Sorry amigo, mine vibrates. If you press the side volume rocker down repeatedly it should switch to vibrate and then physically buzz. If not, you might have a good bad phone.

I have the same problem. It's really irritating because I have my phone on vibrate most of the time. I think I'll just have to return it.
There must be a way of muting all sound from the phone (calls, notifications, etc) except for the alarm .... Besides manually lowering the volume for each volume

Try Silent Sleep from Google Play, works well for me or Mute Ringer.
Hold down power and press mute (speaker with a line through it icon)

Check out AudioManager. It's a pay app but allows you to control all individual volumes. I use the widget on my home screen when I set my alarm on my phone and turn sound off and I can verify that the alarm volume is still on.

depending on why you need this why don't try airplane mode?
even if you don't need data connection, is clear

I still want to be connected to the internet to allow apps and stuff to update and work in the background I just want to be able to mute all the sound except the alarm in 1 click
My alarm stays on full volume regardless of all the other sounds. I put my phone on vibrate every night and it doesn't ever mess with the alarm volume

Just put you phone in silent mode. Long press power and press silent.
Alarm will never be turned off regardless of the profile. That's a feature!

Not quite what you're after but I use timerific to silence my phone at night

Not sure one ROM you're on... But lowering the volume using the volume rockers doesn't effect my alarm notification volume level.

exactly the vol buttons only effects calls, music etc, the alarm has to be changed manually,
there's also quiet hours so you dont need to change it every night
Such a big discussion about nothing. When you put your phone on silent, meaning all the sounds are off, you will still hear the alarm.
I change it ask the time depending on my usage.

Hi! I'd like to know why my s4 automatically switch to sound on when I connect my headphones... I mean not the media sound, but notification and ringing sounds. The vibration symbol disappear as I use headphones. Sometimes I forget to set back vibration profile and the phone rings aloud disturbing. How can I solve this? Thank you very much!

Using cm 10.1.3 my phone refuses to ring when receiving a call. Have checked every sound setting I can find and I am not on vibrate either or muted for that matter. Sound works fine everywhere else. Thanks for listening.

Curious if anyone else is running into this... I am rooted and unlocked, running stock 183.46.10.XT907. I am on the 4.4 kernel as I rooted and unlocked from there and have not gone back to 4.1.2.
The volume is set at max using the volume key.
I've experienced the low call volume on Slim, CM11, and fastbooted back to stock to try to correct the problem.
Started in safemode, does not appear to be related to a 3rd party app.
Anyone experienced/overcome this or suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Yes I to have noticed this with not only the in call (both speaker phone and non)but also YouTube haven't looked into a resolution not on the phone that much ... I've had issues with it pressing buttons to have you or anyone else...it's not an issue with the proximity sensor as the display is off...

I haven't had issues with the hardware buttons, but appreciate hearing I'm not the only one. The speaker phone and speaker have normal volume for music, it is just in call that it seems muted.

Tried everything but going back to 4.1.2. Took to cleaning the area, even though not visibly clogged or dirty, with canned air/paintbrush/vacuum and it made it livable. It's better but not what it was.
Anyways- I would go to cleaning it first if you run into the same problem, you should get a little of the function back.
