CheckROM alive AGAIN ! - Galaxy S II General

Let me start by first apologizing for my absence from the development community.
Most of my followers know the reason, but yes at times life need's to be give priority over development .
I still remember the days when a ROM release from us used to crash the servers and the numbers used skyrocket, well i am sure every one misses it as much as i do. Well let me be honest with we bought a change in this ecosystem with the kitchen concept 2yrs back with KitchnPro and today probably every one is using the kitchen concept.
I have seen developers do great work over at XDA and really appreciate what they do and the amount of time they spend on it. Apart from them what real development is happening over at xda its just Unpacking, Deodexing and then repacking!
I don't really want to do the same i really want to do something different so it will help out everyone in the community to grow.
So the team has switched focus towards creating Kick-ass apps on this Rom space that already exists and which lacks good app developers we basically plan to fill this void. We have a few apps in the cooker which are due to there release dates and we are looking forward to the community for more great ideas towards app development coz i seriously think we can contribute much more on that space than at pure ROM development.
Time and the lack of innovation is what is holding us back to create Rom's its just pointless to do it over and over agin it just gets boring after some time and this is the absolute truth of why we have not payed attention towards rom development.
Wait there is Good News too:
Lets face the fact 70% use checkrom for KitcehnPro
As a Start to our app's initiative we have decided that we will no longer keep KitchenPro locked to checkrom users.
To give back something to this great community we will be giving Kitchen Upload rites to fellow developers over at XDA so that the kitchen becomes a massive Root Market place from where you can download anything for your device anytime.
So no mater you be a SGS2 or SGS3 or Note or Note 2 user if your developer wants to use/host content on the kitchen they can.
We are in the process of building a web based Kitchen upload directory where independent app developers can host there content which can be downloaded by the general public over a foray of devices. (we looking for a kick-Ass web developer too)
Though the development process will take time but at least you know whats coming.
Rom's or not we will give app to every one for free!
looking forward to get all your responses!
Regards,
GC

i think CheckROM was the first rom i flashed the day my S2 arrived. seems like so long ago now, i guess it was lol but it was a great rom.
hope you can do something as good with JB although i'm happy enough on the stock firmware thats out at the moment

Interesting to see what the future brings after all the drama that has passed since their last release for the S2. I hope it will be a fresh start, because in the days of GB Checkrom was the best.

Community ROM ideas(nothing but love)

I hope this will come to fruition with the input and help of everyone here.
I think having a community ROM(s) where all contributors get a equal share of donations would be a great idea for our community and catch on. That way when one donates it goes to all contributors developers/bakers/and anyone else who would be contributing by managing the thread/hosting or anything else that would be a part of the new Community ROM(now that's love). The specifics can be ironed out (suggestions welcomed). I personally don't want to be a contributor just the inspiration to get this moving. So I will be out of the picture.
Any suggestions would be welcomed!!!
A few I would have are:
How would developers divide the moneys? I was thinking a trusted and liked community member who would run the thread. Or if their was a way to set up Paypal or something to divide payments to all contributors(probably unlikely)
This Community ROM should be about 100% Love and that their should be absolutely no fighting over moneys. If an individual doesn't want to receive money then they must suggest a cause to donate to.
When one donates to the Community ROM, it's exactly that, they are donating to a community!! Now thats love!
(please post in thread)
i think thats a good idea...i see certain people getting tons (litterally TONS) of donations, yet the people that are really behind a lot of that development are getting next to nothing. I see no problems there....giving credit by listing a name means nothing unless a portion of the donations are credited to each person involved.
Yeah, i agree with this. A commynity rom would be great if we all put our heads together.
Sent from my Cappy using mental telepathy, *****ezz.
I agree good idea.
the rom should be a generic rom
I am very much so interested in this idea, the question is, what kind of ROM would we be aiming to build? I'd be simply satisfied with a true, working AOSP build
I second Kaik!

