Buttons not lighting up... - EVO 4G General

Not sure if this is a wide spread issue or just a bug with rom/theme, but....
When you make a call with bluetooth and the phone is plugged in(in my case the computer), and then hang up...the buttons on the bottom will not light up until I disconnect the usb cable. It happened to me a few days ago and I could not figured out what was causing it until I made another call today in the same manner. Now I can replicate it at will.
Not really a big issue, but wondering if anyone else can replicate this?

DC 3.2.3 w/Aloysius Theme

I'm not rooted and i have seen this problem. I'm 1.47 OTA. Happens when on charger and have to disconnect to get buttons to light up. very inconvenient at nighttime! Hope a fix comes soon.

I've noticed the problem when my Evo is fully charged and still connected to the charger. Then if I turn the screen on, the softkeys don't light up until I remove the charger and reconnect it.

The buttons don't light up when plugged in. That's the default behavior.

It's NOT a problem. It has to do with the light sensors. In bright enough conditions the keys usually remain unlit. However, in the dark or low light the keys will light up.
Try testing it out by covering / uncovering the light sensors at the top of the screen just under the indicator light while the phone is unplugged.
I noticed that when the phone is plugged in, if the keys are off covering the sensors will trigger the keys to light up and in my case remain lit until I unplug.

[Q] Status LED ?

I tried looking in the forum for any info on the status LED next to the speaker on the front side but I don't see any posts on this. Is this LED supposed to flash or do something? On my HD it has never worked? Is it supposed to work?
I remember on my Artemis it would flash green for good reception, blue for bluetooth and red if the battery was low.

I may be wrong but i was under the impresion that this was a sensor rather than a LED.
No, that's entirely correct, it is the light sensor. The LED is in the power button.
the status led is on the power button on the top right hand side of the blackstone...the place u highlighted is a sensor as what scotia has point out..
I think that it is a proximity sensor used to blank screen when you put the phone on your ear to talk.
It's actually the light sensor used for when you have automatic display brightness enabled. When it's dark, it turns down the brightness... And when it's a sunny day it cracks it up. I am not sure whether it's used to blank the screen during a call... This seems to happen after a period of time has elapsed.

ok thanks for the info.
So does the power LED on the top side flash any color to show the status of the reception or does it only light up orange when it charges?
Thanks.
doesn't do anything for reception..although mine flashes green hen I have a message/email/reminder
pity though, a decent LED to show such things was probably high on everyone's wishlist
No, the HD is perfectly unobtrusive. On my last PDA the LED had to be tweaked to stop flashing.
Too bad this isnt a LED diode Since I got on my Diamond a light notification (on the bottom of device)... when I recieved new sms... now on HD there is no way I can figure do I have new sms or notification unless I turn the screen on. The only hardware flaw by mine opinion
When its lying down, I agree with you. Then I have to turn on the screen. However when its lying next to me I'm usually not in a place were I can't use my phone, so the sound is on anyway.
I actually think its quite good the LED is on the top, it's easelly visible when the phone is in my pocket. I just have to pull the phone up a little and look down to see the LED (no need to get it out and turn the screen on). I like it on the top, nice and discreet, and not anoying me when I'm looking at the device while using it.
Perhaps a combination would be nice? Front and top That would sattisfy most people I guess...

Think I found the cause for sporadic keys backlight on DC v2.0r2

Damage may already be aware of this cause but i thought it was interesting as the cause of the backlight issue had never really been discussed in depth just the fact that it functions randomly. As i had just reassembled my Hero after cleaning the trackball i realized something when i turned off the light to see how bright my newly cleaned trackball was and i noticed the keys backlight came on when i turned off the lights! So i retested to make sure it wasn't a coincidence and sure enough lights go out, keys backlight comes on and stays on like normal while touching the screen. On 1.5 the keys backlight would come on regardless of the level of light around u. So somehow in these new 2.1 roms the backlight for the keys is linked to the light sensor. As for the trackball that's a completely different story.
That is kind of a cool idea. If that is how it works on the official update.

they are on by default over here..i haven't used android long enough to change the setting if it even has one so mine has to be default. I have my brightness set to auto but im pretty sure that was default also.

