Does it matter what carrier it's on for it to be able to flash Ubuntu and other rooms i see in the nexus thread i don't see a thread for a specific carrier like the Galaxy Nexus .

Well, the only carrier that actually carries the phone I believe is T-Mobile, but you can use it on AT&T or any other GSM carrier, I'd assume.
It doesn't matter which one you're on for flashing ROMs and anything else really since there's only 1 phone. With the Galaxy Nexus you actually had like 4 different phones. GSM/LTE and then even in the LTE versions you had the Verizon phone and the Sprint phone.

Good luck! They have it for free or some kind of discount this weekend, right? :good:

At Tmobile you either lock into a two year contract or pay $150 more than you would buying it from the Play Store.

Canadian Note Up for Order

Telus will let you buy it online outright for a whopping $779.
Bell has it at $729 but requiresa $30 mtm contract and $35 setup fee.
Does not seem to be available on Rogers yet.
I'm glad I ordered from Expansys. Almost $100 cheaper and unlocked. I hate these bas****s and am really want to get to the point where I am not locked into them by virtue of the hardware. Rogers is terrible - I have a family plan (four phones on it) so any time we do an HUP, the contract period on ALL the phones gets reset. I have stopped buying locked in phones and am a year away from making them work to keep my business. I regret having left Telus when the iPhone was first released by Rogers in Canada. They had gone out of their way to keep me as a customer - to the point where I had some amazing free customer loyalty freebies. Currently I have nada from Rogers in that regard.
/vent session off.

Did you order the Canadian or the International version? I thought Expansys sells only the latter...
That's exactly why i didn't order the international version... I want LTE!!
Jesus christ they making it hard for us to buy it at full price, I don't understand why? Not everyone wants a new freaking contract!

For anyone with the Canadian Note - is it true that it just has 512 Ram!
No it does not. That was a typo and spread as truth.

Its locked if purchased from Bell telus or rogers
Its up on Rogers website... The lowest i've seen so far...699$ Sure it's lock but won't cost more that 10$ to get this badboy unlock!
def wrong section, but i feel bad for canadian note owners having their unbranded nicer device labeled as a bloat infested and branded ugly att phone
forum should be named Samsung Galaxy Note I717 instead of "ATT"

I noticed it says LTE bands=700/1700 MHz...which seems to match the AT&T LTE bands. But will that Note version actually work fine with the AT&T LTE??

Tmobile lg 4 vs international lg 4

Well now that they have been announced I have a questions are there any differences between them ? Will they both get the same Dev support ? I made the mistake of buying the galaxy 2 from tmobile and worse decision I ever did had to get rid of it and buy a gnex since the support for the galaxy s2 was the worst and always behind..... Since I have tmobile might ass well use one of my upgrades and save some money on the lg4 just making sure I won't be stuck getting late updates or have luck of support like some people with the Verizon galaxy nexus are having but I understand why since they are using lte which changes the phone around......
thanks for all the help in advanced
There literally is no difference other than the contract you sign.

NO! Pay $150 more to not have to worry about a contract, PLUS pay less with a Value or Pre-Paid Tmo plan.
It is too soon to tell if there will be a software difference. Anyone who says differently needs to provide a link showing proof.
The hardware will be the same.
Actually, it seems that the T-Mobile version will have 42mbps HSPA+, while the version in the google play store only goes up to 21mbps HSPA+.
Other than that, I would assume they would be identical.

FFS people. There are not two versions. It has 8GB or 16GB, those are the SKUs. They're both 42mbps HSPA+.
Google's own Play Store had a typo. It's even been fixed there: https://play.google.com/store/devic...wNV9uZXh1c1VTXzFfcHJvbW9fMTM1MTUyODMyNzI1OCJd
It's DC-HSPA+ 42mbps.

