New rooted phone, not showing in online play store - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've just rooted my nexus 4 phone and now I can't see it when viewing the apps in the play store on my PC. The device isn't showing.
I'm new to android, so never done this before, I wanted to use the titanium backup app which needed root access. Not sure if this is meant to happen or not?
I am signed in with my account on both the phone and online. On phone I can see the apps I have purchased etc, but can't add new apps from the online store.

Power down the phone. press volume down and power button on the same time and you will get into bootloader mode, use volume to get in recovery mode. You will see android with a red exlclamation press volume up and hit power, then select wipe cache partition and hit power and reboot after the wipe.

Play Store not recognizing my Nexus 4 (rooted)

Ever since I rooted my Nexus 4 the Google Play Store is not recognizing it.
It has the stock ROM and i'm using Nova Launcher free version on it.
I used Wugfresh's tool kit to unlock the bootloader and root the phone. (http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...s-root-toolkit-v1-6-2-updated-12-29-12-a.html)
Any suggestions?
I read in other threads that you had to install Gapps? But, those phones had a custom ROM on them, does that matter?
Thanks.

I've done that, still nothing.
Sorry, I should have clarified in op. I can access the google play store on my nexus 4 and I can download apps and everything.
It's when I try to access the google play store online through my desktop computer it doesn't recognize my nexus 4.

hi.. I am experiencing the same thing. except that it won't work.
Before unlocking the bootloader and rooting, my nexus 4 is recognized in the playstore via desktop.
After unlocking bootloader and rooting, the phone was mysteriously removed from "my devices" in the playstore via pc.
Another thing, when I enter, about phone, it says "Nexus 4". Is this correct? I have a feeling that it should say LG E960 instead.
What should I do? Reflashing and doing all the rooting stuff is my final resort, and I really don't want to do that.
Thanks!

Hello I have the same issue, I did the clear data of the Google Play App and Google Services and still not appearing in My Account in Google Play in the PC? need some help please, this happen since Root the Phone, is just rooted not change in the ROM not Change in the Kernel
Same problem. Stock ROM, no flashing of anything, just rooted with SuperSU, and the device disappeared from the Play Store.
I solved this by unclicking "Enable Superuser" in the SuperSU settings, restarting my phone, force stopping Google Play Services and Google Play Store, deleting the data from same apps, opening play store and downloading an app.
I've no idea how much of that was necessary, or whether my device would have showed up eventually anyway. Also I haven't been at it long enough yet to know if my device will disappear again after I re-enable SuperSU.
Had the same issue, fixed it simply:
Open SuperSU > Settings > Uncheck Enable Superuser
Download an app from the Play Store.
Open SuperSU > Settings > Check Enable Superuser
Device showed up instantly after downloading an app from the device.
Im having this same issue, i have tried all the suggestions in this thread with no luck
same for me
I rooted my Nexus 4 and now it doesn't appear in the web play store either! Followed every solution, but it's still not there :crying: any help please?
After trying all of the above options my device was still not showing in the store. I went to this link.
play.google.com/settings
I clicked on one of my devices and clicked the update option this loaded my Nexus 4 onto the list it is now available on the web store.
Thanks everyone for the advice and I hope this helps people who are still having issues.

[Q] Unfortantly gaps has stop working

Hello,
I dont know if i am at the wrong forum or not but just say so.
I have a problem with my Nexus 4
On my Nexus 4 when i reboot it says "Unfortantly gaps has stop working." and my google play store doesn't work anymore after that when i try to open it it closes in an instance, i have seen tons of solutions on the internet and whenever i have tried one,my google play stores opens and works perfectly fine until i try to download an app instead of downloading it the google play decides to close, when i try to open it up it closes again.
Hope you can help me out
sincerly

Are you on a custom rom or stock?
Go to settings-apps and clear cache/data, then force stop. Reboot & try again.
If that didn't work, go to settings-accounts-Google-click on the email thing-settings (top right)- remove account. Then re-add your account and try what was failing earlier.

