Hi,
Does anyone else have the same problem I have?
If I leave the phone running on battery for a couple of hours it is sometime impossible to wake it up by pressing the power button. Also the LED flashes white (not red). In order to get it working again I have to hold the power button a couple of seconds causing it to reset.
This happens on stock 4.2.1 and also in CM (4.2.1 and 4.2.2).
Seems like a HW problem? Should I send it in for repair?
BR/Svanteson
I've had this issue as well. It may be an issue with one of your downloaded apps. I have gone back to stock without any 3rd party apps and I haven't had the issue yet. Going to test a couple days and see what happens.
Edit: Maybe if you post some of your 3rd party apps you downloaded we can see if we have some in common.
Sure, here are some of my 3rd party apps
Moxier Mail
Eniro
Hitta
Wifi Analyzer
CPU Spy
Subnet calculator
Quadrant
Dropbox
Facebook
Whatsapp
Viber
Spotify
Shazam
MX Player
Truecaller
Llama
Android Lost
Out of those, Facebook and Android Lost are the only ones we had in common. I'll report back on this thread if this issue returns on my freshly flashed stock device without any 3rd party apps.
Similar problem here...

Similarly, on two occasions now, I've gone to bed with the N4 on the charger, only to find it completely shutdown in the morning, and the battery unchanged from where it was when I plugged it into the charger. It required holding the power button down for quite awhile before I got a response and the unit rebooted. The first time, I didn't bother doing anything at all, but this morning, when it happened again, I called N4 support. I was advised to do a factory reset, and monitor it. If it did it again, they'll do an RMA. It seemed they would have sent another one right then if that's what I wanted them to do, but I told them I'd try the factory reset. They also sent an email with a direct contact link to the agent I spoke with in the event I need to return it.
My Device:
Nexus 4 16GB
Android 4.2.1
Kernel 3.4.0-perf-ge039dcb
Not rooted
I'll also post if the factory reset works. I've also read online, that holding the Volume Down and Power Button both for about 10 seconds, disregarding anything that appears on your screen, will shut your device down. Restart and, at least for several posters, the problem disappeared. Just an FYI. I'll try it if the reset doesn't provide the cure.
No joy....

Following up on my post yesterday, a hard reset did not help anything. Neither did an update to 4.2.2 for that matter. I also tried holding the Volume Down and Power Button until it shut down, and while the problem hasn't re-occurred, I really haven't provided enough time to tell yet. So Google is sending me another one and issuing an RMA. In the interim, while I'm waiting for the new one to arrive, I'll follow up if the VolDown and Power button has done anything.
I'm having the same issue. I just woke up, phone had a flashing white LED and would not boot. A reboot was neccessary. Is this a hardware failure?
The last couple of days I have not had WLAN activated. So far it is running fine.
I will activate WLAN today to see if the problem reappears.

Why would you think there's a correlation between the two? I do have problems with wireless-notifications; for example, messages on whatsapp are often delayed, where I get a notification at say 11PM when the message was sent 10:45PM. Do you also experience this?
No problem noted this morning...

I don't know whether holding the Vol Down and Power Button resolved the issue, but at least it didn't happen last night whereas it has been failing nightly when on the charger. Unfortunately, I was just notified that my replacement has already shipped, or I would tell them to hold off a day or two. For those of you experiencing this, you might try holding the Vol Down and Power Button at the same time until the device shuts down ignoring anything on the screen. Then simply restarting. I'm not saying that mine is fixed, only that it had a good night and that was the only thing I've done.
I will post again up until I have sent this device back. I have 21 days in which to return it or my credit card will be charged for real.

