[Q] Problems with safestrap - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I installed safestrap to install a custom ROM and when I tried to open this app , its not opening. Should I unlock my bootloader for this?.. Are there any ways to do that. I am not using a developer edition

are you sure you have root?

You can't unlock the boot loader in the xt907 consumer edition. Are you trying to open the XDA app or Safe strap app? You install safe strap and when you restart the phone, you'll see the safe strap menu. That is, if you have root.

I have rooted my XT907 using the Motofail app, downloaded root checker which verified that I do have root. Even Titanium backup works. I downloaded the safe strap 3.12 apk and used ROM manager to install it, but it won't install. What did I do wrong?

Have you tried installing it without using ROM manager? A lot of people seem to be having issues with that.

Yea, saw that in the other thread. That sucks. Glad I don't rely on TiB for a phone. Because I don't use many apps anyway.

CF Root
CF root works and everything went pretty straight forward. I had issues with root sticking but after i ran it again it was good. But, I learned the hard way KT kernel does not work with 4.3 TW at this time. I did the noob thing and forgot to back up before. But, I was able to go back to TriForce till a better flash is capable of the 4.3, due to my firmware is updated.
I did the cf autoroot..i dont see SU anyplace...i downloaded from the market. Nothing seems to be requesting SU But, apps that need root ARE working WITHOUT requesting Su ....strange

It's because of the install-recovery.sh file in system/etc. It restores the stock recovery, if you have a modified one, one each boot. Just delete that file and reinstall recovery.

Update guessing is the ota? You can use flashify app from play store to flash either TWRP recovery 2.6.3.2 that is a IMG. Or 2.6.3.3. That's a zip file .....

I just read in another thread that custom recoveries cannot yet be flashed on the latest OTA. You have to revert back in order to have a custom recovery. According to this thread.

Like Avi said, two totally different things. There was an update in May and it also blocked root and the unlock method. They were able to gain root again, but the BL is much more involved.

You can install SafeStrap and install another stock ROM on slot 1. Then, you can use Xposed to add all kinds of customization and you can flash a mod that allows init.d to allow you install init.d tweaks. Doing all of this on your safe slot will keep you from messing up your stock slot. If you get everything set up in slot 1 and it runs well, there is a way to restore it on your stock side, but I won't go into that now.

Maybe you don't have enough space on your internal memory. When you go to create a rom slot, check how much space is required and how much is available

Advice for a trouble free phone

Thank you to everyone who helped with the new root and BL unlock ability on the 4.4 RAZR m.
I'm currently have the current ota 4.4 unrooted with a locked bk. The phone runs great mist of the time, but the screen goes blank and reboots at least once a day. Would it be a good idea to reflash to jb, and do a complete wipe of the phone? Are my old apps from jb maybe messing things up? Google maps froze up a couple times which had never happened before, so I'd like to fix that as well.
Thanks

You could root, back up necessary apps and their datas with titanium backup, do a factory reset, reroot after that, and restore your apps. Might get rid of the glitch.

[Q] I just rooted my M, is it safe to install Xposed on the stock rom?

So this is not my first rooted device but it is my first time rooting my Razr M since it got upgraded to Kit Kat. It is also my first time installing Xposed so some help would be appreciated.
Yes is safe to install xposed... here is a nice collection of modules ... Be sure to unlock your boot loader before the next ota is pushed as when the next ota comes we may not be lucky enough to find a root method...

When the next ota update comes you will lose root and if there isn't a root exploit for that version with an unlocked BL you can always flash SuperSU via recovery and get root back... And yes rsd is an option to return to stock to accept the next ota
