Hi all,
When i plug my headphones and my OTG cable + 32Gb pendrive, a noticiable "buzzer" sound is audible through the headphones.
It happens when I connect the OTG and when I click on any of the the folders, a small "bzzzz" does sound.
If I copy any file from the pendrive to the internal Nexus 7 storage, the sound is persistent until the file is copied.
If I play a video file from the OTG, a "bzzz" sounds every few seconds.
I don't appreciate it when doing the same without headphones.
Seems like the "bzzzz" sounds when the tablet reads from the OTG-connected device and it's only audible through headphones.
This doesn't happen if I browse / play files from the internal memory.
EDIT: I'm using Nexus Media Importer, stock, no root
What do you think? Could be a kind on interference, a defect of the OTG cable, or somewhat?
same here using meenova OTG reader.
With Meenova OTG reader I found that if I pull on the headphone jack towards the usb connector, noise gets less loud.
It may have something to do with the USB port not being shielded well, or something to that effect.
I noticed that if I'm charging the tablet and hook up my headphones to listen to music, I get a lot of "static" noises, which is probably your "buzzing" noise. If I unplug it from the usb cable, it stops. This happens with any cable I use, including the original USB cable and eletrical outlet adapter that came with the table.
It happens even if it's plugged into a computer USB port, so I think it has something to do with the USB port on the motherboard and how it's wired. Seems like any power drawn on the USB port creates the buzzing noise when listening with headphones. Doesn't appear to happen when there aren't any headphones plugged into the port. Might be some kind of interference between the USB and headphone ports.
On the N7 the USB port and the jack are on the same board and use the same ribbon cable so l would assume its something to do with the voltages used in USB otg and PC connections as the ribbon is not consistently shielded that's probably where you are getting interference
Edit yes @iBolski the internal speaker comes directly off the motherboard whereas the jack output is on a separate board shared with the USB port

Anyone knows if extra shielding can be added?

No you can't add more shielding. The problem is that the same ribbon carries bothe the power and the sound signals.

I have a t595 desktop dock (model # ECR-D979BEBSTD) for Galaxy S I9000:
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/ECR-D979BEGSTA
I'm using it with with the Samsung Home Desk app. That app has an option to divert phone’s audio to the external audio jack on the dock – it does that via the phone’s usb (app settings icon> Internal speaker> off). All works great with the usb power cord not connected. But I get terrible distortions on the sound via that external jack with the usb power cord connected. It does not matter if the usb power is via an AC outlet or via usb jack on a pc. It’s not a malfunctioning dock since I tested this with two different docks with the exactly same results. It also isn’t a bad phone since I get no distortions on audio via the phone’s audio jack with or without usb power connected directly to the phone.
Any ideas as to why this happens or rather how to eliminate these distortions?
I can confirm the Problem! Im using a I9000 with the Dock D968BEGSTD.

Heads up to all the audio guys out there. Listening to music as I type through my USB DAC > tube amp setup with no special setup. Just USB OTG cable to DAC.
USB Audio Out FTMFW!!!!!
(I'm on AT&T model running ARHD 9.1, not that it matters, I'm sure this feature is universal)
USB OTG to DAC? Do you have an link or pic to such cable?

Just a regular USB OTG connected through the USB cable that comes with the DAC
I have my HTC one with headphone jack to rca cables going into my tube preamp the foreplay. Then from the foreplay to my Dynaco ST70.
YouTube videos sound like garbage bags flapping in the wind.
The tube audio only people would smash my face in if they heard what YouTube sounded like on tubes. Not a good mix at all...

Yep, just a run of the mill standard usb OTG cable and then plug the usb cable from your DAC into it and your good. You'll get the headphone symbology in the status bar and the beats logo although beats appears to be bypassed (which is good) utilizing usb audio out.

Is that version 1.29? I have a T-mobile HTC One with 1.27 and USB DAC wouldn't work with FiiO E7 or JH-3a.
4.3 Update broke the USB audio out session disconnect
I've got the Sprint variant. Loaded the OTA update to 4.3 and now my USB audio gets hung when I disconnect my OTG cable. If I try to plug it in and reconnect later, my handset locks up tighter than Fort Knox. I've tried a factory reset, took a trip to the Sprint repair center (where no one even knew the audio out function existed ) so I'm stuck rebooting my phone between every listening session. Complete PITA. Specifically purchased this phone to use with my Fiio Andes, and everything was great until 4.3.
Does this significantly effect battery life?
Is it possible in any way to play music through the usb-cable? I have a carstereo with usb in. When I connect an iPhone it plays all the system audio through the car stereo. When I connect my S4 it browses the card for music files. It seems like I can play music that is stored on the phone, but I never do that. I play music from Spotify, Google Play Music and other streaming services, so I need an aux cable in addition. Not very elegant.
Is there any way to send the system audio through usb? There is a dock-option in settings, but it doesn't seem to do anything...
+1
I completely misunderstod the question duh!
Nope. Not possible To stream Spotify on USB because songs are Not properly stored on device. Best way is bluetooth or AUX.