Mine also failed while on the charger a few times, but it also happened when not charging, so.... I'll try your solution. Why not!
This just happened again this morning. My alarm failed to go off, but the phone LED was flashing white. I could not turn the screen on. I did install some 3rd party apps yesterday:
Facebook
Tasks Free
reddit sync
Ally
IMDb
Pandora
Twitter
I tried the Vol Down + Power and that didn't work for me. I think I am going to RMA the device.
Yea...I have a few apps on my device, but not the ones mentioned here. So I don't think that can cause it. Hoping for more responses! I subscribed to this thread now.
Does anyone know if there is a bug report for this issue?
Not sure, don't think so as I've googled this quite alot. I just saw my telephone, which was idle next to me for about an hour, reboot itself. I saw the google and then the nexus logo without me even touching it. No white flashing LED this time, allthough that also has happened to me. This is getting very annoying now...
Google Support's reply on this
I have seen this happen to my phone more than a few times. I can't make it happen consistently though. I contacted the support hoping for a RMA, and today I received this response from them.
"Thank you for contacting us about your Nexus 4 and providing those details for clarification. This issue could be possibly not be a problem, it is a feature as with any Jellybean OS device; and goes in to the sleep state after some hours of inactivity - such as the details your describe when left overnight. It can go in to a deep sleep, where holding the power button for 30 seconds or more is what wakes the device up."
So this is a *feature*? It seems puzzling to me. I don't know if receiving a call would wake it up (if not, it would definitely be a problem).
I also tried different roms, PA and Xylon, and stock 4.22 with different kernels ranging from Franco to Motley. It would still happen. Rarely but it's still there. Also I am trying to see if changning the minimum clock speed to 1024 would change anything. I will report back once I have more info.
Still working so far...
I've not had a problem with mine since the Vol Down and Power Button shutdown. It may not even be related and may have just "healed" itself, or the problem has simply become intermittent and hasn't repeated itself yet...dunno unfortunately. Since my replacement will be arriving today, I may never know since I'll be shipping this one back to them. I may wait until Monday to ship it though, and see if it acts up again and repost if it does or doesn't.
Hopefully the replacement won't have this problem at all!
locked up
I don't think the flashing white-LED is a signifier of a problem. I think it is a different status message, like email or facebook, or something. I haven't found that documented anywhere, but I've noticed it is blue sometimes and white other times. Without being locked up.
My phone will lock up while charging overnight. I have turned off Dream State and the LED notifier thinking it was related to these. It did seem to be somewhat better after that, but the last two nights have seen the phone locked up.
Also, holding down the power button for 30 seconds will hard power it off at 10 seconds, it seems to me. That is typically how I deal with this lock up! Hold down the power button 10 seconds, release, press it again and wait for it to boot.
This is frustrating. I was thinking of rooting the phone so I can use a logwatcher, but I'm not sure I will see anything in the logs after booting the fracking thing.
But.. while I consider that I will start by uninstalling Facebook, Dropbox, and Twitter apps, based on seeing them on other people's lists.
I'm going to RMA the phone. Just a question, what charger do you guys use? I've been using a samsung charger (from my Galaxy S2), perhaps that's related? As it does happen while charging mostly, allthough I saw the phone reboot itself out of nowhere without it being plugged in yesterday too.
I've only used the Nexus 4 charger on mine. No others. I'm on my new device now but haven't sent the other one back yet. Probably tomorrow.

So, I've noticed that after the update the sleep/wake button has been acting up. I've found that sometimes you need to press it twice in order for it to register. Also then, sometimes after it would wake then fall back asleep within seconds of pressing the button. Anybody else experiencing this?
ztm
Yes! I might be able to second this. Thought I was imagining it.
Not yet able to reproduce it on demand.
I can recreate this and it's driving me nuts. But it wasn't due to the update. It's been happening for a few weeks now.
The power button to wake up the phone has been glitchy since the beginning for me. And the fact that the power button doesn't have good feedback when pressed, gives it some ambiguity whether you really pressed it.
I too am suddenly experiencing problems with the power key, everything works normally except now it no longer responds to a quick push to put it into standby. Long push still works. It was working fine after the update, it just happened suddenly.
You can use Keyguard Disabler, and it will allow you to wake the phone from virtually any "hardware" button.
One other issue is that it disables the lock screen completely, which some people feel is not a solution.
Maybe if you emailed the developer you could request that it not disable the lock screen yet still wake the phone from any hardware button, which I think is what we all want.
Anyway, I have to give it a thumbs up as a temporary, albeit not perfect and very unsecure, solution.
I don't have your problem, but as a former iphone user, I'm used to the home button to wake up the phone.
I'm having all kinds of problems since the update. This is one of them.
I agree with you.. for some reason. My battery drains like a mothafuga now. Today for exampe.
, I went to work at ten. Went to break two hours later and the battery was at 82% from 98%.. just sitting there idling.. why??
I also experienced this and also sometimes it wont wake up at all. It registers no input. I have to pull the battery and restart the phone.
I'm getting this, discussed it briefly elsewhere in this forum..
It's got gradually worse over the last few days for me. If you're still in your 14 days I'd ring now to get a replacement. I'm going to have to send mine off and be without it for a week.. Harsh.
Looks like it might be a fairly widespread hardware issue.
^Let us know how the fix goes. I'm not having an issue with it...yet! It's amazing HTC only made 2 hardware buttons and still couldn't have better than 50% success rate
its weird now... the button is acting fine.. dont send it in...... give it a couple days because mine did it a whole ton and then its gone. if you're really partial to your nexi, i'd just keep it... things will probably shape up
How odd, I've kind of discovered if I hold down the left hand side of the power button quite hard with my nail and rock it accross it works OK. Will wait it out like you said and see.
Sleep Button Un Responsive
Im also have the same problems where my Power Button is starting to not respong. I have to pres it like 5 to 10 times before it actually wake up or does anything. Even wile the phone is off like if I pull out the battery. When I put the battery back in, I have to press the button like 7 times before the phone responds and power up the phone.
Any suggestions or solutions?
Will HTC fix this problem for free with an unlocked bootloader?
nope unfortunately i learned that the hard way... $55

