Well, this is very odd. I ordered a Nexus 4 16GB (via FromUs2Eu.nl; phone not available in the Netherlands). Today I received my phone, however, there is only 8GB storage space! On the box it clearly says that it should be the 16Gb version. The IMEI number on the box is the same as the phone, but the serial numbers differ. Has anyone heard of this before???
Moreover, this company didn't give me the official play store receipt, so at this moment, I feel like I'm pretty screwed. Hope fromus2eu will sort this out quickly, but I have to wait and see. Any other people that have heard of this company and have had a same experience?
I have not heard about the company, but there have been many users experience similar problems. Flashing/returning to stock somehoe bugged and the phone only recognize 8GB.
Wipe everything and restock usually solve the problem.

I just picked up a Venue Pro and I noticed in the back of the battery there was an imprint on it stating it was an engineering sample, but the numbered code (starts with CN-) on it was different than on the device itself. Are they supposed to match? If it is an engineering sample device I could format a new microsd card, correct?
If it helps, hardware revision number: 112.576.2.0, radio hardware version: 8250
Where/when did you get the phone? There were some engineering batteries in the phones at Microsoft Stores for the WP7 launch, but I haven't heard of any since then.
What's the firmware revision?
just got it a week ago, used though. no idea when/where they got it.
firmware revision: 2250.1500.7004.029
its an 8gb, mostly curious b/c i wanna throw a 32gb card in it
That has to be a unit from the original launch at the Microsoft stores. I would make sure you do not have an WiFi issues since many of those units did have bugs. I had to return the one that I got on launch because of a fee issues. As far as I know the MS store units were the only ones thatbhad engineering sample batteries.

What wifi issues am I looking for, I rarely use wifi. Does the engineering sample battery have anything to do with the phone though? I thought I read somewhere engineering samples are best for formatting the microsd cards, was wondering if that was going to reduce the risk of bricking it.
Can't test to much, still waiting on my simcard to be activated. They lag on dealer line activations.

You should be OK. At the time of the launch in the MS stores, the battery for the phones had the "engineering sample" batteries. Dell and Microsoft informed people at the time that the batteries should function as regular production ones. Apparently the phones had these batteries put in by mistake. As for the phones themselves, they were not pre production phones, but production ones.
As for what gshocker said, there were a lot of Wi-Fi hanging issues that are separate from the battery issue. You might want to make sure it is not constantly hanging and freezing.

That is most likely a device sold at a Microsoft Store for the WP7 launch. It probably cannot connect to secure (WPA, WEP) WiFi networks among other things.
Eventually Microsoft Store got updated devices with the same firmware as those sold through Dell, which is 2250.1500.7004.105. You may be able to get it exchanged at a MS store or through Dell for a newer device with updated firmware.

Lol craigslist where I get all my phones. Risk/reward lol.
Still haven't been able to test the wifi freeze issue. I can connect to my secure home network just fine though. Tmobile is dragging on activating my lines.
Thanks for clearing up the engineering sample thing for me. Now to get a 32gb card.

Well the description does state it's a pre order and won't ship til May 27

Wow, good luck with that purchase. I'm definitely interested if you actually receive the real thing at that price--it seems too good to be true.

I almost purchased 4 phones from THIS GUY at $600 a piece (at least 2 he said)... but I purchased more than 3 I would get "big discount" ....
So totals were $1,800.00 .. So I decided to make an IP trace. He is supposed to be in Texas, but it returned from yahoo servers in CA.

Oh, something else,.. the email address he is using was apparently made may 9th... BEWARE!
Hi
I saw this same listing and enquired. I received the exact same reply from Elise (no taxes etc) and I followed up with some questions because it all seemed too good to be true and I didn't think the 64GB was even available until after the 16GB had been out a while. She replied saying her business partner who is also her brother works for Samsung, hence the bulk buying they are able to do. When I asked about the closed listing (it ended during our E-mail correspondence) she said she had to close the listing because she was receiving too many requests. She did say it'd all go through eBay still, so that buyer and seller were both protected. I had to reply with details of what I wanted (pebble blue or marble white) plus my address INCLUDING MY EBAY USERNAME. She claimed this was to check my feedback but I think it's so they can generate a convincing spoof E-mail from eBay.
She said I'd receive an invoice from eBay soon and to let her know when I did.
Sounds very fishy! Her English is poor too.
I'll let you know what the eBay E-mail looks like.
Cheers all

Yes mate, I know how you feel. I got straight on to my credit card company this morning & told them to not pay out on this transaction, also contacted Paypal & they told me not to worry as even if the sale has gone through I can still get my money refunded from them. Just annoying, but I suppose its as they say, if the deal looks to good to be true it probably is. Still annoying though.
It's good to know PayPal will cover us in these situations. And it's also sickening to know there are so many ****s like this out there trying to rip people off.
Still no 'E-mail from eBay' to be seen though!
You're exactly right, I myself kept on thinking if it's too good to be true, it probably is, but when it revolves around a sweet piece of kit like the GSIII it's hard not to be intrigued!
And good work on the IP lookup Candanga!

