My touch slide on att?

curious to know if any of you guys have your my touch slide on ATT network?

No one has this on AT&T yet?

It just barely released on on T-Mobile. A lot of people aren't willing to pay $430 for a phone if they can't get 3G on it, and the rest are stuck in a T-Mobile contract.

ooh, so they can't get 3g if it's on the ATT network? 430? I've seen tons of them go for 380's, some unlocked as well.
Well, if it doesn't get 3g, I guess it helped me make my mind up to go with the Nexus One.

tmobile and at&t are on two different 3g frequencies. A quick google finds this information.

according to info i found on the net:
"In the U.S., T-Mobile and AT&T both use GSM technologies, but there are fundamental incompatibilities in their 3G services. AT&T runs its 2G and 3G services at 850 and 1900 MHz. T-Mobile's 3G service uses 2100 MHz to transmit and 1700 MHz to receive. "
Yet the htc my touch slide supports the following:
Frequency Bands GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900
UMTS: 2100
so should work unless article is incorrect -- can someone post the att and tmobile frequencies?

Just with the G1 and mytouch, these phones are specified to use certain bands for 3G and certain bands for edge/2G. This is a Hardware thing. It can support GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900 UMTS: 2100, (and 1700 I assume should be in there since tmobile uses 1700 for 3G) But the hardware is built to use ONLY 1700-2100 for 3g.

Could you let us know where you got it unlocked and for how much? There are two phone companies in Canada - Mobilicity and WIND Mobile - who have the same 3G frequencies as T-Mo but no Android phones! And we would love to know where to unlock the MT3G Slide. Thanks!

I have seen plenty that are unlocked and for sale on eBay for roughly 380ish

Can anyone confirm that a particular web site's unlock code worked for the MT3G Slide?

why would you unlock it to use it on a inferior network? especially because 3g will not work EVER! the phones frequencies do not support att 3g

I can't speak for the AT&T poster's intentions, but *Canadians* would unlock it to use the phone on WIND Mobile, Mobilicity and soon Vidéotron, which are all AWS carriers. This is why I'm trying to find out where to unlock the phone successfully.

Ebay it man, they're going unlocked there for about the same as new/no contract at tmobile

I'm using the slide on a regional carrier that uses the same 3g frequencies as t-mobile. Just because the other major US players don't use the same ones doesn't mean no one else does.

I used cellunlock.net, with 50% off coupon (easy to google, there are lots of them), it was only $10, got the code in 2 hours both times.

[Q] question for 3G frequencies in Canada

I have a tmobile vibrant phone (hardware only). According to the phone specs i SHOULD be able to get 3g signal with my fido sim card since the phone seems to support all the same frequencies as the Canadian i9000.... but i only get edge.
If you guys are getting 3G with fido or rogers sim cards, did you have to set anything special in the phone settings?

Vibrant T-mobile 3G runs on 1700
that is why you only get EDGE (2G)
Fido, Rogers & Bell runs on 850 & 1900 for 3G

On my way to work today this is what i saw in the network box.
inside my house - EDGE
Outside my house - 3G
back country roads to work - i saw just G or no signal (normal i loose signal with my iphone and blackberry on there)
at work - back on edge
So i DO get 3g somehow! or is it just teasing me by showing 3G?

i read somewhere that the t-mo vibrant does have 1900 as one of its 3g bands, so this is why your phone has been able to pick up 3g at times. the problem for you is that rogers/fido mainly use the 850 band. i had the nokia n97 mini that had the 1900 but no 850 and while driving around most of the gta i would get 3g, but when i went into buildings, houses, etc, it would drop to edge.

Maybe your phone supports 1900 and not 850 MHz? Or the oposite? That would explain why you would get bad UMTS coverage.

To my knowledge the T-Mobile Vibrant does not support the major Canadian 3g bands. It is quad band 2g, which is why you are able to get edge but it is only 2 band 3g, at least according to this spec sheet:

T-mobile uses the 1700 and 2100 UMTS bands for 3g, Bell/Rogers/Telus/Virgin/Fido use 850/1900 UMTS bands for 3g. Therefore the 3g radio on the Vibrant is not compatible with these networks.
However, WIND mobile uses the 1700/2100 UMTS bands for 3g and you can use unlocked T-Mobile phones to their full ability on Wind's network. Wind is only in major urban centres though so this may not help you if you're not in the city. Hopefully you are as Wind has a pretty sweet unlimited data plan!

