"Bootloop", "can't mount /data" and "USB depuration disabled"
Hi,
I've been looking around for a way to solve this problem, but every possible solution I've found stuck at some point.
Here's the dramma.
I've got a Galaxy Y GT-S5360b (Brazilian), rooted, with GSM company custom ROM (gingerbread 2.3.6).
Some days ago, it crashed whille executing an app. I took off the battery and tried to reboot, but it went to a bootloop. At this point, the charge was very low, than I recharged it, tried to boot again: bootloop.
I went to Recovery, wipe data, wipe cache: bootloop.
Decided to flash it. As it doesn't go any further than Recovery Mode, Kies doesn't recognize it. Than, I download an original Brazilian stock ROM, which consisted, actually, in a CWM restore.
Tried to apply it, allways wipping data and cache at every step. At the end of the restoration, it says "Unable to mount /data" and aborts.
I formated everything available at the advanced options of this CWM that came with the restore ROM, tried to mount /data manually, no success.
Odin doesn't see it either, because the USB depuration wasn't enabled, then I can't use many other options.
I also tried a stock ROM which is .zip and good to just be put at the sdcard and executed, but it comes to "installation aborted".
So, if is there anyway of recovering the system whithout USB connection. Or if is there a way of enabling it for USB connection.
Thanks for your help.
Re: "Bootloop", "can't mount /data" and "USB depuration disabled"
download stock rom and flash via odin...for odin to recognize enter download mode...
just press volume DOWN + home + power key.
Now odin should show your phone in com port.
Install pda csc modem boot and system files.from stock rom.
gud luck,

Well... I though the USB depuration would need to be enabled exactly because Odin is not seeing it.
If this option is not necessary for the recognition from Odin, than I think I might got even another problem....
Thanks
Re: "Bootloop", "can't mount /data" and "USB depuration disabled"
bootloop is a common problem for custom rom when the rom is not flashed properly..if my above method works then it is fine.try taking cwm backup and recover it
try wiping dalvik cache and ensure u r in download mode not recovery mode for odin.
If I encounter similar problen then i would use logcat and adb to push files for rom installation that shows error too
Sent from my GT-S5360 using xda app-developers app
bootloop is a common problem so just relax first and take a long breathe....then
1.Go to android development thread HERE
2.Download a stock rom for your country
3.flash it following proper instruction
4.Enjoy

I just saw where I was getting it wrong... I was used to enter Recovery Mode, but, since I'm not a developer and never did anything about the ROM before, I was not seeing properly the "small" difference between entering recovery and download mode, I was thinking the download function was automatic when connecting odin, but that USB depuration was necessary...
Thanks everybody... apart from the scratches and everything, I just got myself a brand new old phone...
Thanks again... it's working now.

Well... there's a lot of spam at every forum... but this seemingly little matter has its implications...
Asking for thumbs up can be considered sad, it's true, but reputation is built around it, and myself, as a new member, didn't initially pay this small price for this good willed help.
So, the comment, don't say it, hit it, is quite reasonable... and educational
But, anyway, under all circumstances, the forum is a place for mutual help and sharing knowledge and experiences... not for sparks and stings... or even spams....
Thanks again, everybody... in words and thumbs... :good:

Actually this isn't really about this the guy that commented goes around looking for any and all reason to comment negatively he does this alot and always spams my threads if someone does something wrong and u try to help he attacks if u try to help he attacks it's ridiculous and wasn't even the first time today he did it and instead of making a contribution to the community he keeps attacking the people who do his reasoning is often ridiculous and unfounded
I.e the thanks feature was added so users don't say thanks and add to clutter in the forum what I said is a clever (and very popular) way of alerting users to this but he just sees another opportunity to launch unwarranted attacks when being extremely hypocritical
I.e he makes a useless post and attacks people and say that the reason is that their post is useless I was pointing out how hypocritical he was anyways since your new check out my other threads

Delete all Motorola Drivers and then reinstall them. May want to do a restart on your PC after all that before attempting to install any ROM.

here's a video i made of whats going on with the phone.

i don't know how i messed it up, i was just doing stuff in CWM and when i tried rebooting my phone, it was just stuck at the samsung screen. it didn't actually show the boot animation, just the part that says samsung in white letters. when i try to apply sdcard:update.zip i get the following:

im going to try it in a sec, but just two questions. one, isn't this just to change your boot logo? and do i need the continuum pit.pit file?
Yes, it does give the ability to change the boot logo... But when doing it, i noticed that after flashing, the stock recovery does this weird thing where it wipes everything, even when normally it won't... after that, it worked again...... Just know you will loose your data But whatev's
and no, not necessarily..
If that doesn't work, which is probably won't, then reflash the stock recovery, then try the cwm v4 adryn recovery, then try the stock kernel, and then the system image, all in Odin... In that order
oh, and cobitts15... Your dumb... always do a nandroid backup, even if its something simple...
and you are using the wrong Odin... try doing a wipe from within the stock recovery, and if that doesn't work, then download the RIGHT ODIN and flash that file... then go through the steps easily found within the development thread and get cwm working...
can i use heimdall instead of odin? i have a mac

Define "doing stuff". That could be anything, like constantly tapping the volume button scrolling through one screen, or playing with the mounts and formatting options. The more detail you can give about what you were doing, the easier it will be to solve the problem.