My bad, I saw the 21 earlier and I thought it was some deal between T-Mobile and Google. The Galaxy Nexus international and US unlocked versions were identical hardware-wise, and since there won't be a CDMA version, there shouldn't be any differences with the Nexus 4

Not hardware-wise, but there could be software-wise.
Look at all the yakju variants, which are identical hardware, but different software.

Yes, pentaband means it works with virtually every GSM carriers. It will work with T-mobila HSPA+ 42mbps so you will get great speed, as long as you are in the coverage area.

H+ is not edge it isn't 4G as the blackberry bold doesnt support it. All the Nexus 4's are the same international or not. If you can get '4G' in your area the nexus 4 will get it. Id recommend ringing up t-mobile and asking.
The Google Play version is the EXACT same version that T-Mobile will sell.
You can check at the store to see if there is 4G or online at there website with there map.
Mind you 42Mbps is theoretical so don't expect to see anything close to that. Because a lot of different factors come into play no matter what phone you are using.
But to answer your question: Yes it will get high speed.

I'd play around with them. The advantage of the store one is that it will be cheaper in the long run to buy it and get a prepaid contract the $199 model comes with a new 2 year contract. I don't like the galaxy nexus because it has an awful screen. But your best bet is going in a shop and asking to look at demo models. Play with them.

Yes, you will get the speed that you are getting right now or might be more
Let's put it this way:
The Nexus 4 is capable of reaching the fastest possible speeds on any GSM network except for LTE.

T-mobile uses 1700 band for 3g/4g
If a phone supports that it will work on T-mobile. This phone does, so yah.

The T-Mobile version is far from a sensible option for those ultimately looking for the least expensive device overall. Granted, that may be valid if someone already has intentions of signing a 2 year agreement with T-Mobile, otherwise, even with T-Mobiles somewhat competitive monthly plans, by the end of 2 years ,you'll certainly fork over more than $150: the additional upfront cost it would take to purchase a unlocked 16GB Nexus 4.
Not to mention T-Mobile doesn't offer a 8GB variant, which is more than adequate for me & surprisingly many others I'm sure.

So is the t-mobile lg nexus 4 comes unlocked?

Buying a used ATT S4, can I have ATT look up phone to make sure I can activate?

I have been on Sprint for over ten years and I am used to buying used Sprint phones, all I have to do is call Sprint and give them the ESN and they tell me yes or no for activation.
I know GSM phones are different but I thought I read that a GSMs phone IMEI (spelling) can be blacklisted or blocked, is this true? If so will ATT look up the number for you to confirm it is ok?
Looks like I am moving my family plan from Sprint to ATTs 10GB family share plan, I will keep using my Nexus 5 but my wife has an S4 for Sprint so I need to buy a used S4 for ATT.
Thanks

If you're buying it local, say from Craigslist or whatever, then just have the person meet you at the local At&t store & check it before you buy it.

Rooting the note 4

So the s6 sucks, gonna get a note 4 note instead. I've been reading all these threads but I'm not sure what variant I'll be getting. I'm on att and want to know if I'll be able to root it and if I'll be able to use custom roms, preferably without using safe strap. Any help/advise would be appreciated.
How about if you go and browse/search Note 4 forums? All this has alrdy been said
I've been, but there's too many forums for different models. The one I think is for the phone I'm gonna get has nothing but a kernel.
AT&T and Verizon variants are not rootable unless you have the Google play developer editions of the phone.

That's probably not gonna happen since I'm getting it thru my upgrade on att and I'm not switching because I'm grandfather'd in for unlimited data. I can't afford to pay for one out right.
Then there is obviously no question about what Variant you will be getting, it will be the Att one which is as of now unrootable. You will need either a TMo one look in craigslist or an international version.

If that's your only option and want to root I would buy it, sell it immediately brand new in box, and then turn around and buy a T-Mobile version off of CL or eBay as the previous person stated. The at&t version can't be rooted. It has a locked bootloader and it doesn't look like it'll ever be any better.