If they're right that the Vibrant is somehow capable of AT&T 3g, it would mean the phone has to be tri-band UMTS: 850, 1700, 2100 (or 1700,1900,2100) as AT&T uses the 850/1900 bands like Rogers/Bell/Telus.
This doesn't make sense to me why T-Mobile would do this. The 850/1900 bands are really only used in North America on competing carriers, so it doesn't give the phone "world" capabilities, the 2100 band does that. Why they would add a feature who's only purpose is to make the phone work on competitors' networks is a mystery to me but Engadget seems to have a picture that confirms it. If this is true than an unlocked Vibrant should technically be able to work on Rogers/Bell/Telus/Fido/Virgin 3g, but only if it is unlocked. I'm pretty sure that T-Mobile sells their phones SIM locked to their network, have you unlocked yours?
~Edit if it does have 1900 as the third band the above posters are correct in that you will get minimal 3g coverage as 850 is the primary in Canada.

yeah i wanted to switch to Wind Mobile for the $35 true unlimited data plan, until i found out they don't work with normal 850/1900/2100 phones

Vibrant 3g on ATT

I have been reading on Howard forums on here on xda and can not get my vibrant to switch to 3g on my att service.
when i open the service menu with my att sim card in i am greeted with "RAT Selection Option is Restricted" under the band selection menu.
Without my att sim card in i can select 2100, 1900, 1700, 850 under the WCDMA menu
I live in an area that supports the 850 and the 1900 frequencies.
what am i doing wrong?

You do not have to do anything in the phone to get AT&T 3G in the Vibrant. If you live in an area where AT&T is using the 1900mhz spectrum you will get 3G. IF you are not getting 3G is because they are using the 850mhz and the Vibrant can not get 3g from that band.

what the person above me said, although you can choose the 850 3g band on the vibrant, it doesn't actually work. Chances are your area is 850 not 1900, and att is planning on upgrading all 1900 areas to 850. good luck.
one last possibility i just thought of, maybe you have a really old sim that doesn't support 3g?

i did a test run up to another major city and bam! full 3g. A few test runs of it and i was pulling 400-515kb/s down and 90-100kb/s up. Just amazing. I might actually buy a att phone with those speeds! edge is currently at 20-22kbs down by 5-15kb/s up. I just really like never having a contract.
My city is newer and smaller so it does not have the 1900 band. however according to wikipedia there is a Canadian version that does. but meh, i change phones so often its not like i wont find another diamond. I only bought my g1 because of xda, same with the hd2, and the vibrant.
It makes me drewel thinking about a windows 7 phone + android. Only because w7p has some amazing games. But doubtful since tegra will not have an open source driver, as far as i can research.

With my Vibrant on Tmo's 3G I'm getting 5922 kbps down & 611 kbps with latency @ 78 ms.
Alot of home broadband stats can't compete with these 3G stats.
I just wonder how much faster a G2 could realistically run in my area.

vibrant problems
I too have a Vibrant on ATT. ATT is running 1900 in my area and my vibrant gets it fine, for a few minutes. If i turn the vibrant off and back on ill be on att 3g for a good 10 minutes at blazing speeds, but then it switches to EV and never comes out of it...any ideas?

Multiple times ive looked up this phone in the past. Multiple times my dreams have been shut down because the frequency bands arent the same as Telus Canada. Multiple times have people told me, no, its impossible, wont happen. Then how come both the Windows Phone 7 and the dell venue pro site both have 1900/850 MHz EDGE? i realise EDGE isnt the fastest bug around but its much faster than GSM and its still is by definition 3G. and i was led under the impression that only GSM would work.
So what im wondering is that, ive heard that a new model for US is coming out in January, would the GSM/EDGE frequency be the same, just with 850/1900 UMTS difference?
And basically all i would be waiting for is a bamp from 3G to 3G+?

Telus 3G+
Telus in Nova Scotia HSPA+ network runs on 1900/850 (PCS/CLR). Its probably the same frequencies across the country.
I'm a new user, so I can't post links yet... however if you look at the telus mobility page and go to the Coverage tab, it'll tell you that they use 1900/850 for their 3G+
the wikipedia article on UMTS frequency bands also says telus uses 1900 and 850.
HSPA+ is part of the UMTS family. The Venue Pro lists UMTS 1900 and 850 as bands it can get... I'm assuming that means it can handle HSPA+
I'm just making assumptions, but it seems like the Venue Pro will run the HSPA+ network on Telus/Bell in Canada.
I sure hope it can, because I want a venue pro on telus myself!

Dont make a mistake, EDGE is NOT 3G and the frequencies the DVP uses for 3G, 900/1700/2100 will not give you 3G on the 850/1900 frequencies, that is for EDGE only.

That is correct.
Only 3 providers in Canada will enable you to get 3G with the Dell Venue Pro.
Those providers are Wind Mobile, Videotron and Mobilicity.
The phone supports AWS 1700, not UMTS 850 or 1900.

Ah! you're right. I looked at the phone specs again, and it listed GSM 1900, not UMTS 1900
well... that put a serious damper on my fun ... I really wanted one, but not if it can only do 2G around where I live.
Now to see what bands the omnia7 supports... I hope I don't have to settle for one of the ****ty phones released in canada. Seriously, we got all the worst ones.

not until t-mobile has completed refarming its 1900 frequency to HSPA+ ...at least for the international and AT&T models. im not sure about the Sprint version.