So earlier this week I received my pre-order Nexus 7 from Google Play, but shortly thereafter realized that the device only had 5.9gb of available storage -- a bad sign, since I had ordered the 16gb version.
I've been in Google customer service limbo for the last week; they're supposedly going to contact me to arrange for a replacement, but I'll believe that when it happens. Anyway, in the interim I've been wondering -- could this actually be a 16gb unit that was mis-partitioned? Every label in the shipment appears to say it's a 16gb unit -- I never would have known otherwise if I hadn't stopped to check the free storage before spending my Play credit.
So is there any way to determine what the actual storage capacity of the unit is? Do the device numbers take particular formats for the 2 versions? Is there some way through ADB to get the total storage size (regardless of whether they partitioned it as an 8gb)?
The box has 8GB or 16GB on it in the barcode area. That is the only thing I know as I ordered both and that was the only way to tell them apart.

Yes, that's my problem. My order on Google Play, the slip in my packing materials, the barcode on the box -- all say 16GB. But when I fired up the device and went to the storage settings, it said I only had 5.92 gigs of storage available.
So either there was a massive logistical screw up, it really is an 8gb unit and the box got mislabeled (it seems to have the right device number, though), or the docs are all correct -- it really is a 16gb and the device was misconfigured at the factory. If it's the second situation I could presumably fix it myself using the binaries Google made available, and avoid the return process entirely. But I'd rather not go down that route if it's not really a 16gb model because I'd like to avoid any further headaches with the return process.
You can also compare the serial number on your device with the one on the box and see if they match.

Yup. Checked that. The serial number reported in Settings matches the CSSN on the barcodes on the box. Everything appears to be consistent between the packaging and the device, except for the amount of storage.

Hello fellow forums users. After getting a bad screen nexus 4, and later selling it. I decided to give the Nexus 4 another chance. I just found a great deal on Ebay for a nexus 4 16GB from a seller that has 64 100% positive feedback. But... there seems to be an issue with the phones imei, the seller says that google disabled the phones. I tried looking on google on anything on the matter but I came up short. Here is a copy of the items description on Ebay... What do you think? is there any way that Google can DISABLE phones like that?? ive never heard of that before with unlocked cell phones.... any help would be greatly apreciated.

The listing is for BAD ESN Nexus 4 16GB BRAND NEW SEALED IN BOX. I ordered it straight from Google and the package went missing. Google gave me refund right away but the package arrived a few weeks later. I did not want the phones so i wanted to send it back to Google but I was told to keep them since they are disabled anyway. I am thinking the phone is disabled by BAD ESN or IMEI. The phone is still sealed in box and never been opened. I am selling these phones AS IS. ALL SALE IS FINAL and NO RETURN WILL BE ACCEPTED. Yes Google can disable the phone remotely. That phone will not turn on. Spend the extra 25 dollars and buy it from Google play store.

If you buy phone from playstore. They can remotely disable everything. Nexus 4,7,10. As long as you bought it from playstore, don't worry. they
can disable the device in just one second. I would suggest you don't buy it unless google willing to activate the phone. I doubt it.

Yes Google can disable it and no there is no way anyone can enable it. Its worthless paying that much money. I would suggest to pay a little extra and buy it from Google.

Thanks for your help, i was looking into the matter and all I could find where apps that let you remotely wipe your personal information on the device, but not actually BRICKING it. I went to google's play homepage, and in the returns/refund section I read that when you ask for a replacement phone, the remotely DISABLE the phone buts thats what I dont get. How do they do that? How does that work? will the phone not power on at all? do they block the imei number worldwide? any ideas?

Google has a well known back door into phones and they can pretty much do as they please but have limited their efforts so far to just removing malicious apps from peoples phones.
I would stay away from this phone for if the IMEI is blacklisted as stolen, which is pretty much a worldwide blacklist now, then it cannot be recovered as no carrier anywhere will activate it.
They won't remotely brick it... They'll just have the IMEI blacklisted. It will likely turn on, you just can't activate it anywhere.

I guess the question is whether that's Google bricking it or whether it's just a defective phone. I'd venture to say that it's a bad phone. If Google disables your phone, it's by adding your IMEI as stolen.
Samsung issued a Press Release yesterday outlining their plan to re-release refurbished Note7's.
Maybe now, those of us too stubborn to part with our N7, will see some device support from samsung!
Yea right... I read only selling in india..
I just got back from a verizon store. The guy there, who is suuuper smart and a Note 7 fan said that once Verizon starts selling the referbbed models (April 29th) they won't be able to determine if the IMEI is from a referb model or not...so after that, we should be able to use our N7s again.

How won't they be able to determine it? They have their list and know which came out when. If they release updates for the new ones though you can just flash it, I would think.