I am glad to hear this. ROMCOM sounds like a good name.
Seriously though if you guys want to do a aosp then by all means do it. I just wanted to put the idea out there , if you want to get all nasty and make a baked out ROM then by all means do it. It was the concept that i wanted to see incorporated in this. It all love...
Yeah, a working community ROM would be a godsend. Look how CM worked out. If we could build and then submit for approval to one person, or the community as a whole, we could come out with something great.
Sent from my Cappy using mental telepathy, *****ezz.
I think this is a great idea!!! We should do this for AOSP!! Im glad to help out even without donations but I'd take some too . Lets all get together on an IRC for planning this out imo? Want the channel to be #captivateaosp?

I don't know. I'll be the naysayer here, and say I think diversity is best. Cooperation? Sure. Trading ideas and being open and transparent? Yes. Trying to make everyone work on one rom, whether it's the one they want or not? I dunno

I'm kind of thinking along the same lines. Community stuff is great. I like the idea. And I also agree that it's a shame that some people end up getting lots of donations while the people that came before them making their ROM possible get nothing.
But like E-man said what about the normal diversity that we'd see with ROMs?
If everyone was working on only one ROM would they still have time to work on a ROM that has all the whistles and bells, and a ROM that has the bare minimum, and a ROM that has a fancy UI, and a ROM that....?
I'm all for this, but frankly I don't think there's a lot of incentive for the folks who know what they're doing to start working on something like this at the moment. We just got our first Froyo leak and the rumors are floating around about when this will become final. My point being, most serious developers aren't going to want to start working on Eclair when Froyo is really close to being on the scene.
That said, I'd love to see a project like this take place, and I'll be more than happy to test things, troubleshoot things, and help out where I can to support such a project
Like I said before this is a layout as long as the principles are applied then if some or few or different developers and contributors want to start another one or two then by all means do it! This principal should not be contained to just one ROM but used as a template for future ROMs. It's the communal monetary sharing that should always be applied in whatever ROM the community builds.

Devs please make sure you parse apps right that is the biggest problem people forget to check also. You must get rid of all eris files. This is a sdk build and really needs alot of changes to make work.

Just go straight to honeycomb. Cant we just get a rom dump from the blurry pics of the non released motorola tablet shown today on engadget lol.
Now here's my question why must all leaked pictures be blurry??
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
So they look "leaky" haha, clear photos don't look underground enough. I think its hilarious how so many people complain about how crappy gingerbread is but then complain when they don't have it after 3 seconds of it being released!
I know this thread will get closed quickly, but I did just want to express my thanks to all the devs here for all the hard work and energy you put into our toys. You guys deserve honor for what you do because many of you have families, real jobs, and real lives and you do all this for free.
But time is money and it costs you many hours so that we can load ridiculously cool software and soup our phones up, again, for free!
Its time we started giving honor, respect, and donations where it belongs. I apologize for the way some people have treated yall here, its not okay. I also think though that those of us who are appreciative need not be silent anymore, as unexpressed gratitude comes across as ingratitude. I am on here a lot checking for updates and downloadin new roms and probably need to speak up more on the positives. I think people only post when something goes wrong: if everything's smooth we silently bask in the rom glory, but if one bug comes our way we blow up the threads.
I know I am generalizing and this doesn't apply to everyone, but this is just what I've observed. Once again I honor you guys for the the skill, talent, and generosity you have to do all these amazing roms and kernels and themes for us. I know you do it for fun but seriously thank you!
Sent from my Inc which would suck without xda devs
Thats right people, lets all just be thankful we have devs out there supporting our phone. Even if some are split between projects and can't devote full attention to the Dinc, at least its SOMEBODY. At the end of the day, the majority of us would take one look at some code and go "screw that". These people got some major skill, and I'm thankful for ALL the devs every time I see my Dinc with a CM6 bootscreen (And others can insert their own ROM touches, Myn, SR, etc..).
I've always been meaning to really thank the devs here but I never know who to really thank anymore I mean rmk thanks for virtuous ncx I'm sure that's wrong but thanks your your awesome clocks whoever made my iron man splash screen thanks thanks to everyone who has made the eighty million mods I frankenstine into my phone. Without you all my phone would be lame and with you I have something I show off everyday. Thanks a lot to everyone you guys put a lot into stuff that gives close to nothing back and that is just idk awesome lol. I'm done with this thanks rant now. Lol I think we created a thanks thread for now and not a gingerbread one.

