Holding home button to go to task manager crashes. - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It just keeps crashing and says System UI has stopped. I can't ever go to task manager this is really annoying.
I have GT i9505 rooted.
How do I fix this?

You can try:
1. Go to recovery and clean cache.
OR
2. Re flash the firmware you have using Odin (you will use only your root).
It should solve your problem

This used to happen to my S3 when I froze all instances of Google Search.

Hi, I also have this problem, but clearing the cache in recovery didn't work for me.
Is there a simple way to re flash the firmware, without rooting? I don't think I have enough know how to root without screwing something up :/
Thanks!

if you don't touch Firmware. you can go Recovery Mode and Factory Reset.
Shutdown.
Hold Power + Volume Up. when boot up keep hole Volume up and release Power.
you will enter Recovery Mode. Choose wipe data/factory reset.
if not work, try to reflash firmware.
Next time you removed the launcher you can push back the apk.

Push back
-Find/download .apk
-Enable usb debuging and Use adb push
Or copy .apk from ex-sdcard to /system/apps
I give u the "factory reset" choice coz it's easy way to fix. And i'm not sure cause is launcher missing. But this choice u will lose yr installed apps.

The Fact is you don't need to use the same touchwiz as original but you need any launcher with the same name.

I've already described how to get into recovery mode in the former post.
-shutdown
-hold power+up
-release power after reboot but keep hold up
- wipe data/reset factory default.
If can't , try to reflash the firmware.

Yes. if there are problems with modem(3g network), try to reflash "bell modem" again.
you can read other posts for more details.

Problems even after re-installing the firmware! [Note 2 N7100]

First of all i used CWM to root my phone flashed via odin. Then i accidently installed chainfire 3d's driver, it wasn't booting and was freezed so i re-installed the firmware. now everything works fine except the LED notifications, only when i restart it, the LED turns blue. doesn't lit up even while charging/missed calls etc. and alarm sound isn't working either (quiet odd), while call and other sound based notifications works perfectly fine!!
I searched and searched, but none has problems similar to me. Please suggest me to try something that'll work besides re-installing the firmware again. not sure if custom kernel will do or not :'(
btw i rooted it again with CWM, hoping i'd work, because it allows custom led lights to work, but it didn't.
Still no reply!
-_- still no reply! :crying:

How did you reinstall firmware? Odin or cwm? Try odin and flash tar firmware. Copy first your data from mobile because this operation will wipe everything

*#0*# on your key pad and use the diagnostics.
The LED should flash 3 primary colours before ending.
If one of the colours isn't working, then it's a hardware issue.

That was interesting thanks, but no, no hardware problems. any possible way i can fix this without formatting and all? i'd be grateful.
have you tried getting back to stock entirely? i mean even get back to the stock recovery. plus factory reset.
and then if you still need root, you might wanna try the ExynosAbuse option, it's the cleanest.

no i haven't, when i installed the clean stock firmware (md5 file), i still had those issues. i shouldn't have installed chainfire 3d, i was too hasty, i didn't read it's official thread, which mentioned it's only for ICS. Thanks, next time i'll use that to root. Also will titanium backup be of any help?
try flash stock by odin, then do a full wipe, if still no led, take to warrenty

[Q] What happened!? My phone unconfigured everything!!

Something strange happened today.
My N4 changed a lot of things with no reasons:
1) home button stopped working
2) no notifications at all on notification bar
3) when i hold power button only show "turn off" and no more the other options
What may be the cause of that?

have you tried rebooting?
also, you will have to give us more info, like what rom, kernel, any mods/themes, your setup, etc..

I have no notification icons on the top bar as well, but i have some apps running on background that should appear there.
Is there a reboot method like when we remove the battery?
If you have a custom recovery and can get into it have you tried wiping cache and dalvik? Or a factory reset?

In settings it is under backup and restore I believe will have the option. Keep in mind it erases your data so if you have anything you want to keep back it up first.

I think i know what happened. This is a very strange bug but it happens once in a while.
Whenever you flash gapps or flash the stock rom your phone boots up into a setup mode which blocks alot of things and limits itself . Once your all done with the setup your phone then changes a file in the system or deletes it that keeps the phone from going into setup mode again. Your phone seems to be in this so called setup mode because the home button doesnt work, only power off option, and no notifications, this is the behavior of the setup. Your phone might have changed that file or replaced it.
I dont think a factory reset will help anything as its in the system, i might be wrong but you should try it first and if you cant get it to work then just flash stock again. This has happened to me a few times before and i have resolved it by just reflashing the stock rom. Im not sure what the cause is but i guess its just a random chance that you get this.
Also no you dont loose root if you factory reset.
That is a strange bug I've never heard of that you may be right but a factory reset should force him to go through set up again which could fix that. I didn't suggest re flashing since he stated he didn't have a custom recovery.

You could remote wipe it if you have a google account connected to it.
I don't think it requires any other action except the phone having an internet connection.
By flashing a stock firmware and select a .pit file and check repartition. You have to know what you are doing though.
Or boot into the recovery, look for a screenshot of the recovery on google and try to factory reset it using the buttons.
Yes but that would be fairly trial and error.

Unfortunately the phone wasn't set up for android device manager as device administrator so can't use this function.
Also the screen doesn't turn on, so can't use the buttons for doing a hard reset through recovery

You can. But you have to estimate by using pictures of the stock recovery.

Google images? "S4 stock recovery" as search terms?
It's very strange

Google keeps stopping

On latest ASF3 software (SM-G975F) for a week or so, all of a sudden I'm getting the "Google keeps Stopping" pop up and none of my google apps will open.
I tried all the clear cache, disabling, and uninstalling recent updates. Nothing works.
Any help appreciated!