Most of you know this but maybe it helps some.
You have to manage it a bit. Turn Bluetooth/Wifi/3G/GPS/AutoSync off when not needed..
Speaking of which.. does anyone know of a smart App that lets you toggle between programmable profiles for the above list of settings?
Also discharge/recharge the battery completely every once in a while. Makes sense to have an extra USB cable @ work as well.
Most of us here love our Nexus S phones. We love Android 2.3's speed and the neat little TV effect when we lock our screens. Since Friday morning, (Feb. 11th) my Nexus S seems to be having another TV effect: nightly "sign offs."
It does not matter if I was charging the phone or not, the phone would just stop working. The strip of touch buttons along the bottom of the phone could be lit or unlit, but the screen would just turn off and no button presses would wake the phone. If I plugged it in to a computer, you could hear a "device connect" noise and see the Android hard drive appear under the Device Manager in Windows.
All of this means that the Nexus S was powered, but not responding. It would not reboot itself, and yes, I have experienced the reboot issue. This seems to be a separate issue. This only seems to happen after midnight.
The only solution is to pull out the battery and reboot it manually.
If my Nexus S is still on when this silent crash occurs overnight, my battery could be completely drained by the time I wake up, making me plug it in AND requiring a battery pull.
Has anyone else had this issue occur? According to the Android Market, I've only updated a few programs recently, one of them being Twitter.

When I woke up on Friday, I called Samsung and they did note the issue under my phone number. I will call them again Monday and let them know I'm still having issues.
Any help/suggestions from the XDA community would be appreciated.
Thank you!
Just checked this morning, (Monday) and I had to pop out the battery to turn the phone back on. Before I went to sleep, my battery was at 100%. When I woke up and booted the phone up, it was around 30%. A 70% drop in 8 hours. Time to call Samsung again.
No one else is having this issue?

Sounds like either a defective unit, or messed up software.
Try doing a factory reset and use don't install many apps and see if that resolves for problems for a day or 2.
Well I had a strange issue that I had never seen before... at around midnight last night both my NS and my gf's went into bootloop at the same time, it was freaky. We're both on CM7 but hers is an older build and mine has netarchy's but it's never happened before... pulling the battery and powering back on fixed both phones but it's still very weird.
I have never actually called the manufacturer before about any issues with a device. Do they do anything for you? Or help you in any way?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Samsung suggested that I do a factory reset and then if that does not fix the issue, then I'll have to send the phone into them. The tech I got on Friday was more knowledgeable than the one I got today. I'm going to backup my data and then do a factory reset, making sure not to "pull" my data from Google's servers.
Man, not doing that is going to suck.
I am also using Google Voice for my voicemail. Just wanted to throw that out there in case any running services or something is causing all of this. I'm thinking that the new version of Twitter is causing this, as it's baked into Android now and there was an update recently. Thoughts?
Here's a small update on my issue: it seems to be software-related. My Nexus S crashes during the day as well, requiring a battery pull as described above. Disabling sync does not solve the issue, so it doesn't seem like it's coming from that area. What would you guys suggest my next place to look be?
Thanks!
Well, have been having almost the same issue for the past two days. Go to bed with 57 & 63%. Get up in the morning and the phone is dead. Not sure of the exact time it.passes away, but yeah.
Can't understand why the phone has to drink while I sleep.

Same prob, only intermitant though. Im using rc1 now, with no custom kernel.