I heard that the Sprint variant of the S3 has a sim slot since its an international phone. All you have to do is root and unlock it and it should work on T-Mobile 4G.

That's not an accurate statement but it makes the point—non-T-Mobile GS3s won't work on T-Mobile's 3G/4G until they redeploy from 1700 to 1900 MHz.
T-Mobile hasn't put out a time table. AFAIK parts of downtown San Francisco (around the Moscone Center), parts of San Diego, and parts of Birmingham, Alabama (i.e. relatively nowhere) are the only places TMO has this configuration deployed.

That's not exactly true parts of Bellevue and Seattle Washington have been reformed too so I'm sure there's more areas

it did not.. i got a gsm phone from at&t thats unlocked to work on tmo. but i cant get it to work on tmo 4G.. thats why he didnt answer my question.

Look up t mobile 1900 mhz refarming. Thats ur best shot. Other than that right now signs are pointing to no hardware support for t mobiles currnt hspa bands. Basically, cross your fingers that tmobile changes to your frequency in your area with this phone. Tmobiles doin cuz they want to steal awayviphine users so they do have incentive. We'll be on that train too tho.

Yes, t-mobile uses the same tech, but is gimped as far as the 1900mhz band goes. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a definitive adviser as to when they will overhaul their services.

i'm a bit confused here.. maybe you, r3a1ist or someone can help. i called tmo and they said that the samsung galaxy s3 works on their 1700 - 2100 while at&t has 850 - 1900.

Never, probably… I don't have a source (you can Google it) but T-Mobile does not have enough spectrum in NYC to do much shuffling.

No, it won't.
The Sprint model apparently does not work. The AT&T may work later this year depending on your area. Are you asking whether you want to make a $500+ bet that it will? That's up to you—I wouldn't.

1) It works on the frequencies you posted. Let's rewrite that:
GSM/EDGE (aka 2G): 850, 900, 1800, 1900 Mhz
UMTS/HSPA+ (aka 3G/4G): 850, 1700 (aka AWS), 1900 MHz
Is it less confusing now?
2) AT&T uses 850 Mhz and 1900 MHz for their HSPA+ service.
3) TMO as of July 2012 uses 1700 MHz for most their HSPA+ service. T-Mobile will support HSPA+ on 1900 MHz in some parts of the USA by the end of the year. Very few areas (T-Mobile has only officially disclosed a tower near the Moscone Center, in San Francisco) do so now. Concrete details are sparse and nonspecific.

one last question.. do you think that if i got the tmo version of the SGS3 and when LTE is released that the phone will no longer use HSPA? when LTE comes out, will the phone no longer use fast internet?

Yeah… that's a complicated question whose answer I don't yet understand myself.
TMO is doing their 1900 MHz refarming to free up 1700 MHz for use w/ LTE. Stuff I'm wondering:
What happens to older 3G/4G devices that don't support 1900 MHz? Do they lose their 3G/4G Internet? Note: the GS3 supports 1900 MHz, and does not have this problem.
How is TMO going to deploy in spectrum crunched areas (like NYC)? They don't have enough spectrum to move everyone over to 1900 MHz—does this mean 1700 MHz HSPA+ will be cut off when they bring 1700 MHz LTE online? Your non-LTE GS3 might lose 3G/4G Internet in this situation—but I doubt TMO would do this to anyone with a phone still in contract.
All in all, make your purchasing situation on the situation today. The next new thing is always around the corner.

Your non-LTE GS3 might lose 3G/4G Internet in this situation—but I doubt TMO would do this to anyone with a phone still in contract.

hi tamasrepus... just to let you know, when i called the tmo rep like i told you in my previous post, he said that the SGS3 will use LTE.. but after your answers discredited him, i dont believe him. i guess we got to wait and see.

But LTE is a gsm technology, currently sprints/Verizons phone (Verizon razr maxx works on international/att networks after a recent update) is a hybrid, but they have weird lte frequencies, I've read that all US carriers will have incompatible freqs, but qualcom is building a chip that does them all plus European ones.

It's simple, T mobile phone works on At&t HSPA but not LTE. At&t phone works on its own HSPA and LTE but not T moble 1700 HSPA. We've been trying to see if we can make it work on t mobiles 1700 hspa band, no luck yet. To make matters more uncertain. T mobile says they're refarming their 2g/edge spectrum to work on At&t's 1900 HSPA band. The At&t phone out of the box would be able to pick up this 1900 HSPA t mobile refarm. Although reports of this actually occuring are sporadic and they also fired the CEO who's plan it is a couple weeks ago. LoL. If you get that, that's the complete break down. So here you go:
T mobile phone - Supports both T mobile and At&t HSPA 4g speeds, no LTE of any kind.
At&t phone- Supports At&t LTE and HSPA only right now, t mobile HSPA "may" be available for it's antenna's in the future.