I was going to start a new thread in general just for everyone to thank all the XDA devs working on the Incredible, but this one seems to have that vibe going. Who knows, maybe I still will make that thread. But anyways I just wanted to throw my thanks out there to the devs cause without you this whole forum wouldn't even be here. I know *some of you guys* got trashed earlier on other threads, and I'm sorry for that. I guess some people just got caught up in the smell of gingerbread fresh out of the oven. I hope you guys know that there are those of us who really do appreciate your work and although those like myself don't have the knowledge to write our own code, I personally am willing to help and contribute any way I can. So my hats off to you devs, keep fighting the good fight.

I'm working on this as well; boot looping here too. Free time is limited right now, though, so I'm not sure if I'll have anything usable before the new year.
Agree with everyone thanking the devs. You guys are awesome. Thanks for helping free us from the grasps of our carriers and use the full potential of our phones!!!!
I just want to post my thanks to all the developers. One of the reasons i purchased an android phone in the first place is the massive mod community that it had. My experience has been amazing and what some of you guys do is beyond what i can even imagine myself accomplishing with the same tools. The few asshats that get bent of shape every time something doesn't work exactly how they want are just that, the few and the loud. They do not speak for the majority and should be penalized for their disrespect.
As much as i could denounce ****ers like AndroidStu and papi, i understand where IncDoes is coming from. He, along with many other devs, give us all these things that they created in their free time completely free of charge. They owe us nothing and only share their creation with us. I am ashamed to be grouped with such ungrateful ****tards.
I'd also like to take some time to post a quick thanks to our dev community. You guys are superhuman.
If I have seen farther, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.
Yep it's easy to get in a rut and forget and/or take for granted what these guys do. I used to theme for Blackberry and especially when I had multiple themes going, it seemed to consume every ounce of my free time. And what I was doing is like tinkertoys compared to what these guys are doing...no comparison. Not even in the same universe.
There have been some unfortunate events that have occured in the last day or so but regardless of what and when 2.3 advancements hit...my sincere thanks to all who make this phone and community a better place.

I must also say thanks to all the devs the DInc has

How to optimize our brain power or how to produce the ultimate ROM?

Yes, there is a direct link between the two subjects in my discussion title.
The number of ROM’s released in this forum is about 14 (more or less).
All these bring the number of developer that released these ROM’S plus all the developers involved direct & indirect in the developing process to approx. to 20 or 25 maybe more…
Just imagining channeling all that power into one single product that will answer most if not all the user expectations on the ultimate ROM!
I am aware that it’s not easy to get consensus from all the users or even the developers for what is the ONE ROM that pleases the majority, but maybe be we should try harder to overcome these differences.
The user’s opinion we can get through a popularity poll, what features and functionality they like to see in a ROM.
To gather the developers is probably a much harder task but it is feasible to bring not all but a large number of them to the “table”.
I would like to have the forum member’s opinion on the subject and how to make this idea reality.
I posted this topic by error in the development section, can the moderator transfer it to Galaxy 3 General ?
Sorry & thanks - Itzik
great idea
How to optimize our brain power or how to produce the ultimate ROM? 2nd part
I feel the developers (or would be developers) needs, and I know that it’s a personal challenge to release a good ROM and to get the approval of his peers and users.
However, for most of the users it’s a nightmare, moving from one ROM to another, updates, kernels & themes...etc.
For every single ROM that I have installed to date something went wrong, don’t get me wrong I really believe that our group of developers is the most qualified, dedicated & smart individuals, nevertheless, we the users/ installers are going sometime through a grueling try & error process.
Today, I am on rooted stock JPQ without a single issue, but, I still love to have some of the capabilities & functions of our Galaxies S, S II big brothers & more..
The only way to achieve stability, optimize functionality & to go places where no phones got before; is unity!
And with the combine power of our developers there more chance that we will go places…
In my opinion:
It would be really nice if the following developers works together to bring an ultimate ROM (Obviously not Froyo base) which can take the user experience of G3 to a new level. I know they all are capable and do wonder if they get together. Surely they will have to forget the differences among them if there are any

