[Q] Signing system apks

Quick question, are Touchwiz apk, MMS.apk and Phone.apk required to be signed once modified with 7zip before sent to phone again?
I just want to make sure because I can't be bothered restoring later if something goes wrong.

But I've set the apk as project in that tool, extracted, replaced the PNGs i want, zipped and it asked me if I want to sign or not, so as suggested I didn't and now the new apk is 400kb while the original is 650kb.
Did I do anything wrong?

if you edit system apps then just replace them without sign... no need of signing..

if you just replace the .png images from APK then its alright,you can edit your apk with 7-zip or winrar or whatever to decomplie your apk. thats nt a problem

Hi i hv edited my tw but not yet signed but it shows app not installed wheneva i tried to install. I edited xml files only to rename com.sec.android.twlauncher. Jst tell me may i hav to sign to install it on my phone

If it is not a system app I believe you need to sign it otherwise it may not work.

You can't rename the vendor name,i tried it a lot and sign it but it don't install.

Try to install creed 3.5 tw launcher directly on your stock its installable. If it doesn't installing then uninstall your stock tw launcher and then install creed 3.5 tw launcher. Before doing that backup your original tw launcher and install any other launcher

how to upgrade or update the playstore to latest version frns??
n wats d latest version of playstore?
cos my playstore is damn freaking.it jst sucks.unable to browse it with ease.its hectic to dwnld any app from it.damn slow.wat was d prblm?
im using creeds 3.5 n i hav seen d same issue vit othr roms too.
my present playstore version is 3.5.15

first rename the file to vending.apk then copy this file to system/app/here by root explorer and set permission to r-w-r-r.
in that thread he write how to do that.

[Q] bricking

Guys i have rooted my phone and have installed cwm. Is there any risk of bricking if i remove the sd card?? And if i reset factory settings now will it harm??

No it will not harm ur phn....but dont forget to unmount ur sdcard in settings before removing it....
And factory reset will wipe all ur personal data...

or a temporary flashable CWM?
anyways,
just don't format the SDCARD,
factory reset while rooted can cause rare problems of bootloop depending what you changed on the system

I have stock kernel on it i installed cwm. Is there any problem if i reset factory mode??

Nope. No problem. Btw, if you're stock kernel, then it means that it's just a temporary CWM on your sdcard, which you boot into from the stock recovery. So don't format the sdcard.

But i will be using new sd card for my phone. Will i have to reinstall cwm or will it work without the old sd card??

If you want cwm with your new sdcard, just copy the zip file to ur new sd and flash(install) it. It is not a permanent one, just a temporary.

flash savies kernel or merrukks kernel. Use savies, because merruks kernel installation is little bit complicated (although mai77 has made a simple tutorial for it) and it it's not a final

Everyones tastes are different. So we can't say which is the best one. I use hyperion rom and savies#rev73 kernel..
Is the CWM with savies rev73 kernel not a permanent one???

Savie's latest kernel (rev73) has the permanent cwm. We have to mount the system before flashing anything. That's all.. I confirmed it by PMimg him..

There are some tweaks available for it.. I think in hyperion, he included these. And most of the latest ROM has these things.

I think you might need deodexed stock rom but anyways you can push the file directly to the system just go into /system/app and paste it there and change permissions to rw-r--r-- and reboot make sure you keep the original file in case something goes wrong you might also want to do a nandroid backup

Is ur phone rooted? If so, extract the browser.apk from /system/app from any stock rom zip and rewrite it in ur system/app with appropriate permissions and reboot.

Yes, of course the permissions is rw-r--r--. But still Force Close and also if i use other browser like firefox, UC Browser, Dolphin, etc its Force Close too. Please help me

best thing to do is flash stock rom via odin and start again
you can also try just clearing data of your browser - but without knowing the real cause its too hard to know what is causing it

that will only work if there is no underlying cause/missing files conflicting/wrong files previously flashed
there are many guides to flashing via odin you can follow

And how about wrong permission file. in my system/etc/ppp there was a files. the first file named ip-up-vpn (r-xr-xr-x) and the second file named ip-down-vpn the permissions is same like the first. maybe i wrong permissions or not? before i do flashing zip from you, i ask this. because maybe i wrong permissions.

then that app has replaced or done something which I dont know what it has done
best thing to do is flash stock rom via odin
you can get the firmware from my firmware thread at the top of the 5360 dev section which also has links to guides
remember next time - if you flash or do anything to your phone make a nandroid backup first - you can then just restore your nandroid backup if anything goes wrong