me neither :/
Mine also automatically lights up when I hit the power button. I have not done the OTA.
That's SO weird. After reading the title of this thread, a few seconds later, my lights stopped coming on, too.
Turned it off, pulled the battery, and now it works fine.
ya mine just randomly started working with no reboot ahah..how weird..now to get my ota >/ still havent got it yet
I just came in here to find this thread (how do you search in the XDA app??) because I am using my phone in the dark for the first time (hotel, trying not to wake my girlfriend) and my buttons weren't lighting up.
I did a quick Google search and found they won't light up if you turn the screen on when the phone is plugged in, and this is apparently by design.
For some reason mine never work in the morning in the dark (when I actually need them to), but they always work during the day. I figure there is just some bug with the light detector.
For those having issues with the lights not turning on, are you plugged into a USB cable? Mine do not turn in when a USB cable is plugged in, but they do otherwise.
Mine never turn on at all. They haven't since I got the phone. At first I thought it was by design then I realized how stupid that would be and looked it up. Sure enough here is the thread with people having the same problem...I'm on hold with HTC as we speak...
Capacitive Touch Buttons won't Illuminate
I found this thread in a Google Search and wanted to bump it:
I just picked up my white EVO today. I just noticed my capacitive touch buttons don't light up, though they do function. This makes the phone impossible to use in the dark. I was going to ask if this was a setting I was missing, but after reading this thread it seems like a small bug. Have anyone found out what the status is on a fix? thanks!
Ok guys I discovered that the button lights have a light sensor, this sensor is located under the earpiece speaker on the left side looking at the phone. If you have it plugged in you can cover the sensor up with your thumb and the lights will turn on. The lights also will not come if you are outside or in a well lit room. I hope this helps, and still dont know what to tell the OP as his happened in the dark.

Backlight for touch-keys

Does anyone know how backlight is suppose to work for Home, Menu, Back and Search keys? Is it suppose to stay on as long as the screen backlight stays on or is it certain amount of time? What triggers them to come on- key press, screen touch, trackpad touch or all of the above? Mine don't seem to follow any rhyme or reason, at least I couldn't trace a pattern. I know that I was messing around with the phone last night in the dark and they would come on and go off as they pleased. Does light sensor have anything to do with it? Please sound off your findings and ideas.
Thanks!
Mine don't seem to follow any rhyme or reason either - it's a bit maddening. And the same goes for the backlight of the physical keyboard (sometimes it comes on, sometimes it doesn't - no telling why), and also the automatic adjustment of brightness (i use the phone for a minute and suddenly it gets super-bright).
Hopefully these are all just bugs that will be fixed with an OTA update, but it is weird and I'm glad to know it's not just my unit since I don't want to replace it (I got a solid hinge - good stuff!).
I think I figured it out. Backlight for touch keys is controlled by light sensor and also has a timer (few seconds), so if it's bright enough outside - they will not even come on. If it's dark - they come on and stay on for certain time then go off untill you press one of them again.
Now, the other thing that I'm noticing is that my haptic feedback is not working when pressing one of those buttons or long-pressing the screen. Anyone else has that problem?
I have used my phone primarily in the dark. All my lights are always on (when the screen is) and the auto-brightness is too bright. If I turn brightness to minimum, the always on lights are way too bright compared to the screen. I really wish the designers had tried to use this phone in the dark (laying in bed) and realized the auto-brightness and lights are too bright in pitch-dark!
Also I am getting real sick of rotation. On my G1 I could disable it completely unless the keyboard was out. I like to lay in bed or on a couch and use my phone sideways, but not rotated. This seems impossible to do on the G2. Disabling rotation doesn't do anything for 3rd party apps or even GMail for that matter. For some reason this was not the case on the G1.
It will be hard to go back to the G1's one-second+ lag after every press and the incredibly slow loading webpages now that I have experienced the G2, but there are too many really annoying problems, so I think it is getting sent back.
if you have your backlight set to automatic... it will cut on only if the room is dark... check your backlight settings
It's an issue with the way android uses the light sensor. It's very poorly coded.

tiny red flashing light when on phone

if anyone else has noticed a tiny red quickly flashing light, just above and to the left of the blackberry logo at the top of the screen and was wondering wtf, i am hoping this is the cause.
http://forums.crackberry.com/blackb...all-red-light-keep-blinking-when-call-639980/
looks like it might be a proximity sensor to test if the phone is pressed against your head, to turn the screen back on when you move the phone away.
im guessing/hoping the fact that it flashes while i have a headset plugged in is a bug.