I've been having the same issue since the 13th of Feb. At first it would freeze only overnight. Now, since the 14th it freezes while asleep 4-5 times a day, and the only way to get it working is to do a battery pull. I've tried to remove recently installed apps and widgets, but that has made no difference. I really don't want to have to do a factory reset, especially after I've been reading on google forums about other users not noticing a difference after a factory reset. This is getting ridiculous.

Agreed. Mine started to freeze during the day as well, requiring a battery pull. Do you have the new Twitter installed? Do you use Google Voice for voicemail? I'm trying to pull together some common threads. It's definitely software related.
Edit: OK, now this is just stupid. It seems like I'm freezing up every half an hour by now. I pull the phone from my pocket to check on something and I push the power button. The lockscreen shows, but the screen and touch buttons don't respond. Battery pull is the only option.
Yes, I do have the new Twitter installed, and yes, I do use Google Voice.
It seems to be happening more often now for me as well. Sometimes it takes two to three times for it to fully restart and get to the home screen, or the lock screen, and sometimes it will wake and then freeze on my pattern lock which also requires a battery pull.
I've starred a few forums on this same issue on the Google support forums, I hope others do the same to show support for a quick fix.
Last night I had the battery at 90. Switched of Wifi, Data and Sync.
Got up this morning and ... no probs The battery dropped to just 88!
BTW. I have got a stock unrooted phone with no Google Voice or twitter so, could not really be a problem related to that.
I use the app addin timer to run stuff at particular times. Other apps that I downloaded are calcbuddy, barcode scanner (which I think is pointless and going to remove), pure messenger, calwidget, appbrain (again, did not like the new updated one), aTakephone, Flip4Silence, CoPilot, Fast Reboot, Docs to Go, Skype, Remote Desktop, StockIndia, Tunein Radio and Widgetsoid.
Thanks for letting me know the apps you have installed. The only common ones between us are:
Barcode Scanner
Skype
Barcode scanner is actually useful. (QR Codes, etc.) Skype may have something to do with it as it does integrate itself with data sync. Thoughts?
In order for this theory to hold water, your phone must:
Crash and require a battery pull to be responsive
Have Skype installed
Edit: My phone was crashing so much that the "first time/welcome" wizard was coming up. Swype, Facebook and GMail were crashing left and right. Time for another Factory Reset....
Edit 2: The phone has SOMEHOW survived a Factory Reset from the normal phone menu AND the Recovery menu! WHAT?!
My Nexus S is going back to Samsung for repair. *sigh* I wonder what they'll say caused the issues?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Now, today, the phone doesn't get passed the initial "Google" screen. No matter how many times I pull the battery, plug it into a charger or usb port, it does not go past the first google screen. Very disappointing.
Can you get into the bootloader menu? (Volume Up + Power)
Yes, that allowed me to get to the bootloader menu, but I couldn't do a factory reset, it just sat at the screen with the android and an exclamation point inside a triangle. I then did a battery pull, tried a normal restart and got to my home screen.
Glad to hear that you got in. By the way, once you get to the exclamation point screen, you can push Power while holding the Volume Up button to bring up a menu.
Cool, thanks for the help!!

Did you install any applications from the market? Is your phone freezing while a certain application is open or does it freeze even on the homescreen? If you have a lot of applications installed try to deinstall and look if it becomes better. If not try a factory reset. If it still freezes than return it for a new one.
Would you mind saying what you were doing when it locks up?
If it's during Music, it doesn't actually lock up, it just shows a black screen for about half a minute. Everything still functions, it just doesn't show.
Two times trying to answer a call the screen would not unlock nothing would work I had to take the battery out and just todayit was sitting on my desk and it would not turn on when I tried to use it

I have a feeling there is a bad batch of units out there.
Try factory reset and see if it continues to lock up, if it does, return it for another.

Sounds like a broken phone. Try a factory reset (if you return it they anyway ask if you did that) and if that won't help get a new one....

