I wish I could help you. I am having the same issue. When attempting to make a call, it sometimes takes 30seconds to connect, and when/if it connects, roughly 45ish seconds into the call, it will drop. then trying to reconnect is difficult. Uhg, I love this phone, but I do occasionally need to make a call.

What "Baseband version" version do you have? This is a known issue when using 4.2.2 with any radio image older than .48

The culprit in this matter is not a rom issue but rather the baseband that you are on. For most people who retained to the older .33 baseband or lower have been experiencing the same issues you have encountered. If you upgrade your baseband to .48, the ability to hear calls will return by doing so. Unless you want to return to the 4.2.1 rom and use the .33 baseband.

Can't Hear Call with Nexus 4 +Tmobile Prepaid

Hey Guys!
I got my Nexus 4 from Play Store on December 6th. I loaded it with the T mobile micro sim activation kit yesterday. When I placed a call, I couldn't hear anything and the people on the other side also could not hear anything. I have full signal.
I called customer care and they asked to wait for 24 hrs. It's 24 hours and I am still not fixed.
They asked me to reset the handset and that didn't help.
Now they say that it would be a defect.
I am able to call from apps like Skype and Groove IP.
What should I do? Should I call Google or try Att or something else?
So I called Google Play customer care. They said it is NOT a hardware problem. Would go to a T mobile store.
I have same problem! how you decided the situation?
Try a different Sim card.

already tried, does not work
I got this problem after upgrading to 4.2.2 (manually flashed each individual image file). Anybody ever find a fix? Happened on both phones that I upgraded, worked fine before upgrading.
I'm on value contract btw.
I'm having this same issue after upgrading 4.2.2. I'm on the Nexus 4 with the update directly from Google and using Straight Talk.
I have another friend on the Galaxy Nexus on Straight Talk with 4.2.2 and they have had no problems with this. Hoping I don't have to downgrade to get this working again.
I`m having the same issue. Before updating to 4.2.2 the phone was fine. After that, I can`t hear anyone on the phone.
I tried to downgrade, I flashed another radio baseband as well, but this did not fix the issue.
I tried other ROMs as well....no luck
Any other suggestions ?
I noticed this today, it said dialing, but I couldn't hear a ring or anything , a few seconds later the call dropped (tmo sucks with dropped service)

If you aren't on .48 baseband you can't hear phone calls. Get off the old radios. Seems like they **** blocked them possibly. I just had to upgrade to .48 baseband because I couldn't hear any phone call placed on .33
Has anybody found a working solution .
It took me some pain, but I finally fixed it:
I tried normal reset (didn't work)
factory reset (didn't work)
factory boot reset (didn't work)
then I finally loaded via the sdk on command console (adb sideload) a module (latest one) downloaded from google, and that did it
I posted the fix in the big post in google groups, lets see if others catch up
Here is a fix, but it only works on 4.2.2 so you can't downgrade, also all LTE functionality will be disabled, so if you want LTE stay on 4.2.1

Download and flash the following zip and it should work

Try doing a Skype test call, if the problem persists, try doing a factory reset. If that doesn't work, RMA it with Google.

I switched from iphone 4 to S4 too. Didn't encounter such problem.
Try full wipe your phone using custom recovery, and flash latest stock rom. If problem still persist, it might be hardware problem.
I recommend this custom recovery.

Not full flash. What I meant was FULL WIPE. You have to flash custom recovery like the one i recommended, and clear dalvik, cache, /system, /data, /preload. This will ensure everything is cleared and that firmware you flashed will not be affected by leftovers from previous firmware.
nope

I have the exactly same phenomena on my new Samsung S4 i9505.
Took it to the lab , and they have replaced the "Ringer" hardware , but it did not help .
I tried changing it today to WCDMA Only , but I doubt if this will help . Don't believe in miracles .
The next thing to do is a Hard Reset and install OS from scratch .
If anyone knows the solution please advise .

HELP
S4 call problem's fix
Hi guys.. I found what causes the problem, it's Viber and Tango they take over the phone calls so you have to remove them and it will work again. It's supposed to work immediately but if not restart your phone hope it helps

Ok i had the same issue here too. To test if it was my in call receiver i recorded my voice using the phone's voice recorder - and sure enough I could here the loud crackling noise that people on the other end claim they hear. Really strange because the call is fine if I use my (wired) headset or put the call on speakerphone.
I followed the advice on here and changed the network mode to WCDMA and all is well so far. crackling noise is gone and even the voice recorder is working fine now. I'm on Three Mobile UK (like OP). I think theres something up with the way the phones modem interacts with their signal/equipment. Hopefull thats the last I see of that issue. Fingers crossed,