I have an iBolt xProDock in my car, which both charges the phone and sends audio out through the phone's microusb connector. When docked, all audio is routed through the car stereo (you have to tick the checkbox under settings/my device/accessory etc).
The only issue in your case would be that the other end of the xProDock audio cable it has a standard 3.5mm plug instead of USB. If your car has AUX input, you could plug this straight in and get all audio from the phone through your car stereo.

It does have AUX as well as USB so this would work fine. I don't need the mount though, is it possible to buy just a cable like this anywere? Microusb in one end and usb/aux at the other?

Basically the cable has been made to so that when it is plugged in, the phone recognises it as a desktop dock. Thus it is a bit more than just a cable with microusb at one end and usb/aux at the other. (If you are interested in making your own cable, may want to do a search on the resistances between the usb pins that Samsung uses to identify different products plugging into the microusb).
Anyway, I haven't come across anywhere that sells just the iBolt type of cable, but to be fair I haven't really looked/enquired. You could contact iBolt and ask if they'll sell the cable, say as a replacement etc.
EDIT: never mind
I think ibolt do sell the cable separately, check the ibolt thread in the Note2 accessories forum.

Just came across this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2350690 in the S4 Accessories forum. So yes, the cable is available separately.
The Nexus 5X's USB Type-C port can both input and output audio, however mine needed some setting up before it would work.
I plugged in a Blue Yeti microphone into the Nexus 5X using both the USB Mini-B to USB Type A cable (comes with the Yeti), and the USB-A female to USB-C male adapter from Google. The Yeti powered on instantly, it's red light turned on, and I could hear myself through its no latency monitoring via headphones (Blue Yeti has a 3.5mm headphone output), however the 5X would not recognize the Yeti as either an audio input nor as an audio output device.
I went into Developer Options, scrolled down to "Select USB Configuration" and changed the radio button selection to "Audio Source". I scrolled down even farther to the Media section, and there I disabled "Disable USB Audio Routing" (you might say that I enabled USB audio routing). There was no immediate effect, so I unplugged the Yeti, plugged it back in, et voila! The phone recognized the Yeti as both a microphone AND an audio playback device simultaneously.
I don't know for sure which of those two settings truly made a difference, as now that I've got USB audio to work, neither of those settings seems to make a difference anymore -- it seems as though my Yeti is permanently approved for USB audio in my 5X!
The USB audio works for listening to Google Music, and even for regular voice phone calls.
Do you have a USB microhone/headset/headphones/DAC? Get a good USB-A female to USB-C male adapter and you'll be quite pleased! And hopefully you'll be luckier than I was and it'll just work when you plug it in, but if not then toggle those USB audio Developer Options as described above.
Finally someone has posted on audio out and in via USB c! Thanks!
Just plugged the 5X into a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20. The phone recognizes the first two input channels and can record in mono or stereo (input 1 as left track and input 2 as right track).
Also it does seem as though you must keep the "Disable USB audio routing" off for it to work.
Sweet, guess I won't need the SoundAbout app anymore.
This is really nice. Able to route usb audio to a Cambridge Audio DacMagic. Much better than the on-board dac, and no longer tied to a specific app.
decided to add this on my index
[INDEX] LG NEXUS 5X Resources Compilation Roll-Up
Isn't this just a USB sound card over OTG? I plugged in a Logitech sound card with line out and mic in and it worked without any tweaks.
My 6th gen iPod nano plays usb audio perfectly fine on my crappy pioneer deh-3300ub headunit, but no matter what settings or cables I try the stereo says "N/A USB" with my N5X plugged in.
Anyone get the audio-in-via-usb to work with the built-in Google camera/camcorder app?
I am using Nexus 6P
The audio-in DOES work with this video app: https://goo.gl/Dtu14
But with the built-in camcorder, it only records audio from the phone's mic, not the usb mic.

I would think google designed it to only use built in microphone. It would take some mods or tinkering to get it to do otherwise.

Can you test and report which apps can record audio with the blue yeti? free and/or paid, if you have the time to test of course.
hi! I buy one of this adapter usb-c to 3.5 jack, beacuse my 3.5 jack has broken. I dont find how enable the output audio to work with my headphones. someone can help me? thanks!

That's because you most likely did just get a basic 3.5mm to USB-C adapter with no active circuit. I'm fairly certain that Nexus 5X do not support analog passthrough over USB-C, which means you will need something with active circuitry.

You need a portable DAC (get a cheap one like Fiio A1 for 25usd). Nexus 5X USB-C is not USB3/3.1 interface, so it won't work.
I have a Tmobile note 10+ non rooted android 10. I've been using the stock akg headphones and samsung head phone adapter with my bose headphones for a few months.
Today my phone would not recognize the adapter or the stock usbc headphone that came with the phone. It just plays sound from the speakers.
In the notification panel it keeps switching between usb connected and disconnected.
I plugged both pairs of headphones into my wife's s10+ and it works perfectly.
Any suggestions before I factory reset?
It might be the usb port, the otg adapter works? Also, you can check it by connecting your phone to a pc to see if both comunicate, if these tests fail, definitively the usb port is faulty
Check the USB-C port for pocket lint. It's very common for them to get packed with lint over time. This will prevent the USB-C cable/device from fully inserting.
If you have some in there just use something small soft and non-conductive like a tooth pick and some canned air to get it out.