Are you rooted?
Have you changed anything that could have caused the play store to misbehave like that?
Check in the settings of the play store, which version is it?

Ok, let's try this then: download and install the Play Store apk again; this isn't dangerous and shouldn't do anything but over-write the Play Store, however, it's software. Just a warning.
Unless someone else comes with a solution, you might have to root & flash a factory image (= back to stock).

Holding home button to go to task manager crashes.

It just keeps crashing and says System UI has stopped. I can't ever go to task manager this is really annoying.
I have GT i9505 rooted.
How do I fix this?
You can try:
1. Go to recovery and clean cache.
OR
2. Re flash the firmware you have using Odin (you will use only your root).
It should solve your problem
This used to happen to my S3 when I froze all instances of Google Search.

Is there a simple way to re flash the firmware, without rooting? I don't think I have enough know how to root without screwing something up :/
Thanks!

Yikes. Sounds like a locked bootloader. Verizon likes to throw in as many security checks as possible in their ****ed bootloaders I am so sick of their shet. Sorry I have a Note 2 on Verizon and I can't get a recovery on here I've bricked it 3 times now and just gave up trying. I am still on 4.1.2 yet Triangleaway never actually solved the problem. I can't wait to get off their stupid contract I am never using them again.
Sorry that I can't really answer your question atm but I can look into it here after I calm down.

No need to panic. There are several ways to return back to normal. Did you install safe strap once you rooted? If so, pull battery out, replace and reboot into safestrap. Click the wipe setting and then you wipe settings to an operable state of operation.

Actually, thought of something easier. Before you power phone up... hold the menu button, volume up button and then push power button together while still holding the other 2 buttons. This will start the phone up in recovery mode. Do a factory reset from this screen. You will lose your app data however you can recover the apps via Google play store. This way you'll also keep root. Doing the Odin recovery will lose root and restore to fresh out of box condition.

Question for you. Before you do any of this, did you try and reboot again and see what happens? Sometimes the phone does certain system checks via boot and may require a couple of minutes to do its thing. I would do this before you factory reset. Maybe it needs a moment or two. Give that a try before you do anything that will compromise your data and apps.

I turned it on with and without the sd card and no luck. let it run for 20 minutes to an hour on the verizon screen and nothing works. I just want to get at least some data off it. Looks like you may need to do a reset. Then, once you are reset install backup. This way you'll have some of those apps. Also, factory wipe will not delete SD card.
Yo, even *IF* you accidentally wipe your data, you're not completely out of luck. Once you get your device up and running again, I saw a guide on here once on how to mount your phone's internal nand as a harddrive on Windows and use one of those data forensic tools to recover all the deleted data. This may not work for some of your apps but you *will* get all of your screenshots/pictures/whatever files back! If ya want a can go back and look for this.

You're in luck, I found a boatload of forums you can look at! The popular choice among these is using Recuva, but all are different ways to go about it. Check these out:
Root app methods/Recuva Basics (NOOB FRIENDLY): http://www.alliance-rom.com/wiki/recover-deleted-files/
XDA Method (Windows): http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...de-internal-memory-data-recovery-yes-t1994705
MuhammadAG method (Linux): http://mohammadag.xceleo.org/mounting-your-android-devices-internal-storage/
My suggestion (Try this first with Recuva): Flash your phone back to stock, reroot (using Framaroot or other non-invasive method), get terminal emulator (*NOT* through Play Store, don't even set up Google accounts, this will potentially overwrite data), in emulator get su and type "setprop persist.sys.usb.config mass_storage" and see if that pops the cap. Samsung is stubborn tho and will not usually let this one fly. It might fly if you happen to install some other than stock rom.
Sorry that this is a lot of info... weigh your options!!
Best of luck,
Please do say thanks!

You could remote wipe it if you have a google account connected to it.
I don't think it requires any other action except the phone having an internet connection.
By flashing a stock firmware and select a .pit file and check repartition. You have to know what you are doing though.
Or boot into the recovery, look for a screenshot of the recovery on google and try to factory reset it using the buttons.
Yes but that would be fairly trial and error.
