FYI - DerTeufel1980 had a solid kernel working fairly quickly and has since worked on the recovery mods to allow installing two ROMs, etc. He has been working through a few items such as USB only working for charging, etc. He is making progress though.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
DerTeufel1980 has a dual-boot kernel working for the Samsung Galaxy line (Captivate, etc). With our help, he has been able to purchase a Note II to work on and I have been updating this thread with donation promises.
The post is below. You can look at his stats (a recognized developer with close to 13,000 thanks) and know that he can be trusted. Just to have him working on the Note II will be a great addition. I started the thread on the AT&T forum and then added it in the N7100/N7105 forum when I realized he lives in Germany. He and I have committed a fair amount of $ to make this happen so if you feel inclined to help out then it would be appreciated.

Update 5/25 - DerTeufel1980 has spent a while perfecting a universal kernel that works on AOSP and Sammy ROMs. The thread is here > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239453
He had to work out some bugs that prevented troubleshooting the dual-boot problem. However, he recently returned to the dual-boot problem and has solved it. He has been able to dual-boot with AOSP as primary, Sammy as secondary and vice-versa. He is still fixing some recovery issues, etc but is hopeful that the release will be available tomorrow. This turned out to be much more challenging than other phones but that is probably why nobody else has accomplished it until he had a device to work on...
good shizzle, im kieen for dual boot. ill get on it.

I'm surprised there isn't a single donation from this forum considering an N7105 would be the device we are hoping DerTeufel would buy.

Please consider putting a few bucks (or euros or any other currency) towards the cause. It would be amazing to have this kernel for our devices

Yes, in theory. As far as I know, there were already people trying to port it from siyah, as well as from my i9000 kernel, but didn't get it booting.
Also, gokhanmoral did not release his recovery sources yet, and my sources would need to be modified for another device.

I know its early stages but it would be nice to have some details of what he plans for the kernel?
Is he planning on being able to dual boot between a 4.1.2 sammy rom an the latest 4.2 AOSP Roms.
The first doesn't really interest me, but the later would be a cool feature. Anyway count me in for a $5 donation once its up and running. :good:

Thanks,
He said he wasn't sure if you could boot a TW and a AOSP but you should be able to dual-boot 2 different AOSP or 2 different TW ROMs. Having both would probably require swapping kernels during the dual-boot process.

Yes, it was. But with the release of 4.2.1 it wasn't possible anymore. I think it was because of the open source gpu driver, used by cm team at this time. This isn't compatible with tw.
I already have some ideas. Maybe we still can have both of it.

[OP] will keep the To Be Donator list updated frequently as people pledges their donation.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 is one of the best and maybe the most powerfull phone at the moment. It will surely be a very popular phone. We really need to get the most popular Custom ROM, CyanogenMod on the device.
This is a bounty thread for developers who are able to provide a stable CM7+ CyanogenMod ROM for the Samsung Galaxy S2
I'm gonna start with $20
Please write the amount you are willing to donate in this thread.
Bounty: $3394
Go here for a list of all donators.
There are Nightly Builds available for the SG2 now.
Put me in for $50
This is how much i hate touchwiz
Im in UK, but ill donate the equivalent of $30.
I hate TouchWiz too. CM would be awesome...if not CM then just any stock Android ROM.
I'm a poor student so $5
(when it is ported, please send a pm regarding it, I'll probably forget)
$10 here......
If fully hardware accelerated that is
$20 here, but hardware acceleration is a must!
$20 here too
CM with working camera, Voodoo Sound and comparable battery life - will earn a $20 from me
FYI, you can just get a different launcher instead of touchwiz, but CM7 doesnt have the hardware acceleration that samsung has in several apps (including the browser) Trust me, browsing will never be as fast with CM as it is with samsungs tweaks. With the SGS1 there was a lot to tweak, but samsung learnt from its mistakes. (see ext4 by default, no bootlock, flash, better gps, etc)
I will put down another 10 only if it will be custom cm made for the sgs2, incorporating all the current hardware accelerations. (which will be unlikely since CM uses android source and not samsung source)
Just look at the difference in quality between custom 2.3.3 roms based on official firmware and cm7.1 for SGS1..
Edit: Please note in OP that my donation requires samsungs tweaks in browser acceleration etc and audio/video codex. (this is not the case for the SGS1, my reason not to use cm7/miui) (nice everyone is updating their post with these requirements, im not the only one!)
I put down your offer, because we all want the full experience with hardware acceleration, if possible.
As much as I like CM, I got really used to MIUI. I am really hoping for an MIUI port.
Good for you, but that doesn't belong in the bounty thread

Well, I wanted to know here how to get CM support for the Samsung Galaxy S2, someone suggested that I should open a Bounty Thread.
If we got a large enough amount together and a dev is interested in programing CM for the S2 then we would donate the money via paypal. I would write to every participant in this thread and check with the dev if he received the money. Would that be ok with you?