Ok here is what worked for me to get all sounds back working on your gs4 first thing is to get hold of a stock unlocked Rom i9505XXUEMJ7 flash this in Odin 3.0.7 by putting the phone into download mode Switch phone off, HOLD DOWN HOME, POWER, VOLUME,DOWN, BUTTONS all at the same time till you see green Android open Odin up plug in cable click on PDA search for the i9505XXUAEMJ7.MD5 you downloaded it might take a few mins for Odin to find it once it has just click on START and let it do its thing DONT DISCONNECT while going through this process when its finished then like you did in Odin flash the (open recovery TWRP.tar) the same way only take like 10 sec it will reboot itself. Now after it starts up if you have a backup in ex-sdcard restore to that custom rom flash it let it boot up now your going to see in the bottom left hand corner safe mode, now try your volume keys on side of phone if you hear sounds then your good to go, now all you have to do then is reboot phone and when it comes back on everything should all be back to normal. Hope this helps
I am also facing same problem. Is it hardware problem? I am on warranty, if hardware problem it may replaced by samsung. Please advise.
I Have The Same Problem!! Cant Hear Calls!!
Was this ever solved I'm experiencing the same issue. I cant hear callers or even the ringing when calling people. The weird part is it works when hooked up to my bluetooth in my car. If I restart my phone it will work for a little while then the issue comes back. I restored to factory settings and flashed AT&T's stock firmware still no luck. Someone please help!!!
any luck?
I was in a vibercall with my friend and heard some weird sounds like the ones when u tried to connect to internet in the olden days. Since than I am unable to hear a word and the other party as well can't hear nothing on a cellular call(viber and Skype etc working fine means no hardware issue, antenna is fine as the call connects perfectly and sms sent and received promptly). I reset my phone after backing up with samsung kies which was a headache in itself. After the reset problem persists but when I changed my sim card problem was solved but that didn't last long after a few minutes the glitch was still there. So its been more than 4 days now I am using S4 Active kindly let me know if you guys found any solution or else I will just hit to the repair center.
And if any custom rom than please note its s4 active i9525.
Thanks

[Q] Problems with incoming and outgoing calls [help please]

Alright, I am currently on an sgh-i337 Galaxy S4. I'm updated to MK2 and have been trying to fix the problem I've been having for a week or two now and figured I could get some help from some real geniuses.
My problem is that when making a call or receiving a call, there is no audio transacted between my caller and I (they can't hear me and I can't hear them). After digging around on the Internet a little, I found several tips: factory restore, update from mf3 to mk2, wipe the cache and data on the phone application, use applications such as soundabout, clean out the mic with a needle, trying different ROMS. I have tried ALL these options and have yet to figure out a solution.
Some info- I know my microphone is working fine because I will record myself and play it back with crystal quality, Text to speech works flawlessly, and S-Voice works as well. My speakers work fine too. I can play music and the internal (ear) speaker works as well. I have data on the phone and can send and receive text messages perfectly. HERE IS THE KICKER: When connected to my bluetooth headset, the call works perfectly! This leads me to believe it is a software issue but I am puzzled as to why a factory reset (even a fresh mk2 Odin flash) won't work. I have tried downloading different dialer applications and dialing a call from android terminal emulator. Still, no dice.
Thanks for any and all help!
hi there,
sounds like a modem issue.. although the fact that it works with bluetooth makes me think otherwise. did you donan official update or is it a custom Rom? at one point I update to 442 (NC1) but still had the 422 basedband (MG1). I was getting signal drops all the time so I went back the 422, flashed the modem only using odin, then updated to 442 again and no more signal drops!
good luck!

So you think I should download the new kit kat modems and give them a flash? This is what I thought as well. I feel like there is just an internal software switch that is causing mute and hold to be constantly activated unless a bluetooth device is connected. I'll certainly do your suggestion and get back with you. Thank you

I apologize it took me so long to get back with you, I had to flash full NB1, and zip the modems up, then downgrade, then flash. I couldn't find any individual tar files for NB1 4.4.2.
Thanks for the suggestion French but I'm afraid that's another idea we can add the list of busts. I first flashed the NB1 modems and then tried making a call. Everything was going normal but the call audio from either person has yet to budge. After that frustration I decided to wipe everything, update to NB1, reset the flash counter, and take it to best buy and the AT&T store for some more ideas. The guy at Best Buy was a total dweeb and said they didn't offer a service for flashing phone devices. How lame. I went to the AT&T store and the guy of course, didn't try to help me resolve the problem but just get a new phone.
So, I'm scraping bottom for ideas fellas. I'm open to any and all suggestions. Thank you all

My issue solved bro. I just get back to 4.4.4 and update to 5.0.1 through OTA and viber works.
Previously, I updated with image files.
If u r having same problem, try it.
Thanks, but I can't do ota updates since this there is no support for my device anymore. But this happens with skype also...I hope someone figures something out.

Now i figured it out that viber call is not working on ROOTED lollipop when i am unrooted, it works well.
I guess I will go back to rooted 4.4.4 rather than unrooted lollipop as Viber is impartial for me.
And yeah I am not having any problem with Skype. Hope u will get it fixed soon
