TAB 7.7 on Ebay - Galaxy Tab 7.7 General

Is this custom rom from these forums?

It appears so.
I do recall a nexus 7 ROM
You can always change it to something better if you win
I bought my 6800 via eBay for $315
Came with ICS and have switched twice since then
Have loved it ever since I got it.

Looks like an aorth/daniel (HK?) build of CM 10.0

You can also get them refurbed from Verizon Wireless for $270+tax, in case you want that sweet IR blaster plus the option for LTE

BUT.. can these be made into a 6800 and the phone, txt,and mms messaging to work with our various sim cards?? ie: AT7T , T-Mobile, Straight Talk, Rodgers, etc???
Im going to say.. no....

1. No need for the sarcasm
2. If you already have a phone, you can just tether and use like a hundred different apps available to do all that stuff with your included data plan.

reading the eBay ad.... I saw this time that it was for the 6810..WIFI only...
Sorry for the small rant..

Question for those running the euro rom on their tmobile tabs

(Rotohammer no need to reply as i already know how you are getting yours to work)
How are you able to get both voice and Edge, are you guys using you regular phone SIM (voice/android data) or are you using the Webconnect and just added the voice service?
I do not want to flash the Euro version and find out that it does not work with my Vibrant (voice/android data) SIM, plus i am not really confident on flashing the TAB and the fact that there is no stock rom to flash back to. I am very comfortable doing it on my Vibrant though, i think the TAB is more involved as you need more files and just a .pit and .tar.
Please honest answers and no smart remarks, i am getting very frustrated with the TAB. I like it and i am currently using it via wifi, i just want to know if i can use my current SIM. Don't fell like spending more more money if i don't have to. I am at the verge of returning the TAB and i am looking for assurances that it is worth keeping and not to give up ( i know the TAB came out a week ago ).
Thank you and hope to read your honest and helpful advise.
Know exactly how you feel. I'm very close to the 14 days here and returning it, kinda saying 'put it to one side if the telcos decide to get sane all of a sudden and I'll take it right back'
I'm able to get voice AND edge. I took the SIM from my nexus one with data/voice and dropped it in, thats when it started working. Using the SIM that came with it, as I mentioned in that thread just gave me an error code. It was the SIM's plan + euro rom that got it working.
How are you not being directed to tmo site like everyone else

so just that i understand, u are using the nexus 1 voice/android data and runing the Euro rom on the tab and it works? well appart from the 3g. if that is the case why would you return it, that gives me some hope but i am hessitant on flashing the tab since there is no stock rom available as of yet if something goes wrong....
Yes, I've got a Nexus one with voice and data. I took that sim and dropped it into the Tab.
I'm getting weirdness on browsing atm though, and going to the TMobile website to check settings on my desktop, with the SIM back in the Nexus One, the image for my phone is showing the Tab, and I've not changed anything. Looks like they're detecting the hardware being used and updating online.

Which carrier should I go with for galaxy tab?

I just bought a verizon galaxy tab and I'm wondering if I should have gone with a different carrier. I was given the money for one as a gift and I just went to the verizon store and picked one up without doing any research. I don't really care about the quality of the service as I will only be using wifi. My question is are there advantages/disadvantages to going with a certain carrier? Are some easier to root and flash? Which version has more choices as far as roms are concerned? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The best two models are the Tmobile or AT&T. Reason being is that both offer 16 GB of internal memory plus another 32 GB with the addition of external memory card. Verizon and Sprint only have 2gb internal memory. Additionally if you are into using a custom firmware there are quite a few for Tmobile and AT&T. Not so much for Verizon or Sprint.

Also forgot to mention that Verizon crippled the bluetooth on the Tab. I don't believe anyone has been able to get a bluetooth keyboard or mouse to work. I have a apple keyboard paired up with mine AT&T Tab.

Great post cbb77
I agree if money isn't a concern go with the Att version ($650) since you can hack it to get 3g along with voice calling. You can also turn it into a full computer experience by using a bluetooth keyboard with it just like its a laptop
If you don't care about using voice calling with the Tablet I'd go with the T-mobile version.
Of course... I would REALLY wait until the next gen tablets come out in a month or two
Well this blows. I knew I should have done some research first. I just got it today so I have 14 days to return it but they're going to charge me a $70 restocking fee. I would really like to enable voice calling and I already have cell phone service through att so I think i'll return it and go get an att version. I wonder if I can complain about the blue tooth and get the $70 waived?