Same thing happened to me yesterday, the light was very dim green and the phone did not respond until I pulled the battery. It hasn't happened again.
I've already had to replace my Atrix for another issue. Right now my confidence in this phone is not very high, but it is brand new. Lots of issues will probably pop up and be fixed via software updates- at least I hope thats the case.
It really feels like all the issues people are having with this phone are software related. Maybe motorolla will just cave and give us gingerbread with no blur
I've had the same problem while playing music...over the past 3 days after about 30 minutes of tunes it'll lock up and after another 5 reset itself...i've done the reset after the second and it still does it...i'm bout to take it back and exchange it...i expect glitches but damn.
Motorola Atrix (stock)

I have had the issue happen 2 me twice in 3 days, the last time was when adding the note widget to screen. It was not completely locked up just the touch screen, i could press the power off button but the touch screen would not let me shutdown
something you might want to try if a factory reset doesn't work would be a reinstall from the recovery menu.
power your phone off
hold the down volume key and the power button
release the power button once the phone begins to boot
keep holding the down volume button until you see "fastboot" at the top of the screen
now be careful, the down volume button navigates through the boot options and the up volume selects one
so press the down volume button until you come across "android recovery"
once you see it press the up volume button to select it
once you get to the screen with the exclamation mark tap the bottom right of the touchscreen, this should pop up the recovery menu
select wipe data/factory reset
let the phone do it's thing
good luck
I've seen this resolve some audio codec issues that were causing the phone's mic to not work, dunno if it'll work for your issue but it can't hurt to try.
best of luck

I have found a fix for my lockup issue. If the screen is on and lockup (no touch screen) press the power button 2, turns off the display and turns it back on and everything continues to work fine.

I have the same problem (screen randomly locks up once or twice a day, buttons dead) and have found the above "solution" to work perfectly, also. The problem however is that pressing the power button twice and unlocking the phone is not exactly elegant especially if the screen locks while you are trying to answer an incoming call.
I changed my battery settings to "performance mode" as I read somewhere that that might help. I will let you know if that seems to resolve the issue.
Changing battery setting doesn't seem to do anything. I still get my share of frozen/locked up screens a few times a day. Still have not figured out how to replicate the behavior. It really does seem random.
I've been suffering from this as well, I'm going to try to exchange my phone and see if that helps.
Exchanged my phone today. So far I haven't seen any locked/frozen screen issues. I am relieved. Maybe there are just a few bad units out there.
Also for what it is worth ... the lady at AT&T told me that taking out the battery while the phone is on would fix it. Since I never figured out how to replicate the behavior I couldn't verify that her suggestion would indeed actually fix the problem and demanded an exchange anyways.
atrix does lock up and have glitches
lock up glitch:
While in standby (screen black), it locks up. You obviously don't know when exactly it happens as it's lying around in standby. When you press the powerbutton to wake it up, nothing happens. You can try what you want, long press, several presses, just dead phone. As if the battery losts juice, but 2 times it happened and the battery was above 50%.
Tired to connect the charger while in that lock-up state. Nothing happens The notification light remains black as well.
The 2nd time this happened to me, I had the idea to call myself and see if just the powerbutton has a glitch and the phone is actually running just remaining in standby with a black screen. But nope, the phone didn't ring or wake up.
Only way to recover is to take the battery out.
I didn't mess with my phone and was very careful in which apps I installed. The only ones I have are very populoar 4+star apps:
extended controls
easy profiles
the other apps are most of the time not even running:
photoaf, vignette, imdb, nytimes, fb, skype, pandora, screen filter, droid light, prozoom5x camera
No games at all installed...
The 2nd glitch that happened to me a couple of times is that the finger print sensor is not working: It doesn't display any message as in " did not verify, too short, ..." it's just dead, the only way to get in is to punch in the number code.
This is typically fixed after switching the phone off fully.
Of course skype also doesn't work on my atrix (well known mic issue)
It happened to me as well. I had installed some apps but when it froze it had been off (the screen that is) so it was sitting then when I tried to open it by pressing the power button the green light came on but it would not wake. I removed the battery, replaced it then it did the same thing again (including the green light). I removed and installed the battery once more then it was fine. It must have been something in the backround but not sure as to what that was. Hasnt happened again though.

Of course skype also doesn't work on my atrix (well known mic issue)

strange, skype worked for me... oh well.
did you ever find a solution for the lockup issue, have the same thing, very frustrating but not as frequent as you thankfully.
My Atrix started to freeze up when I undervolted the CPU using SetCPU and I would have to pull the battery out and restart it. I increased the voltage settings and it hasn't locked up since, so if you have undervolted your CPU and your phone is locking up, you should increase the voltages.
I used it this morning to listen to music while getting ready for work just like any other day. When I turned it off it has about 65% batter left and I set it on my counter. Came home at lunch and it would not turn on. I plugged in the charger and got no response from the device, no orange light nothing.
I brought it to work and it has been plugged in for almost an hour now and it still has no orange light on it and it will not turn on. Any suggestions for what to do or what might have happened?