I would suggest from past bounties that the best way to do this would be to keep this going "as is" and wait until a developer has produced such a ROM, and then users can choose to donate to them via their donate link. The OP can be edited to reflect this and point them to the person who got it running on the device.
Since it's not done yet though, no money should be getting paid around (for your own protection since it might not happen), and there will obviously be no specific recipient at this point until the task is achieved...
Well, that's ok with me. So we'll keep collecting donators until a dev comes up with a ROM.

I want to thank all users who have been generous in helping get the device to developers. It looks like we have one on the way now and I am looking forward to seeing new custom rom options. However I want to remind everyone that emwno has been with us from the beginning and is responsible for getting us a working recovery and striving to improve on the device and porting of Roms. He has limited resources but continues to work to improve our options as users. For him to proceed he needs help with testers but particularly with getting a device so he can test. I want to thank Speedy Gonzalez for working to set up a donation site and to arrange to buy and send a device to emwno. We are at $120.00 now. Can we all help?

Thanks to all who have donated. We are almost there and we need to get this over the top.
Remember Emwno was responsible for the CWM recovery we are using today, the CWM that is in the Note 8.0 Toolkit. He is working on developing an OC kernel for the Note 8 as well as the TWRP recovery. In addition he has been trying to port CM10 over to our device. All this without a device of his own to work on and test. He has been working with some of us to resolve the problems but with a device he could self test. Just think of it within a few weeks we could have a TWRP recovery, a new overclockable kernel, and some ported ROMs. Emwno along with Beantown106 would open up our device to new levels of customization. We have less than $100.00 to go. Lets get over top this week!

It's because we haven't gotten any love from developers.. All I want is for Beanstown to drop 1 just 1 rom. Then I would be super happy
The devs do love us.
emwo has
- gotten Clockwork working
- gotten a bootable custom kernel off the ground
That's two major pieces of dev love for a device the fellow doesn't have yet.
In progress he has
- twrp recovery, which is very nice
- a fully functional kernel
- a CM10.1 for those who want it.
If you're not into cm10.1, that's cool, but you won't have to run it to get mileage out of that kernel and the recovery.
But this dev has done so much for our devices and shown us much love. and thank you for contributing.
Yes Emwno has been supporting us since the beginning. We are almost there to get him a device. We need another $100.00 to get the device and send it to him. With the device in hand he should be able to finis the TWRP Recovery, get us a new OC Kernel and Port Roms from the Note 2 and Note 10.1. We supported Beans lets get this finished and get all the goodness for our device. He has demonstrated that he wants to be a part of our community.

True.. I'm past all that at this level and it would just be the time invested. Sounds like it's not worth it. Heh
If you did an ICS rom and left the samsung video player in it and added ntfssd (from google play) or compiled your own kernel that would use exfat or ntfs (TWRP supports exfat) for large file support I would test it.
Keep in mind ICS has been done, but If you could figure out how to port kitkat to the device that would be awesome. Kitkat is supposed to have great memory management. The galaxy 7.7 only has 1GB of system memory HC ran fast on it but ICS is a bit of a dog even with bloat removed and tweaks applied. The port of PAC rom to the i815 gave me issues due to incorrectly signed files in the rom.
I haven't checked the general section on this forum for a long time but yea I still use my i815 quite often and the lack of stock development has been extremely disappointing. But there is a lot of driver work afaik particularly with the IR and LTE. I don't have a data plan on my i815 anymore but from time to time I may throw my phone SIM in there. Biggest thing for me over the other ROMs is having the function of the full hardware. I personally dislike touchwiz thoroughly with the exception of multiwindow features
So yea
I would definitely be interested there are likely a few others who would be interested but don't frequent this section. The i815 info thread I think still have a decent number of subscribers.