[Q] Galaxy Tab as a Phone

Hi, I'm not really sure how the GT works. Can I for example put a normal phone sim in it and use the data allowance on that sim?
I use internet, games and multi media first on my devices and calls way, way second so I think the Tab would be good for me as an all in one device but I cant get it on a normal phone monthly contract just a stupid data one. My plan would be to buy it off contract and then get a "3" sim that comes with unlimited data and free minutes and txt. Would this work ok or is there another device better?
Many Thanks

Hi,
It is possible to use it as phone but it's not very handy because of the bigness -> not comfortable to hold while phoning. But for games and movies it would be no bad solution.
But I would buy a netbook, you can do much more with it...

I understand what you mean but the most important thing for me is all in one device. Even if its crappy as a phone that's fine as long as i can use it. The way i see it is with a simple blue tooth head set it doesn't really matter what size the device is.
The Galaxy Tab is the perfect all-in-one device at the moment. I'm enjoying mine too much, actually.
im thinkin about tradin for one but from what ive been readin they are stopin ppl at att from using it as a phone

Pretty much everywhere outside North America, the Tab ships with phone functionality enabled and no carrier restrictions except for SIM locks when bought under contract.
I presume the OP is in the UK, in which case they'll have no issues doing as they plan. I travel frequently in Europe, and tend to swap prepaid data and voice SIMs in and out of the Tab regularly without issue.

Dave

Hello!
I am from Germany and am using the Galaxy Tab as a full mobile phone and mp3Player replacement for 4 Month now! The only Point is, that i have to choose jeans with enough big pockets to fit the tab in!
So when you say, that calling is at second priority, then i really can recommend it to you!
I just love this over sized phone. Lol. When I bought my tab, I had to buy a sling bag so that I can carry it around and with bluetooth, I had no problem taking my calls. Emails and messaging on the go is now normal to me. Anything that I will need on the go, tab works fine for me.
Of course if you think 7" is a bit large, go for smaller phone like galaxy s. Comparatively, if you need better power, go for laptop or netbook but as you know it, they are heavier.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
The battery life of the GT is even a lot better than some laptops.
Bluetooth headset with screen is fine, but it's kinda big to carry around all the time.
Thanks for all the input. Ive got a couple more months with my HTC HD2 and the Gtab looks like my top runner for an upgrade.
Many Thanks

i hesitated at start if to replace my Nexus one with the tab, and after doing so i don't regret it one bit.
it is by far the best device i had in terms of usability, the big screen allows me to see clearly and quickly without having to concentrate on what i'm searching for.
have an A2DP bluetooth headset, wearing Jeans most of the time so have no problem putting it in my back pocket.

[Q] Is rooting that bad ?

Hello there developers
Am a NEWBIE from india to the world of android and rooting stuffs
Hope to learn things from you ppl
Basically i ve got some queries and here you go
1.In plans to get a nexus 7 for use in india (no wifi for connectivity) and whats ur thought on that ?
2. Is rooting so dangerous that i must stay away from it ?
3.is the screen lift issue still there in nexus 7?
And finally
4.will i be able to CONNECT INTERNET THRU 3G DONGLES WITHOUT ROOTING THE NEXUS 7 ?
Hope to get ur responses soon
Thank you
Where did you hear rooting is bad!?
There's absolutely nothing wrong with rooting.
Sent From My N7 via White Tapatalk
if you dont like having complete control of your device, then rooting is bad, very bad. stay away from it. because root will give you complete control of your device. me i like root, because i like being in complete control
Rooting isn't bad on a nexus device, the process of doing it on other devices that are locked down can be a little dangerous. I bought my Nexus two months ago and never had a problem with screen lift.
Never had a problem with a Rooted device, its like getting admin rights on your computer.
Screenlift is fine if you don't have it from the unboxing, you don't have screen lift.
If you can't get WiFi connection, I suggest you don't buy a N7 (FLAME ME NOW!) haha.
First thing i did after unboxing : root and unlock my N7
I want complete control over my device! There's nothing bad with it.
But no wifi connectivity for a "wifi-only" device? There are UMTS dongles that work with the N7, but dont you want a device with integrated UMTS?

I think you'll be waiting a while for that.
They haven't even rolled out the 32GB version yet, let alone any versions with 3G connectivity.
Like I said if you can't get WiFi in your area, there are only 2 options, either constantly tether it with another device you have that has data connections, or try to get a compatible dongle.
Otherwise I would either get another tablet, or wait however long it takes Google to release a 3G version

I would get a tab that is capable of what you need.
The Nexus 7 clearly the tab for you, as much as I love the N7 and would choose the N7 over anything, this is a logical recommendation to you.
A wifi device needs wifi, simple as that.