I've had that happen twice with mine so far the fix is easy though:
Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds.
Press the power button again and it should come one.
Hopefully that fixes it for you.

Dude you are a FREAKING life saver!! I really thought it was dead, but when I did this it turned on just fine and was almost fully charged as well. Wonder what causes this? Any ideas?
Anyway, thanks!!

I would think it's some kind of problem, regardless. Software or hardware, who knows. Basically the 20 second power button as I understand it is just a hard reset akin to a battery pull.

It's definitely a problem but it's not a problem with just his Fire; it's happened to me twice. Once when I turned off the Fire while playing a game (not a hard power off, just a quick power button tap) and again when another app crashed.
This happens to some other android devices. I think its an issue in some gingerbread builds where the device wont wake from sleep.
This has been happening to me frequently since the 6.2 update.
just for the record I too have experienced this problem. freaked me out that is for sure. glad to see others have seen this, and hopefully it will be fixed. at least its pretty easy to resolve the issue when it occurs.
it's useful topic for me.
Kindle Dead
This is happening every day now. Is there a fix? I'm not sure what the frequency is or why, but once or twice a day is becoming the norm...it's frustrating
Rooted Kindle
Go Launcher
Android market Apps, etc.
Try disabling wifi and see if the problem goes away.
kindle dead not wifi related
Thanks for the suggestion. I disabled wifi and waited 3 hours; dead Kindle. I'll try anything...please help as it's quite a nuisance.
Thanks
Is this happening to only rooted Kindle's? I'm getting one from the wife for Xmas and was wondering if this is happening to stock fires as well.
Sent from my Nocturnal E3D using Tapatalk
This only seems to happen to be when i am not using the factory supplied power supply. You guys still getting this using the factory plug?
My Kindle totally dead. I can't repair it. I can't get acces to adb shell. Nothing. this is really sad.
Dead Kindle
Try holding down power button 20 secs then re-press it...works for me
I had this happen to me while I was in a work meeting on Friday. Thankfully I found this thread so I learned about the 20 second hold down thing. It worked like a charm and I have only had it happen once. For the record I am not, nor have ever, rooted the Fire.
It was pretty discouraging to be sitting in the meeting with a "dead" Fire and unable to look at the manual to see how to factory reset it because, well, the manual is included in the Fire....
man, I hate irony.
Same problem here. Several times it has been dead now. This morning again and the power had fallen without showing any steps for about 10 per cent. Wifi was switched off.
Any more ideas?
Now it happend two times in a row. After this night again it was "dead" in the morning. Are there any ideas what might be wrong with the device? (rooted, wifi off, ADW launcher, but not activated, some google apps like market)
Any ideas what could be done?
It only happens to mine (rooted, adb, Go Launcher) when I put it to sleep while it is in "Go Launcher", if I put it to sleep from Kindle Launcher it wakes right up. Hope this helps.

I installed some camera apps one day on ZfMP. I usually keep it for charging overnight. To my surprise the phone had shut down by itself. I long pressed power button for some 20 seconds, it opened up. I ignored it as a sporadic issue. But I faced the same issue once again yesterday.
Custom care has only one troubleshoot for all issues, "reset the phone".
Disappointed. Does anybody know what exactly is the issue? Please help me fix it.

