mechanics) is that it works with ICS. If the old tab will have ICS there is no reason to buy tab 2. Since they want to make profits from tab 2 they need to keep older OS on older tablet.

Im not in marketing deparment but im related to android development of tablet and cellular devices. And I strongly beleive that the same ICS version that runs on tab 2 should also fit older tab. So the only reason they delay it or postpone are marketing issues that im not aware of. Also the anouncement is hardly mentioned on the internet and the ICS should have been delivered along time ago.
Have you ever thought why Samsung released ginger breads for Galaxy S on all international versions, while TMobile vibrant version still runs Froyo?
Meh...
If we get a working camera driver out of it, not that big of a deal. We have several ICS options that kick ass and the only thing missing really is working cams

Lollipop was announced for Note 2, Note 3 and Galaxy S4 by Samsung Finland.

Sadly I have lost all faith in Samsung and will not purchase another of their products. I realize it's sacrilege around here but I bought myself an Ipad air 2 for Christmas. Being that I'm keeping the note 10.1 (2014) I'll have a good comparison between the two items.

I agree but there is no other android tablet with s pen in that size and prize range.... next best thing is ms surface but that's something else completely.
The thing is, I use the pen for alot of stuff (drawing plans to rearrange our flat for example ) and alot of friends and family are totally intrigued by it. I can't imagine buying a tablet without pen after this... its a must have feature once you're used to it. Sadly there is no real competition...
Nevertheless I'm almost sure there will be a lollipop update for it reasonably soon (2-3 months). Unless samsung releases a note 10.1 2015 in the next 2-3 months then the update could be even later. But remember even the original note 10.1 got updated to KitKat!
It'll probably never happen...
So sick and tired of samsungs crap support. I am also sick of my Note 10.1 2014 just being "good enough" to get tasks done. I only use lecture notes for this tablet to annotate pdfs. With no lollipop in sight, I'm buying a surface pro 3 at the beginning of next semester to replace this tablet and my ultrabook. If i get real desperate for android, I'll use Console OS. Peace out sammy, if you have no interest in supporting your products, neither do I...

I thought it worth to let you all know that I am using Lollipop on a Samsung Note 2014 10.1(SM-P600) wifi only.
There is a thread on the android original development forum by RaymanFX. Its Cyanogenmod 12 which means its Touchwiz free and KNOX fuse is tripped.
More importantly however its miles ahead of KitKat- touchwiz in terms of responsivenes, snappines and fluidity.
There also is this article http://www.xda-developers.com/android/analysis-of-the-galaxy-note-3-android-5-0-leak/ and if all is well and truly as remarkable with Touchwiz- Lollipop then I would love to see this ported somehow to Samsung Note 2014 10.1(SM-P600) wifi and sister/brother models.
Adding all Apps from Samsung Note Pro 12.2 to such a port would be like phenomenal! I have donated before and would donate again on a project like that.
:good:
This tablet will be updated but it's going to be awhile so relax and enjoy life until then.

If you bought a Samsung tablet and expected much more than 1 update, you're a fool. It's a trade off for superior functionality over the more-update Nexus tablets.

I have a Nexus 7 (the first edition). It received the Lollipop update last year and since then is almost useless due to lags and sluggishness. I also got the most recent update (L 5.02) which they claim it fixes N7 lags, but I did not see any improvement. Everything is slow, browsing is slow, booting takes minutes.
With this experience, I have no rush to update my Samsung tablets to Lollipop
Samsung should think about why their sales are going down... l hope this powerful device will get Lolipop but if not I think Samsung will loose aanother buyeri...
Poslano s tableta (tapatalk)
I guess I'm the only one still happy with my Note 10.1 2k14 edition. I'm running a custom ROM. I use the handwriting and s-pen functions quite a lot and don't imagine that I would be happy without those functions. My tablet still functions fine and is nice and responsive (not as fast as my Note 4, but also not as new). I'm really in no hurry for Lollipop on my device. KitKat runs fast and is stable for me.
It's time for Samsung to wake up. This is a modern world. We pay premiums prices for top-rated Samsung phones and tablets, and expect regular updates. We dont need to beg for the updates. The computing world changes rapidly, and samsung should follow suit. It's becoming clearer that Samsung cannot keep up with Google releasing free updates to free android softwares. It's becoming clearer that Samsung Tizen software will eventually be a useless OS.
Just out of curiosity . . Why is getting lollipop so important that people are willing to sell their tablets in shear outrage?
I've got it on my note 3 and in terms of functionality there is very little difference . . .

I had saw the usual sites saying it was coming but that was way back last year and hadn't seen any new info recently so I figured it was squashed. With all Samsung's phones getting updated now, I would assume shortly after summer too.
Yea, this device came out in April 2013. It is now May 2015, well outside the 18 month support window. Keep dreaming guys, ain't gonna happen.

Correct, but official Samsung Denmark said it will get, but depends on region by region. Also heard Note II won't be getting it, but Samsung Korea said it will be getting lollipop (depends which version of Note II).
so it is really hard to say if it is getting it or not, but I still have some hope, it may see lollipop.
Talking about CM 12.2 nightlies, it is buggy and its ugly, but that's personal preference of course.