I think he meant to say as much as he loves it and would choose it over anything else it is a illogical choice for you. Especially since underneath he says a WiFi tablet needs WiFi simple as that. I think he just had two critical typos. If you cant get WiFi then you would really have a worthless device. Idk how it works in India but most free WiFi hotspots in america don't allow large downloads off their WiFi so you really wouldn't even be able to load it with games. Honestly there is nothing you can really do with the N7 without internet connectivity. You could get a MiFi type device that would emit your own personal WiFi signal but you have to pay a monthly fee from your cell phone service provider if they even offer it at all.

New Variant (ME375CL) released into the wild April 2015

This is the model AT&T will be carrying starting April 10th. Seems like a watered down version of the ME572C plus LTE connectivity:
Press release
Too noob to post links... sorry!
K00X?
Well that's strange... I picked one of these up today from AT&T and the model listed on the box and back of the device is K00X.
Now I don't know what to think. When I do a search for that I only get results for Asus Fonepad 7. But the box is clearly labeled Memo Pad 7 and the device does not appear to be equipped to make calls.
Now I'm trying to remember where I saw the "ME375CL" designation. I know if you search for this on Asus' website the correct specs for the device are shown, whereas K00X doesn't return anything.
Kingo Root did not root.
Towelroot failed to make it ra1n.
RootZenFone reported "This is for ZenFone only".
Dose anyone no how to root it?

Right, that's how I got mine... I already have a Nexus 7, but figured for 99c (well, plus $10 a month for LTE), why not. Have 14 days to return if also. Not sure if I really need another tablet, but I guess I will need to decide pretty quick though lol.

To date, no root, no lollipop or marshmallow, at least that I've found. Issue seems to be that even though it's a memo pad 7 its an ATT-specific variant that's different enough that the standard rooting tools for the Asus memo pad do not work.
On the plus side, as already mentioned since att is basically giving these away they'll be more out there so possibly some development may occur soon.
Realistically, I'm leaning toward taking mine back - sure it was only $0.99 but I've already got a nexus 7 and do I want to pay ten bucks extra a month for this ( for the additional LTE device) when I really don't need it. All things things considered it's a pretty neat little budget level tablet and if I didn't already have the N7 I'd probably be keeping it for sure... on the fence right now though...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
EDIT - I will say this, the MP7 smokes my Nexus7 in regards to battery life.
Fiddled around with some rooting tools for the Memo Pad and Fone Pad, ie mainly the temp tethered recovery solution just trying to flash the SuperSU zip... everything seems to work except the custom recovery never launches, probably due to there not really being a recovery out there for this model. I tried various memopad/fonepad versions of twrp and cwm but nothing seemed to work. .
I've got until Thursday to return it - my luck someone will figure out how to root it Friday lol. But, I don't want to be paying $180 over the next 18 months for a tablet sitting in my desk drawer either.
Well my two weeks ended today, so I took it back... no point in paying $180 over the next year and half for something I would rarely use, it at all.

Anyone know where to get a stock ROM for this thing? I've got some kind of corruption issue that doesn't seem to be resolved with a factory reset, I think, and I would like to get the built in recover to reload the OS from the MicroSD card if possible. Asus wants me to sent it back in to them but I'd rather fix it myself. Any pointers to a copy of a recent stock ROM?
Thanks!
I got the same tablet (ASUS K00X) from AT&T and tried all the rooting solutions for the Memo Pad 7 i could find, but nothing worked. I guess we'll have to wait a little longer before getting this tablet rooted.
I don't even care about rooting it. Stock ROM is all I need..

I too need to network unlock mine. Might just have to pay for an unlock code, sadly it's hard to tell what sites are legit or not for that service.

I actually submitted an online unlock request to AT&T (after their system was messed up for 3 days) and they sent me the code for free within 2 business days. I was really surprised, I thought it wouldn't be eligible for unlock since it was an un-used Go-Phone device. I guess they were feeling generous. Works great on T-mobile, although the process of getting the free 200mb of monthly tablet data was a chore. Have yet to use it, I don't really need it for anything (tab automatically connects to my phone hotspot), just figured it was cool to have for free.

Sucks, I did the same today and I got this: "We're unable to process your request because the device is currently active on another AT&T customer's account."
But in fact, this was a prepaid tablet and not tied to any accounts...
Anyhow, I don't have an AT&T SIM and it won't even let me update. Is there a ROM that I can sideload to upgrade to Lollipop? I'm still on the initial KK build, has quite a bit of crashes.