Just an observation regarding my experience with my (7") HDX, to date. And I'm all for a CM or AOSP custom ROM. Like some other folks, I got the Kindle Hdx to have a good hardware platform at a good price - I can live without an Amazon OS!
I'm not a developer, just a tinkerer -- 'tho I've had a fair amount of experience playing with various ROMs -- on Motorola devices and now on my new Kindle HDX -- with a BIG THANKS to HashCode for his ongoing work with SafeStrap!
My current "ROM of choice" -- and the one that works best (and most stable) for me is Cpasjuste's aosp-4.2.2-thor-0 (ver. 0) first published in the HDX Android Development forum on January 12th. (Note: ]NOT his 4.2.2-1 published Jan. 24)
BTW: Another BIG THANKS to Cpasjuste for all his work, too! and thanks to all contributors!
I have tried all the thor-gapps roms available to date -- but the AOSP 4.2.2-0 works best for me. PS: I only use Kindle reader and that works on all roms if you use the older version that LinearEquation links to in different forums. If you use a lot of Amazon services -- well that's what the Amazon OS is for!
PS: for the few users who have commented on Google Maps not rendering properly on any of the Amazon based or thor-gapps roms -- it works perfectly on the aosp 4.2.2-0 rom that I mention above.

So is there any downside? Random crashes? Reboots? Anything?
@Mineturtle I'd be happy to test ish for you. What do u need?
Cpasjuste's AOSP ROM for thor has differing issues by release. Release 0 has rendering issues in which almost all games, youtube, and music were unbearable to use/broken. Release 1 has some rendering issues still, but youtube and music work. However, release 1 also has the quirk that no system dialog boxes actually render on screen. You can touch them, but you can't see them. It's weird and kind of frustrating, but do-able.

There is a thread about a bounty to unlock the boot loader. I think that's our best course of action. An unlocked boot loader gives us so many options. The bounty is for the 7 inch HDX but the hardware is almost identical I would be surprised if it didn't work for both. If we get the bounty high enough we could recruit some low level programmers to our cause.

He's an xda dev that posted great lollipop rom for v500
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'd be willing to donate as well. Getting the tablet free. Should be here tomorrow.
I will add $10 if it has working LTE, Wifi, GPS and Bluetooth.

All of those things should be covered with the $100, we'll just say that we have the bounty set to $110 or so. Anyone want to put on top? Lets get in touch with a developer to get this rolling!
Do u users have a working kitkat tree?

we have a semi-working CM11 devicetree/kernel ported from the non-LTE model (LTE data/GPS doesn't work, everything else seems to work)
I'm still trying to understand more about kernel development/porting, just not much time to look at it...

Why do you want Android 5.0 so bad to the point you want to pay money? I'm mean specifically, what in it is such a big deal that you need it NOW?
Why not just go buy a Google Play Edition if you want Lolipop that bad?
There's more to life than obsessing over having the lastest O/S version
Well a bounty is less than a gpe tablet lol. So there's that.

users of this great, underestimated beast of a tablet, that for some reason LG dumped some unoptimized garbage on to it, then "replaced" it with tablets with WORSE hardware, are really missing out on what this tablet can do. What it needs is a build that will run perfectly on it. Furthermore if it works half as good as it should, it would be better than what LG is currently doing with it.
Lets get a dev to get 4.4 working with radios, and we'll go from there. We may have to wait for a dev to pick up this device, with that; I am also willing to allow the dev my device as a start.
I'll add 50 to it
I would just like to see CM11 or CM12.. The tablet would run so much better.
It's starting to look like a significant amount of people are buying this tablet with the recent promotions by Verizon. I really hope that a dev can pick this up and see if they can get us a working ROM. I'm in the process of prepping a server to do some of my own ROM builds for the LG G3. Wish we had a working base because I don't have the knowledge to do anything but compile the builds.
Even a custom kernel would be nice so we could boost the CPU back to the 1.7 that the other models run at.
I'll kick in $20 for this. Would be nice to be cm12 or even GPE rom with working data (or not at this point).
I just got this tablet from verizon about 2 weeks ago, I dont consider myself a dev in any shape or form but I have done enough to know what can break my device and what cant, a while back I successfully ported a rom to a cheap Chinese tablet I owned a while back, I am going to look into porting a (hopefully) lollipop rom to our VK810, gonna take me some time and who knows if I will even be successful, just wanted to let everyone know someone is trying..... I will let you know if I make any progress....
Prepare your bounties guys !
Development is in full swing. We'd see some love for developers in coming weeks !