How to optimize our brain power or how to produce the ultimate ROM? 3th & last part
This is not a revolution, but we the users/installers, need to wake up and tell our developers:
We love your work, respect you effort and above all applaud your contribution, however, this forum should not become a battle ground for who produces the best ROM, it should be about; combined strategy to minimizing our frustrations by delivering the best possible solution.
Moreover, the appreciation of the users will definitely generate (my opinion) extra donations for the developer’s effort.
Rafayel, great initiative…
I can see all the issues i have/would have, already disappearing....:d
I dont really see this happening, cause I dont see a rom that can unite developers. A CM/GB port could have done that when there was no such thing going on, since it would be a great leap, but after that is done I dont see anything important/great/whatever enough to unite them under one project. A different kind of unity is more important, and which is already happening.
The unity I'm talking about is not a unity under one project, but a unity as a community, as a group of people. This is already happening. Developers should have understanding and respect for each other, should help and guide each other. Sharing what they have accomplished with each other would not provide us with one ultimate rom, but with many! Everything that is being done should be collaborative, not just one rom.
I'll stop now (since I'm pretty hungry and so I am having trouble conveying my thoughts properly), but I'll just say that I'm not trying to tell devs what to do, nor am I saying that stuff like this isn't happening(it is), I just want to express what I think would be ideal.
Good idea but you know some have already tried this... Yes, im talking about armv project they started out great but look what happened its now dead. Im not saying this is impossible but think bout it, its very hard for everyone :/ i mean we each have our own projects. (i.e marcellusbes cm7) and i dont think it would work Its hard to control a group of (10-15) devs i mean if there is no boss then its very hard to try to communicate and if there is a boss then some people would complain cuz they dont want any boss/leader. Also there is a risk of someone leaking info/tweaks/mods in such a big group. I myself think this will not happen but if it will, im happy
this is all MY OPINION
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA App
I dont think anybody will have a complain if marcellusbe heads the group coz all the developers and the entire G3 community respects him a lot.
If any senior developer takes the initiative then this might become a possible thing happening.
*Thanks to clarkkov who originally thought this and expressed the idea in Indroid thread.

He says he likes to work alone!!

Say thanks to your favourite developer(s)!

Okay, so you are told to press the thanks button when you want to say thanks. But sometimes you want to say more. So here, you can say thanks to a (bunch of) developer(s) of your choice
So first of all, I'm saying thanks to DooMLoRD, for always keeping me on my toes when it comes to kernel development. He is more experienced than I and if I need some help he will help me
Second, to the devs that have the R800x, because I truly do feel sorry for you guys. But with the limited resources Verizon provided you with, you have done a great job.
I also want to say thanks especially to paxChristos, who just became a team mate of mine. His determination to get something done is unbelievable, and if you do something well, he will thank you well for it.
Lastly, I want to say thanks to Sony, for the Official ICS beta, I think we are your beta testers now And to KalleD especially, for providing a link between unofficial and official developers, a strong one. Its a shame you can't give Verizon a good kick up the arse though.

