I'm planning to sell my Nexus 10 on craigslist because I just don't use it as much as I thought I would. I was wondering if y'all would happen to know of a way to completely wipe the data off the tablet. My Nexus 10 is stock, unrooted, and is on 4.2.2. Would factory resetting be enough or is there a more sure fire alternative?

Works 100%/returns to factory state: Flash a factory image.
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
For a relatively less safer way, just factory reset from Android.
Just make sure you relock bootloader either way.

So here is my dilemma. I was having problems with my Google apps for whatever reason. Manually updated to 4.2 and still has the same problems. Did a factory reset and the problems went away. Decided I wanted to get rid of root and relock the bootloader since I'm going to give her thus one because I'm upgrading to the 32GB model. Wanted to get rid of the superuser icon in the app drawer mainly. I went to googles site and downloaded the factory images for 4.2. Used it in conjunction with the nexus 7 toolkit. Long story short for whatever reason the process didn't complete. Pretty sure I don't have a factory image at all at this point. I tried to use the nexus 7 toolkit but of course now it won't see my device. My tablet is still unlocked. I'm assuming I'm going to have to manually push the image to the phone. If any body can start me off in the right direction it will be greatly appreciated. Especially if someone were able to provide links to the info I may need. In the mean time I'm looking around on Google. Haven't found anything concrete yet. As a side note if anyone could tell me how to actually turn off the tablet do I can preserve the battery it would be appreciated. I can only get it to show fast boot mode or the Google screen. Can't power down.

Nexus 7 toolkit?
Fastboot mode?
That's all you need.

Dunno... after trying to update yesterday, twrp, cwm, stock wasn't having it, had to put stock boot loader back on, everything wiped, not a problem....nandroid backup....toolkit shows it working but nothing, toolkit said everything was there....only unlock and root worked, everything else was borked.
And I had to use Windows for the tool kit. Doh.
Toolkit has been a bane for me, finally got 4.2 using root keeper.
Off-topic.... maybe.
Lesson learnt... definitely.

Can't use the toolkit bcuz it doesn't see my device. Can't enable USB debugging. Unless there is a way around that?

I have a Nexus 4 and I'm running the stock ROM, but I am rooted. I encrypted my phone and have tried a factory rest in recovery and in the settings on the phone. It simply restarts and it's still encrypted. In recovery I'm using CM and it errors stating it can't load a file. What is going on and how do I make my phone work?
I'm trying to run Nexus Root Tookit v1.6.2 and it also still encrypted.
Is their any way to hard reset this phone? I tried fixing permissions in CM and it still won't let me wipe and do a factory reset
What do mean by "encrypted", do you mean you re-locked the bootloader ?

Can someone tell me what he means by encrypted.

No known way to decrypt. If you want to decrypt you'll need to erase the user data partition in recovery. Which will wipe any user information.
If that fails you'll need to flash back to the stock using the methods in the android development.

There is a encryption option in security section, requires a pin you created to decrypt every time you power on the phone.

I can confirm ibegary's statement. When you encrypt your phone it warns you that the ONLY way to decrypt it is to wipe all data from your SD card.

How can you erase all data?
Factory reset doesn't work. It reboots, but all is still there.
What can I do?
To connect to my company I had to encrypt data. But I want to start over.
I have no problem to erase all, but I don't have an idea how to do it.
Now days a lot of companies have a BYOD (Bring your own device) policy that requires users to install Google Apps Device Policy from the play store. This then enables you to get in to your company emails and what not. You have to complete a set of procedures, encrypting the device is one of them. You also need to have a decrypytion PIN that allows you to use the device. Furthermore, your companies admins can access your device remotely.
I tried it on my backup Nexus S and when I wanted to go back to stock, I had to uninstall Google Apps Device Policy first. Then I did a factory reset. Of course, you need your PIN to begin.

I came across this (just now) and discovered the only way to do a factory reset was to flash the original stock recovery and do a factory reset from there. You can flash the factory recovery using the toolkit.
Factory Reset worked for me

I have a Nexus 4 My BYOD policy made me encrypt my phone, and I have my phone rooted running stock.
A simple factory reset worked for me.
Everything I have read said it shouldn't but it did. I am running android 4.3
Maybe an update fixed this issue.
So I've been looking and I haven't found an answer to this problem
I have a 16 gig nexus 7 and I like to tinker with it. I rooted it quite quickly just after getting it, and I have loaded custom roms, ect. The problem arose when I saw Ubuntu for the Nexus 7! I just HAD to try it out! So I did, and it wasn't so great :/ I went back to Android and a couple days later I realized that somehow my Nexus 7 thinks it's 6 gigs instead of 16. I was wondering if it was something that went wrong with the partitions when I installed Ubuntu on it, and if there was any way I could possibly fix it.
Thanks for all the help
Have you tried flashing a stock image back on the device?

I believe I have. A little unsure though. I downloaded the stock 4.2 and flashed that onto it. Was that right or do I have to find the stock image that came with it out of the box (so 4.1.2 or close)?
Factory reset will fix the issue without installing the ROM I believe.

Well I've tried it before... No harm in trying it again after I do a backup. Will update how this goes.
EDIT I just did a factory reset and no dice. It still believes it is 6 gigs.

What i believe has happened is that your partition module has become corrupted.
So, you tried flashing stock, and tried factory reset?
Does it show up on your computer as 6 GB when you connect it?
I had the same thing happen. I just used wugs toolkit to flash back to stock, then rerooted from there. That is the easiest way I know of to fix. Becides download times it only takes like 15 minutes to flash to stock, then unlock and root and you are back on your way.
As the title says my nexus 4 just started rebooting out of no where, while one the phone, in an app, doesnt really seem to have a pateren.. I believe it started when she got the 4.4 update and now has 4.4.2. anyone els experience this issue? I think im going to try a factory reset to see if that helps. any input would be appreciated.

Are you rooted? If so and you have a custom recovery, I would do the factory reset via the recovery, that way you should still have your apps. If not, then you will lose everything and have to start from scratch.
Could be due to one of two things or a combination of things. One is a hardware issue, which I hope isn't the case. I would check the apps first before resetting, then do the reset. If it continues, try re-flashing the stock image. If after that and you're still having problems, going to 4.4, or 4.3 since it started with 4.4.

If you flash stock, it WILL wipe out everything unfortunately. If you at the least had an unlocked bootloader, you could have flashed the ota.zip and kept everything intact.

I see many posts on how to root and then how to wipe but I want to make sure what is the process when you have a rooted phone you want to UN-root and wipe because I am thinking to getting rid of root and leaving it stock this time, not sure yet... and in what order is ideal?

Flash factory image using the attached flash-all.bat file (or flash-all.sh for MAC) and then lock the bootloader if you really really wanna go stock.
BTW, what are the reasons you wanna go back to full stock?

I prob wont stay in stock but I am sick of my phone right now all corrupted with its background processes and 2 hr battery life, and I dont feel like troublenshooting every component, would just be easier to go to stock and then start over. Easier to do this with a phone than PC.

Have you used NRT and TiBu? Comparison? I know TiB is one of the leaders but again I have had a bad experience with them last time and makes me hesitant to use it again even though I had bought the pro version.
Even if you intend to move later on to a custom ROM , the way I have suggested you, will make your device squeaky clean and ready for a new ROM without any extra baggage trailing you.

Haven't tried TiBu. I had a good experience with NRT, rolled back from Nougat to Marshmallow with unroot without problems my N6P.
