You have got to just love those type of problems right? I have the same issue with an Android I have. I had to switch to Bluetooth then I ran into some issues causing BT to lock up the phone. Now im limited to a good ol headset. Not a bad one though.
I would try to taking it apart if you know what you are doing and its not going to void any kind of warranty. If you dont know or its under warranty, take it to someone to have a look at it.

I've had the Surround completely apart. If you get it apart take a look at the speakers and all your ribbon cables. Check the speakers for any cracks and the ribbon cables for any tears or unlevel seating.

Hey everybody, this looks like a very helpful place, let me explain my problem.
My XDA mini S just stopped playing all audio through the speakers, the headphones get audio but the speakers on the device get nothing. I haven't installed any extra software for this to happen, it was working fine until today when it just stopped. I've re-foratted the thing and tried again but still no luck.
I've checked in the Settings > Sounds & Notifications area and all that's fine as it plays through headphones.
Any ideas?

Should be, I've had it since January, well that was another mini S as that one had a fault with the Start>Phone feature, this is the replacement. I've e-mailed O2 and if need be I'll send this one back and get my money back, I'm not too happy with this as the device seems to be sluggish and have a few bugs.

Matt
Headphone jack microswitch stuck? Seems a common issue, try wiggling the jack in the socket.

WOOOOOOOOOO
It worked, thank you so much!
I seem to have a problem with my HTC Touch (ELF)
I recently upgraded to another phone (diamond) and was giving my Touch to my brother.
After leaving it unused for a couple of weeks, I got round to flashing a new rom onto the phone (Blue Elves 5)
I gave the phone to my brother (without testing anything I didn't have time).
He then told me that there is a problem with the sound - nothing is heard at all via the earpiece during calls, however it works fine from the external loudspeaker.
I guessed that it may be that the rom didn't install properly so I talked him through a hard reset - no joy. Still no sound.
I have today installed another ROM - PDAVIET - latest version, and flashed the radio to the latest version. The problem is still there.
My brother insists that he has not dropped / knocked the phone at all, and I don't doubt him. I am however at a complete loss as to why all of a sudden there is no sound from the earpiece. I have used the phone for a year, with various different ROMs and never had any loss of or distorted sound from the earpiece.
Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem may be? How can I fix this?
Any help very much appreciated!
(Also - yes - the volume is turned up)
I think you better read this

let me no how you get on
thanks but this doesn't help as my warranty and contract are ended. any other ideas welcome.
thanks.
Could this be a problem with the registry? would flashing ROMs fix the registry? Is there a registry setting for disabling the speaker?
I have the exact same problem. Let me know if you find a solution please !
I think you guys need this:

good luck!!
I have the same problem, but I did prefer to use the speaker anyway. So now I use this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369399
Works fine on the Elf!

Thank you 'thedaddy'.
You were right. I disassembled the phone and found that one of the copper connections of the earpiece speaker had broken. Bought a replacement from eBay which fixed the problem.
Thank you.
Chris.

My pleasure mate glad you got ur baby working again,
and its 'thedaddyy'.......
I had the exact same problem
I had to buy an earpeace speaker for my touch on ebay for about US$15.
Look it up on ebay, and they are really easy to replace.
Look for the hong kong guys that ship it with the tools to get the job done.
Good Luck.
Hi, we are now collecting signatures for this speaker problem, I hope all the help we get a fix, thanks in advance
http://www.meinepetition.ch/petition-unterschreiben.html
i would like to sign, but i don't understand german l.
I'm sorry I did not create this, but please use a translator
I will sign for it. I had a crackled earpiece but I sold the device, waiting for the new one to arrive.
Ali, did you try to update to 1.48 ? In the change log they mentioned crystal clear voice calls. Any chance ?
Hi Xeon,
yes i´m have the new Rom.
on MP3 its really clear... on calling the first beep beep is really clear too not the
talk.
in the German forum, there are some people who have the problem. you do not?
Its still not a speaker problem but more a disfunctionality of the radiopart of the HD2 or its drivers (or the equalizer or something). You will know what i mean when you try a call via the headset. Same crakling sounds during the call....
BTW Im on 1.48 and it didnt solve the problem for me. Hopefully ths is really a problem of radio-drivers or something...
it sounds like the VU peaks and the sound gets clipped in result. Since not a lot of people have this provlem I doubt we will get a fix before new year if ever. I am shipping my hd2 back.

What I dont understand is How can some people have this problem and some other not ?
I have shipped my HD2 back for a replacement. If the new device has the same problem also then it must either be a bad batch of HD2's or an incompatibility with some carriers and the HD2 radio. Looks like I am going to give the N900 a test drive really soon.
I hope next year people stop being so forgiving to multimillion dollar empires.
Good day,
I just have bought an Motorola Bravo phone of the ebay and it has one strange issue.
When I call to someone they can't hear me, but if I turn on speaker, they hear me fine.
What could be the cause of the problem ? I have dissasembled the phone and saw that the microphone is not replacable ( it is soldered to the mainboard )
Can you guys help me ? Thanks.
Also the android version is 2.3.4 with non working camera (dunno the rom name)
Did you try a factory reset?
I would not bother flashing stock since doing that would give the seller grounds to deny your refund claim
Just contact the seller and return the phone. I think ebay covers all your purchases including shipping charges.
Too late, I just have flashed stock 2.2.1 rom with RSD Lite and the problem is still there.
But I do not get why there is totally no voice when I speak but when I turn on speaker everything is fine. Is it really hardware fault ?
/update
Tried factory reset, nothing.
Also after reflashing to stock rom I did notice that the kernel version is still the same. Maybe thats the cause of the fault ? before there was strange chinese rom in my bravo, I thouht it messed up microphone and stuff
If you flashed a stock 2.2.1 and it didn't fix it then I think it would have to be a hardware problem... unfortunately it sounds like someone tried to unload a messed up phone on you, hope you didn't pay to much for it.

But one thing I do not understand, clearly there is only one microphone in this phone, I have disassembled it, but one sure thing I can not understand, WHY MIC WORKS WHEN THE SPEAKER PHONE FUNCTION IS TURNED ON DURING THE CALL ? It works flawlessly, but if you turn in off, no sound at all at the other end.
What part of the phone software is responsible for hardware ? Is it Kernel ?
Thanks for answers guys.
I agree that its really weird... I honestly am not the best person to advise you on this particular subject I don't know much about the hardware on this phone besides specs... so if you don't get any good help on this forum (we have low dev activity) you could try a more general and active forum.

Did you solve your problem?
I have a similar problem, I can be heard good only when I speak over bluetooth.
Hey mate.
Finally I found out that Motorola Bravo has TWO microphones, one for calls, other is on the back near the camera and it is used for video recording/speaker during call.
So I think I have faulty microphone. But not 100% sure. Still dunno which part of software drives hardware, specifically microphones.
Anyways I receive no answers to this problem. So generally I think my front microphone does not work but the rear one works perfectly.
So maybe there is a way to change the usage of the microphone during the call ?
That the rear microphone would be used and not the front one.
Cause some recording apps let me do this like "TapeMachine Recorder"