When I bought my Galaxy S, it was just the time when the phone's development picked up heavily. I started with the OCLF of Ryanza which made it faster than my brain could handle at first.
From there on I started to see what was happening around me. I saw the incredible Voodoo Project made by supercurio, which turned a good phone into a work of art, with its speed, color display and sound capabilities increased by several orders of magnitude.
And then I started following Darky. He was at first yet another theme/mod developer of the many, but then he started building something big. Passionate words, an insane update rhythm and a really cool look won me for his cause, and eventually for his tester team. His ROM grew so popular that he eventually has to create his own forum in order to manage the huge community built around it. I learned a lot of things as a tester, but what was most important is appreciating how Darky actually took a bunch of mostly clueless enthusiasts and turned them (us) into people able and willing to contribute in a fairly big measure, not because he taught us stuff directly, but because we all had to push ourselves to new reaches every day, in many aspects.
With that experience in mind, and now that a year is almost past, I can say that such knowledge, plus what I've learned, has made me not quite skilled as to be a developer (sorry, elspanish, I don't belong in that list ) but really understanding and appreciative of what developing, and particularly troubleshooting, entails beyond code.
The developers and teams that have worked seriously on our phone have been already mentioned, so I won't repeat names. All I want to say is, if you're young and eager and you're thinking about starting to develop stuff for a phone, be it the Xperia Play or any other, by all means give it a try: maybe you won't make the ultimate content for your platform (although you should aim there!), maybe you won't earn more than a couple thanks in your bar (which is not your objective anyways), but you will learn a great lot, and especially you will learn things after typing the last line of code, which are the really useful and enriching ones.
Lots of love, good luck, and start your engines.

Thanking the following devs, although I just KNOW I'll leave someone off my list accidently!
Supervenom - for bringing the AOKICS Beta 2.3b ROM to the table. (although that ICS Beta part was a bit misleading, since it's really CM)
KeiranFTW - especially for the 4/18/2012 ICS Kernel!
DooMLoRD - for ALL your kernels !!
paxChristos - For taking up where Chevyowner left off with the CDMA for CM9 dev
Chevyowner - Miss you, man
Leraeniesh - For GBTweaked of course and for trying with ICSTweaked.
FXP - you know why

Stay classy, netizenmt.
Honestly, I would be doing a great injustice to all who develop and aspire to become developers by listing individuals' names here. After all, in the spirit of open source, I'd have to start with Google, cyanogen, and to any other developer who's ever started a project that we've stolen borrowed from.
Instead of giving individual thanks, I'll tell a little story. My first android phone was an LG Ally. Not much in the way of a development scene there, but we had some incredibly awesome developers, Trident being the first and foremost, in my mind. Then I moved on to the Samsung Fascinate. If anyone has looked over in their section of XDA, development is still going strong. I still have my Fascinate, but I switched to the Play on an upgrade simply for its gamepad. (I don't need to tell you why, do I?) It was this phone that made me stop and really appreciate the development that goes on with a phone, especially one that was pretty much designed to prevent such things from happening. In fact, after seeing the dedication that this phone has gotten from all of the developers here, it's inspired me to start learning more about development and the Android's system, itself. I would be much more learned by now if I wasn't so lazy about reading up on the stuff. (However, if one of you developers is willing to take me on as an apprentice, hit me up!)
So not only do I thank the developers for this phone, but developers for every phone available. We can't forget the community, though. Despite it's few exceptions, this particular phone's community is very tight-knit and helpful, even when it comes to keeping the lulz coming.

Not everyone on my list is necessarily a developer, some are just helpful people.
I would like to thank;
Bin4ry and Androxhyde, for the ever-so-useful flashtool.
DooMLorD, for his awesome kernels and quality of work despite working on so many devices simultaneously, and his one-click script for the ZergRush root exploit.
KeiranFTW, for taking the time during his busy school life to make great roms, and accompanying kernels. Also a great tweak app.
Blagus, for his work regarding bootloader unlocking and the Omnius program.
Alejandrissimo, for helping people unlock their phones remotely using his SETool dongle, and not even turning a real profit.
pvyparts, for his work with the locked bootloader CWM installer, and the T.E.A.M. ROM
Yifanlu for his native PS emulator work.
Paul for his n64 emulator, which is the only one to use the touchpads correctly
Iridaki, for their work with T.E.A.M. and themed apps.
Nabeel_Nabs, for his great ICS theme.
Thomassafca, for his AWESOME themes for both gingerbread and ICS
paxChristos for his work with the Verizon (cdma) models