What ODIN should I be using? Is there any way to flash it back to stock factory rom? I really didn't want any mods/roms, just wanted my Google search
Thanks again.
Okay so I have an update, I got the phone working and calling again. I was finally able to flash it with stock kernal and system files using the proper version of Odin (thank you trailblazer101) in this thread.

Only problem now is that my 3g or wireless doesn't work, any ideas to fix this?
can you go to settings, about phone, and tell me what is says for baseband?
si400.0.6v.dl17
Hmm... I would've thought that was going to be blank....
Well, all I can say is to try flashing the clean rom in cwm, and do a user wipe...
And it wouldn't hurt to first try to reactivate... Go to dialer and type in *228 then when you hear the lady's options choose 1...
Try that first xD
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA Premium App
I tried to do the re-activate thing, still nothing.
I'm getting a replacement handset sent to me for free but I wanna try and see if I can fix this before I send it back just for experience sake so at this point if I brick it trying new things I don't care because I got a new phone.
So if anyone has any experimental ideas let me know
I had the same thing happen to me a month ago, but it hung on the verizon screen instead of the samsung screen. Seems our stock dumps don't contain the information to do DNS resolving. If you notice, the WiFi and 3G are both out, because you can't get DNS to work properly. I feel like if we bindiff the dumps with the actual phone we could get an idea of where we can't get, but i guess our problem is actually accessing the part we aren't getting.

Ok, here's the deal. I was turned on to heimdall by our beloved Trailblazer101, so I tried to flash a rom via that. Something got borked in it, and now i have no download mode(when i try to boot into dl mode, either via vol down or cwm, it takes me right back to stock recovery), and I'm getting error
E:can't mount dev/block/st111 (invalid arguement) in stock recovery, and
E: Can't mount dev/block/st111 (File still exists)
E: Can't mount recovery/log
E: Can't open recovery/log
in CWM.
I can still flash successfully, but flashing kernel and a known good rom has no effect.
I'm thinking, even though I never did anything with the bootloaders, and it never got tp factory.rfs before heimdall crashed, there might have been something that got screwed up in the boot.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it. Maybe one of the experts could find a way to get something in a flashable zip?
OK, i do have adb in cwm... so I can push via adb. As soon as I figure out what to push, where
and you really asked this in the wrong section...
I have the cure. Will post in 1 hour.

Good news! Chainfire answered my email and he said that it is fine that i keep doing my job using his SuperSU! So i hope that his future "SuperSU updates" are not blocked and be unzipable.
I want to say that SuperSU is not opensourced anymore, tried to get in contact with chainfire again but no answers.. so I am not allowed to add busybox to his job and redistribute anymore, and i will NOT try to brake his .zip copyrights with others softwares, stop asking. For now, this project is closed, maybe there´s a different way in the future.
I saw a script like this around here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794) but has never been updated again, so I made a script (based on Phil3759 and Chainfire Script, Credits to them) with an updated version of SuperSU and this is the result!
It Root any phone in any ROM using the SuperSU 1.86 from Chainfire and Busybox 1.20.2 from Linus Yang.Only.
I actually did this script to me and my friends. I'm just sharing. I'll keep it updated with Chainfire and Phil3759 releases, need it or not (If you don´t like the superuser that comes with Phil'z kernel and you want to go to SuperSU again, just flash this ).
Chainfire recommends that: "If you just upgraded to Android 4.3, you need to manually re-root, updating the app will not suffice."
You just have to put this in the mini SD card and flash it as an Update in recovery mode then.. its ROOTED!
(If you have CWM and is going to flash this for any reason, you can copy the file to the internal memory.)
To get in recovery mode turn your phone off, now press Power Button + Volume Up + Center Button for a while.
Send your feedback!

Hi!
Yes, this is the easiest way to root JB, but this does NOT install CWM recovery.
To have CWM Recovery installed permanently you will have to flash a supported Kernel, but you will have to do a little more research to learn how to flash a kernel.
If you really need a kernel with a CWM Recovery i suggest you to use PhilZ kernels, here is the link to his kernel thread. :good::good:
Good luck!

Hello Danpamio,
thanks for your effort. But it still says "signature verification error". The Galaxy Tab 3 seems to be a problematic device.

Hmm.. srry pal, i have no solution for your Tab 3 for now... Ill keep researching and any news I'll let you know
I tried this on a RK29xx device running 4.0.3. It says it installs fine but nothing is different. No SU installed and no root.

try it again ... maybe your file was not flashed correctly... redownload and update it through recovery..
Hmm root any ROM huh, gonna try this on my uncle's s2 HD LTE, he's been bugging me to root it ever since he got his phone cause he's scared to do it himself
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Try it! Then give me your feedback, i specially used it on all S2 i rooted..
Did not work on "Swipe MTV Slash" (MTK MT6577, Android 4.1.2).
Tried both signed and newsigned. The update terminates with aborted message.
So what i did. I tried both zip but it got aborted then i enabled signature verification and it installed, first i tried the one with new sign it worked and restarted the phone. But i dont see any su app on my device or anything else. I tried to download su but i do not have root. So i tried the other zip
it also installed without any error and restarted device but still no root or su app.Am I missing something. I tried it on a Toughshield R500+ with 4.1.2.
Thanks