Ive faced this issue once in same conditions[overnight charger connected], and i too had to loooong pressed the power button for about 7-10 seconds to bring it back to life..
I would suggest to not connect the charger overnight.
I am thinking of alerting myself by way of a tasker profile, which i have already prepared.
Not many would like this solution, tasker being a paid application. But i purchased ages ago and there is no other software like that. And i recommend to have it purchased, and simplify your android life.
I can share the profile that i created, if anyone is interested.
Just install " Battery full notification "from play store and set is to a desired battery level.when the battery charge reached to the desired level the app will start a custom sound,so you will disconnect the charger.
It is a free app and i am using it since android Ginger bread days and my phones battery never damaged by unnecessary charging.
This is not a overcharging issue. Because only yesterday it got shut down at 84%. There seems to be some other bug related to this.
same problem i faced today at 65% of charge i keep my phone beside me and slept when i woke up it was off, I think this is not a charging issue its something else.
Random shutdowns
I'm having a similar issue too. Got the mobile a couple of days back and since it is still in the return period, I placed a replacement request.
After some digging, I realise it is rather common place with Asus smartphones to randomly shut down. Some say it is a battery calibration error. I've tried resetting the battery logs but the issue still persists.
I guess there's only two solutions as such-
1) Get it replaced by Flipkart. And yes, they do entertain return request even out of the ten day period.
2) Visit the service centre and get ready with a backup phone for a couple of weeks. I've visited the service centre and they seemed equally ignorant and dazzled.
PS- I did unlock the bootloader and rooted it. Installed viper, Greenify and YouTube red. I read that some of you had the issue after unlocking it too; That might be the culprit or it is just a manufacturing defect
i have not unlocked my phone and this was the first time i got this problem.
i kept the phone at night and didnt use it for 8hours the phone was on battery only.
morning when i checked the phone was off and i had to press the power button for 1 minute for it to start the battery was 75% so the battery didnt run to 0 and all.
can anyone on custom ROMs report back, if they face this issue or not? Just to know if its a stock ROM issue, or really a manufacturing defect.
It is definitely a manufacturing defect. It randomly switched off at first. Soon got worse and wasn't turning on at all.
I was on AOSP and returned to stock once the issue started. That didn't solve it even though I flashed the stock firmware via fastboot.
However, I tried keeping the phone on recovery and it didn't die then.

So how many users are facing this issue? Is this too random and only solution is to get the phone replaced? I like to buy this phone in next sale, but now got in two minds, as I definitely don't want a phone with known hardware/manufacturing defect...
Well, I went all out on the device the moment I got it. Maybe that's why the issues popped up the first day.
Flipkart offers you a 10 day replacement. So, whatever your pace maybe the 10 day replacement should be enough for you.
That said, the mobile is awesome.
ya even my phone just did this once
I bought this phone for my dad on Father's day as his secondary device. He left the phone charging, then after about an hour came to me and said its not turning on, I tried everything, including trying to charge it. I ended upholding the power button long enough for it to start. I can return it to flipkart till 26th. What should I do? And if I'm to return it, which phone should I buy then.
my observation having these phone for 2 days
for the first day, i use it without any problem from 100 percent until run out of the juice. BUT, that time i havent insert my sim card which i only use WIFI to connect to internet. the battery are pretty impressive. In fact, i also updated to the newest software.
ON the next day, i inserted my sim card and use mobile data as internet sources. THEN, the phone started to unresponding whenever i left or away from it more than 5 minutes which i need to force restart and also happened during charging time. i left it about 5 minutes and the same problem happen.
When i eject those sim card, and charge it back, the phone are completely fine. All seems ok.
SO, MY ANSWER OF THESE ISSUE ARE BECAUSE OF SIM CARD RELATED, NETWORK, 4G, VOLTLTE, MOBILE DATA.... ETC.
HOPE THESE REPLY REALLY HELPFUL FOR THOSE WHO CAN SOLVE THESE ISSUE. I AM A FANS OF ASUS PRODUCT AND HOPE CAN USE THIS GREAT PRODUCTS. THE SPECS ARE VERY GOOD AND THE BEST SMARTPHONE I EVER USED IN MY LIFE.
ASUS THE BEST.
I was planning to buy this phone, but this problem is appearing like a deal breaker. Can someone provide me an opinion on whether to buy this or not?
Does the problem happen consistently right from the day you bought it?
(If so, I think the best thing you can do is to buy it, see if the problem happens, return to flipkart if problem happens.)

asus zenfone max pro ( new)-auto-shut down, not charging/getting on
Hello friends,
my new asus zenfone max pro (less than 1-month-old) was working fine till yesterday, and almost full charged.. but its showing no charging and not on... could it be same problem as discussed in this thread?
It was not shut down, but i think its auto shut down
I for sure know - the phone has been taken care off, and no fall or nothing.
Please help.
Thanks in advance,
Sunshine
I too was astonished to see that the Zenfone max pro m1 was dead after putting it for overnight charging when it was 38% and since the phone did not turn on in the early morning, by long press of "on" button, "fingerprint and on" together also did not turn on, connected to computer via USB, that too could not put it on. I removed SIMs and put into another phone and left for office. Then contacted the service centre, who welcomed for service. Surprisingly, when I returned home after work and tried fingerprint and on button together, it started booting. Then charge was 86%. How can we rely on the phone?