Asking Someone to Create a Jellybean ROM for Note 10.1

As you know, Jellybean has released worldwide. Now there are marked differences between the leaked version (slightly more features although more buggy) and the official release.
I'd like someone to develop one which incorporates some of the features left out of the official release and more. I realise the gravity of this request and it will require the skill of some of the best developers here.
The features I'd like are as follows:
The stock Touchwiz Jellybean etc with the addition of;
The ability to do split screen for third party apps, screen recording (with the option of including voice), flash, ability to rearrange mini apps to fit as 3 or 4 windows layout on a single screen see 3:27 on kingdenzel92's youtube video "Galaxy Note 10.1 (N8000) Jelly Bean Leak In-Depth Review N8000DDALI1". Youtube being incorporated into the video player so this can be moved around (this was in the Jellybean leak), make sure the switch is there which allows you to change between eraser in S-Note.
No messing around with other stock apps, or changing themes please.
Only the greatest of developers can achieve this task.
Thanks,
NASSAfellow.

Lol.
I'd like someone to give me a million dollars... will it happen? Hell no.. I don't get people. If you want something and its not be offered by the community then learn to do it yourself and stop expecting everyone to do things for you. If you don't know how then do like the rest of us do and learn on your own. People need to take initiative instead of expecting to be spoon fed everything.

It should also turn my stylus into a magic wand and my stereo speakers into 5.1 surround sound. Lets also not forget that it must turn my capacitive screen into a solar panel to sustain itself indefinitely without worrying about running out of battery power.

I have no idea why you guys are so cynical.
This guy has given great ideas to create a great rom.
Yes, it requires a lot of skill and time to accomplish such thing, what doesn't? But it's not impossible, and it would be freakin' awesome.
Currently all i see in our development section are same roms with same functionality, just with different themes.(except CM of course)
There is no way i'm switching from stock, because there is nothing better, but if what he describes existed...
The real Joke is that stock 8013 is still ICS.

There's nothing wrong with a "please build me a ROM" request as such, however I wouldn't expect anyone to pickup the gauntlet from a random post in the general section.
You'd be far better off installing one of the current crop of JB ROMS and then making specific requests in that thread, you may find that some of the current crop have most of the features you require anyway.

No one said they weren't good ideas (or bad ones) The problem is this is a development community. It's not a ROM requesting forum. This forum was created for DEVELOPERS to come share ideas, mods, etc.. It was not created to serve the end user. It was not created for people to come requesting things. It is here for people who want to LEARN to make their devices better.. Not expect/request people to do it for them. I knew NOTHING about android 2 years ago and if I had this mentality I would still be a noob that didn't know anything but yet expected others to do it for me. If people are constantly spoon fed things then why should they learn? There are guys that have been using android a lot longer time than me yet I know tons more then they do.. Why? Because I read, I learned, I put in my time. I didn't just go around requesting whatever I wanted. If there was something I wanted and it was not offered by the community I LEARNED how to do it myself and this community gave me the knowledge to learn on my own.

Actually you're wrong. It's very wrong to come to a development community and ask people to do things for you. Now if the OP actually wanted to learn something instead of being spoon fed, then there is nothing wrong with that. But to come to a development community where devs work for free and be like "I want someone to build me a rom that does A, B and C, now someone build it for me" Is just bad form and bad taste. If you want something that the community doesn't offer LEARN to do it yourself instead of imposing on others to do it for you
Too true graffixnyc and one of the reasons I stopped releasing roms on xda a while ago .
Too many people demanding ****e without any respect for the sheer amount of effort involved by people donating their spare time.
I always have been keen to encourage and support others to learn, but some people think that they don't need to contribute other than through criticism.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Basically what people are possibly trying to say is that, xda is a community of developers who share their work amongst us little people, not Burger King where you can have it your way.
Point, requesting a new feature in a ROM for a Dev you support is one thing, but this thread is no good.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
The guy said just the idea to see if someone could create it but yes that ain't gon happen but put a 100$ bounty then devs will make it happen lol money talks!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
The Dev section is for development. There's nothing wrong with making a request for something you can't do yourself. He's not demanding anything. If your not talented enough to do it let alone try you shouldn't even be responding to this thread
