[LOT] of quarks - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone else notice any certain conditions that cause their N7 to NOT allow the screen to be turned on? There was a situation where I had my N7 in my glove box in 30 degree weather for 30 minutes (while in a store) and when I got home the N7 wouldn't turn the screen on (full battery before going into the glove box). Then randomly while pressing or holding the power button the screen would come on and I can continue use of it (it doesn't reboot or power up, it just "responds").
Next is why does the N7s battery drain if watching a video (downloaded) with the brightness high or low while plugged into a charger? Both 2.1 Amp and 1 Amp ports have the same effect. I have also noticed that sometimes the N7 will charge faster on a 1 Amp port vs 2.1 Amp. It is the weirdest thing.
BTW I am on CM 10.1

Screen Brightness

On the Magician you could set the screen brightness to whatever you wanted but when it was plugged into mains power the screen would go as bright as it could.
I can't seem to do this with the o2 mini s. I like to keep the brightness about halfway when on battery but want it to go to full brightness when it's on mains power (USB, car charger etc).
Is there a way to do this?
cheers

8525 got very warm and screen turned color

I used my 8525 to listen to music over the internet for the first time (4 hours) and then went immediately into a 20 minute speaker phone conversation and I noticed the unit was very hot and the screen had various opaque colors of blue, green and pink in the background - the today screen was still visible, and my battery was beeping at me (not to surprised about the battery). I immediately ended the phone call and turned the unit off and put it on the battery charger for about an hour. After the brief charge it seems to work correctly. A few questions: Should I have not put the unit on the charger and just let it cool down? What was going on that made it get hot, and what made the screen turn colors? Should I expect this to happen again in the future, if so what should I do next time? What could have happened if I had let the condition continue as if I had not noticed the situation?:

Does not sound too serious. The heat is a bit to be expected due to the GSM radio transmission and 4 hours of music. They do get pretty hot. The colors on the screen sound more like a screen refresh issue (hopefully not screen being squeezed due to heat). If after a soft reset or turning it to standby and back the screen is still giving odd colors for a while I would have expected a more serious problem Given that after turning off and on it was fine, then much more likrly to be a software overload.
I might have let it cool a little before putting it on charger as this in itself can generate quite a bit of heat.

Buttons not lighting up...

Not sure if this is a wide spread issue or just a bug with rom/theme, but....
When you make a call with bluetooth and the phone is plugged in(in my case the computer), and then hang up...the buttons on the bottom will not light up until I disconnect the usb cable. It happened to me a few days ago and I could not figured out what was causing it until I made another call today in the same manner. Now I can replicate it at will.
Not really a big issue, but wondering if anyone else can replicate this?
1.47 rooted
DC 3.2.3 w/Aloysius Theme
I'm not rooted and i have seen this problem. I'm 1.47 OTA. Happens when on charger and have to disconnect to get buttons to light up. very inconvenient at nighttime! Hope a fix comes soon.
I've noticed the problem when my Evo is fully charged and still connected to the charger. Then if I turn the screen on, the softkeys don't light up until I remove the charger and reconnect it.
The buttons don't light up when plugged in. That's the default behavior.

Thumbed wirelessly from my HTC EVO 4G thru Sprint PCS. Please excuse any typos.

It's NOT a problem. It has to do with the light sensors. In bright enough conditions the keys usually remain unlit. However, in the dark or low light the keys will light up.
Try testing it out by covering / uncovering the light sensors at the top of the screen just under the indicator light while the phone is unplugged.
I noticed that when the phone is plugged in, if the keys are off covering the sensors will trigger the keys to light up and in my case remain lit until I unplug.

[Q] Won't dock/daydream while on official charging orb

I have a 8gb nexus 4 and I absolutely love the thing, today my Official from the play store charging orb came in. It works great as a charger but refuses to be a dock.
When I put the device down it makes its little docking noise but daydream does not turn on and the screen goes dark. Daydream is turned on and is set to only enable when docked.
If I enable daydream for just general purpose charging then it kicks on automatically like you would expect. However not when its set to turn on when on a dock.
Also is there anyway to make the phone automatically not vibrate while on the charging orb, it tends to slide off.
Thanks!
The orb is recognised as a charger and not a dock. Thats why it wont work when you set it as dock.

Is my LCD stuffed? :(

I have an N9005 that I bought second hand just under a year ago. It's running the Phronesis 4 ROM. About a week ago a one pixel wide bright pink line appeared intermittently down the right-hand side. It looks like this (only bright freaking pink): http://forums.androidcentral.com/at...-bright-line-being-shown-display-p1070045.jpg
Today I was playing Fallout Shelter (always makes my phone pretty warm and eats battery). 15% battery warning comes up so I take it to charge. I notice the screen doesn't turn on. There is a momentary flash of dim colour at the top, but otherwise the screen is completely black. I tried pushing the power button several times, but all it did was a momentary flash of dim colour at the top but still black each time.
I took the battery out for a bit, then put it on to charge. The on screen charging display did not appear (stayed black) but after a bit the LED lit up to indicate charging as it would after the screen display turns off. I left it for a while and eventually the screen started working again (99% charge when I checked). I was then able to boot like normal.
However a while later the screen would not turn on again (just the momentary dim flash of colour at the top before black). I didn't do anything with it in this time. It just sat in standby before I tried using it again. The back button and hamburger menu buttons are not seemingly lighting up either. But the led works fine with notifications. I tested calling my phone and it rings fine - if I slide accept the call where it is normally on the screen, I can accept calls and talk like normal. But the screen remains black. So clearly the digitizer works fine.
I have tried taking out the battery for a long period of time, taking the battery out and discharging the remaining power by holding the power button (5 minutes), I have tried taking the phone apart and cleaning the display connector with some isopropyl alcohol and firmly reattaching. Screen is still black.
Is this a problem with a malfunctioning LCD or could it be something like the GPU? I don't want to pay $150-$250 for a replacement screen assembly only to find that it's some other problem
Thanks in advance!
I would suggest to get a new device.

I prefer to repair rather than replace unless I have absolutely no other choice, thanks.
